John Varvatos teams up with Game of Thrones for exclusive new capsule collection!

JV x GOT 10

HBO is really rolling out the merch train this week- books, and games, and now fashion! Just announced and debuting in John Varvatos stores and online on March 14, 2019 is an exclusive new 11-piece capsule collection inspired by Game of Thrones.

John VarvatosThe collection debuts just ahead of the final season as an ode to “the iconic styling of the show’s costumes infused with the John Varvatos rebel spirit.” The capsule collection marks the first time John Varvatos has partnered with a television series for a clothing collection, and the brand is the only luxury fashion collaboration in official partnership with HBO for the final season of Game of Thrones. The collection features artisanal hand-dyed leather outerwear, cross-over Henley, pants, a textured messenger bag and graphic prints depicted on spray dyed tees. Notable details from the show pop up throughout the collection, included in  pieces that feature the Iron Throne motif printed on the inside of the jacket. Prices range from $2,698 (hand dyed leather jacket) to $98 (graphic t-shirt).

“From the very first episode, I have been inspired by the incredible costumes in Game of Thrones,” says Varvatos. “To have this opportunity to collaborate, is a dream come true.”

“As we prepare for the final season of Game of Thrones, we wanted to celebrate with an incredible collaboration for a clothing line inspired by the show.” said Jeff Peters, Vice President of Licensing and Retail at HBO. “John Varvatos has delivered a stunning collection of high-quality pieces that are fashionable and wearable, while also capturing the show’s essence through its details and ornate design. We couldn’t be happier with the final product and are excited to see how fans react.”

  1. I really, really wish Alexander McQueen was still alive. His take on GoT would have been spectacular, and actually worth the big bucks. Sorry, Varvatos, I wouldn’t drop three grand to look upscale bland.

  2. I’m too old for this skinny shit!! No, I’m not a fat bastard. I’m an athletic guy that’s played basketball, volleyball and all sorts of things all my life… but I’m also not a coked-out American Eagle guy. 😜

  3. You know what I’d pay $2,698 for? Well, nothing, because I’m poor. But I’d pay it if I had it, if Michelle Clapton herself put out a line. Which she wouldn’t. But that would be very cool if she did. And it wouldn’t be blatantly recognizable graphics. I don’t care if a t-shirt is arterial blood sprayed, $98 is silly. I fart in their general direction.

  4. Also, for a second there, I thought the model in the first pic was Michiel Huisman, and I was like, “Dude….”

  5. Pigeon,

A few years ago, I was shopping with my sister and she showed me tee shirts selling for $100+, because they had a skull on them and that was the “in” thing that year.

(*In voice of Oberyn*): “But that’s just a tee shirt“, I said.

A Targaryen logo tee shirt for $98? For that price, Emilia Clarke has to cook me dinner too.

That’s the thing – they look like every other GoT graphic tee that has already been done. Colour, sigil, words. I always admire nice clothing that are staples in peoples’ wardrobes for years – for example, my doctor always looks very put together in nicely tailored suits, but she has had them 20 years because they’re good quality and she takes care of them. T shirts are t shirts. Now, that linen jacket is quite nice, unique, and probably would last…but out of my price range for sure. 😜 And I’m not a dude.

    FETCHEZ LA VACHE!!!!

  7. I honestly really like my WotW T shirts. I wear them a lot (i have 2 each of two of the styles you used to sell). They are really very comfy fabric , they are black, and they aren’t as much in your face with a targ logo or something. And they weren’t nearly $98!!! What happened to the store btw? I couldn’t have been the only one that liked the WotW Gear. The t shirts are really comfy.

  8. Tron79,

I’ve been meaning to ask the same thing!!! I love my T (I practically live in it on the weekends). Comfy, fits perfectly, always a conversation starter.

  9. I had no idea what Varvatos or a “capsule collection” was…but, I’m a girl anyways…the jackets are nice, but then I saw the $98 tees. THE most basic-@$$ house-sigil cotton t-shirts that you could get at Hot Topic for like 20 bucks. Guys, it ain’t April Fool’s Day yet.

Plus, I much prefer my GoT tee (from HT) with actual characters on it. ^-^

  10. No way, no how. Do people actually pay $98 for a T-shirt? The rest of the clothes are that skinny look that looks just horrible on men….JMHO. How that is inspired from GoT, I have no idea.

    ——
    I know, right?

The least they could do is offer real GoT-inspired clothing – like a Night’s Watch Lord Commander’s cloak; a Jorah Mormont faded yellow shirt; a Maester Luwin (sp?) full-length robe; or Ser Bronn of the Blackwater faux doeskin gloves.

A Stark Winterfell Collection line of insulated fur-lined capes, parkas and jackets would be nice for cold winter nights.

But as you observed, “the clothes are that skinny look that looks just horrible on men….JMHO. How that is inspired from GoT, I have no idea.”

The show’s costume designers have come up with some really amazing clothes for the characters. I have to wonder why these licensees don’t look to them for inspiration.

From that picture of the dweeb model, it’s really hard to fathom how HBO’s VP of Licensing and Retail can describe these items as “a stunning collection of high-quality pieces that are fashionable and wearable, while also capturing the show’s essence through its details and ornate design”, let alone justify the exorbitant prices.

P.S. Slightly Off-Topic: Ever since the pre-Season 7 EW photographs of the Starks came out, I’ve been in the market for Arya’s boots as a birthday or holiday gift for my sister. She loved them.

  12. A bit unfortunate HBO closed their EU storefront before the final season starts…

  13. I feel a bit like Gilly. What’s a “capsule collection?”

I spent a fraction of the price for a designer-ish leather jacket from a Zoroastrian (our conversation was all over the place) who has a shop smack in the middle of convent garden (not exactly a cheap shopping area).
Most expensive clothing item I’ve ever purchased, but I love the jacket and I’m glad I supported him. Also, while I was there- billy idol’s guitar player came in and picked up the crazy leather shoes he had custom made- which was interesting.

But, like I said- my jacket was a fraction of the price. Like, on a pie graph (happy pi-day), my jacket (one slice) to this one above (whole pie) would be smaller than a piece I would eat.

You’re not missing anything. Unless you’re into drastically overpriced knickknacks.

My favorite memorabilia thus far? The UK Royal Mail Game of Thrones character stamps. (It’s mind-boggling that the U.S. Postal Service didn’t jointly issue the stamps with the UK. For example, USPS jointly issued Greta Garbo stamps with Sweden, and hockey stamps with Canada. You’d think GoT stamps would be a no-brainer.)

  15. Tyjon:
Where’s the “Sam & Sandor” Big and Tall collection? This is fashion discrimination

You have to add Hodor (and Wun Wun for the extra tall sizes)

  16. “the iconic styling of the show’s costumes infused with the John Varvatos rebel spirit.”
    let’s hear an expert:

“you’re a talker.” (Sandor Clegane, expert)

still, don’t worry about these slimebags. the “Walk of Atonement Nudist Resort” is yet to be brought to us by Club Med. there’s no bottom here.

Hahaha – WTF is a dweeb 🙂 Never heard that Americanism before?

    Ah – and $98 for a T-shirt! They must be f*cking joking 😛
