New Season 7 Photos Featuring Daenerys, Sansa and Littlefinger!

Dany Dragonstone Throne

Here’s a small appetizer just before the 4th of July sends you all off on BBQ & booze benders: two new photos were unveiled today by HBO on the MakingGameofThrones blog! Whispers of Westeros let fans know that the new images were available.

The first image (above) shows Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) approaching the throne in Dragonstone. This is a new addition for season 7, and I think we’re going to see a whole lot of Dany’s unique throne.

The second photo features Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) and Littlefinger (Aidan Gillen) wearing the same costumes we’ve seen in their previously released season 7 promotional images. There isn’t a great deal of info to be gleaned from the new image, admittedly. It looks like they’re still at Winterfell, with snow on the ground. Sansa doesn’t look pleased with Petyr,  but then when does she? As usual, he does look pleased with himself.

I love it!I’ll love it more when we get episode titles.😀

I don’t think the episode titles are named this season. TV guide had it listed as TBA 7.1 and now they updated all the episodes as Edpisode 1, Episode 2, etc. This is the latest we’ve gone without the premiere title so something’s up.

  2. Hmm unlike the other characters, we’ve only seen Sansa with one outfit just sometimes with the cloak or without it. Perhaps she’s happy with the one outfit she made.

  3. Given that the candle-holder stand thingy in the bottom left corner is on the ground, I wonder if this is Daenerys getting her first look at her new throne?

  4. Looks like LF is welcoming a new arrival to Winterfell, and Sansa is just a bit puzzled.

My first guess is Robin Arryn.

  5. Sansa has a look on her face that says she’s somewhat shocked at whatever LF just said. One can only guess how outrageous it was. Considering everything she’s been through with him, one would think there could be little he would say that would surprise her. And he does look pleased with himself, doesn’t he? It must be a doozy.

Is the stone throne the original that the Targaryen’s used? When we first saw pics of Dany sitting on it, I thought maybe it was something she had crafted after coming there. Now, showing the throne room in some disarray, with her approaching it, it looks like the original, even though we never saw Stannis on it.

  6. Mel,

There are at least two new outfits. This one is different from the one she’s wearing in the pic where everyone is in the Great Hall (at least the top is different) and there is another one with stylized Bolton “St Andrew’s crosses” on the skirt.

  7. Only two pictures, no episode title…. clearly GoT is cancelled. Time to hop on the Westworld train. Choo choo! 😛

Nothing’s ‘up’ other than that the US is in holiday mode right now. You can’t go by the number of days prior to the premier they have released them in the past because they haven’t started a season in the middle of July before. There will be episode titles as always and HBO will release them when they are ready to.

Can’t have a premiere without an episode title so a delay is possible.

  10. Lord of Coffee:

When they’re ready? S6 ended over a year ago and S7 premieres in 13 days. They’re still not ready lol? They’ve had more enough time.

  11. Jack Bauer 24: When they’re ready? S6 ended over a year ago and S7 premieres in 13 days. They’re still not ready lol? They’ve had more enough time.

Right, but releasing some of the episode titles will bring publicity and there’s no reason to do that during a holiday when people aren’t paying attention. GoT is a global show but HBO is still an American company so makes sense that the holiday would impact their marketing plans.

  12. Mel,

She’s had a couple of differences ones, it’s just that, per Clapton’s style, they’re barely distinguishable from each other.

  13. Lol! That ‘wut?’ expression from Sansa. Maybe LF knows the rest of the jackass and the honeycomb story. 😉

  14. I have to admit I’m just a wee bit tired of these Sansa/LF pictures that are mostly the same but included in just about everything they release. So now they’re talking IN the courtyard instead of talking overlooking the courtyard. wow

Not the season premiere, but Book of the Stranger’s title wasn’t officially announced by HBO until May 6th, airing on May 15th, just nine days later. And it wouldn’t surprise me if we had even fewer days this season between episode title announcements and their airing. What the lack of a premiere and titles tells me is that things might be too spoilery to release early, like “The Door.” They could release the titles right as the show airs, I imagine, and just call them “Episode 1” until then.

But for the S6 premeire they sent out an entire press release for “The Red Woman” 17 days before the premiere.

  18. Jack Bauer 24,

Once again I have to mention you’re one paranoid, single-thought focused individual. I wrote a week ago that you get something on your mind and let it consume you. It doesn’t matter what people comment to you, you just keep barreling on about the same thing in every post.

  19. Juri:
    Clob,

Everything does have to catter to your sensibilities… right?

Of course not… never said it did have to cater to me. It was a simple comment implying that with limited promotional photos it would be nice to get some more variety.

  20. Vally,

I can’t really see much of a difference between this one here and the one in the great hall, it’s the same colour, the same dress, the same accessories, the only difference I can see is the pattern on the top, in the hall they are simple lines, while in this one they are more diamond shaped but the dresses look so similar Sansa literally could of sewed a new pattern on the same dress. The dress on the EW cover at first looks like a new dress but again it’s the same look, the same accessories, she could of again just sewed a new pattern into her other dress but this time in both the top and the skirt.

Compared to the different clothes we’ve seen both Dany and Cersei wear in all the teasers for this season, Sansa barely has any variety. Maybe they are making up for when Sansa had variety and Dany wore the same blue dress for a couple of seasons. It would just be nice if all the girls had a equal amount if variety including Arya of course

I wasn’t even the one who brought it up. Other people have started to mention the absence of the premiere title.

  22. Photo captions:

#1 – “They expect me to sit on that? As daddy would say, Burn them all!!!”

#2 – “Party at Kappa Delta, dudes!”

  23. Jack Bauer 24,

LOL!! They’ll release them when they want to. We are not the arbiters of what is “too late,” and I highly doubt that they will hold up a whole darn season for lack of titles.

That said, they know what the titles are and their not releasing them just might be on purpose.
    #occamsrazor

  24. Mel: Compared to the different clothes we’ve seen both Dany and Cersei wear in all the teasers for this season, Sansa barely has any variety.

Considering they are in the far north, with limited supplies, and cold weather blowing in, it would be suspicious if she did have a lot of new clothes. Where would she get the supplies? The entire region has been ravaged by war for years now, and most of the supplies: fancy fabrics, threads, fastenings and other adornments would probably have to come from the south. I doubt many merchants would be bringing wares to the far north now.

I would expect that many of the castles had their own means to manufacture some fabric, homespuns and such. If Sansa makes any clothing now, it would be most likely from re-doing old clothing that might still be found at Winterfell. Maybe some of poor Walda’s clothing. Anything fancier would be out of place at this time. I was even wondering where she got the supplies to make new clothes when she was at Castle Black.

  25. Thronetender,

Given that she was able to produce rich blue fabric and silver thread at Castle Black, I doubt the cause of her current wardrobe is a lack of material.

  26. I do want to know the title for the episodes but they ll be here soon, theres no way a episode air without a title, its fine.

But what about the red carpet??? This is the really strange thing, they usually say the date a long time ago, and until now nothing, the last hope for the red carpet is this weekend or the next that is really weird. I demand a red carpet, if Theres none i ll be furious.

  27. Mel,

I think it makes sense, given the war and how much more isolated the North is given precarious conditions for seafarers during autumn in Planetos—not to mention Winterfell’s far-inland location compared to King’s Landing and Meereen—that Sansa does not have access to the same variety of fabrics and colors that Daenerys and Cersei do. I, for one, would be totally put off if she was running around in festive dresses while mourning Rickon in newly-arrived winter.

    Edit:
    Thronetender beat me to it!

  28. Sean C.,

This is a morbid line of thinking, but there might have been quite a bit of nice material left behind at Castle Black after the untimely demise of Shireen and Selyse.

There won’t be a Red Carpet Premiere next weekend because the season premieres. This weekend is the last chance for one.

And some shows don’t have episode titles they are simply “Episode 1”, “Episode 2”, etc. This is how Season 7 will be and TV guide has updated their schedule to reflect this.

  30. Didn’t Sansa’s raven-gram to LF (belatedly accepting his offer of the KotV after initially turning him down) say “You will be rewarded” ?

If I recall, somebody enlarged a screenshot and deciphered what her note said.

  31. Jack Bauer 24,
But GOT has name in its episodes dude, they wont stop naming the episodes hahahaahaha, im 1000000% sure the episodes ll have titles and before they air, dont paranoid.

Its just the red carpet im REALLY worried, and i said after this weekend cause maybe they do the red carpet 1 day before the premiere on 16 july. so the only dates to the red carpet now are 8, 9 and 15 of july.

  32. Clob,

    Hey Juri:
I’m getting a little irritated with the emphasis on LF and Sansa too.
Doesn’t mean I expect HBO to release only Hot Pie photos.

  33. Please, remaining days, hurry up and pass quickly! These discussions about title release dates and patterns of the Sansa dresses are killing me!

I was puzzled too about the premiere gala… But with all the odd things that have been happening around the world in crowded places, maybe it’s better that they just air the show. We want our tragedies to be constrained to the show.

Anyway, the last two premieres were kind of dissapointing: the actors could not say anything because of their contracts, and the journalists asked lots of stupid and worn out questions. Maybe it’s a good thing to have a breather?

Chill the fuck out, Agent Bauer.

My title predictions are maybe too revealing and I if my titles were right I could see why HBO would want to postpone posting them…

Episode 1 – The Father – Ned Stark is not Jon Snow’s father. Daenerys is back on Dragonstone that was ruled by Targaryens. Her father the Mad King is mentioned alot by Daenerys council. Cersei is the first Queen the seven Kingdoms… Tywin would be proud.

Episode 2 – The Mother – Lyanna Stark is Jon Snow’s mother. Bran knows this. Howland Reed knows this. Littlefinger might know this.
Lilttlefinger is always playing the game and trying to malnipulate Sansa. Maybe this info will be used by Littlefinger

Episode 3 – The Maiden – Arya Stark checks a few more names off her list. Brienne runs into the hound. Arya finds Gentry

Episode 4 – The Crone – Daenerys is on a roll and ready to land at King’s Landing

Episode 5 – The Warrior – Lots of battles

Episode 6 – The Smith – Samwell makes a discovery to defeat the white walkers and Jorah finds a cure for Greyscale

Episode 7 – The Stranger – The war is on with the White Walkers the wall comes tumbling down.

  36. Jack Bauer 24,

It’s been pretty accurate with other premieres so far besides GoT. Maybe the TWD one is just a placeholder for now because when you click on the link it says TBC/October, but this is the same site that had the premiere date for S4, S5, and S6 of GoT and it was right.

  37. Wolfish:

    Edit:

And she’s in mourning for a husband now that she’s a black widow. Or is she only a half-widow since she’s still married to Tyrion? Polygamy gets so complicated. Perhaps she could have the right half of her dress be black mourning and the left half of her dress be festive, awaiting her living husband’s return to Westeros.

  38. Wolfish:
    Sean C.,

This is a morbid line of thinking, but there might have been quite a bit of nice material left behind at Castle Black after the untimely demise of Shireen and Selyse.

Kudos to the GOT fandom… We can come up with an explanation for ANYTHING!!!

  39. If I had a penny for every time Jack Bauer types a comment that invariably includes “something’s up”….

  40. ghost of winterfell,
I think the easier explanation is that that blue dress was created not by Michele Clapton, but by April Ferry, and that’s why it breaks with the usual materials/style. I recently saw some videos summarising the costumes across the seasons, and Clapton really does have a distinct style. (The new dress fits in with it.)

    Ginevra,
Polyandry. Although I don’t think that anyone in their right mind would assume that Sansa would mourn Ramsay. (I do hope that she reconnects with Tyrion at some point, though! It would be cool to see such a basically divorced – or maybe divorced and remarried – couple on the show. Another thing so basic to us, but so novel to Westeros.)

  41. Clob,

They are the most boring charcters to me right now. I don’t mind when they are interactng with other people but together I don’t like them.

  42. Like a famous american Singer, Poet and Songwriter said: “Gimme Gimme more, Gimme more!”

  43. Jack Bauer 24,

You need to chill jack we will very likely get the premiere title this week via an entertainment weekly scoop. I must admit its odd they are not doing some sort of premiere this year but I suspect it’s leak control excercise.

  44. Jon Snowed,

Good. Fuck the premieres. People always leak shitty phone cam footage all over YouTube after them, and it’s impossible not to see that stuff if you watch other GoT videos. It gets recommended to you, and you inevitably see thumbnails and titles.

I’ve already been most spoiled on most of the season by one YouTuber who posts tons of videos about the leaks, with spoilers in his titles. All it takes is for one of his videos to be recommended to you for it to show up on your YouTube page, and suddenly you’re spoiled on a major plot point.

Enjoying these last two seasons is more important than having a red carpet event.

  45. Jack Bauer 24: But for the S6 premeire they sent out an entire press release for “The Red Woman” 17 days before the premiere.

Jack, hang tight there, buddy. Less that two weeks to go, you can do it. If you are the same person using this name that has been on here for the last few years, I look forward to your well worded, thought-provoking posts when the season starts, just like you used to post during past seasons.

But it seems this extra waiting for the season to start has take a toll on you – I remember you were pretty concerned about the writer’s strike a few months ago. To be honest, I never heard a word more about it – don’t know if it happened or if whatever issues the writers had were quickly settled or what. Now you’ve gotten really focused on other issues. It’s ok, red carpet, no red carpet, what the fuck, as long as the season starts on time, which I believe it will.

  46. Clob:
I have to admit I’m just a wee bit tired of these Sansa/LF pictures that are mostly the same but included in just about everything they release. So now they’re talking IN the courtyard instead of talking overlooking the courtyard.wow

I get the feeling HBO is trying to tell us something about Littlefinger. The look I see on Sansa’s face depicts she is dubious of what he is telling her. I’m not a Sansa fan however, so my interpretation may be completely off as I don’t usually watch her expressions with the same level of interest as I do with other characters.

If Littlefinger knows Ned is not Jon’s father, I imagine he would be happy to share this if it meant Sansa would gain control (provided he could somehow turn Sansa against Jon).

I don’t know if it’s accurate, but it *feels* as though we’ve seen more of Sansa and Littlefinger than we have of Arya. Naturally this could be for a number of reasons – first and foremost being the locations of Arya’s scenes would be too revealing to release. We all know Sansa and Littlefinger are at Winterfell; Littlefinger is a conniving opportunist; and he is in love with Sansa.

But back to your point 😉, you’re right. What’s the point in releasing basically the same photos – other than they are trying to tell us something. What that is though is a tougher nut to crack.

  47. Jack Bauer 24,

IIRC, DirecTV didn’t list ‘The Red Woman’ title until a few days before it aired. HBO decides when publications/content providers will release the information. Only a few people within each organization are provided with the information, and only provided the information when HBO is ready to release it.

To suggest there won’t be actual titles is silly. I know we are all getting a bit of cabin fever, so look to the past for comfort. It makes zero sense that D&D would suddenly change their method for this season. Especially if you think just how many episode titles of the six seasons applied to multiple characters. (Second Sons, A Man Without Honor, Oathkeeper, etc.)

  48. Clob,

Well if it makes you feel any better, in the first many pictures in the courtyard Sansa had the hair around her face down, in this one the hair around her face is braided back. So this is probably a different episode entirely, that means two seperate Sansa and Littlefinger courtyard scenes. So technically this is a new picture lol

  49. Yaga,

That’s probably the real reason, but people can still come up with reasonable in-universe explanations for almost anything 🙂 .

HBO announced “The Red Woman” on April 7th last year 17 days before the premiere. Not sure why Direct TV didn’t update their listing until until a few days before the premiere, but as you can see from my link, HBO put out an entire press release for it on April 7th, which means Direct TV could have updated it whenever they wanted.

  51. Jack Bauer 24,
Hey, why do you care about the Red Carpet thing, anyway? It’s not like you’re going. I mean, the episode names, OK, although I’m still not sure why they are so meaningful to you, but why do you care about the Red Carpet?

Can’t have a premiere without an episode title. So until they announce that then a delay is possible. I’m not suggesting they announce all 7 titles, just the premiere title. It puts the last official stamp on the premeire.

  53. Jack Bauer 24,

but the 17,000 tweets from the GOT twitter account “prepare for winter” and their twitter account back ground banner pic, and constant tweets about 07/16 are not official stamps ?? LOLs

  54. MeeraReed: We all know Sansa and Littlefinger are at Winterfell; Littlefinger is a conniving opportunist; and he is in love with Sansa.

I don’t think he’s in love with her, at least not with the kind of emotion and affection that we would call love. I think she is the woman with the best prospects for him to try and make use of at the moment. He’s a pimp through and through. He’s feeding her a story of him sitting on the throne with her at his side. Don’t you think he fed the exact same story to Lysa? That didn’t turn out so well, for Lysa.

Hopefully Sansa will remember how she embraced the story of her marrying Joffrey and becoming Queen some day, and remember what a disaster believing that fairy tale turned into.

I’m really beginning to believe that she and Arya will get together and devise a way to end Lord Petyr Baelish, once and for all. I’m more and more looking forward to their reunion. In rewatching the whole series, it became more apparent that Arya finding her sister is a big issue. After Harrenhall, when Jaqen told her to come with him, she said no, she had to find her family, AND her sister. “I have to find my sister.” There have been a few other times when she specifically says she has to find her sister. Their reunion has had a subtle set-up from the beginning, and I think it’s going to have a bigger impact than we realize.

Yeah, but that’s the title. Why do you care about the Red Carpet?

So you agree about the episode title then? And I’m more concerned about that then the Red Carpet. I’ve come to terms with there not being one this year it was just a fun thing to look forward to seeing everyone excited about the premiere.

I’ve asked her, but unfortunately she’s doesn’t know either. If she knew she would publish it. Considering she said a month ago that we should have episode titles “any day now, something went wrong.

  61. Jack Bauer 24,

OK. How about this? Since you no longer care about the Red Carpet, allow for the idea that it’s the Fourth of July today and so HBO probably does not want their promotion to be overshadowed by whatever else is happening in the US. Give yourself until tomorrow – only until tomorrow – with the anxiety about the title.

  64. Jack Bauer 24: Far from a troll. Been here for 3+ years.

I know you’re a regular here. I’ve been reading this site for a little over two years but I don’t think I’ve posted since late last year.

But just because you’re a regular doesn’t mean you couldn’t still be having some fun trolling people to pass the time until the season starts. On July 16th!

  65. Thronetender,

Didn’t LF explain during his whorehouse sexposition that his aim was to “f*ck the Starks”?

No love or anything remotely close to it involved.

  66. Natalie Abrams posted this little tidbit of a spoiler in EW for GOT

“Dany’s journey to Dragonstone won’t be easy given that Euron is out there looking for her, and you can expect at least one major character meet-up in the first hour.”

  67. Ten Bears,

I don’t know if he specifically said Starks, but if I remember correctly, he was quite bitter about his treatment by Cat – her choosing first Ned’s brother and then Ned, and treating him, LF, like nothing more than a poor relative. His subsequent treatment of any of the Starks though, shows that “F**king the Starks” was probably exactly what he was thinking.

  68. Lord of Coffee: I know you’re a regular here. I’ve been reading this site for a little over two years but I don’t think I’ve posted since late last year.

Yeah, he is/has been a regular.
“Hi Jack” and he has been known to post some pretty good stuff. Like I said, when the season does start, and his anxiety is quieted, I’m looking forward to what he has to say about events in the show. Don’t know why this anxiety now, but whatever. I’m not going to get bent out of shape over it. I’m out of shape enough from all the junk I’ve been eating the last few days. Stay cool, Jack.

Have a happy 4th everybody. — see you tomorrow.

  69. Jack Bauer 24: Considering she said a month ago that we should have episode titles “any day now, something went wrong.

Since you have infested all threads with your paranoia, making it extremely difficult for me to ignore your multiple posts, why don’t you enlighten me on just what you believe “went wrong”.

Thanks Thronetender. Looking forward to the season starting and actually discussing the show lol! Hope you had a good 4th.

  71. Mel: “Dany’s journey to Dragonstone won’t be easy given that Euron is out there looking for her…”

I think that’s speculation on her part. I don’t think she’s going to have any encounter BEFORE arriving and never did think that. A battle with Daenerys and her full army including dragons before she arrives, which would have to be early in episode one most likely, would be too early. It would result in either Euron’s defeat or a significant weakening to both sides before any war would technically begin.

    Dee Stark:
    Mel,

Euron is no major character to me. hes useless

In my own mind I agree. I have a feeling though that he’s going to be “leveled up” quite a bit for the show. That would/could be frustrating to watch but I suppose they do need another solid antagonist for the story…

    Do they though?
Ugh I don’t like him and hope they kill him off in episode 1

  73. Dee Stark,

    Clob,

It’s not speculation, spoiler room is where they ask producers little tidbits of spoilers for a show.
Euron I don’t consider a major character yet either, he hasn’t quite done anything as of yet to be one. It might though be him or it could be someone else completely we don’t expect.
It might not be a battle at all though, perhaps it is someone still living in Dragonstone for all we know. That wouldn’t be too unbelievable, Stannis would of left someone behind there.
