Game of Thrones: A Day in the Life airs on HBO Tonight

Screen Shot 2015-02-07 at 8.52.17 PM

Greetings fellow lunatic fringe Game of Thronesย fanatics!

This informational post is merely a reminder that a new special inside look at Game of Thrones is scheduled to air tonight on HBO at 7:30 p.m. EST.

The trailer for the special and some additional info are below the cut. Be sure to check back in at WatchersontheWall.com as we will post video of the special as soon as it becomes available and discuss the content which will include more unseen footage of Season 5.

The special is scheduled to include scenes from the Water Gardens of Dorne, a location Oberyn mentions to Cersei in Season 4 as a place that Myrcella enjoys.

Also, we’ll see the High Sparrow, a new character portrayed by Jonathan Pryce, and a new fishing village beyond the Wall.

  1. Can’t wait to see it! I’ll have to wait untill Monday night though (different time-zone and an exam). I hope it will be worth the wait ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. So excited! I just hope they’ll show some filming of the battle scene with Stannis, since he recorded that video of House Baratheon, maybe he also gave an interview for this!

btw here are the deleted scenes from season 4 in case you guys didn’t watched them yet

  3. Aside from everything else (seeing Pryce act as the High Sparrow, Hardhome and the Water Gardens), I hope we get glimpses of the “big unknowns” of the season, especially on the latter half of it โ€”Sam & Gilly (& Aemon?), Stannis & Davos and, of course, Sansa. Anything that could clue us in about what their journey will be.

  4. So excited for this! Yes I agree it would be great if we could get some actually meaty info regarding Stannis and Sansa storylines where things are ambiguous and less has been released so far. We kind of already know a lot about Cersei and Dorne so it would be good to show some additional stuff. I bet they will use this to introduce High Sparrow and the Faith for the unsullied. Would love to see some detail on the Spanish interiors and the Dornish costumes too ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Can’t wait till the video is available here. I hope it gives some glimpses to puzzle all the storylines together ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Looking forward to the behind-the-scenes stuff and the dissection and speculation to follow. See y’all later! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. I hope the first scene of season 5 is the Maggy the Frog flashback. That would be a really bold and interesting way to start the season – Similar to how season 4 began with the melting down of Ice. It would also put the spot-light on Cersei which is fitting for her big arc this season.

    wizardeyes,

    Truth.

  9. wizardeyes,

That’s pretty much confirmed already. We know the Maggy flashback will happen. We also know the season will start with a flahsback. It’s a safe bet they’re one and the same.

  10. hola:
    Luka Nieto,
And Brienne. Just want to know how will they go around the LS thing and if the

    Sansa Stoneheart

    theory/freak out is warranted.

    Surely she should be called

    Lady Lemonheart

    instead.

  11. I’m sure the special will be great but it’s unfortunate to note that they seem to only be focusing on 3 storylines we already know quite a bit about (Hardhome-equivalent, Cersei in King’s Landing and Dorne). It’s probably by design since I suspect focusing on the other storylines (Sansa, Brienne, Winterfell, Stannis/Wall, Arya etc) would give away important details or hints about characters there they don’t want us to know.

Jaime in Dorne is one of the worst kept secrets out there so I wonder if they don’t bother with the suberfuge in this special and just reveal that this is where he’s showing up. It will probably be tough to have any behind-the-scenes shots there without NCW being front and centre.

  12. Luka Nieto,

Yeah, I don’t really either although I guess you could say he was kind of indistinguishable in the trailer in his Dorne-duds and there wasn’t necessarily a clear shot of him interacting with the new characters. Regardless, I doubt they bother with any further secrecy in this special.

  13. King Tommen,

Judging from trailer for the special and other promotional material, they’re going to at least touch on Daenerys and the Meereen storyline as well – specifically the filming that they did at Plaza de Toros in Osuna. But yeah, I’m not expecting to see much, if anything, of Sansa, Brienne, Stannis, Winterfell, Arya etc. There’s only so much that they can fit into a half-hour (or 26 minutes, if HBO’s schedule is to be believed). Dorne, Meereen, King’s Landing, and Beyond the Wall should be the only four storylines that they’ll cover.

  14. The next time I hear from an actual Unsullied fan who reads these comments and complains about being spoiled here will be the first.

We have plenty of people getting concerned on their behalf though which is certainly a constructive exercise.

  15. Do you think there is any chance that more short “Making Of” vids will hit You Tube or On Demand with the showing of this? Seems like HBO has released some extras about this time in the past.

  16. I am unsullied and have been spoiled numerous times by the comments on this site (Among them, Hardhome, Young Griff, Lady Stoneheart, John’s lineage, etc.). Using select words and acronyms don’t really help, especially when the next person (or previous) doesn’t use them.

  17. Can’t wait to see it! I’ll join you tomorrow, though, as I live across the not-so-narrow sea and 7pm EST is ass o’clock in the morning in this realm!

Argh, I’m going to miss all the fun when season 5 airs…

  18. Jared,

They might include Arya since her story line is supposed to be quite big, but I agree about the others. If we get something (although that seems to be highly unlikely) we’ll probably just get Sansa/LF standing on a rock, Brienne/Pod on another rock, Stannis & Jon or Roose & Psycho 2 having a staring contest.

  19. Dutch maester:
    Peteโ€ฆ,

If youโ€™re Unsullied, why read the comments section?Unless you want to be spoiledโ€ฆ

Oh, I don’t know, maybe he’d like to comment, or see the comments other people have. See, there’s this little feature on this site called “spoiler tags.” If I were Unsullied and I saw a site with a spoiler tags feature, I’d think that means it was safe to read the comments without being spoiled, at least as long as I kept the spoiler tags uncovered. Sure, every once-in-a-while something spoilery may slip through, but by and large, especially with as careful as those who write the articles are about noting whether there’s anything spoilery in the articles after the cut, the comments section should be “safe” for both Unsullied and Sullied, alike. I believe that’s why the spoiler tags exist.

  20. TheMannis:
A non-spoiled person should be able to read this section without being spoiledโ€ฆno excuses.

Especially when it comes to articles by Oz, who, as everyone who frequents this site, or used to frequent the old site, should know by now is Unsullied, himself.
I’d think, even more so than other articles (and, while I’m sure I’ve slipped up, it hasn’t been through just deciding not to be bothered by spoiler tags, it’s been a genuine oversight), folks would be particularly vigilant to cover their spoilers when commenting on one of Oz’s articles.

  21. I really hope this will ONLY be filled with behind the scenes footage (which is more exciting than a trailer for me) last year’s foreshadowing video showed wayyyy too much.

Also two trailers is more than enough. But I bet they will show the whole season with 6 trailers like last year, pfffft. I will not watch them anyway.

Breaking Bad didn’t have a single trailer for 5B and it was still a huge success.

  22. The Hound,

This video’s focus is very much a behind the scenes look on the show, unlike the “Foreshadowing” video, so we are bound to see way more documentary-style footage than actual new scenes. However, in the 25 or 30 minutes there’s gotta be glimpses of actual scenes.

  23. As others have said on my behalf, I like reading what other people have to say.

Now, in all fairness, I do like to be spoiled when it comes to something like casting. “They cast Theon’s uncle(s)” or “Kevan’s back”, stuff like that. Many people in the comments have spotted these kind of things before the site does.

But when the site says something like “Set photos! Major spoilers!”, I avoid those articles. This isn’t one of those.

  24. I hope this will be posted online later tonight. I have to work until 8:00 so I’m just barely going to miss it ๐Ÿ™

  25. I think last year Ice and Fire: A Foreshadowing came online very, very quickly, so I’m hoping for the same.

  26. Sue the Fury,

Let’s hope you’re right. For me it may be tomorrow anyway, I think. At best it’ll be uploaded at 8PM EST, right? And that’s 2AM for me… Damn you, Atlantic Ocean. Damn you and your vastness.

  27. I hope to update Game of Thrones Wiki’s articles on Production topics. They are painfully threadbare, we only know what we find out in these videos.

What’s all this about a “lunatic fringe”?

  28. Luka Nieto:

Which is why my location, New York City, is the shining center of human civilization. Tomorrow I’m going to class in the city near Bryant Park….I *walk by* the HBO store on my way to class.

  29. In this featurette and in the next trailer(s) I want more Stannis and House Bolton! As great as the first trailer is, I couldn’t help but notice their absence.

And a side note, I think this airs on SkyAtlantic on Monday or Tuesday over here, right? 9PM GMT?

  30. Chimeny,
It’s Tuesday at 9pm, extra day’s wait compared to usually getting GoT stuff the day after the States ๐Ÿ™‚ for it being on ๐Ÿ™ for the extra wait. I know it’ll be all over the internet very soon after the first showing but I’m waiting to see it on a large HD TV screen and hoping the S5 trailer is on too as I’ve only seen it on You Tube so far and it’s just not the same.

  31. Lulu’s Mum,

Ah, I see. Thanks for letting me know. ๐Ÿ™‚
Yeah it’s a little bit strange how we are two days behind the US when we’re usually just one… oh well, as you say it may be uploaded online later tonight or tomorrow sometime. I will just watch it online and then re-watch it on my larger TV. Haha!

  32. Luka Nieto,
The fact that I’m waiting til Tuesday won’t, of course, stop me from reading all the comments on here from people who’ve already seen it. Something as lavish and action packed as GoT really needs to be seen on the best screen/resolution possible to really enjoy it I think, never mind it being much easier to spot the sort of things us “lunatic fringers” look for. It’s different with things that are not that impressive to look at but I never cease to be amazed by people who watch films on tiny phone screens. Probably my age…in my day it was all different you know, the Targs were in charge and Robert’s rebellion was just a twinkle in someone’s eye etc ๐Ÿ˜‰ Mmm I can’t turn the autocorrect off and it just changed “Targs” to “tarts”!

P.S. House Ray I like your hat ๐Ÿ™‚

  33. Off topic but may be of interest: I finished the Game of Thrones fanvid I’ve been wanting to make for poor Ser Jorah. It’s set to one of my favorite Crowded House songs from the 80s.

    Jorah Mormont “Into Temptation”

  34. Lulu’s Mum,

Someone mentioned earlier (maybe you) autocorrect was changing “Roose” to “Rose” or “Rose’.” Now, we have the “Targs” as “tarts.” I’m seeing a funny list being compiled sometime in the future.

  35. Bishop,

    Good vid, well made.

Jorah is my favorite character from the Daenerys storyline bar none, forget Drogo or Greyworm and forget Dany herself, it’s Jorah for me. His banishment was a crime I say!

  36. Lulu’s Mum,
    Nymeria Warrior Queen,

All hail His Grace, Hot Pie of House Tart, First of His Name, King of the Andals and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Gravy. The ancient words of his House read: “You Cannot Give Up On The Gravy.” Yet, the more popular phrase is: “No gravy, no pie.” We all know that this is how the story will end.

Maybe King Hot Pie I wasn’t ever wise in the ways of war โ€”“If they got armor on, it’s a battle”โ€”, but he was a more modern leader, who cared for the needy โ€”he fed his people, you can say that much.

Though maybe he fed himself first.

  37. Nymeria Warrior Queen,
Yeah that was me too. Out of work hours I’m currently having to use a pain in the ass cheapo tablet which has no navigation keys either, so I end up with all kinds of rubbish that takes aaages to correct. I can just imagine the advert for Rosรฉ Bolton using that promo picture with them all lined up to recieve someone. [Voice over] Expecting some important guests? Show them great hospitality with Rosรฉ Bolton! Just don’t let them see the ingredients label ๐Ÿ™

  38. Chimeny,

And Jorah never got his kiss either…

(and I’m not talking about the peck on the cheek he got in S1 before Dany gave birth)

  39. Don’t expect to see too much. after all the special is titled “A Day in the Life”, and apparently just covers a single’s day filming at several locations. Probably will showcase interviews, on set action, discussions with the different production departments. What I’m looking forward to are the interviews with Ms Hughes, Henwick and Sellers.

  40. The Dragon Demands,

Hate to burst your bubble but London is by far the greatest city on earth, been too both metros, spent weeks in each and LONDON>new york. More history, more to see, more homogeneous, better restaurants and the denizens are far friendly, oh and NY is filthier, both on the ground and in the air compared to tidy and clean London.
When it comes to America, Seattle is heads above ny, more to do, especially within an hours drive, clean, the air is purer, ethnically diverse food, Pike’s Place, Ivar’s, the people are far friendlier and I could go on and on.

  41. Luka Nieto,
Gonna need a lot of armour if they’re as generously proportioned as he is. Although if everyone’s full of yummy pie they won’t have the energy to fight. That could be the answer to all conflicts, give everyone involved (on all sides) loads of lovely, but very filling, food. Then watch them all have a massive post-meal slump and maybe a nice nap. Everyone’s happy, problem solved. I should offer my services to the United Nations ๐Ÿ˜‰

  42. tyjon,

Given the choice between NYC and London, I’d choose London almost every time. However, I absolutely disagree the restaurants in London are better than those in New York.

Now, if London restaurants started offering Rose’ Bolton, I may have to reassess my opinion. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  43. tyjon,

I concur. I’ve been to London and NYC quite a few times and London is my favorite. Although the NYC skyline is amazing.

  44. People are much nicer in London though.
A lot of parisians are rude and snobby.

London is the best for nightclubs!

  45. So, it starts now, doesn’t it?

I would never admit to watching a livestream. I’m not doing that. That’d be ridiculous. But I do have a little bird telling me everything about it in real time.

  46. Hardhome confirmed by name, if there was any doubt.

Illyrio as well. Though not sure if it was just the manse (which we knew) or the character as well. Missed the exact context.

The line producer in Spain speaks Spanish very well. Good choice ๐Ÿ˜›

  47. TheMannis,

It’s not shot in order… and anyway, they were discussing preparations.

There’s A LOT of background concept art in one of the interviews that will be worth looking at in a good quality, frame by frame. It’s bound to reveal some things.

  48. The High Sparrow is in episode 3, in a scene feeding the poor behind the Great Sept. Cersei approaches to talk to him. Meryn stands there “butch and macho.”

    Ian Beattie is hilarious.

  49. Watching it now, pretty interesting…. but I would have preferred to see another special like last years with lots of footage from the new season.

  50. Dany politics, with a lot of unsubtitled Valyrian I didn’t understand.

    And now Daznak’s Pit.

    A few new Hardhome shots.

A bit underwhelming, but I didn’t expect it to be as spoilery as the Foreshadowing video. It’s a behind the scenes video after all.

  51. The Hound,

Parisian’s are a tad rude at first, especially if you are American, but once you open up, show your real self and chat it up with them, they become quite friendly and amiable.
Though Paris is full of thieves and pick pockets, nigh a problem in London for weeks, but the very first day in Paris and two girls in our party had either their purse snatched or robbed at an atm, both perps were 12 and 13 year old girls.
BTW, could anyone get closer than 50 feet to the Mona Lisa, the room was packed like Sardines when I was there, going to the top of the Eiffel Tower was alone worth the trip, both day and night. I loved Montmartre more than the Louvre and Napoleon’s tomb unexpectedly was jaw dropping when I visited it, couldn’t believe a tomb worthy of a god was built in this modern age (well 19th century) for someone.

  52. Wow…How fun was that?

Great line: “We’ll go from the amazing Daznak’s right into the amazing Hardhome.”

  53. Apparently a really, really big scene was shot on the Hardhome set over 3 weeks… Wow.
I thought it would end up being some sort of Crasters Keep bullshit but it now looks like we could be seeing ‘dead things in the water’.

  54. RandomGoTfan:
    Did they just confirmed Hardhome?

Yep, they sure did, and referred to it as one of the most ambitious scenes they’re shooting (that was my own paraphrasing…perhaps someone else can remember the exact wording).

    Luka Nieto:

    Ian Beattie is hilarious.

He really is! It’s nice to see, too, since I abhor his Trant soooooooooooo much.

  55. All I know is that it’ll be pretty kick ass if Jon encounters

The Nights King…at Hardhome…receives the Pink a Letter back at Castle Black and is stabbed!
  56. Hardhome! The beautiful Water Gardens! Dany and Barristan! The High Sparrow and Cersei! The Pit! Need to watch again.
I am seriously stoked for Hardhome now!!

  57. tyjon:

Seattle’s nice, I’ve been once, seafood was great.

  58. JamesL,

You know it’s nearly GOT season when JamesL expresses his passive aggressive disappointment about something related to the show.

  59. Rygar,

I’d meant to respond to your Albert Hall line, but I kept getting sidetracked.
    So, don’t lose all hope…

    Yet.

  60. The Hound,

People keep making jokes but I thought he was awesome throughout season 4, especially during his trial in episode 1, during the whole of the battle in episode 9 and in his chat with Stannis and Tormund and Ygritte’s funeral in episode 10. He was ‘okay’ in season 1, underwhelming in seasons 2 and 3, and he surprised me a lot in Season 4. I think he found his groove. Hope it continues this season.

  61. I’m glad I have HBO GO. Right around 4:30 PST the documentary posted and I clicked play. First thing I did after watching it, was go back to watch it again!

It’s really striking how logistically complex the production is. This gave me a better grasp for why we get 10 episodes per season, instead of, say, 13.

I’m glad they gave so many behind the scenes details with people like Chris Newman and Bernie Caulfield. They’ve got so much responsibility, and seem to be handling the pressure like few people could.

  62. So Hardhome in episode 7 or 8? I was expecting it to be on episode 10! So there still is space for Pink Latter!
And 166 people cast! I wonder who all of them are?

  63. clk,

Yeah, we knew about it already, actually: it’s gonna be episode 8. Indeed, there is plenty of time for Jon’s storyline this season to have a proper ending back at the Wall.

  64. Tyrion Pimpslap,

Not sure what was “passive aggressive” about my comment. I’m a huge fan of the show and am usually one of the people defending the show against it’s critics on here so I’m not really sure what any of your comment is about.

  65. Great special, saw a few snippets of scenes, my fav being one in kings landing. Was really happy to hear hard home and Illyrio name dropped by producers

  66. The Dragon Demands,

Is that what that picture is? I was wondering about that one. When the camera moves a little you can kind of make out the text at the bottom of that picture and I think the “title” started with an “S.” It looked (at least to my eyes) like “Game of Thrones: S…….” which makes sense
