Game of Thrones: The Exhibition opens in London

John Bradley

This year’s touring Game of Thrones: The Exhibition has begun, opening in London with John Bradley on hand as the doors opened. The exhibit will remain open from the 9th until February 12th and then February 15-17, ย before moving on to another city.

Bradley welcomed the visitors, posed with Thrones cosplayers on the Iron Throne, and offered his thoughts on season 5:

The quandary going into season five, if anything, is that we know what people like, we know what people expect, so we know that we are going to have to keep them interested in what they like but find ways of surprising them still.

I think people, after watching 40 hours of something, they start to know the formula a bit – or they start to think they know the formula a bit – so we have got to find new and exciting ways of both keeping it familiar and double-crossing them.

As in years past, fans are treated to displays of costumes and props from the show, as well as the interactive aspects like the “Ascend the Wall” VR experience. New items have been added to the exhibition, including pieces used in the forthcoming fifth season such as the fighting gear of the deadly Sand Snakes.

  1. omg some of those costumes are amazing! The weird box thing with the snake in it they show in the trailer. Cersei opens it as she’s talking about Tyrion being loose in the world.

  2. Your event companions for this evening: a whip, a gilded hand, a snake in a box, and two daggers. Have fun!

  3. Brandon Stark’s Monster,

Yes, and a nice cosplay too. Love the crown ๐Ÿ™‚

I hope we’ll get more pics from the exhibition, it’s always a pleasure finding new details in the costumes and props, the art department should get more recognition, it always amazes me how much detail they add, details that are easy to overlook when watching the show.

  4. John is a lot thinner in person without all the padding they install in his costume.

Interesting that Jaime’s hand is in the Dornish display, could that portend him deciding to stay, I would with three beautiful, sensual and deadly snakes to have as company. I’d leave Cersei for any one of them, she is so shallow compared to the richness of Dornish culture.

The costumes are exquisite, kudos to the wardrobe department, I so want someone to make and sell facsimile’s of Jaime’s coat.

  5. God, this just proves yet again that the quality of production on this show is second to none. The props, costumes and sets are all magnificent.

  6. What does everyone think of that one lady in the group costume pick appearing to be dressed as Lady Stoneheart? Could it be someone else she’s dressed as? Thoughts?

  7. Chimeny,

I would like to demonstrate what happens when someone who is NOT D&D gets their hands on your other favorite book series. Behold the sneaky “we don’t want to lose the rights to it yet” so-called “pilot” that happened last night, at 1:30 am on FX

the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan becomes… whatever this is. Billy Zane this is not your fault, you’re a funny guy but…

I promise to complain 99% less about D&D and so should all of you… ๐Ÿ™‚

I don’t think that snake-in-a box has anything to do with her quote about Tyrion. I think the snake-in-a-box is a threat about Myrcella from the Sand Snakes. Crafty editing makes it seem as the two scenes are one. Standard preview stuff. You don’t think Brienne is really there when Jaime is guarding Tywin, do you?

  9. Patchy Face,

I couldn’t even get past the opening narration. Apparently whoever did this “pilot” didn’t contact the Jordan estate or Universal Pictures who owns the rights to the story. I suspect they’ll have the bejeebers sued out of them and that will be the end of that.

  10. I hope everyone at WotW will keep us up to date on when tickets go on sale for other cities! I am doing my best to stalk but nothing for Paris so far.. I’m sure they go in a minute!

  11. Patchy Face,
    Dame Pasty,

I don’t even think WoT would make a good TV show. RPG, hell’s yes. Horrid show. And people wonder why I worry GRRM is gonna die on me. Roald Dahl died on me in the 90s. Robert Jordan died on me in the 2000′.. *sigh*

  12. Lady Wolfsbane,

Thanks for showing that to all on here! Too many critics of GoT don’t realise that what they are getting currently from HBO and D&D is THE best adaptation of the books possible. Films and other TV networks would butcher the books beyond recognition.

And that pilot was proof of this. It was dreadful, I couldn’t finish it…

  13. London #GoTExhibit better be open after the 12th. I got me a ticket for the 17th and Sky Atlantic will be on my Arya-style sleepytime list if it doesn’t work…

  14. I know that probably means I’m a bitch, but people in cosplays make me want to gouge my eyes out.

  15. Holy crap at the Dornish props. That’s Indiana Jones’s worst nightmare, right there. (He’d might make an exception for Nymeria’s whip, though.)
