Preview of “The Death of Kings” illustrated history video at Target.com

Death of Kings

The Game of Thrones Season 4 Blu-Ray will be available on February 17th, just two weeks away. Along with the standard audio commentaries and a behind-the-scenes look at the epic battle of Castle Black, this year’s edition includes more of the beautifully illustrated histories that flesh out the world of GoT.

One of the histories, “The Death of Kings” is now available for preview at Target.com, where the Blu-ray can also be pre-ordered.

The histories are always a highlight of the extras, making the Game of Thrones Blu-rays well worth the going price of $39.99.

  1. “Given such an illustrious history, need we be so shocked by regicide?”

Another great History and Lore video, and just a taste of what’s to come.

  2. Sue the Fury:
I want Varys/Conleth Hill to narrate everything.

I agree, yet it’s so easy to say the same for Stephen Dillane, Iain Glen, Michael McRooseBolton, Natalie Dormer, Lena Headey, Charles Dance, Rose Leslie,…. and I’m gonna stop there cause I dont know when that list would end. ^^

I’d like to have my life narrated by Rose Leslie…

  3. Varys talking about the end of the Blackfyre line.

ha ha. hA HA. HA HA. I’m on to your games, eunuch egg man.

  4. So…the Blackfyre line is completely done in the show, not just the “male line”. Good bye Aegon, we will miss you.

Well, officially in the books as well. There are no official claim of a Blackfyre descending from the female line, only rumours that there may be.

And the official story for Aegon is not that he’s a Blackfyre. Varys and Illyrio claim he’s the son of Rhaegar. And they wouldnt have Varys say in the H&L : “And the Blackfyre line is extinct… except for the one I’m hiding and plan to surprisly put on the Iron Throne next season.”

No, but he could say: “the Blackfyres are extinct in the male line” just like in the books. Anyways maybe I’m just reading to much about nothing, nevermind…

  7. Lion of Night,

Seems like it’s really trolling season on imdb…

Saw this post from their GoT forum, seems totally reliable 😉

I talked with a producer of the show and he confirmed that

Stoneheart has been cut, atleast the book version. Instead, they will bring back Talisa (Robb Stark’s girlfriend). This was the main reason why D&D decided to kill her off at the RW. She will take Cat’s place as Lady Stoneheart and will avenge Robb and Ned (her killed baby). The actress is a lot cheaper and this was just overall a more wise decision story-wise. I am looking forward to it!

Bump this thread when the season arrives and you’ll see that this was 100% truth.

  8. Dolorous Ned,

I really want this fake Stoneheart stuff to end… But I can’t help but get my hopes up. We see Brienne and Pod back in the Riverlands in the trailer. Also the line “There is nothing more hateful than failing to protect the ones you love” really sounds LSish to me. #Stonehard4Stoneheart
  9. Um YES you need to tag all spoilers.

However I would actually appreciate it you all moved this conversation back to the thread it was just in (the box set review post, the one right before this with loads of posts about it). It’s baseless speculation begun by a troll and I really don’t want it spreading.

Please don’t post any more IMDB links because it’s just spamming at this rate of the same link over and over.

  10. Dogcheese,

Hah! What is dead shall never die!

I’m going to start writing essays on the pros and cons, signs and portents, and aesthetic/altruistic value of Nymeria, or lack thereof, in the show.

  11. The concept art for the crowns of the Five Kings 🙁 Robb’s iron sword crown was so cool, Dany’s dragon crown too probably.

  12. Is

Stoneheart really a spoiler though? Its only a name. I would hope that Unsullied would know not to search it up.

I will start doing it anyway.

  13. Love these Histories! Thanks, WotW for the heads up on this nice gift from Target.

I do not subscribe to the

    Varys/hidden Blackfyre

theory, so I’m glad to see a lack of confirmation here, at least in the tv world. Looking forward to seeing the rest!

  14. Sue the Fury,

Sorry, I don’t follow every discussion in each comment thread so it was tough to know where to post something as off topic as that. Or rather, I didn’t put much thought into it.

As far as posting goes, can I get clarification: is it not ok to post any link to trolling or humorous GoT things? I just saw it as funny, but if I’m missing some major guideline for posting comments, I’ll refrain.

  15. Lion of Night,

Obviously people link to humorous things. This isn’t funny, it’s just trolling, and we don’t permit that.

I am asking you to not perpetuate this because of the fifty emails in my inbox. Cool?

  16. Dogcheese,

Yes it’s a spoiler because people have mentioned it

in connection with Catelyn in some places and so if we are not generous with their spoiler coding, it can still lead to spoilers.

    Just cover it all.

  17. Dolorous Ned,

    If this is true

how will Robb Starks wife , know Briene and know to send her to get Jaime !!? At first I thought ok not to bad but thinking on it , it would suck and ruin one of the higher points to the story

You aren’t really taking that stuff seriously? It’s blatant trolling.

  19. I just saw like five other imbd pages , at first I did ,

i really think she’s not gonna get cut tho , I can’t see them doing the brotherhood without banners plot in the first place , most people think she’s gettin
Cut I just don’t see it happening , that was a bit premature
  20. I just realized the crowns they show in this video not only belong to the five kings (plus Aegon’s), but they seem to be more book-inspired, with Balon’s being made of driftwood and Renly’s having Tyrell flowers. We don’t really see them in the show at all.

  21. Honestly D&D shud just make a statement saying

stoneheart will never be on the show and be done with it … I’m sick of 3 season worth of disappointments all brought on by fans building up the hype and excitement … Then again I won’t be surprised if D&D just to mess with us even have the title for some episode named stoneheart and then have it mean something else like daenerys stoneheart or Stannis stoneheart or that pigeon whose undigested heart is now in poop that’s hardened to look like a stone
  22. Sansa’s Knight,

It’s still within the realm of possibility for the character to appear in the show. Not likely, but possible. The character has yet to really do something significant in the books, and what she has done could easily happen late in season 5/early in season 6. Even if the character is axed, it would make little sense to announce it. Let people continue to speculate and add intrigue to each season.

  23. I coulda sworn that someone from EW confirmed that Stonehart was not going to be on the show (ever), and was sort of speaking on behalf of the producers

  24. I still don’t buy for a second that the character won’t be on the show eventually.

Too much in-show foreshadowing. If they’ve decided to cut said character, I’ll get over it. But I honestly won’t believe that to be the case until the show actually ends.

  25. Tyrion Pimpslap,

At this point, any continued speculation of our lovely heart of stony darkness in the show is an act of self-flagellation and annoying mockery. My new show theory is that Brienne, after failing her mission with Arya & Sansa, will find her passion by joining the BwB and start hanging Freys.

In TWoW though, our infinitely disturbed Lady will indeed matter.

  26. This was awesome. Great topic for the first one released this season.
Loved the shot of bloodraven coming into focus as he loosed a storm of arrows over the redgrass. Varys with some key vocal inflections…. is he dropping hints?
Aegon rollin up with Fire AND Blood…. cut to the close up of the weirwood’s red leaves… no shortage of “blood” here…… dig. Introducing “dance themes” up next to the war of the five kings is pretty smart at this point, if there shall be a second dance at all.
Is there any significance to the line about the first king of the first men being “supposedly buried in the north”, or is that my overactive imagination?
Didn’t Maely’s the monstrous have two heads? Can’t wait to see Barriston the Bloated light somebody up this season…. (fingers crossed)
As always with these nuggets, the art is outstanding and the storytelling (topics and delivery) keeps getting better.
    STOKED

  27. Derek Lord (whose casting we already know about but whose role we didn’t know yet) will apparently be “Mallister Supporter”. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0520421/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t27

I know we all doubt IMDB a little more than usual of late because of yesterday’s shenanigans and the pages for premieres tend to be stuffed with fan-edits but I doubt any fan would have made this guess. Anyways, here y’all go.

Not much of a scoop, I know but for Luka Nieto’s purposes it should be helpful.

  28. AdmiralKyrd,

    Indeed.

So it looks like showMance will actually die on the stake, instead of being replaced by Rattleshirt, if Rattleshirts swanning around in Hardhome…

    That’s what you mean, right?

Could you link our two postimgs on the casting thread on AFOIAF (since I’m pasting-challenged on that site for whatever reason).

  29. Greenjones:

    Rattleshirt being alive

    doesn’t mean

    Mance will die.

I don’t see any reason why the latter would happen, it would be a big waste (you don’t just randomly off important characters played by high profile actors), and it would change everything, including the portrayal of Melisandre and her relationship with Jon.

  30. Annara Snow:
you don’t just randomly off important characters played by high profile actors

    There’s some precedent.

The simplest answer I think is that maybe we go to Hardhome twice or someone else substitutes or the building was reused for two locations. Rattleshirt can appear there early on and go visit Castle Black.

    Or maybe that’s Mance.

  31. Greenjones,

Thx for that. Regarding the brief “HH” teaser shots, I am confused.

Do you think the arriving party (Jon and some NW and “friendly” wildlings?) is met with antagonism or do you think they are there to help that massive greeting party defend against a building threat? (Probably the latter, and it is probably not a reconnaissance mission as it was planned in the books) In any case, Jon in a rowboat is intriguing…sort of a “fish out of water”….reminds me of Yara approaching the Dreadfort (ugghh). I hope he is not reading the pink letter to his mates for inspiration as they approach. 🙂

Seriously though, actually leaving CB in its current state to go save “HH” is a headscratcher. Lots of stuff to work out at CB with Stannis, Mel, Mance, Sam, Aemon and the wildlings, so this ranging to “HH” is most likely late in the season. The building “FtW” speculation may be onto something…the mutiny may not happen at CB. Wow.

  32. Huh, guess there’s more than one person posting on here as Jordan- maybe I need a new name.

But yeah, that has been discredited multiple times.

  33. Laura,

Well, it’s not to say it won’t happen in the finale (don’t get your hopes up though), just that there’s no way that the show would chose to spoil that twist, especially by adding that kind of entry to IMDB.

  34. Felt Pelt: There’s some precedent.

    Such as?

The only characters who have been killed off in the show but not in the books were minor characters who haven’t played any important role in the rest of the published books, or are completely interchangeable with other similar characters (Mago aka Angry Sexist Dothraki no. 2), and show-only characters who had played out their storyline.

  35. I didn’t see any context beyond “you don’t just randomly off important characters” which is what the show is famous for. That’s all.

  36. Hodor’s Bastard,

From the trailer it seems like Jon is on a rowboat with like five brothers at most so I do not think he is going to HH looking for a fight. I predict he is going to HH to invite the wildlings to come south of the wall then there will be some sort of scuffle. Maybe lord of bones is among the HH wildlings so it gives us a familiar face. who doesnt like Jon already. Then during the brawl the wights will attack and Jon will fight with the wildlings but there will be panic and them running to the boats. Jon will tell them to stand and fight “With me!!” however his nightswatch brothers will not die for a bunch of wildlings and then daggers in the Hardhome will happen.
  37. Crabber’s Son,

And then the Night’s King picks him up and throws him over his undead horse and rides off with him. Dun,dun, duh!!! Tune in next season to see what happens with Jon and the White Walkers!

FWIW, I don’t think ‘for the watch’ happens this season, if at all.

  38. Tyrion Pimpslap,

I didnt think so either but according to the fake script which seems real he gets

elected to be lord commander in the second episode. I expected it to be like episode 5 or 6 so instead he will have 8 episodes of being in charge which is more than enough for the scene to happen
