New Game of Thrones set photos, and the Dothraki head to Belfast!

We have a special new batch of photos from a Game of Thrones set in Northern Ireland, but first let’s check in with the latest sightings.

First up this week: Faceless Man Tom Wlaschiha was spotted in Belfast two days ago, posing with a fan. Wlaschiha has, much like last year, been very low-key during filming and hasn’t been photographed filming on location in the way that his co-stars Maisie Williams (Arya) and Faye Marsay (the Waif) have been.

In other sightings: Belfast seems to be filling up with Dothraki, getting ready for the huge setpiece that will be filmed in the first two weeks of November in Northern Ireland.

Joe Naufahu shared a photo on Instagram yesterday saying he was headed to Belfast. Deadline announced the actor’s casting last month in a “multi-episode arc,” in an unknown role. Though not official yet, it’s believed that Naufahu is playing one of the major Dothraki khal roles in Daenerys’s story for season 6.

It looks like Naufahu is hanging out in transit to Belfast with Staz Nair, whose casting surfaced two weeks ago.

Also in the city today: Andrei Claude Instagrammed from Belfast this morning. The Maltese actor and model posted a photo of long Dothraki-esque false hair last week. It’s safe to assume he’s playing a Dothraki as well.

We don’t know yet where the Dothraki scenes will be filmed within N.I.- if Game of Thrones will be returning to previously used area or new spots. We’ll keep you posted as news comes in on this one. It’s rather hard to hide a Dothraki horde, even a small one.

There was a rather interesting rumor coming out of Northern Ireland this weekend.

We haven’t yet heard any more details about possible filming in Lisburn, but we’ll keep digging.

And last, we have some new photos of the set at Saintfield, N.I., that was the focus of major filming last month!

WotW reader Hogwort visited the Saintfield area and snapped photos of the props that were laying on the ground.  For people who have been following the news concerning the Saintfield filming, these will not be major spoilers, but if you are spoilerphobic, you may want to skip this final section as there are

The photos shows the fake corpses including human and horse needed for the big battle shot in Saintfield. Bear in mind, all the props we see may be arranged differently on screen, as the photos were taken before filming began that day.

In the first photo, we see the sigil of House Umber on a dead horse.

Saintfield 7

Here we have dead horses with the sigils of Houses Bolton and Karstark, and behind it, a pile of fake corpses containing another horse, and, based on costuming, humans from both the Northerners and the wildlings side of the fight.

Bolton and Karstark horses

And a close-up of a burnt cross. The dummy is featureless. We heard details about the burning cross and more in our spoiler report last week.

Hopefully more exciting set reports will be flowing in with the big Dothraki scene coming!

  1. The battle is going to be huge! 😀
    Dead Boltons! 😛
Sad that we don´t know who are the actors playing Karstark and Umber 🙁

  2. I approve of GOT casting a ton of ridiculously hot men as Dothraki this season.

The horse/people “corpses” make me sad, even though they’re clearly fake.

  3. NYMEEEEERIA!
Exciting news. The dummy on the cross has a missing leg and arm, don’t know if that is relevent, but I could see Ramsay torturing the person before burning him/her.
The battle will be EPIC, but I’m really afraid of the outcome (and I’m happy that hasn’t been spoiled).

  4. Do you think the bodies are in piles before the crew starts distributing them out along the battlefield? Or does this mean there is a decisive Stark or Bolton victory and its solely enemy corpses that are piled?

  5. Balerion The Cat,

It’s not missing a leg. One leg is colored white, the other is colored the same as/similar to the cross. From this angle, it does appear to be missing an arm, but who knows if that’s a plot point or on-set/filming damage. Dummies can be fragile.

  6. I think dothraki are going to be filming in the quarry and the set they are building maybe volantis ..

  7. Those piled up dead horses and bodies are so creepy. Can’t wait to find out who is on the cross. It better not be Brienne!! Maaaybe the Boltons found Stannis’ body and tried to take credit for his death. After Jon royally kicks Ramsay’s arse maybe Mel sets the body on fire. I dunno, that’s just my prediction… Just hoping it’s not Brienne and Pod!
  8. H.Stark,

I’m actually kind of surprised that casting hasn’t leaked. With all the hundreds of extras at the battle you’d think someone would’ve noticed who is playing the lord characters and gotten that info out on the internet somewhere.

Also, I’m really bummed seeing the Umber stuff with the Bolton. I really hope they’re going to betray Ramsay, because I’m not sure if I can deal with the Umbers as bad guys.

  9. I’m sure its hard work and long hours, but the GoT actors seem like they have a blast shooting in such beautiful cities. No wonder no one wants their character killed off.

  10. I am a bit sceptical about the wolves in Lisburn. How would they transport a pack of wolves to Northern Ireland? They’d have to have a real good fence to avoid them to run away. And it’s very difficult to control a whole pack of wolves, that would be very dangerous for everyone involved. I think it’s much easier and cheaper to film the wolves somewhere in a controlled environment with their trainers/stuntmen and CGI them where they need to be.
Last year Ghost was filmed in Canada quietly in a city studio , because that was easier.
But I could be wrong of course…

  11. Looks like there is an 8 written on the fake body on the cross.
Maybe we’ll see 8 crosses and 8 corpses on them?

  12. Glad you all like the photos…. it took quite a few late nights/very early mornings to be able to get onto the set to get these.

  13. Well damn…who will be left to fight the real threat?

The Umber role in this battle is really piquing my interest!

  14. Afeastfordances: I’m actually kind of surprised that casting hasn’t leaked. With all the hundreds of extras at the battle you’d think someone would’ve noticed who is playing the lord characters and gotten that info out on the internet somewhere

I imagine those extras were strongly warned/threatened about leaks. We had numerous discussions on WotW when the season ended about those HBO “snipers” and why Kit would lie about Jon’s fate. Someone one here even confirmed somehow that those HBO spies were real, and that the cast was being warned about leaks.

A week that starts with Bolton corpses is a good week. Yay!

And Yay to the hot Dothrakis, too.

  15. Time for some Stark vengeance.

Really hyped for that battle, but who will be burn by Ramsay. The list is not so big, but still it’s hard to predict. For the sake of it let’s burn Mel since she likes fire so much.

That set in Magheramorne quarry could be for Daeny’s storyline. Maybe it’s that battle some people were talking about. Meereen or else? It’s entirely possible that these guys are gonna shoot interior scenes and that’s it.

  16. Too late to edit my post but I forgot the

burning of bodies on the cross was happening during the battle. D’oh!
  17. I think the biggest spoiler of all of this isThe burning of the corpses is a dead giveaway that Jon Snow and his allies WIN the battle! Why would Ramsey and Roose burn the dead and not just leave them for the crows? 🙂

  18. Chilli:

Ghost was done in Canada last year, WIC put a link on their site to the wolf trainer today.

  19. Agree with peeps upthread. Dead horse dummy creeps the hell out of me 🙁

    Matt,

It would be the height of ridiculousness for Ramsay to ALWAYS get his way! I would riot. WOULD RIOT! if he wins this one too. Clearly, no one in the production wants TW to riot 😛 Cookies firmly on Jon Snow.

  20. I don´t know about you guys but the news that the season premiere has been pushed back was a major downer for me.

And now i read about the battles i´ve been waiting to see since i read the last book knowing its a half a year away … Just sucks.

  21. Thronetender: A week that starts with Bolton corpses is a good week. Yay!

    Hahaha…so true!

I had to keep focusing on where the leg of the “horse corpse” was broken off to remind myself it wasn’t a real horsey. It’s amazing how real it looks, otherwise.

  22. Melisandre in the show:
“The true war lies to the North. Death marches on the Wall.”
” After the long summer, darkness will fall heavy on the world. The stars will bleed. The cold breath of winter will freeze the seas… and the dead shall rise in the North.”

  23. Jesus, that first photo of the fake dead horse was disturbing. I had to repeat to myself
‘it’s just a prop not a real horse’. The body on the X was also unsettling. GoT certainly doesn’t cheap out on their props.

  24. jentario,

I was someone who liked/argued the idea that

    Rickon would burn,

tought it was a good end and good drama.

But I don’t think we can guess correctly who will burn from the size of the dummy. They could easly CGI the corpse to be bigger.

  25. jentario,

That was my thought. Here’s hoping we’re wrong

EDIT: I guess Sue confirmed on the other thread we need not worry about Rickon… maybe Olly indeed. Maybe Alliser and Olly?

  26. Fu Manchu,

I honestly think the ASOIAF community would be experts at waiting at this point.

I quite like the quiet state of the fandom during offseason… The fandom got so toxic last season that I am no longer in any rush for season 6 to start unless it was pushed back to like… 2017

  27. Where’s a number 8 on the burned corpse? I must need stronger reading glasses.

Yes, those horse props are amazingly real. On the other hand, it made me smile, thinking of someone in charge of ordering “200 Dead Horses,” and an even bigger smile thinking of the manufacturer of these things devising ways to make 200 realistic dead horses. What a crazy, wonderful world this can be sometimes.

Matt: I think the biggest spoiler of all of this isThe burning of the corpses is a dead giveaway that Jon Snow and his allies WIN the battle! Why would Ramsey and Roose burn the dead and not just leave them for the crows

I like THIS so much more than thinking Ramsay won the battle. It absolutely makes more sense to me that Jon and Company burned those guys; and to make a point of burning someone on a Bolton X, it should be someone who really deserves to be burned on one of their own X’s, no? Tra la la la la, what a happy thought.

  28. Why kill Olly or Allister? Unless it’s a battle with some sort of siege and not just the clash of the two armys, like Stannis/Bolton army (and Ramsay and his 20 good men sneaking inside Jon’s camp :P)…

  29. Someone pls explain me why the Umbers would betray the Starks if they hiding Rickon all this time?

  30. Afeastfordances: Umber

I thought it’s still not confirmed that the Umbers with the Boltons? It’s not because we see a dead horse that they were fighting with the Boltons. They could have been fighting against them. The other picture shows sigils of house Karstark and Bolton, not Umbers.

  31. Nicole,

Could it be a sigil or a part of one? The Greyjoy sigil is kinda swirly like that.

EDIT: It doesn’t make sense to me for a Greyjoy to be there. I was just using that as an example of a swirly sigil.

  32. Sister Kisser:
    jentario,

That was my thought. Here’s hoping we’re wrong

EDIT:I guess Sue confirmed on the other thread we need not worry about Rickon… maybe Olly indeed.Maybe Alliser and Olly?

If I understood correctly, Rickon is not the burn victim; Sue neither confirmed or denied if he is the Stark that dies.
So Sansa, Rickon, Jon or maybe

    Benjen may be the one.
  33. grailking,

I would expect Benjen to die after he’s given Jon more information about his past. He cannot survive because Jon has to be the hero, together maybe with Dany or Tyrion.
But if Benjen has been filming, they were really good in keeping it a secret.

  34. Phil Necro:
Someone pls explain me why the Umbers would betray the Starks if they hiding Rickon all this time?

They may not be; Lyanna Mormonts letter to Stannis may be a hint of somewhere else.

  35. I certainly don’t think the remaining Starks are safe. I think at least two of them, who are not becoming trees, will die before the end. Which two is up for debate.

    I thought the spoiler was

that Ramsay would burn people on crosses.

    Did I miss something?

Found it. This is from the article.

Ramsay Bolton will be displaying at least two bodies upside down on X-crosses, burning during battle. They are known characters.

So that makes it obvious that

that Ramsay isn’t going to be one of the bodies. He’s not going to torch himself.
  36. Chilli: I thought it’s still not confirmed that the Umbers with the Boltons?

I certainly haven’t seen any confirmation the Umbers side with the Boltons.

As far as the wolves go, if that ends up being confirmed, even though book-readers know

Nymeria and her pack have been active in the Riverlands

there’s the little matter of what does Summer do? I don’t see him hanging out doing nothing while Bran learns from BR. I suggested, and I believe others did, too, maybe he’ll “escort” Meera and Hodor back to the Wall. Or, perhaps, Bran sends Summer south and the wolves, again, if it pans out, are connected to Summer (and if we have Rickon back, that also means Shaggydog). What if Summer and Shaggydog lead a pack of wolves in the northern battle? I’m just thinking (typing) out loud here, but I don’t think what I’m suggesting is completely out of the question.

  37. jentario,

I thought it looked small, too, until I looked at the right leg, and where the foot ends. I think the other leg just looks smaller due to the perspective. The leg closest to the camera seems way too long to be a child’s.

  38. Maybe Benjen returns in time to take control of what is left of the Night’s Watch (IF there is anyone left), when Jon marches South with his Wildling army. They need a new Lord Commander unless Thorne is going to be in charge until the White Walkers break through the Wall.

  39. Benjen is totally an undiscovered Muad’Dib and the walkers are actually Fremen. He and his weirding ways will take over Westeros and then his son, who will become a Jabba the Hut like worm, will rule for 4000 years before he becomes too boring to survive.

  40. There is a whole bunch of filming going on in the next couple of weeks so I’m really hoping that more casting tidbits leak out!

  41. SlayerNina:
Why kill Olly or Allister? Unless it’s a battle with some sort of siege and not just the clash of the two armys, like Stannis/Bolton army (and Ramsay and his 20 good men sneaking inside Jon’s camp :P)…

Why kill Olly? Really? Or Allister? Even a larger REALLY? You can’t think of any reason? *falls face forward to the ground*

  42. Can’t be Brienne, as she has to defeat the most feared fighters in the land…Oh wait she’s done that already.

  43. JCDavis,

Yes, because we know the Bolton’s have great reason to burn them. Oh wait, they don’t. We know that it is Ramsay who is burning the bodies, so why would he kill Ollie and Allister, what could he hope to achieve from that? it’s not like Jon will give a dam. I think it’s likely to be Rickon since he is the last male stark heir who isn’t a tree boy.

  44. Hogwort,

Thank you Hogwart. Your commitment is appreciated.

I’m finding those picture’s quite upsetting even though I know they’re all dummies.
Amazing how they’re made to look so real when it’s all put together.

  45. Nymeria Warrior Queen: I suggested, and I believe others did, too, maybe he’ll “escort” Meera and Hodor back to the Wall.

Yes, I remember those discussions. That’s what I thought, too. Someone said it would be impossible for Meera, Hodor and Summer to make it back, but it was pointed out that Meera made it up there with Bran and Jojen: she and Summer handled defense and hunting, Hodor handled the heavy lifting. Bran and Jojen didn’t handle any of that stuff. Then it was said that maybe they would be helped by the Children of the Forest along the way and be guided somehow by Bran and the Bloodraven.

At least Bran will have a great purpose as a tree. It would make no sense for Meera, Hodor and Summer to waste away beneath the roots. They will find a way back.

  46. The King Who Cares,

Next LC after Jon will never be Thorne. He’ll be dead or on the run (away from the wall). That happens, I like the idea he’d run to the Boltons for protection, only to have the Boltons flay him, Olly and crew. Maybe burn them at the battle thinking that Jon cares about those NW.

  47. Thronetender,
Totally with you on this one TT, the only good Bolton is a dead one! I do have a bit of a soft spot for Walda though – when she first met Ramsay she had a lovely smile and a really nice sounding “hello”. If she has to go I hope it’s quick.

The more we hear about this scene the less I like the sound of it and I hate fight scenes at the best of times. I think it’s the upside down cross and burning (and possible flaying) combo. Me no likely 🙁 so consoling myself with the hope that House Bolton are roundly defeated. Or at the very least Wun Wun is involved and we see some serious stomping action 😀

EDIT: Hogwort Nice work, thanks for your efforts! Please tell me the figure on the cross doesn’t look really freaky up close up and is obviously a dummy. I know it’s pretend but I still don’t like it! 🙁

  48. Mmm Tom Wlaschiha…..he is allowed on my boat any day.

Yes, funny that no bigger leaks have come out, since a number of people are aware of what goes down.

  49. HotPinkLipstick: I certainly don’t think the remaining Starks are safe. I think at least two of them, who are not becoming trees, will die before the end. Which two is up for debate.

I don’t believe two Starks will die, I think only one.

Unfortunately, I think it’s going to be Arya. She takes too many risks and gets herself into too many horrible situations. I don’t think we’ve ever seen Arya truly injured, externally at least. Everyone else, except Rickon, has been hit or hurt many times. It’s going to be a great shock to see Arya actually hurt. I was mad at Jaqen for hitting her with a stick. Think how angry we will all be if/when Arya sustains a great injury, or gets herself killed.
  50. Thanks, Hogworts. Ninja of the year award is in the mail.
The person on the X, are they wearing a breast plate? If so, it doesn’t match Stannis, Thorne or Brienne’s. Tormund nor Davos wears one, ever.
It could just be the prop’s torso.

  51. Lulus Mum,

Yes, poor Walda. She seems so nice, yet she is saddled with being born a Frey and a Bolton by marriage. 🙁

Oh, and hello, lovely! *waving* 🙂

    Hogwort

Just echoing other people’s thanks. I don’t know how I missed your earlier posts, but thank you so much for getting these pictures and sharing them!!!

    Thronetender,

You have a clearer memory than I. I’d forgotten someone suggesting the CotF could help them. Thanks!

  52. It’s 1000000000000000% or more that the bodies not Olly and Alliser because that would be a joyful scene not a dramatic one.

  53. Invalidsloth:
    JCDavis,

Yes, because we know the Bolton’s have great reason to burn them. Oh wait, they don’t. Per Sue Rickon isn’t a burn victim!
Can’t believe 1 hr after she printed the statement people were saying Rickon,Rickon; now still days later even when others say it’s not Rickon people still say: Rickon is the burn victim.

Rickon is not on the X, but he may not live.

  54. PackBowl!

And I really don’t think it will be actual wolves, but stuff like Saarland Wolfdog, Czechoslovakian Wolfdog, Laika, Alaskan Malamute, or even wolf/coyote-hybrids.. which look like real wolves, and are sufficiently trainable in groups. Real wolves are almost completely untrainable as a pack..

  55. Chilli
I think you’re right about the wolves. If they are actually using real ones there are so many considerations and potential problems they would almost certainly greatly outweigh the advantage of having them where you want the filming to take place. The UK is very hot on health and safety issues and things like animal welfare, which should be at the top of the animals’ handlers’ priorities too. It’s not impossible they’d do it, but in my view very unlikely, even more so if it’s a number of animals rather than just one.

  56. Chilli: I would expect Benjen to die after he’s given Jon more information about his past

I would doubt that Ned told Benjen the truth. After all, why dishonor their sister’s memory? And why would Ned ask someone else to face dishonor by lying or dishonor by betraying one’s family? After all, those are Benjen’s two choices if given the truth.

Geralt of Rivia: Time for some Stark vengeance.

heh, except that it might well be the Wildlings, not the Starks!

Nymeria Warrior Queen: Or, perhaps, Bran sends Summer south and the wolves, again, if it pans out, are connected to Summer (and if we have Rickon back, that also means Shaggydog). What if Summer and Shaggydog lead a pack of wolves in the northern battle?

Bran cannot spend all of his time warging into Summer if he’s going to be a full time tree god. And he certainly could not use Summer to get Hodor & Meera to the Wall. Even if wolves could save them from the Wights (and that seems doubtful), then Summer alone could not save them Hodor & Meera from the other wolves.

Thronetender: It would make no sense for Meera, Hodor and Summer to waste away beneath the roots. They will find a way back.

It would make immense sense for them to do just that. Returning to the Wall would be a suicide mission.

  57. Hi Queenie *waving, as always* and Tormunds Woman too, haven’t chatted with you in a while. And not about to either I’m afraid, got disappear for an hour or so now. *waving goodbye* 😀

EDIT: Hogwort LA LA LA CAN’T HEAR YOU. EVERYTHING’S FINE, NOTHING SCARY TO SEE 😉

  58. Wimsey: Bran cannot spend all of his time warging into Summer if he’s going to be a full time tree god. And he certainly could not use Summer to get Hodor & Meera to the Wall. Even if wolves could save them from the Wights (and that seems doubtful), then Summer alone could not save them Hodor & Meera from the other wolves.

I didn’t say anything about Bran warging into Summer. Perhaps he does, at one point, or another, but he doesn’t need to warg Summer to send him south if Jon telling Ghost to get back to Castle Black (and Ghost doing so) is any indication.

As someone else already pointed out, Summer did just fine helping get the group to BR, so there’s no reason to think he couldn’t he couldn’t help Meera and Hodor get back to he Wall, and now that Thronetender jogged my memory, if the CotF are helping, too, I think it even more plausible. Moreover, if Summer did gather a wolfpack on his way south, well, we know Nymeria controls her wolfpack, so what’s to say Summer doesn’t do the same?

It’s kind of funny to see you, who likes to point out to people we can’t know what happens because TWOW hasn’t been released, speak with such certainty about what is and isn’t possible.

  59. I´ve always wondered about which houses, big and small, will be left when all is said and done…In the past, many were wiped out of existence…In the present time,House Baratheon is almost there and the story has hinted about the total destruction of House Frey…Perhaps this battle will be the obliteration of Houses Bolton,KarStark, Umber and Arryn? Any thoughts on this?

  60. Lulus Mum:
    Chilli

It’s very easy to mistake actual wolves for wolfdog-hybrids or dogs with a bit of wolf in them.. Lets not take one tweet as gospel, because the person isn’t likely an expert on wolves. What I’m expecting, if the account is true, is that she saw a good amount of wolflike dogs and thought: “those Stark-kids have wolves, these are wolves!” and hence not taking into account that they don’t necessarily have to be realworld wolves, but dogs that are wolflike..

  61. Alex G,

It’s tough, at least for me, to guess on the obliteration of houses.

In the books, each of the houses you mention has someone to carry on the name…The Arryn’s have Harry, the Karstarks have Alys (yes, a woman, but a Karstark), the Umbers, well, I don’t know how many Umbers are still out there running about somewhere, and with the Boltons, isn’t Walda pregnant in the books, too? Sure, I’d expect Ramsay to off Walda before the child is born, but as of now, there’s a potential Bolton heir. Even the Baratheons have Edric (Gendry on the show). Yes, bastard-born, but there’s a possibility of a legitimization in the future.

All that said, I’d love to see both the Freys and Boltons completely wiped out (sorry, Fat Walda! 🙁 )

  62. Ser Oromis Locke: It’s very easy to mistake actual wolves for wolfdog-hybrids or dogs with a bit of wolf in them.. Lets not take one tweet as gospel, because the person isn’t likely an expert on wolves. Sure, but let’s assume that they are wolf/dog hybrids, for the sake of argument. Well-trained wolf/dog hybrid actors don’t just grow on trees. They might use wolflike dogs (like the Inuit dog breed used for the Season 1 direwolves), but even those dogs were clearly distinguishable from wolves. It’s possible that this lady saw a pack of dogs and mistook them for wolves, but I dunno. A pack of huskies, a wolflike dog pretty easily procured and trained, would look like, well, a pack of huskies.

The one bona fide actor wolf pack that I know is located in Alberta (I think they were used for The Grey), and I don’t think they’d be able to fly 35 wolves to Belfast just to film these bits.

I’m pretty skeptical on that “spoiler” about the snow and the wolves for a number of reasons, and that was one of them.

  63. Alex G,

It is very arguable that the landscape will evolve in the end like it already has in Westerosi History. Houses Baratheon, Tyrell and Arryn are in a precarious position in terms of heredity. The Martells also in a way. The Lannisters have the surest position with all the cadet branches.

  64. M,

A few months ago there was a post here about using a canadian trainer of wolves and his animals to film Ghost and in that post it was mentioned, if I remember well, that there were plans to use this trainer and his animals for the next season. I do not see any problem using wolflike dogs to record the movements and then CGI them to look like real wolves. It is not impossible. I think the wolves have a role to play this season and we will see them in all their greatness. They way this will be achieved I am sure it will leave us all satisfied… So no worries on this front at least for me!

  66. An idea just came to mind. Just speculation, but I’m covering it as spoilers in case it comes true.

What if, because of Jon taking the wildlings to fight the Boltons, the Wall is vulnerable in the last episode, thus letting the White Walkers through?
Wouldn’t it be ironic if, because of Jon choosing family against duty, he let the biggest threat to humanity come to pass? Plus, it would prove that the critics who say that the TV-characters aren’t as complex as the books were wrong.
  67. Brienne will fight The Nights King in a 1-on-1 duel with Oathkeeper in the final season…it’s can’t be her that’s burned.

  68. Selina,

It is a bit of a sad thought, but I don’t think it will be a matter of them just saying, “Alright, Bran, have fun becoming one with a tree…we’re outta here.”

    Tywin of the Hill,

Interesting thought, but, although we don’t know how they’ll handle it in the show, we know in the books

The WW’s can’t pass through the Wall due to some kind of magic. We also know Coldhands couldn’t, so wights likely can’t, either. Yes, there were the wights who attacked Castle Black (Mormont and whoever else), but they were not animated when they were brought through the Wall, they were corpses. I’d doubt anyone will be bringing any corpses through the Wall.
  69. Nymeria Warrior Queen,

That magic’s gotta wear off eventually. It’s known.
EDIT: I think those corpses were animated, but “dormant”. I think the reason they could pass has something to do with the ancient “laws of hospitality”.
  70. Tywin of the Hill,

Well, according to Jon’s speech at Hardhome, the NW and the Widlings (what is left of them) cannot stop the WW and their army by themself. Would it make more sense to find more willing to fight this threat?

  71. I know sue denied it is rickon but my money is still on rickon.
On the other hand, lots of wolves? Get in! I am excited 🙂

  72. Tywin of the Hill,

Well, yeah, but I’d think something has to happen to make whatever it is no longer effective. I don’t think it’s just going to wear off…as though it has an expiration date.

All things seem to point to them definitely getting south of the Wall somehow, though. The “how” is actually one of the things I look most forward to learning.
  73. Agreed. History has many houses going extint. I think the Wildlings will fill the void like the Thanes are doing.

  74. I don’t know what it is about this site, but I can never see the Instagram pics that are posted. Twitter stuff shows up fine. This is the only site I have problems with.

  75. Piyush Sharma:
I know sue denied it is rickon but my money is still on rickon.
On the other hand, lots of wolves? Get in! I am excited

Is your bet he burns or that he will die?
Sue’s comment goes only for the burning portion.

  76. Tywin of the Hill: What do you mean?

In my opinion, because not having enough people to defend the wall, they need to go south and get more people to join the fight to defend Westeros against the WW army.

  77. Tywin of the Hill,

I think the season will end with a shot of the Night’s King and his army marching on the Wall, but I don’t think they’ll breach it just yet. The Wall coming down/being breached is endgame material.

My current guess is the battle with the Others will be two rounds. The first round will be the Night’s Watch, Wildlings, and Northmen trying to hold the Others back, but failing and forcing them (or what’s left of them) to flee south. The second round will basically be everyone vs. the Others in a final, desperate battle that will determine the fate of the Seven Kingdoms (and perhaps beyond).

I don’t think the North will fail to hold back the Others in the “traditional” sense though. It will probably be some failure to mobilize in time or take the threat seriously enough, similar to your idea. Perhaps Jon will fail to convince everyone that the Others are truly coming, or Littlefinger will try to use the impending chaos to his advantage.

Regardless, I think a Stark victory during Snowbowl will be short-lived. The Northmen will not succeed throwing the Others back, and all of the people who died in Stannis’s failed siege and Snowbowl will probably be added to the Night’s Kings army which will continue to grow massively in size the further south he goes.

So… yeah, that bittersweet ending might be far more bitter than sweet at this rate.

  78. It would be really strange especially for Meera to just sit around in a cave until the end. It does seem as if she should somehow get back and connect with other people in the story. But there is another way to get pass the Wall.
We know that there is an extensive cave system that has been used by the Wildlings before. If Bran can use the Weirwood network, then he could very likely guide Meera and perhaps Hodor through the caves to the other side of the Wall. The cave system might even extend to the Winterfell crypts.

    Nymeria Warrior Queen:

The WW’s can’t pass through the Wall due to some kind of magic. We also know Coldhands couldn’t, so wights likely can’t, either. Yes, there were the wights who attacked Castle Black (Mormont and whoever else), but they were not animated when they were brought through the Wall, they were corpses. I’d doubt anyone will be bringing any corpses through the Wall.
It is true that the Wall is protected by a spell. The spell seems to be the real protection against the White Walkers, not actually the 700ft wall in itself. And the Wall has to fall at some point.

They haven’t focused much on the Horn of Joranum, but as far as I can recall it was found?

I think the Wall and Winterfell might be connected since both was build by Brandon the Builder. I think Winterfell might also have a spell to protect it against the White Walkers. A lot of the most important people in the North will be at Winterfell, in the books most of the North is also in or around Winterfell. If the Wall does come down those within Winterfell might still be protected. Winterfell might end up being the only protected place against White Walkers.

Maybe this is a bit far fetched, but I can see a situation where the White Walkers breach the Wall and just move straight pass Winterfell or ignore Winterfell, and go directly South. They might know that Winterfell is protected, and thus they might just ignore it.
And it might have something to do with always having a Stark in Winterfell. The Wall has always had Starks, and Winterfell for the most part have always had Starks.
But when Jon decided to ride South there is no Starks at Winterfell and no Starks at the Wall.

  79. Robb Snow,

I already went on record saying I think the

Horn of Winter is the horn found at the Fist, and the one in sam’s possession…also that the Giants it wakes from the earth are the Kings of Winter down in the Winterfell crypts.

Who knows, though, you could be right.

In terms of the WW pushing south

I’ve always thought Dany’s vision of the Trident was her fighting the WW’s.
  80. HotPinkLipstick:
Benjen is totally an undiscovered Muad’Dib and the walkers are actually Fremen. He and his weirding ways will take over Westeros and then his son, who will become a Jabba the Hut like worm, will rule for 4000 years before he becomes too boring to survive.

    I love you?

  81. Boudica,

I really like some of your ideas, especially about

a Stark always needing to be in Winterfell. I’ve always thought there may be something more to that than just tradition. I also really like the thought of there being some connection (and I don’t necessarily mean by tunnels, just that there’s something which ties them together, whether literally or otherwise) between Winterfell and the Wall. There’s definitely something to those crypts, the Kings of Winter, and especially the lowers levels, about which we know nothing, other than they’re there.
  82. Phil Necro,
SHIT…the Boltons burned Mokujin from Tekken!!!

    I Lol’ed.

    Tyrion Pimpslap:
    jentario,

That cross is huge, easily 10-14 feet. No way that is a child dummy.

Hmm, I still think it’s on the small side for an adult. I’m leaning towards it being Robert Arryn, with the other corpse being Bronze Yohn. I have a feeling LF will secretly betray them to the Boltons somehow in order to consolidate his rule and inspire his Vale men to unite behind him. Sounds circuitous I know, but when has LF ever been straight forward?

  83. Bill:
Can’t be Brienne, as she has to defeat the most feared fighters in the land…Oh wait she’s done that already.

Not Areo Hotah. Or Victarion Greyjoy. Or maybe she will be the one to slay Night King.

  84. Nymeria Warrior Queen:

a Stark always needing to be in Winterfell.
I ve always wondered what the “waking giants” from the Nights Watch oath refers to. Waking the old Kings of Winter might be a good explanation. Yes, it certainly does seem as if there is something more that has to happen with the Winterfell crypts.
  85. Could that body on the cross really be the Mannis, though? Looks to me like it has a head…unless Brienne the Beauty didn’t really lop his purty melon off like we were led to believe.

  86. Tyrion Pimpslap: Well in Jaime’s dream, Brienne was fighting with a flaming sword…

Just thinking about this, it would actually be somewhat amusing if Azor Ahai turned out to be one of less important characters within ASOIAF, or not a main character.

Everyone is looking for signs and placing all of these clues together. It would be ironic if Azor Ahai was not a main character in this song.
And just like the one sided accounts and the often misrepresented retellings of history we have been mislead by focusing on the main leaders or kings in the story. In the end everyone would quickly forget about Azor Ahai or who the person really was, and we are only getting the story and deeds about the rulers and kings during the time.

  87. Chilli,

i cant imagine they’d use actual wolves, more likely Huskies or Malamutes which ive found to be much more docile, who knows though.

  88. Boudica,

The last thing I want in my life is to see Bran alone, I cried so much when

    Jojen died

. I need Hodor, Meera and Summer to stay with him. I feel that everyone can return South together.

  89. If Mel’s prophecy of the darkness that lays heavy on the world, especially with the “seas freezing”, is to be taken literally, it is possible that the Night’s King and his army will cross the Bay of Seals to enter Westeros. Basically he could freeze the seas and cross around the Wall. But this is pure tinfoil speculation.

There is a film that came out recently called “Wolf Totem”. They trained dogs that had to stand in as a pack of wolves for many of the film’s sequences, and did it quite well. So I am sure if done correctly, training Malamutes or similar dogs could work, especially if each dog’s scenes are filmed seprately.

  90. My first thought when looking at the pile of fake bodies was, “Oooh, look! They found another use for the wall of Persians from 300!”

  91. Ginger of House Snap:
    Chilli,

Maybe the person meant ‘wolves’ as in– Stark banners?

That’s what I’m thinking as well. There are laws requiring sometimes lengthy waiting periods for bringing animals in from other countries for any reason.

  92. Selina:
    Nymeria Warrior Queen,

The idea of Meera and Hodor leaving Bran makes me very sad. I do not like to imagine that they would leave his friend alone.

I actually find the idea of Meera (and Hodor & Summer) staying and dying so far North infinitely sadder than Bran being left alone. Bran had a destiny as a Tree God to fulfill and he will probably outlive his human companions by decades. Meera’s mission is complete so I don’t see why she should hang around much longer. She’s a young woman who should be allowed to go home and live out the rest of her life as she chooses. I know Summer would never leave Bran but my heart wants him to reunite with his wolfpack and go into battle with the remaining Starks.

  93. Nymeria Warrior Queen: In terms of the WW pushing south

And if she goes north, I believe, as I put on another thread yesterday, that this will happen to her:

…after she and her dragons kick some major ass and melt down some White Walkers, I believe she will be fatally injured and die in the north, beyond the Wall. I based this on her vision of seeing Khal Drogo and the baby in a tent beyond the wall. She and Drogo will be reunited in death. Bittersweet.
  94. Figuring out how the Wall comes down IN THE SHOW seems to be the only way to figure out how it happens at all – I’m not sure if the Wall falling is in the cards that even D&D would change a moment like that so dramatically. After all, those huge iconic moments (Ned’s beheading, Red Wedding, Joffrey’s murder, Jon Snow’s murder), those all basically happened in the way you expect. The surrounding circumstances might be altered (no Pink Letter, no Jeyne Westerling) but they seemed faithful to the act.

So if the Wall comes down, I have to imagine those seeds have been planted in the show. There was a broken horn found by Sam, but it’s odd that it’s never again been brought up. Maybe Sam reads up on it when he goes to Oldtown, but it would’ve been easy to have a throw away line, a scene of him looking at the horn, something. It’s just totally disappeared from the show. Now, will something that they’ve glossed over for 5 seasons bring down the Wall? Maybe. But it’s hard to see it right now.

I do wonder if Mel’s magic, the dragons, resurrecting Jon Snow, R’hllor all that is what unbalances the enchantments on the Wall?

  95. ron:
Ramsey will survive. That’s just what he does.

Or, as Sansa observed at Blackwater: “Joffrey will come back. All the terrible ones live.”

  96. Selina: I need Hodor, Meera and Summer to stay with him. I feel that everyone can return South together.

But Selina, it was my understanding from the way the Bloodraven talked (and I could be wrong, someone please correct me if I am) that he had been watching Bran all Bran’s life, observing Bran’s talents, calling Bran to him in order that Bran might soon take Bloodraven’s place. If this is so, Bran is never going back, he’s basically the “Weirnet god.” Bran will be busy observing the world; he will have the Children of the Forest as company.

Meera, on the other hand, is a strong, whole, beautiful young woman with family awaiting her, and a life ahead of her, should she be able to get back to them.

Wimsey says it’s a suicide mission if she tries to go back. Well, it was considered a suicide mission for them to attempt the trip in the first place, but they made it. She is known for her spirit and determination. She will want to attempt the trip. I think it would be even sadder for her to waste away underground for the rest of her days, without her father knowing what happened to his children. Imho, a way will be found, in the show at least, for her to get back.

  97. Nadia: It’s just totally disappeared from the show. Now, will something that they’ve glossed over for 5 seasons bring down the Wall? Maybe. But it’s hard to see it right now.

It might be fairly easy for them to bring it up again. We are already used to seeing Sam buried in books, coming up with answers that prove useful. His research even got a stamp of approval from Stannis.

He could be shown in an Oldtown library, books piled high around him, reading a passage from one old tome. He looks up from the book, getting excited about what it says. He goes to fetch the Horn from his chest, telling Gilly or whomever how he found it and that he just read that the item in his hand is something that can bring down the Wall. Easy enough for audience to follow.

  98. Selina: The last thing I want in my life is to see Bran alone, I cried so much when

    Jojen died

. I need Hodor, Meera and Summer to stay with him. I feel that everyone can return South together.

It would be great if they could all just return together at some point. But unfortunately I am not sure Bran will ever get back.

Bran at least has the Weirwood net, which is almost like watching TV, and he has the CoF. They might understand each other.

Meera is a living, fighting 16 year old girl. She really has nothing to do there. I think it would be great if Bran can use Summer to guide her and Hodor through the underground tunnels and perhaps back to Winterfell at least. She would also be able to explain to the be others what exactly Bran is doing, and what happened to Jojen.

Morna the Witch: If Mel’s prophecy of the darkness that lays heavy on the world, especially with the “seas freezing”, is to be taken literally, it is possible that the Night’s King and his army will cross the Bay of Seals to enter Westeros. Basically he could freeze the seas and cross around the Wall. But this is pure tinfoil speculation.

I do think there is a very good possibility that the White Walkers can just walk straight pass the Wall into Westeros once the seas are frozen. I think they might need the Horn of Joranum to break the spell of the Wall in order to be able to reanimate the corpses, on the other side of the Wall. So they might need the horn for their army of wights.

  99. Afeastfordances,

It makes sense though. Wildlings are hated and feared by all below the wall and have been for thousands of years. They are invaders, and Snow is a bastard. Makes lots of sense that that kind of fear would push all the Northern Lords into sticking with even the Boltons.
    Afeastfordances,

    Th

  100. OT as hell, but:

New Star Trek show is in the works for a January 2017 premiere. It’ll be on a streaming service, but it’s better than the nothing we’ve had on this front for a decade and counting1 I can’t be the only person here who cares… or maybe I can be, that’s OK!

  101. It’s been awhile since I re watched the show. Does Ramsay know it was Osha who helped Rickon and Bran escape? Maybe he wants to punish her and is she the one on the cross.
And Davos could be the other victim.

  102. Morna the Witch:
There is a film that came out recently called “Wolf Totem”. Theytrained dogs that had to stand in as a pack of wolves for many of the film’s sequences, and did it quite well. So I am sure if done correctly, training Malamutes or similar dogs could work, especially if each dog’s scenes are filmed seprately.

The wolves for Wolf Totem are from the same Calgary company as Ghost fron S5. They do send out packs abroad as the movie was shot in China iirc. The compamy has stated that GoT had tried to bring the company to NI, but scheduals were conflicting (iirc)..

  103. A poster on WiC says that chrisitanpost.com had a “ton” of pictures from the battle at Saintfield that were deleted. Does anyone know if this is true? And if it is true, are they just pictures that surfaced here first? I know there’s a guy on WiC who is making up spoilers like nobody’s business, so I’m sorry if this came from him (I can’t even tell) and I am spreading his rubbish, but I just wanted to find out if it was true.

  104. Name *,

Yea I also heard about the rumored spoilers and the deleted pictures of the battle. I don’t know either if he is legit or not, but I’ll just believe what comes from Watchers on the wall and nothing else until confirmed.

  105. If Ramsay burning two characters on X-crosses during the battle is a book thing, too, …

I guess it will be Mance and Stannis. Burning two “kings” who have worked against them at once will be a big symbol for the power of House Bolton. Furthermore, it would discourage Jon and his “army”, which will consist of Mance’s Free Folk and the remains of Stannis’ army that he left behind at the Wall (maybe including new sellswords from Braavos brought by Ser Justin Massey). Both Mance and Stannis are some kind of role models for Jon, so seeing them burn during the battle will affect him somehow.

In the books, Mance is already in the Bolton’s captivity and I think this will be the main motivation for the Wildlings to march against Winterfell with Jon. If the “Pink Letter” is legit, Stannis could have been defeated and captured by the Boltons, too. If not, I think this will happen at the very beginning of TWOW. Stannis’ story has to end at Winterfell somehow and I guess Brienne won’t make it to the North for his execution in the books. Nevertheless the outcome has to be same. So it is totally possible that Stannis becomes a prisoner of the Boltons only to be burned during the Battle of the Bastards.

The show has to take another route of course, …

as Mance is already dead and Stannis has probably lost his head, too. Maybe Tormund will take Mance’s role as the “Wildling leader” as he did before, but I can’t see who should stand in for Stannis. Maybe Brienne has not killed him after all and he gets left behind to be found by the Boltons or he joins Brienne and Podrik (+ Theon and Sansa?) only to be captured when they run into Ramsay’s 20 good men? This is not very likely of course and it would somehow suck to see Stannis survive his “execution” only to see him being tortured and burned by the Boltons, all the more as Brienne’s trip to the North would have been totally pointless in this case.

  106. Lord of Bones:
    Pigeon,

damn sometimes I wonder how many women are on this site, u guys are horny as hell lol

FYI….Pigeon = all woman. And a very nice one at that. Get in her boat at your own risk. 😉

  107. Alex G,

No I was referring to the possibilty of furthering the line, so Doran would be expandable from that perspective. Their weak point is Trystane possibly being Cersei’s hostage now (as Arianne is cut).

  108. iridium,

Your suggestion is both plausible and scary to me. I must say I would be even more shoked to see those two having been tortured by Ramsay than Tormund and Edd which shows character preferences can differ in a fandom. I really enjoyed Royce’s portrayal and Robin is still just a kid (he’s not Joffrey, has been raised by a crazy mother and has not been responsible for anyone’s death or torture). Anyway, it would possibly mirror Littlefinger plans in the Vale in the last books.

  109. M,

I COMPLETE WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE. No can replace Jason M but I think that there should be a host if castings who try to. Can’t wait. …Lucky old Dany

  110. Maggie:

Is this the same person who posted the season six “death list” some people talk about?
It’s hard to believe someone would know who and how dies in all episodes…

Yeah, I don’t believe those spoilers either. “Death list” spoiler guy and deleted pictures guy have names which are very similar but not the same, and deleted pictures guy sounds a bit like death list spoiler guy in other posts, so they might well be the same person.

  111. Invalidsloth:
    JCDavis,

Yes, because we know the Bolton’s have great reason to burn them. Oh wait, they don’t. We know that it is Ramsay who is burning the bodies, so why would he kill Ollie and Allister, what could he hope to achieve from that? it’s not like Jon will give a dam. I think it’s likely to be Rickon since he is the last male stark heir who isn’t a tree boy.

First, In Sue we Trust. She has said it isn’t Rickon on the X, so I don’t think it is. She is not known for trolling information.

I think Olly and Allister would be very satisfying for the viewer AND if the Nights Watch IS a part of this battle, I doubt that Ramsay would scruple to flaying and burning a child. Olly is good enough for me. Those are my thoughts on why NOT them…If you don’t agree, it is all good with me. They make 31 flavors of ice cream in the US. 😉

No point in saying “they got deleted…. put up or shut up comes to mind with the other guy.
I can 99% guarantee he did not have tons of photos taken from Saintfield.
It took me 3 weeks of watching how security work/how they change shifts/where they will be/what time workers arrived etc before I could hatch a plan to get onto the site. that was a LOT of sitting around in fields all night watching the routines.

No one and I mean NO ONE could have just pulled up and walked onto that set to take photos. I had 2 windows of opportunity to get in and out within 5 minutes.

So I take what this other guy says with a pinch of salt. the only place my pictures were published by me was here on WOTW.

  116. Theon and Sansa will be captured by Ramsey and held as hostages against jon snows forces and the greyjoys. Regardless of this the greyjoys and northerners will advance on Winterfell which will cause Ramsey to burn Sansa and Theon on crosses. This will enrage both greyjoys and northerners causing them to unite against the boltons. After the battle white walkers show up? Would make for an epic season finale.
