Game of Thrones Season 6, Episode 7 “The Broken Man” video roundup

This was an interesting week for fans of the books, with new characterizations, confirmation that Sandor lives in the showverse (but isn’t gravedigging), Wun-Wun down for some Bolton asskicking, Margaery passing notes, and Ian McShane returning to an HBO show and not saying his [in]famous Deadwood word that is probably unprintable here.

So what did our brave video friends think of the episode? Let’s ask Sandrine and Americ at HappyCool first this week:

Gay of Thrones

Ozzy Man

We are book nerd-less with the absence of John, but funny man Brett from Pop Trigger fills in with Matt and Cenk on What the Flick and let’s not lie to each other, most of us watch for Cenk anyway.

I’m not seeing episode 7 posted for Alt Shift X, so here’s episode 6

How trill was Ep 7? We check in with Dem Thrones

A review/recap from solo video man Smokescreen, there’s a prior video in a Q&A format too

Those are our vids for this week. I can’t leave without mentioning there’s a picture of Jason Momoa reacting to Sandor’s return out there that is great.

Just as the entire Greyjoy fleet and the Stark war lobby seemed to use the Littlefinger jetpack technology to flit around Planetos, this week felt like it propelled us into whatever action we will be seeing with the final episodes. Buckle up and have a great day!

  1. Only managed to watch WTF!?

I thought it was nice, would recomand to watch it….but I did miss Ben.

  2. I didn’t wait for this thread this week. Yesterday I watched Gay of Thrones, WTF and Ozzy Man. I thought they were all good, but Ben wasn’t on WTF and it showed to me…they rambled a bit more than usual.

I also tried to get Dem Thrones, but either they didn’t do one for this episode or are just late getting it up.

LOVE me some Ozzy Man!! Quick and to the point and always makes me laugh. As does Gay of Thrones.

  3. Not everyone watches for Cenk. Can only speak for myself but I find him the least insightful person on that panel every week.

  4. JCDavis,

Yeah, it’s a bit empty without Ben, I missed him more then I missed Cenk, to be honest.

He keeps them on track, is very passionate and he brings great ideas and ways to see the stories, as a unsullied.

I think this is the first episode without him, I started watching then in S5 so I might be wrong, but that’s how I remember it.
But now that he was gone, I truly appreciate him more..

  5. I couldn’t finish WTF. John’s absence left a big void lol.

Gay of Thrones was great, as was Ozzyman.

    Waiting for Alt Shift X.

    Meanwhile…

I loved their take on the siege of Riverrun.

  6. Sue the Fury:
    JCDavis,

Dem Thrones is linked in this post.

Don’t know how I missed that, thanks. I did watch it and I love those two guys. “They must have that O’Tommencare in Kings Landing, they all got skin conditions. “Nah, the deductible is too big”. LOL Phew they threw some shade at Sansa this week, for good reason.

  7. Flayed Potatoes,

Thanks for posting, love these nice little insights, after all looking at GoT as a visual medium is very different to scrutinising ASOIF as a literature medium which is often lost on book-centric critics who like to savage the show

I actually liked their take on how the Blacksmith and the Nail in particular relates to the Hound, eg we all thought it was a Gendry troll but it is a good look at the life of the Hound, from burned, to a hammered tool to where he is being tempered by Septon Meribald/Brorther Ray

For mine though, people slag this episode off but the tragedy if you like of what happened at the Quiet Isle of the show is that there is no rebuilding from the Wo5K, there is no escape from the winter that is to come

Which of course ties in with what Davos said to Lyanna Mormont

As for the numbers, would love if the Bear Island 62 do something really decisive which proves their value outside of their numbers, eg foil another Ramsay 20 good men incident or hold a vital position (dare I say Door) or something along those lines

  8. Ozzy’s many points never disappoint. Enjoyable as always…although he may be underestimating the wild fire burning in Cersei’s slow-blinking eyes. He’s right though…this episode did feel like AFfC.

  9. Flayed Potatoes,

So many Python bits could apply to so many GoT castle scenes. It’s hard sometimes not to break out in giggles during the intensity.

“Now go away, or I shall taunt you a second time!” 🙂

  10. I just realized from watching again that Lyanna Mormont is in the North’s battle camp before Sander writes the letter. There is a brief shot of her hanging out by the raven’s cage.

  11. Ozzy Man and Alt Shift X are the best reviews out there.

Too bad Alt Shift X always releases too damn late but I guess it’s the price for being the best GoT reviewer.

  12. Sam,

Alt Shift X is great, and I always look forward to his videos, but I wouldn’t say he’s a good reviewer. He isn’t much of a reviewer at all, actually. He’s a great recapper, going into what happened and contextualizing it with information from other episodes and the books. But the critical insight is almost non-existent, because that’s not the point of his videos, which is completely fine, of course! I just wouldn’t say he’s a “great reviewer” 😉

  13. Mihnea:
    JCDavis,

He keeps them on track, is very passionate and he brings great ideas and ways to see the stories, as a unsullied.

That’s what I like about Ben. Someone who doesn’t remember all the names (which I find entertaining since they play off on it) but still is enthusiastic and brings interesting discussion.

But to me, WTF? is at its best when it’s Ben, Matt, Cenk and John together, and this could also include the woman (I think she’s Laura? Sarah? I can’t remember).

  14. Honestly, I first came across Ozzy Man because he was linked on this site commentating the Season 5 trailer and at first I thought he was pointing out flaws and I was like wtf, but then I got used to his style and couldn’t ask for better.

  15. The quality of Collider’s reviews has been hit or miss this season, but I quite enjoyed their video this week. I think that the flow and substance of the conversation have improved since John Rocha took over moderating the panel.

Great stuff from Ozzy, and Dem Thrones as well. Dem Thrones has been the best new discovery of the season for me – their enthusiasm and humor are just fantastic. This week, listening IGN’s Dragons on the Wall left me in such a dark mood that I turned it off about 12 minutes in. Then, I switched over to Dem Thrones, and it washed all of that negativity away. I just had a big, happy smile on my face for half an hour as I listened to them banter back and forth about the show they love.

I enjoyed What the Flick this week, even without Ben there. Brett brought some good insights and a fresh perspective. I actually enjoyed his presence this week more than I’ve enjoyed John’s for most of the season, which was surprising. John’s been a strong contributor since the beginning, but I think he’s been slightly off his game this season. Perhaps it’s because, other than Matt, he had staked out his place as the panel’s one bookreader, and now that the show is past the books, he’s somewhat adrift. And while Cenk’s solo review of the episode was disappointing, his dynamic he brought to the full panel was as lively as ever.

Rogue Agent: That’s what I like about Ben. Someone who doesn’t remember all the names (which I find entertaining since they play off on it) but still is enthusiastic and brings interesting discussion.

Ana. Unfortunately, she hasn’t appeared on any reviews this season. I know that she’s very busy with TYT stuff, but I hope she’ll be able to join the panel at least once this season (assuming that she’s still keeping up with the show, of course).

  16. The Volantene whores were really interesting… Especially 3 of them.

Zoi Gorman is a Greek-Scottish model and playmate. Check her Playboy video on Vimeo, it will blow your mind…

Ella Hughes is a pornstar, confirming the inclination of GoT for that role, hehe… 😀

And Heidi Romanova (aka Vanessa, Adel C, Adel O, CurlyCandy18, etc.) is simply the Goddess of Love, Beauty and Pleasure… She’s a Latvian model (now resident in Italy), glamour model, erotic model, occasionally pornstar (lesbian, HJ, BJ, solo)… Seriously, she’s one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen! I think I’m in love… 😀

Google them and enjoy the view… You’re welcome. 😉

  17. Jared:
This week, listeningIGN’s Dragons on the Wall left me in such a dark mood that I turned it off about 12 minutes in.

    Damn, it was that bad?

  18. Ser Creighton Longbough,

Your astute research is impressive. I am hoping to travel to Volantis soon in my quest to find a Red Priestess with specific Meereenese Knot knowledge. My source tells me her name is Penny.

  19. Jared:
Ana. Unfortunately, she hasn’t appeared on any reviews this season. I know that she’s very busy with TYT stuff, but I hope she’ll be able to join the panel at least once this season (assuming that she’s still keeping up with the show, of course).

Thanks- yeah that’s her name. I miss her too and from what you’ve said, I suppose it makes sense why she’s not there. I hope she’s been keeping up.

  20. Last season What The Flick was my must watch video review, but this season I haven’t found them as insightful or interesting. More and more I find their conversations becoming boring and repetitive. I’m just not into hearing Cenk go on and on yet again about how Littlefinger is 28 moves ahead of everybody else. And Matt doesn’t seem that into it this season and I think Jared nailed the reason why upthread: Matt is an avid and knowledgable book reader and he seems out of his comfort zone now that the show is moving past the books. With both Matt and Ben out this week I watched only the first few minutes and had no interest in watching the whole thing.

My current favorites are Ozzyman, Smokescreen and Blind Wave.

  21. I have decided that Ben is the MVP of What the Flick. He’s smart, insightful, funny, but he also is good at challenging Cenk in almost every episode. Cenk without a check is pretty obnoxious imo. Maybe it’s because his politics have been annoying me recently but I can’t stand him at the moment.

  22. What major deaths do you think we’ll see in the final 3 episodes?

Sure we’ve had the Dornish massacre in the premiere and Roose and Hodor were the other big two. To a lesser extent, there has been the Khal slaughter, Night’s Watch traitors deaths, Osha, Balon, and Three Eyed Raven.

Looks like there will be a slaughter in KL on Sunday. Most of the Faith Militant at least.

Do you think we’ll see a Tier A death in the final 3?

Depends on what you consider to be Tier A.

If the leaks are correct… and I believe they are:

We will see at least 10 deaths of named characters in the final 3 episodes.
  24. Jack Bauer 24,

    If you consider Tier A:
    Sansa
    Jon
    Arya
    Bran
    Dany
    Cersei
    Jaime
    Tyrion

Then I don’t think any will die.
If any will, it could be Jaime/Cersei…
The rest have plot armor till end game IMO.

Same for me – Ozzy man and Alt Shift X are the best ones. I’ve been keeping an eye out on You-Tube for Alt Shift X’s review and found it this evening. Have just linked it to this thread. As always, it was well worth waiting for 😉
