New images from Dubrovnik filming of pivotal scene

scene14Filming continued today in Dubrovnik, Croatia, real-life home to Westeros’ capital city of King’s Landing. Today we are seeing a continuation to yesterday’s filming of a pretty significant moment in the books.

Super spoilery photos and commentary after the jump, so be warned, unsullied readers, and continue on at your own risk!

New photos of Cersei’s walk of shame have surfaced, featuring our first look at Lena Headey (or her body double) during the long walk through the city. As you can see below, much like in the books, Cersei has had her signature blond locks sheared away prior to her shaming, and from the mud, blood, and (feces!?) apparent on her back, she’s receiving a lot of abuse from the population of King’s Landing.

scene02 scene01

In addition to shots of Cersei, we also have some photos of the crowd and a few Lannister guards.

scene19 scene17 scene15 scene14

Since it looks like David Nutter is directing this scene (see below), we can expect Cersei’s walk to fall in either episode nine or ten of season five.

So, for anyone worried about how closely Cersei’s walk would follow the scene in the book, these photos seem to indicate that it will be just as gritty and heart-wrenching on screen as it was on the page.

  1. I think its entirely possible that Lena herself filmed the end of the walk today, while the body double did the major shots where she gets stuff thrown at her yesterday. It just doesn’t work not to have an entire shot of her body + Lena’s face for this scene. Plus we didn’t even have any scoop that they were still filming parts of the scene today, so we didn’t technically have the full scoop whether Lena was doing any nude shots

  2. Holy crap, I love this. I love how they use the body suit and body paint to creatively hide her tattoos. This will be an awesome season ender for the KL storyline.

[Except for the awards and contests, I don’t see how the UnSullied can read any of these threads! I feel bad for them…..not!]

  3. Wow, it’s going to be epic I’m sure. Can’t wait to watch this! Maybe I missed it being posted but what episode number do you think the walk will be?

  4. Aryamad,

If someone spots the director, I’m sure we’d had a better idea. However, based exclusively on the fact that this is a climactic event, I’d say episode 8, 9 or 10 are the most likely possibilities.

EDIT. I’m pretty sure that’s David Nutter in this photo, in a blue shirt, in the center:

    http://watchersonthewall.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/scene11.png

So it’s either episode 9 or 10. If this can be confirmed, it should probably be added to the article.

  5. I don’t know if I can comment this here but I’ve just had a thought about

the greyjoy storyline. As casting news has been minimal maybe it’s been cut, it could potentially make sense with the potential Aegon omission. Instead of Victarion having the horn maybe Varys and Illyrio has it – therefore their plan is to use it to control the dragons and taking over for themselves (or something similar)! This would omit the need of Aegon and suggest he is in fact FAegon in the books. With Daenerys already winning the Mereenese navy it would mean she could still get go Westeros without the need of Victarion’s fleet.

apologies if this isn’t acceptable for this page.

  6. Mine is the Furry:
    Heart wrentching?Fuck that noise.

I’ll be repacking my bowl and putting my feet up!

As will I… let the hate flow through the streets of Kings Landing!!

    BROTHERFUCKER!!!
  7. GRRM’s best trick is to make Cersei so evil and horrible in the books… But even she didn’t deserve this.

Now just kill her remaining kids, George, so she can be ruined and jump out of a tower.
  8. whoa this is gonna be fucking nuts. If this winds up in e9, I wonder if

we’ll get to the actual trial in e10. H.J. Bjornsson seems to be in the area, could get some Robert Strong action.
  9. I’ve been more sympathetic towards Show Cersei than I was for Book Cersei. However, the book part of me is gonna be cheering and jeering.

  10. The walk is an interesting part of Cersei’s arc, but not really game changer. In the books we’ve yet to see how it’s really affected her, and how much she’s just acting nicer while under the thumb. It’s not at all comparable to the level of importance to the other big events like the Red and Purple Weddings, Tyrion’s trial, Oberyn v Gregor, Blackwater, “Dracarys”, etc. The trial we’ve yet to see may be that level but we don’t yet know. If they don’t get there in this season, that will be disappointing. I hope this walk isn’t the only big episode 9 event.

  11. What a lovely way to spend one’s birthday. Stripped naked and humiliated in front of 100s of jeering strangers… Abused and covered in shit. Perfect!

  12. Lena will tell her grand children about this name day of her ! (:

its funny how some of the extras are eating next to her some of the fruit that a moment ago they were throwing at her (:

  13. In a way the Walk of Shame is the sequel of Baelor and the King’s Landing Riot. So in other words it’s pretty much guaranteed to make your breath catch.

  14. SerCountryFriedSteak: GRRM’s best trick is to make Cersei so evil and horrible in the books… But even she didn’t deserve this.

Not only that but the injustice of it is that she’s not even being punished for the objectively evil and horrible things she did, but instead

she’s being punished for having sex outside marriage!

    Fukin patriarchy.

Edit: OK I can’t get spoilers to work. wtf.

  15. Mormont: In a way the Walk of Shame is the sequel of Baelor.

Full stop. That’s the best parallel. And you can craft an equally amazing ninth episode (or even 10th) where this is a centerpiece but it’s not a “battle” in the way Blackwater/WoTW was.

  16. Saw this on WiC about the video of the Dubrovnik filming posted on the last post here.

“Is this Lady Olenna? We can’t be sure. Our tipster, discoverdctours, admits it could be her, or it could be Septa Lemore. Both are very plausible.”

    There are no words…

  17. Pablo Meireles,

Those can be covered with make-up. The cheekbone and jawline in the pictures look like hers but it’s really not a close enough look to be able to tell from just the one side of her face.

  18. Jeb,

Septa Lemore? Them’s fightin’ words if one mentions such a revered character carelessly. Her appearance will be reserved for a less pivotal, more wondrous scene on a different continent. 😉

  19. Jeb,

I know, I lost faith in them a long time ago. The only reason I keep visiting is because of things like this.

  20. Balerion The Cat,

Hopefully we’ll see something in the next couple days. I’d be ecstatic if Tyrion, Varys and particularly Illyrio were spotted at the Villa. Still, I’d be almost as happy if someone spotted Roger Allam, who plays Illyrio, in Croatia. That’d be confirmation enough for me.

  21. Luka Nieto,

That’s what I’m hoping too, hopefully Seek New Travel will be able to check that Villa and give us some scoop. Btw, does anyone know when filming in Croatia (not Dubrovnik) will be over?

  22. Balerion The Cat,

Aren’t they done in less than a week or so? After filming at the villa, presumably. And then Spain. Still, I know they film in a few places at once (they do have two or three different filming units, depending on the season; Raven, Dragon and Wolf, if I recall correctly.)

    Greenjones,

Well, the villa is like 5 minutes away from the city, according to Google Maps, so I’m pretty sure it was included in the filming schedule as part of the Dubrovnik shooting.

  23. Greenjones,

    Luka Nieto,

I see, so Monday or Tuesday we’re off to Spain. It could be harder to get pictures there, but hopefully since it’s the first time GoT is filming in Spain, the local press should be excited enough to try their best in getting pics and information from the set.

  24. Balerion The Cat,

I imagine the filming at the Alcazar will be pretty close-off. It’s tricky to completely isolate a city street, but a private site like that, with high walls? I doubt we’ll see photos of any actual filming. Still, we probably will get to see the actors that play the Dorne and Meereen-related characters around Sevilla and Osuna. Hopefully also photos of them in character. The filming of Daznak’s Pit at Osuna may be just as inaccessible, unless some of the hundreds of extras go against what they’ve been told and take a couple pics.

But they are not only filming at the Alcazar or the bullfighting ring. Other locations that have been mentioned are more open to prying eyes. If they also film in natural locales, that’ll be easy footage too.

  25. Luka Nieto,

Yeah, this is likely our last swath of good set pics. Hopefully the absence of good images is made up for with casting news in the next two months…

  26. Reading some of the guesses from these comments is interesting.

All I will say is that there is definitely no body costume on that picture.

  27. Greenjones,

It is, I mean all they need is him welcoming Tyrion and Varys + maybe another exterior scene and the rest could be filmed in Belfast later. It is possible!
I’ve been waiting to see Illyrio again ever since season 1 ended. I need this to happen!

  28. Greatjon of Slumber,

I am warming up to the idea of the Daznak Pit being in the finale so episode 9 would end with the Walk after a few minutes of the battle at Winterfell (ending in a cliffhanger to add suspense to the Pink Letter in the finale).
  29. jentario,

You’re already jumping to the fat pink letter? My God, S5 will contain a bunch of stuff and move along quickly.

    MisterLister,

Nylon, nude body stocking, like the female celebrities wear under their slinky dresses. Maintains some dignity for the actress but to the viewer it seems nude from a distance. (yeah..I’m arguing for no real reason)

  30. Hodor’s Bastard,

If you were already aware that they’re filming Daznak’s Pit and the Walk, why wouldn’t the Northern storyline arrive at the same chronological point, which is the Battle of Winterfell and the Pink Letter? For me, the minute that the Walk and Daznak’s Pit were confirmed, it became obvious that Season 5 will cover most or probably all of AFFC & ADWD. Hells, we saw them filming Mace and Trant at Braavos negotiating with the Iron Bank and Arya noticing Trant (and presumably killing him), which is adapted from the “Mercy” chapter in which Harys Swift and Rafford go to Braavos under the same circumstances and Arya kills Raff. So, at least for Arya, some TWOW material will be covered. Considering Bran and Sansa almost reached the end of their published material last season, I’d bet we’ll get some TWOW stuff from them as well, although probably not much and not until the end, like Arya (whose Braavos scenes were directed by Nutter, so either episode 9 or 10.)
  31. I just hope that this scene isn’t edited in a way where the pieces of dung thrown at Cersei appear to be received consensually. Because in the books, it is clearly not consensual. Although we don’t have the shits POV do we?

  32. tyjon:
    Aryamad,

Ms Headey has a body 99.9% of the women on this planet wished they’d have.

Can I say a well deserved DUH. 🙂 I was poking fun at book Cersei.

  33. Hodor’s Bastard,

Agreed. Streamlining the story enough to be able to fit AFFC and ADWD into ten episodes has been heavily criticized, and I get why —a lot of good stuff will be sorely missed by us book-readers (Arianne, YG, the Greyjoy uncles.) However, it ALSO means we’ll get a very satisfying season of GoT as a TV show on its own terms.

Why do I say that? We must consider that cutting those books in half would’ve been really difficult: very few storylines have a natural climax around the middle of either novel (as opposed to Season 3, which made good use of the Red Wedding in the middle of ASOS); and obviously they wouldn’t present it the same way as in the books, splitting Season 5 and 6 geographically instead of chronologically, which was weird for the books and it’d be madness for the show. So covering both books in one season makes sense in that respect, and it does mean we will get a season jam-packed with amazing stuff.

It’ll be the least faithful and less comprehensive season yet in relation to the books but, at the same time, also one of the most exciting seasons, with big events occurring almost every episode.

  34. It sucks that mainstream media has been horrible at keeping spoilers this year. These pics are now all over the web with headlines that read

Cersei’s naked walk of shame confirmed!

    Fucking inconsiderate, click-bait assholes.

  35. King DBC,

    Yep. They are vultures.

Wicnet, a site which we all once cherished, completely bungled their headline about it in a vulturish way too. They’ve backtracked somewhat but still, very few people are reporting it responsibly. Ah well.

  36. Greenjones,

    That sucks.
Not even so much as a hint of a spoiler, put the spoiler IN the headline. People won’t even have to open the article to have it spoiled.

  37. My favorite part of her storyline in the book isn’t “the walk” but everything leading up to it.

  38. Michelle Fairley has a new interview up and comments on

    resurrecting again:

“Usually, when you get killed, that’s you out of the series. So the lovely flip side to this is that, she may have died, but she’s had a chance to come back again. And I absolutely love it… It’s the quality of the writing and the quality of the character that you, as an actor, go for. It doesn’t matter if they live, die, become reincarnated or resurrected again. You have to have love and an enjoyment about what you’re given to work with. She’s in a second round here, so it’s fantastic”.

  39. Rod:
Michelle Fairley has a new interview up and comments on

Where is this interview? The way this is worded, if true, would make it bombastic news.

Because she can’t be talking about Margot Al-Harazi. Is there any other role of hers that could fit this description?

  40. Rod,

Who’s the interview with? I imagine its for s2 of Resurrection which she’s on

but if the conversation was pivoted to GoT, with the name of her other show, LSH comes up naturally as a topic…
  41. Rod,

Michelle Fairley is going to play a character that rises from the dead. It’s just in a different show.

  42. Fjordgazer,

She’s in a show called Resurrection. She was probably referring to that but I’d need to see the context of the quote to know for sure.

  43. I’ve said on two occasions after speaking to people inside the production of season 5, that the body double is the spitting image of lena. Yall got to stop dreaming. Lena ain’t doing no nude scene

  44. Will do:
I’ve said on two occasions after speaking to people inside the production of season 5, that the body double is the spitting image of lena. Yall got to stop dreaming. Lena ain’t doing no nude scene

    Really Will do?
And still your comments continue to amuse me… 😉

  45. Tykohn,

    Ms. Sparkles,

What’s the problem with you people? What has “Will do” done to you? Besides revealing lots of information as an extra, including the Illyrio thing. I mean, something bad. Do you people want to leer at Lena Headey so bad that you don’t even want to hear about the most informed opinion in this article? Even if he’s wrong, he’s more informed than any of us.

  46. what is the different ?! if its a body double or Lena her self did it does it matter ?! we are going to have a naked actress walking at the end ! most people will not even know the difference and will not notice that there is another woman walking in the place of Lena ! because they will do it really good just like they did when using body doubles for other characters , what if D&D tell you that there is no walk of shame scene because they didn’t like it and felt its unimportant and instead they will replace it with Missandi and grey worm looking at each other naked scene (: then you will find something better to talk and argue about than whether or not they will use another human body walking a street instead of another that look just like it (:

I`m sorry but I only see what matters ! (:

PS : no casting news for Wyman Manderly yet .

I think the actor who gets cast as Lord-Too-Fat-To-Sit-A-Horse might need a body suit as well. 😉

This is a joke right?! right??

Bodydoubles should be outlawed. It’s cheating of the viewers. you dont take them seriously…
Stunt doubles are logical. Sometimes it’s necessary.
Bodydoubles arent ever necessary. Sure there are exceptions (like Lena being pregnant in S1) but otherwise they are just beyond ridicilous. As an actor it’s your job to accurately portray the role and sometimes that involves taking off your clothes. If you wont do that you simply arent a good actor… Lena has been naked in the past before (even full frontal in Aberdeen) so she is no stranger to this.
I have no doubt we’ll see her naked. The Bodydouble must be for long shots they didnt feel like bothering with asking Lena to do those. If not… that’s another strike against D&D. Really really scared for S5…

  49. Luka Nieto:

Oh right. And how do you know this my lovely? Who says his is the “most informed opinion”? You never know who you are talking to on here… Just because “Joe Bloggs” claims to be an extra and spouts a couple of untruths doesn’t suddenly make them “fact” just because you got suckered in and happen to agree with him. You say “even if he is wrong” about all this, that he is still the “most informed”? Really? If he is wrong about all these major things (which he is), one would assume that he has been trolling and talking out of his arse the entire time…

  50. Ms. Sparkles,

What we know for fact is that he was in Dubrovnik during the filming and that he supplied the Illyrio mansion news (though I guess we don’t know for sure it’s Illyrio’s, just that Tyrion is likely involved). He even gave pictures. At the very least, we should have the decensy to treat him well and be respectful. He repeatedly stated that his info on the Walk is second hand information, and that means it could just be a set rumor. So even if you DO know more than Will do on this matter (which you are implying, but you haven’t given any pictures or evidence at all so sorry if people aren’t believing you as much as they did Will do) and even if Will do is being a little bit persistent on what he heard on the set from what could well be unreliable people and even if he is absolutely and completely wrong about this one detail… Give him some slack please 🙂

  51. Mine is the Furry,

So you are comparing having sex to throwing shit at someone/ having shit thrown at you? Nice! I mean if that’s your thing, good for you, but man… I also love how people that complain that there was too much talk about the rape/not rape scene (who knows, right?) are always the ones bringing it up!! Look, the scene was badly made, deal with it. No matter how many snarky comments you write about it, this is not going to change.

  52. jentario,

No, I think she should yell: “Please don´t throw shit at me”, “No, please, please don´t”!! And then the director should try to convince us that the purpose of the scene was to show that she actually wanted the shit thrown at her, because she touched it at a certain point!!

And then people will start to argue that having shit thrown at you is complicated, because you know, some people like it. And then the show will go on, and Cersei will go on with her life, as if the shit-throwing scene never happened.

  53. Ms. Sparkles: Oh right. And how do you know this my lovely? Who says his is the “most informed opinion”? Will Do has sent us a lot of new photos that we didn’t even publish (for various reasons), proving beyond a doubt that he was there on set. Can you do the same? I doubt it. The person coming off as a troll here is you.

  54. Barry: This is a joke right?! right??

Bodydoubles should be outlawed. It’s cheating of the viewers. you dont take them seriously…

No. This is NOT cheating of the viewers. The fact that she has done nudity before is irrelevant. No one here is entitled to see Lena Headey’s naked body. If she chooses to reveal any of herself or use a double, that’s all up to her. She’s a fantastic actress and I don’t think not revealing her private parts is somehow compromising the integrity of the entirety of season 5.

  55. Barry,

Actually, it’s your post that is a joke. This is Lena’s choice and she has the right to decide not to display her body. This scene will be impactful, regardless of who is actually naked. What possible difference could that make to the season as a whole?!

    Ms. Sparkles,

It is helpful to actually read the various threads before slamming someone’s claims of authenticity.

  56. Barry,

Getting naked is one thing, getting naked in front of a crowd of one hundred strangers that shout “whore!” at you and throw rotten vegetables, though… It’s not easy. Most actors (even ones that have no problem getting naked) wouldn’t be up for it. And in any case, I do think Lena has a few shots using her actual body, but every opportunity where that wasn’t necessary was taken up by her stand in (which is most of the scene, I guess). When you look at her back, does it really have to be Lena? Just so she’ll feel like shit? And when it’s a close up shot on Lena’s face? Nope. You only really need a couple of shots where the actual Lena is naked to sell the scene in my opinion. A few of those could be done in-studio, in the Sept set where it’s not nearly as uncomfortable.

  57. That bit** finally gets what she deserves…
When I read this scene in the books it gave me more revengeful pleasure than the PW.

Talking about some possible cuts: (I dont know how to mark spoilers, so brace yourself, close your eyes unsullied, spoilers are coming)

I don’t think that the whole Aegon part will be cut. What I believe is, that he just won’t meet Tyrion and we most certainly won’t see the Griffin on screen, but with the casting Trystane Martell, i think we have a potential Aegon here. When you think about it, he never does anything in the books and maybe they just wanted to spare the audience further confusion and have him hide at Sunspear.
  58. No its not a joke 🙂 she did a wonderful acting in Got and she got nominated for an emmy , you cant say she is not a good actress because she asked for a body double to help her in a very hard scene and to carry the havey lifting with her , try walking naked in you neibhood with your neibhoors throwing rotting food at you and laughing and calling you a whore or sister/brother fu*ker , it will be hard for you even if you were pretending , the important thing in the scene is to have Cersie lannister naked not Lena heady .

Ps: I know I have spelling mistakes 🙁

  59. Queensmoot:
    Mine is the Furry,

I loved the scene in the Sept and thought that it was done exactly as it should have been with no ambiguity. I was making a joke. Deal with it.

  60. Nedhead,

Nope. No amount of money is worth it. And she won’t even get the recognition :/

They should put her in the opening credits for what she had to go through

  61. really people?! It’s the JOB. It’s in the job description. It was known when taking on the role. She has been saying from day 1 she was ready for this scene.
Of course it’s cheating of the viewers. It always is. You dont take them seriously. You think that doesnt draw one out of the scene? Awkward shots that make it evident it’s not the real actress doing the shot??. That damages the integrity of the show and while that might be fine with lesser networks its certainly not something that belongs at HBO.
Still i am sure she did the actual nudity in front of green screens and the body double is just for long shots.

Anyhow clearly there is no point arguing this since these views are literally at the very other end of the spectrum and i dont feel like convincing people in a pointless argument.

  62. Barry,

Oh, so you saw the scene, right? You saw the poorly executed shots and the actress that has nothing to do with Lena, and it totally ruins the scene. I imagine it must have been a disaster.
Pleeeaase people, discussing the possibilities is one thing, saying the scene was poorly executed when they have barely filmed it is just stupidity/stubborness.

  63. RandomSand,

I guess someone could argue that the nudity is an important part of the performance but the fact is whether its the actor or the double, they’re still portraying the character. Anyways, Will do said that Lena did some shooting on the street after the extras had left and she could have always shot a bit in the Sept of Baelor set in N.I., so if people are really insistent that she be the one naked, she could have shot a bit of the scene then when tons of people weren’t around.

    jentario,

Yeah, she’s a trooper for sure. I hope she’s given some credit when the episode airs and heaps of praise are thrown to Lena. A rough gig indeed.

  64. IMO, it’s a pity if Lena didn’t any nudity in this scene. But after all is said and done, i’d rather have body doubles than having the scene, or the character, cut from the show.

So, if somehow there’s an infinitesimal chance that we get Arianne, but with a conservative/shy actress who won’t do the nudity expected from such character, bring on the the BD’s!

  65. So I think this is the first time that the old site has some exclusive pictures, go check it out if you want. You can see Jonathan Pryce in the High Sparrow costume and some pictures of what looks like either Tywin’s funeral or The Walk (I’m guessing the funeral, since Tommen is there). I would have linked them but I don’t want to cause troubles 🙂

  66. Balerion The Cat,

Come on, let’s not be childish. Give WIC some credit for this one. The old site’s rep still earns them exclusives, as was to be expected. They already got the spanking they deserved, holding grudges is counter productive.

    Here: http://winteriscoming.net/2014/10/05/exclusive-high-sparrow-kings-landing/

And no wonder Pryce wasn’t spotted, look at that costume! Looks like a filthy commoner!

EDIT: just to be clear I wasn’t calling you specifically childish, but I think avoiding the old site is pointless at this point. Don’t be afraid to link it, no one will lynch you.

  67. Dutch maester,

That is definitely very interesting. IF the poster is legit, and his describing the Tommen steps scene before images were posted at least means he’s a very dedicated trickster,

that means the return of Lancel, which I have been praying for now for a long time, and a confirmation Littlefinger returns to KL, and… why would Tommen want to see the High Sparrow in episode 3/4, if Cersei is not kidnapped yet?

Also, equal time nudity. They’re trying!

  68. Felt Pelt,

For the approval of his marriage to Margaery? Also, he mentions Loras is now a member of the Kingsguard, and that all scenes he describes are from episode 4 (which is perfectly in line with what we’d heard previously)

  69. Dutch maester,

It could be perfectly in line because the OP dials in to the news and writes his “info” around all that. But this could be real, I don’t know.

  70. Luka Nieto,

David Nutter is dark brown haired, wearing a dark/navy short sleeved button front shirt with green cargo shorts, white socks and tennis shoes.

  71. David Nutter has a full head of very dark brown, standard/conservative cut hair, wearing a dark/navy button up, short sleeved shirt, army green cargo shorts, white socks and worn white tennis shoes. Lena said she is personally in all shots of these scenes except where she is bare breasted or when/if her bottom is exposed. In those shots they put her head on the body of her body-double.
