- Audio Commentaries – Twelve audio commentaries with cast and crew including David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Kit Harington, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Iain Glen, Maisie Williams, Natalie Dormer, Gwendoline Christie and more.
- Deleted Scenes – 4 deleted scenes
- A Day in the Life – Inside look at the production process of Season 5
- New Characters/New Locations – Explore the new societies, cultures and locations from Season 5
As is typical, the Blu-Ray version (see image above) will include everything in the DVD set and exclusive bonus content such as:
- Digital Copy – For the entire Season
- The Dance of Dragons – An in-depth look at the story behind the Targaryen civil war
- In-Episode Guide – Provides background information about on-screen characters, locations, and relevant histories
- Histories and Lore – Explore the mythology of Westeros and Essos from character perspectives in 14 history pieces with feature illustrations
Shame! Ding ding

Looking forward to the full list of History and Lore !
Out of all that, the Anatomy of Mother’s Mercy interests me the most !
Wished there was a full Anatomy of Hardhome !!!

It looks gorgeous. Probably the best so far. Although I still wish they were all the same color, the damage was done with season 3, lol.

The last three seasons, I’ve hated the poster art, but I always feel like they finally figure it out by the time they get to the dvd/bluray. The dragon shadow poster was terrible but the clear sleeve with the shadow printed on it over the white with the swords was very nice. I hated the background of the crow image in season 4, but on the black background, it looks much better. This year’s poster was very underwhelming to me but done in this gold color with the ornate frame and the way they did Daznak’s Pit on the inside is really quite pretty now.
Maybe they just need to give the dvd/bluray people the posters and have them make a better version before they release it to the public…

I haven’t bought any of the individual season sets and I’m not buying this one. I’m waiting for the show to be over because I know that they’re gonna release some insane, elaborate, (and super-expensive) series box set and that’s what I’m holding out for lol.

I’m quite curious about the deleted scenes. Four! Isn’t that a record for Game of Thrones? I wonder what they cut. Usually there’s one or two controversial deleted scenes, such as Loras in season two, which many argue should’ve been left in the final product. So maybe there’s some more of that.
I’m sure I’ll also enjoy “Anatomy of an Episode: Mother’s Mercy”.
Faceless Frey,
Exactly my thoughts! They always fix the cheap posters for the box sets.
angelique,
Because one of the episodes was named after it and Shireen told the story.

I’d be interested to know about “and more”. Maisie Williams, but not Sophie Turner? My hope is that they do commentaries, but not with each other. I’m interested in their perspective, but two teenagers on a commentary track is one too many.

Strange to see them go back to the sigil border design similar to Season 1. Looks great, though.
Surprised one of the bonus features isn’t about “Hardhome”. Still, looks like a lot of interesting stuff all the same. Can’t wait. 🙂
Yeah, love ’em both, but their commentary on Season 4 was not particularly enjoyable to me.

Sergei Walankov,
She may not have done a commentary this year, possibly as she was busy with X-Men around the time they seem to do commentaries (based on past tweets about it).
At a minimum, she said at the Emmys that she hasn’t watched the last five episodes, so if she is doing a commentary it’s for one of the first five.

One of the deleted scenes is the Sand Snakes introduction in episode 4. I really wonder what are the others and what weight it brings to the story/characters. I was always disappointed they didn’t include the Loras/Margaery and the Tywin/Pycelle dialogues although it still makes a nice bonus.
EDIT:Oh and I also think another deleted scene is the Tommen/Margaery cell dialogue we saw in the trailers. Which leaves two unknown scenes.

I have to say, I really love the color scheme of this box set. Fits really well with this season.

OK, let’s begin the speculation on Histories and Lore. My pics:
– Hizdahr zo Loraq: Slaver’s Bay

– Maester Aemon: The Targaryen Kings
– Doran Martell: The Conquest of Dorne
– Shireen Baratheon: The Dance of the Dragons
– Kevan Lannister: The Mad King and the War of the Ninepenny Kings
– High Sparrow: The Faith of the Seven and King Maegor
– Varys: The Free City of Volantis
– Ramsay Snow: The North and House Bolton
– Daario: The Free Companies
– Jaqen: The Faceless Men and the Free City of Braavos

Or perhaps it’s Bryan Cogman and David Nutter.

I’m curious about the Blu-Ray/DVD thing.
In my country, Blu-Ray never really took off. Sure, shops stock some Blu-Ray for the few but most people still go for the DVDs and the DVD selection is wider, it’s the default for buying TV shows/movies for home consumption. Like VHS used to be (showing my age here…)
Apparently the Blu-Ray will have some extras the DVDs won’t – an enticement for people to move to the Blu-Ray format? (device manufacturers and content producers colluding?)
I don’t care.
I’ve got all the previous seasons of GoT on DVD but I’ve never watched the extras on those either! 😀
A piece of work (book/show/movie) should stand on its own legs without the makers explaining themselves. I don’t mind fansites like WotW where we fans speculate together and maybe get snippets of gossip from the production but that’s all before the fact.

The art does look better. I always love the History and Lore, it’s a really nice way to fit some things you simply could not do on their limited 10 hours while still mantainig the connecton with the show. On the deleted scenes, I hope we have at least one scene that help us understand what the hell was going on in dorne, because I still think the main problem with it was lack of screentime and consequently a lack of character connection/empathy.
RandomSandQuote Reply
And God help us all.
John WQuote Reply
I’m a bit disappointed by the lack of Hardhome-related stuff. Such an amazing episode surely deserves some extras and bonus… a behind the scenes video at least.
Anyway, my own prediction about the History and Lore videos:
– Greyscale (Shirheen Baratheon)
– The Dance of Dragons (Shireen Baratheon)
– The Sons of The Harpy (Hizdahr)
– The Faceless Men (Jaqen H’gar)
– The Many Faced God (Jaqen H’gar)
– The Faith of The Seven (High Sparrow)
– The Great Sept of Baelor (High Sparrow)
– The Free City of Volantis (Varys)
– The Doom of Valyria (Jorah Mormont)
– The Fighting Pits (Jorah Mormont)
– Dorne (Doran Martell)
– The White Walkers (Samwell Tarly)
– The Red Priests (Melissandre)
– The Night’s Watch (Alliser Thorne)
Davos’ LuckQuote Reply
Completely agree. Lots of people complain about Dorne, and I think that the main issued is the fact that we see so little of it. You can introduce some new character and make him an interesting, cool and new fan favorite (see Oberyn in Season 4), but you must give him a backstory, an introduction to the audience and some kind of motivation besides the “revenge, blood, kill the girl” stuff. The lack of a proper introduction really hurt the Sand Snakes characters from the get go.
Davos’ LuckQuote Reply
So excited for deleted scenes!
Davos’ Luck,
Not to beat a very dead horse, but I think it partly had to do with how S5 was marketed. That is, over-hyping minor accessory characters. IMHO, the S5 Dorne arc makes the most sense in terms of “Jaimie’s story” rather than a “Dorne story.”

But I think doing it over Mother’s Mercy is much more interesting given that it was by far the show’s craziest episode with twists in every storyline- so from a writing standpoint it’s much better.
