Game of Thrones season 6 teaser leaks early

Ned

We were expecting a glimpse of something new from HBO and Game of Thrones tonight just before the premiere of Vinyl, but it looks like the new season 6 teaser has already leaked.

The teaser focuses on the House of Black and White and the voices of the dead who have come before on Game of Thrones. Jon Snow, Ned, Catelyn, Robb, and Joffrey appear in the Hall of Faces along with other familiar characters.

Now updated with the official HBO copy of the teaser!

Well that is certainly a tease! Not the season 6 material we were hoping for, but it is intriguing.

Now how about some new footage, HBO?

  1. That sucked…there’s thousands of fake “trailers” on YouTube that use old footage and dialogue…reminds me of those.

  2. this would have been cute as a tease like, two weeks ago?
but now we’re just so parched for the trailer, the teasing feels more like taunting lol

  3. Poor. Past voiceovers and even music from a past season is more review than teaser. I suppose technically it’s a “teaser” though. I don’t anticipate a social media reaction tonight that HBO is hoping for.

  4. No no no no NO. That can’t be….that CAN’T be it!!! There has to be more than that tonight. It’s the middle of february. I know the season starts a few weeks late. But we always have at least one full trailer, before now

  5. Fortunately I had very little expectations for this “tease”, I figured it could be something like this. Well, now we go back to waiting blindly for the actual trailer.

  6. Still better than The Sight stuff from last year, but only barely.

I suppose now we’ll get a resurgence of all the fringe theories about Ned being a Faceless Man when he was executed so he’s actually, really still alive, but now with added Robb and Catelyn as Faceless Men too.

  7. Fine teaser, but is the HBO team marketing trying to boycott Vinyl? People will be disappointed and I’m not sure it will have the desired effect.

  8. I really liked it! To me the last mask (face) looked like Tyrion. It couldn’t be. Who was it really?

  9. Is it only me, i think that the last face is Tyrion? And as far as i know, he is very much alive…

  10. This would’ve been amazing two months ago. By mid-February I think it’s fair to expect some actual season six footage to tease us about what’s to come, instead of a thematic review of the past seasons. I don’t think this can even be considered a “tease”, because it doesn’t tease us about the coming season at all!

Even the previous tease with Bran and the raven and the banner teasers had new lines from season six, even if there wasn’t any new footage! It’s so weird to take us a step backwards now, when one would expect a full trailer instead, or at least a proper teaser trailer. Just puzzling.

  11. Oooh, I liked that. 🙂 Was that Tyrion, the last one? Interesting that they’re putting him and Jon down there with all the dead but of course it might be only to tease us. 🙂

  12. jennyofoldstones,

It was Tyrion, there was also Dany, and I believe Arya when it pulled back to the full shot. I think that was more to point out that “No one is safe!” than anything.

  13. i think it’s cool…
    Ned,Robb,Catelyn,Joffrey…..Jon
all dead…and then all the rest main characters “dead”
    Sansa,Tyrion,Dany,Jaime,Arya and Cersei….
    Everyone can be killed….
    Valar Morghulis
    Watch season 6…
HBO even wrote “warning” ..i don’t know why peope thought this would be a trailer.

  14. Stupid, stupid, stupid. This has dampened my hopes for Season 6 – clearly D&D have less respect for us than I thought even after last season – and convinced me not to tune in to Vinyl.

  15. jennyofoldstones,

Its supposed to be Tyrion. Also there are other faces like Cersei’s too see. But they are not gonna die. HBO won’t kill of Tyrion untill they have no choice (for example: GRRM let him die in the books and it’s important for the story that he dies).

  16. I think that this will be a very effective advertisement. It will remind people of what has happened on the show, and for those people who have been watching it, it will remind them why they have liked the show.

It obviously is an ad aimed at the viewers rather than at the fans: but, then, aren’t the viewers more important than the fans for the show’s health?

  17. DisappointedEdd: clearly D&D have less respect for us than I thought even after last season

Do you actually believe D&D are in charge of marketing? I mean… what are you even on about?

  18. That last shot was definitely Tyrion. I spotted Sansa and Arya’s faces too on the wall as the camera pulled out. Probably doesn’t mean anything beyond teasing but still…

  19. Massively disappointing. I am going to stamp my foot in the manner of a small petulant child and say they can sod off. I am officially giving up being bothered about a trailer. ’til tomorrow then!

  20. Are they serious? Maybe it’s not the leaked trailer at all? And the “real” trailer will come at 8:00 ET ?

  21. Ross Doherty,

Or, perhaps, we can interpret it as ‘what is dead may never die but rises again, harder and stronger’. Dead characters first, then alive characters, and Jon in between. That’s my take.

  22. Interesting, everyone before Snow is dead, and the last 6 faces after him are all alive. So are we supposed to assume that he is still “in between”?

  23. Wimsey: It obviously is an ad aimed at the viewers rather than at the fans: but, then, aren’t the viewers more important than the fans for the show’s health?

Casual fans liked to be teased about the future too. In fact, I think it’s fair to say a casual show watcher would be more excited by a flashy action trailer with popular music, as all GoT trailers are, instead of this artsy figurative review.

  24. Luka Nieto,

This is a common mistaken belief that just will not die! However, here it is for the umpteen thousandth time: HBO and every other network and/or studio invest a lot of money in marketing departments, made up of people who have nothing to do with the production of shows or films. Those are the people who made this: at best, B&W might have signed off on it, but it’s quite possible that they were not even that much in the loop.

  25. Still waiting for pictures of Quentyn Martell, Arianne or maybe (f)Aegon.
And Lady Stoneheart. Meribald. Hound. Ser Shadrich. Lothor Brune. Garlan Tyrell. Willas Tyrell. A more proper Lord Tyrell. And Danys bloodriders. Where the hell are they?

  26. It’s somewhat similar to the 17million views tease. Yes yes we get it everyone can die but it’s time for actual S06 footage. Come on HBO give us the trailer please.

  27. Luka Nieto,

Excited? Sure. However, will it be effective at reminding them that they like Game of Thrones? Also, sure!

Remember, HBO is also showing the old seasons on HBOGo, and through other outlets. It benefits them to advertise the whole series: and in a way, this did that quite well.

Of course, I, too, was hoping for the clips with Jon rising up from the dead, Daeny feeding Khal Whomevero to Drogon, and Sansa besting Ramsay with a Battle Axe. But, then, I still hope that this will be the XMas where Santa actually turns up! 😀

  28. Well I hope they have leaked this “…” (caughing) “teaser” themselves, just to read our comments, so they can see how much disappointed we are, so they will change their mind and show the full trailer online today.

  29. People,in the last shot it’s Sansa,Tyrion,Dany up/ Cersei,Arya,Jaime down….all the main alive characters..

  30. There are people who are still alive as of yet – Daenerys, Jorah, Tyrion, etc… all dead lol. Forshadowing like hell. Guess Euron will be with Faceless Men after all.

  31. Argh. I don’t even feel teased. Just reminded that the show exists and has had previous seasons. Which isn’t exactly something any of us have lost sight of…

If teaser trailers are the equivalent of getting a sexy photo with the note “See you Friday…” then this is the equivalent of getting an old family portrait with the same note. Like…okay…still looking forward to Friday, but also a little puzzled…

  32. Talbert Serry:
Still waiting for pictures of Quentyn Martell, Arianne or maybe (f)Aegon.
And Lady Stoneheart. Meribald. Hound. Ser Shadrich. Lothor Brune. Garlan Tyrell. Willas Tyrell. A more proper Lord Tyrell. And Danys bloodriders. Where the hell are they?

    Cut. Like they should be.

  33. this will probably have the opposite effect, who wants to predicted Vinyls Ratings ? XD

  34. I’m seriously starting to believe teasers are all we’ll get between now and the premiere. As a way to keep everyone in the dark, like Bran’s line from the first teaser.

  35. Morgoth: Meh. Much ado about nothing.

That’s the perfect reaction – my first reaction was ewwww that’s IT?!! Yet, were those the faces of all the Stark children, including Jon, in the effing House of B&W? What is HBO trying to say? That no one is who we think they are? Or that they will all die and become just another face awaiting animation from a stranger. I hated this. I liked the stupid banner teasers better than this. This isn’t teasing, this has a nastier edge than teasing. This is more of a mean-spirited torment. Bad mood now.

  36. Wimsey,

Why would the viewers of the show need to be reminded about what they liked about the show, and/or what has happened in the show? If I or anyone else is going to tune in at 8:59 P.M. to see a teaser for said show, wouldn’t that be done with the built in knowledge that I’m obviously a fan of the show? Otherwise I wouldn’t tune in to see the teaser. So again, why would the viewers of the show need to be reminded about what they liked about the show, and/or what has happened in the show? I don’t think this teaser hurts or helps. It does nothing really, except stall for more time.

  37. Well, this thing with everyone’s face, like they try to say that everyone will be dead once (valar morghulis), i hope they don’t plan

[ spoiler ] the same ending how in LOST [ / spoiler ]

  38. I don’t get it…I mean its like they went through a whole lot of trouble to let us know that no one is safe….we know that already. Come on HBO, you can do better than this!

  39. I think you nailed it. Last year we received a trailer at the end of January and we were supposed to get it even earlier than that if the IMAX showings didn’t quickly sell out.

    Steven:
this would have been cute as a tease like, two weeks ago?
but now we’re just so parched for the trailer, the teasing feels more like taunting lol

  40. Tinfoil Link:
Interesting, everyone before Snow is dead, and the last 6 faces after him are all alive. So are we supposed to assume that he is still “in between”?

That’s what I took away from it … Jon Snow is the ‘bridge’ between those who have died before and those who are still alive. Though technically we know of one other who could be there too. 😉 I liked that at least they left it ambiguous on Jon Snow since everyone shown after him is alive and so even though he was the last ‘dead’ to speak, he’s not completely dead yet.

  41. Does HBO use a single schizophrenic marketing team for GoT, or are there multiple teams that just don’t communicate in the slightest with one another? The original teaser at least contained new voice overs from Blood Raven and Bran. I feel cheated. This is a step back.

  42. aabe:
    Ross Doherty,

Dead characters first, then alive characters, and Jon in between. That’s my take.

    Tinfoil Link:
Interesting, everyone before Snow is dead, and the last 6 faces after him are all alive. So are we supposed to assume that he is still “in between”?

I don’t want to read too much into this tease, but I did have the same thought as you both. At the moment, Jon is in between life and death.

Hell, they even place him literally between Ygritte (definitely dead) and Stannis (some still believe he may be alive).

  43. Bruh ive never been so disappointed by hbo ?. But a teasers a teaser. Guess im not missing any minute of walking dead tonight

  44. I wasn’t expecting anything substantial tbh, they promised a ‘tease’ and that’s all it ended up being. Still as ominous and foreboding as ever.

  45. The show is dedicating an entire season to flashbacks from seasons 1-5. This is why they decided on 8 seasons. Season 6 will be a recap season and it will give George more time to finish TWOW.

  46. Is that Davos next to Joffrey?

And who is next to Jon and Ygritte?

I see Ned, Robb, Cat, Jon, Ygritte, Joffrey, Tyrion, Sansa, Jaime, Arya, Cersei….

  47. I am really surpised with most of the comments….do people don’t recognize the actors, or don’t know who the main characters left alive are?

  48. Very cool on its own terms; very underwhelming as an s6 teaser. I imagine it would be perfectly possible for someone to fake that, so it’s not inconceivable that it’s a bogus leak and the real is yet to come.

  49. They just won’t give up with the ‘Jon is really really dead, honest, we mean it’ trolling, will they?

Presumably this is a dream that Arya has, just prior to her deciding that she can never be No One (despite the fact that she was not present when any of those lines of dialogue were uttered). If so, it seems likely that, as Blind Beth, she will have overheard talk about the LC of the NW being assassinated. One more murdered family member pushes her over the edge.

That last Jon line about ‘The dead are coming’ could foreshadow other resurrections besides his own. Is there a Hound face in those niches? Don’t think I saw one. But LSH is still an option.

  50. I would be very disappointed if this is what we got (and it definitely looks legit). I mean it’s OK, but it is February now, so I would expect something to see/hear something new.

I thought the teaser we got in December was quite good, and that had some new dialogue. I think this new teaser should have been the December one, and vice versa.

It’s just a bit crap, and smacks of a ploy to get people to watch Vinyl (fair enough), but not being bothered to actually show something worthwhile (not so good).

I was going to stay up to watch it, but I don’t really see the point now. If I’m still awake I’ll check, but I’m glad my hopes have been dashed if this is the shit we’re getting.

Very disappointed. The full trailer better be here imminently, and be a good 2 minutes long. I’m not giving them any slack after this trash.

  51. this is kind of disappointing, but kind of knew it, the teaser for this teaser already inclined that they will only show the faces…

  52. This death-centered plot in each season is getting irritating .ASOIAF isnt just the death of familiar characters. It seems that producers care to keep the attention of the viewers only by deaths and not by good storytelling and writing.

  53. Tyrion Pimpslap:
The show is dedicating an entire season to flashbacks from seasons 1-5. This is why they decided on 8 seasons. Season 6 will be a recap season and it will give George more time to finish TWOW.

Mmmmm….. and all these spoilers this site gave??

  54. I thought it was a cool look to the past. Many people I know have just caught up with Thrones and it hasn’t been years since they last watched those dead characters and it will probably feel heavier for them. I wish there was new footage, but that will come soon enough.

  55. Disappointed. I wondered for a moment if maybe the voiceovers were giving us a hint if important thematic elements of S6, but on reflection I think not. It’s just the ‘catchphrases’ of dead characters. Tyrion’s face being front and centre at the end reflects only that he is one of the most popular characters among the general viewing audience. Surely a real trailer can’t be too far away, hopefully.

  56. dave: Why would the viewers of the show need to be reminded about what they liked about the show, and/or what has happened in the show?

The biggest viewers of HBO series are professionals in their 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. These are people with very busy lives who will have done many, many things since watching Mother’s Mercy that do not include thinking about Game of Thrones. Thus, it’s good to remind them of the show and remind them of the things that they have seen.

Remember, we are outliers! Our viewership can be taken for granted: but the viewership of people who do not think about shows between seasons cannot be taken for granted quite so easily.

Matthew The Dragon knight: this will probably have the opposite effect, who wants to predicted Vinyls Ratings

I am betting that it does really well with Baby Boomers.

  57. I thought that was awesome! Very well done. Especially the ending with the characters who are currently alive in the Hall of Faces. Also thought the dialogue tied in very well with probable storyline from this season.

You guys (if you read that other topic I posted my theory in) already know I think Sansa will pass the sentence and “swing the sword” (Ramsay). Then you have Robb talk about losing the war (a good tie in with the Northern Lords/The Freys/The Boltons). If Cat’s “show them how it feels to lose what they love” also ties in with the North…you’re going to have another Northern-centric season. Plus, with Jon talking about the long-night, its going to tie in nicely with his storyline, plus, whatever they’re doing with the WWs this season. I thought all of that was freaking brilliant, actually.

Side note, a part of me thought Jon would open his eyes when they did the close up of his face.

  58. Matthew The Dragon knight,

Am I being entranced by the shininess of your hair or are you just so sane and reasonable that I find you super cute?

Hasn’t someone screen capped this all to hell with arrows identifying all the faces yet?

This fandom is SUCH a disappointment. Real fans would have had this done already. Thanks Obama!

  59. Well it’s a nice teaser. I don’t think anyone has a problem with that.

It’s the fact that we get it now that’s dissapointing, we need a good 2 mins trailer with new scenes/lines…

Had this came out like 2-3 weeks ago, I don’t think anyone would have complained.

  60. Tyrion Pimpslap: The show is dedicating an entire season to flashbacks from seasons 1-5.

You have it! After all, Grandpa Simpson once told us that being in a coma was like a TV episode where they did not have time for a script and just did flashbacks. So, this will be all the stuff that Jon sees while in a coma.

    Brilliant!

    😉

  61. Well, what a pile of shite that was! Just an extension of the teaser posted a few days ago. I was going to stay up late (2am UK time) to watch it, but now I won’t bother 🙁

IMHO – HBO are now really pissing fans off BIG TIME who want to see a REAL trailer! No idea either why what looked like Tyrion’s face was the last shown? He’s alive and kicking and sure is one character that will be there at the end…

Black Raven says – “Caw caw – Show us the trailer – Show us the trailer” 😀

  62. Teasers and trailers aren’t the same thing, folks.

And you have to also remember; we’re in unexplored territory – there are no more “let’s show the book readers a little something they’ll appreciate.” Everything is a spoiler now.

This is why I don’t hang around here anymore. You’re all stone-cold drags and whiners. “OMG TRAILER OMG TRAILER I CAN’T WAIT I didn’t like it.”

  63. Deesensfan,

Things that the studio deems as being unsatisfactory or average are leaked on purpose.

See the last season´s first four episodes and many other examples that do not pop into my mind presently. It happens all the time – welcome to Hollywood! It´s like straight to VHS for smaller stuff that sucks in the modern decade 🙂

The idea is to avoid ruining the product or the brand by deflating the disappointment gradually rather than suddenly. Otherwise there would be problems if the promise of good stuff is broken at once for millions of people – Twitter storms and other stuff happening in real time on social media. Now people have many hours to voice their disappointment on niche blogs like these and the idea that this teaser is or like last year that the first part of the last season were really bad will not catch fire.

    Marketing genius 🙂

They already have reviewers / professional journalists in the bag because these people have mouths to feed (as probably do the editors of this blog). The first part of last season was horrible by any standard yet no professional critic voiced even very reasonable criticism. The second part was in the process of becoming great again but ended too soon.

Basic marketing technique but I seriously doubt 99% people will ever understand it. Either people go full nuts in to conspiracy realm or they think manipulation does not exist. The truth is in the middle (not just out there :)) and it´s happening now to us 🙂 I doubt that even the showrunners know how the studio evaluates and manages these things.

People only need to do the marketing manipulation in order to manage the response to a mediocre product – let´s see if the magic of the first four seasons returns in the sixth and there will be no more leaks. I certainly hope so and the lack of leaks once we hit the editing phase is very promising since it means that no studio boss or marketing lady thought it necessary to leak anything :)) . The first four seasons were perfect. Probably the best television ever filmed.

The released photos from the sixth season also look great. The photography and set design looks just right. The clothing, make-up and generally the feel and focus of the actors looked perfect.

  64. Joffrey’s Cunt:
I’m still hoping for some date anouncement at the end.
This looks like a draft to me

Yeah where is the “4.24.16” logo? No date or anything. Are they delaying the season?

  65. Maggie,

They were filming season 7. Later this year they will film season 8. Both seasons 7 and 8 will have extra time to perfect the CGI.

  66. Robert,

WTF are you talking about? Lol
First four episodes were fantastic last year – the whole season was, and that is the majority opinion – Emmy win and all.

Thanks for the explanation though 🙂

  67. I don’t care what you guys say: that gave me goosebumps. It was NOT old footage—those masks took some CG work and it did not feel at all fan-made. The teaser should remind you that NO ONE is safe and we’re all in the dark about who survives and who dies this season. Quit your complaining; you’ll get a full trailer soon.

  68. As far as people thinking this will turn off the fandom from watching, I can only quote Willy Wonka (or was it Oscar Wilde?)

“The suspense is terrible! I hope it will last.”

Like the unclear photos of Sansa, this is some great marketing. It’s exciting yet terrifying to think that one of your (my) favorites might end up dead this season and what a way to get us to discuss it.

Anyone doing an Aces and Eights for GoT this year?

  69. Justin: It was NOT old footage—those masks took some CG work and it did not feel at all fan-made.

No one is saying it’s fan made. It obviously isn’t. It’s also not footage from season six; not only because it doesn’t make any sense that it would, but also because the effects in those faces aren’t up to the standard of what the show usually delivers. This whole sequence was created specifically for this advertisment. So no, it’s not really “new footage” —not of season six, anyway.

  70. The first part all Stark Family characters except Joff, who was instrumental in their demise. Then we have the living and not so alive.. Oh yeah, gonna be good.

  71. I think the teaser is quite cool! I was expecting just Dany launching an empty threat to the great houses of Westeros or Varys declaring Tyrion the saviour of the world.

Surprised that folk can’t recognise the main characters! And looking back at dead characters, then Jon then alive characters is a clever way of showing he is in between as well as a nod to Bran’s storyline looking towards the past and future.

Hope there is a trailer soon. I have the feeling a a full trailer would detract from Vinyl. Glad I didn’t have to wait til 2am to see it though 🙂

  72. To everyone who is butthurt because they expected something major, look at it this way…we now got more than enough teasers and this probably means that the next thing we get from HBO will be a real trailer we all want.

  73. Let’s consider the fact that so many things about the faceless men and there religion have not been fully explained yet…it could be possible that they have a copy of everyone’s face – alive or dead. What if this idea also fit in with Cersei ‘s valonquer theory too.

  74. Robert,

While it’s true that some leaks are on purpose (e.g. the famous Deadpool test footage), I really doubt most are and last seasons definetly weren’t. It really hurt the ratings and furthermore 1-4 were some of the best reviewed episodes of last season; episodes 5-7 got the most criticism (that I don’t share). And the pics spoiling Shireens death that surfaced hours before the premiere of ep9 that wasn’t intentional at all.

This teaser could have been on purpose but I doubt it with Game of Thrones track record.

    This teaser could

  75. Jack Bauer 24,

Jack Bauer 24: Yeah where is the “4.24.16” logo? No date or anything. Are they delaying the season?

I don’t think that would be the case. But it’s odd that it didn’t show any dates indeed. I hope it’s because since it’s a leak it’s not complete, so maybe tonight we’ll get some dates, either for the premiere or for the full trailer.

  76. Real talk I’d rather nothing over this. Reminds me of the preview for the final madmen episode; nothing but a recap of previous events. I get it though for MM, bc it was the SERIES FINALE. This isn’t. Straight wizzack imo

  77. I was hoping for teaser with the date of the full trailer. Like Daredevil Season 2 did today….

    Well, i’m DISAPPOINTED!

  78. Robert:
that the first part of the last season were really bad will not catch fire.

The first four episodes were received very well by critics as well as by most fans IIRC, so was the fifth (all between 96 and 100% on RT). And reviews came out before or at the same time as the leaks, so I can’t really follow your line of thought here.

Also, I don’t think that’s Stephen Dillane’s face next to Kit’s. Could it be Qorin Halfhand aka Simon Armstrong? Or am I hallucinating?

  79. Haha, I’m sure this is HBO’s revenge for the first four episodes being leaked last year.

It’s cool, but I think they’ll feel the heat from exasperated fans. Then again, it’ll probably ensure higher trailer views when it does come.

  80. HBO should be very careful as they are relying far too much on Game of Thrones for income. This teaser is not bad, but is disappointing in the sense that people wanted actual footage. That is on the marketing department, not the showrunners.

HBO still needs to replace Boardwalk Empire and True Blood as well, and with rumors of trouble at HBO, such as HBO Now underselling (their own fault for 1. limiting it to apple devices for a period of time and 2. not expanding beyond the US other countries such as England, although that is probably because of Sky being greedy bastards), the David Fincher – Utopia mess, the delay of Westworld and the total reworking of Lewis and Clark, HBO seems to be in trouble.*

*Note I am just speculating and am most certainly wrong.

  81. the more and more I watch this teaser, the more I like it.
reading all the comments and thinking about what it all means is pretty fun.
10 more sundays until game of thrones 🙂

  82. Selina,

    Eck,

Yeah, I guess a full trailer would detract from Vinyl. I just wish they hadn’t announced it, because it’s like they want the best of both worlds. If people tune in expecting something new they will probably be disappointed. If people were going to watch Vinyl anyway and they saw this teaser it would have been a pleasant surprise (if they hadn’t announced it), and would not be quite so bad.

Sorry, it smacks a s both cynical and lazy. I really hope they don’t use this as an excuse to not give us a full trailer for a while. I’ll give them a week, but I just have a feeling they’ll wait until 28th February, because then it will be under two months until the première.

Look, I’m not an expert in marketing, but annoying your fan base seems to be a pretty stupid thing to do. I would let this one go if it hadn’t been for those stupid Sights last year. It’s the announcement which I think is the thing that pisses people off the most about this.

  83. I personally don’t like all of the D & D hateing because I feel like they are just doing their jobs. They are there to excite and intrige us, as they have done with this trailer.

It has everyone talking about it and any publicity is good publicity.

  84. This is all right. Now that I got over my disappointment of not getting any new footage, I think it’s a well done spot. If it had dropped out of nowhere without a pre-teaser, I’d have probably just praised it. Praised it and still wished for the darn new footage.

Well, it’s 10 weeks. I’ll find something to do 🙂

  85. This teaser lends serious weight to my “every character is actually Jaqen in disguise” theory.

  86. Ser Low-Res: This is all right. Now that I got over my disappointment of not getting any new footage, I think it’s a well done spot. If it had dropped out of nowhere without a pre-teaser, I’d have probably just praised it. Praised it and still wished for the darn new footage.

    It IS really well done!

I honestly think two months ago or so this would’ve been received with unanimous exctiement. It’s just a tad too late for such a basic teaser.

  87. Well, okey, no gifs to make I guess.
I have to say I too was hopping for some real footage. That was an cool idea, but nothing that gets me fired up. Imo if you do something like that, then put a little tease in it, like Daredevil did for example (who ever can spot it gets some internet cred from me. 😉 ). That wasn’t a tease, it was a reminder.

  88. I’ll add this. I’m totally fine if hbo doesn’t even release a trailer for this season. Just premier it on said date and I’m good. In the dark with everything and be totally captivated watching it

  89. Whoa, so many disappointed people. I’m not disappointed, that was fun. The new footage will come… in its proper time.

  90. Afeastfordances:
This teaser lends serious weight to my “every character is actually Jaqen in disguise” theory.

So all of Planetos is just a solipsistic universe existing only inside Jaqen’s mind?

  91. Posting again, because if moderation hell (don’t know what went wrong).

Well, okey, no gifs to make I guess.
I have to say I too was hopping for some real footage. That was an cool idea, but nothing that gets me fired up. 92. KG,

    Deesensfan,

Ha yeah he is a bit confused and by the way not everyone is complaining, and get off this website if you have a problem with the people on it, you’re a brave man talking crap behind your computer. So grow up and keep your negative comments about other people to yourself.

  93. I know HBO warned it was a teaser, but I am still SO disappointed. I really thought they would give us just a few seconds of new season 6 footage, at the very least. Oh well…

p.s. I must admit though… pretty cool to see all of the main characters faces without their hair- really made me see all of them in a very different way than before.

  94. OMFG! Catelyn Stark is in the trailer. The long night is coming, and the dead are coming with it. This totally turns the tables, what if ALL the dead will rise during the long night..
    IMO this also confirms Stoneheart

  95. What? No aliens? Must be a fake!
It could’ve been done better, and with more convincing faces….. like….
Where was Waymar Royce? Or….. to solve an on-going mystery, where was Benjen? What about Ros?

  96. Such a teaser should have been released a month or so ago, not 2 months before the season, and definitely not have been ‘teased’ in advance as if it’s some big deal. There’s just a bunch of masks (of dead and alive characters, thus promoting their tired ‘everyone can die’ bullshyt approach) and old lines. No new footage, characters or even lines. That’s what they wanted people to tune in for? Teasing a teaser coming up which shows nothing.

  97. I believe we will get the trailer sooner rather than later and that will change people’s tune a bit, the power of positivity.

  98. Is that Russian wording in the top margin after the words Game of Thrones? Is that how you got this? Now I have to see what the time difference between here and Moscow is.

  99. Super Northener,

Nope. I was just thinking if they never release a trailer, it’s not going to stop me from tuning in… no matter how frustrated I am. And I think HBO is well aware of that. Everyone wants to know for sure what happened to Jon- they don’t even need to release a trailer, really. They know everyone will be back because of that cliffhanger. They’ve got us in the palm of their hand.

    I CAN’T WAIT!

  100. I really think we will get one later this week. They got their whole “here’s a big show so we will advertise a GoT teaser before it” out of the way, I am thinking a trailer will pop up shortly after

  101. Maybe they are upset about all the spoilers and leaks during filming that they decided we don’t deserve one… Thanks Rocky Mountain ninja climber guy with a camera :/

  102. Also, I haven’t commented on the teaser because I haven’t seen it
I’m gonna wait to watch it on my big tv tonight, but by the way it sounds I think I’m gonna like it 🙂

  103. This idea is basicly some bullshit, they can’t have the faces of Joffrey, he was buried, and not those of Jon (who should be burned or still be alive) or Rob … if that’s it, they have the faces of anyone who ever lived or lives, and it’s a pretty small temple for millions of shelves and it makes the procedure that Arya did with dead people in a temple no sense

  104. Gods, this is why I hope never to have fans of any kind in my life. If you’re that pissed about this, I think that says more about your life (or lack there of) than anything regarding the show. I honestly think they don’t care what the fans think, and that’s a good thing.

Having seen it, I think Wimsey has the right of it: this is aimed at the 30-50 yearolds who make up most of HBO’s viewer/revenue base.

  105. People who are still feeling disappointend, consider this: The later the first real later drops, the less time it is until the premiere from it.

  106. Stoneboy,

If you are serious, then you have a very distinct definition of the term “confirmation”. This teaser confirms absolutly nothing about season 6.

  107. Matthew The Dragon knight:
10 more sundays until game of thrones

Put that way, 10 more Sundays doesn’t sound so bad. Maybe if I re-watch S5, 1 episode every Sunday, the wait from here on out won’t feel so long.

Who am kidding. This wait is agonizing.

  108. Jeb,

I am willing to bet the only fans “annoyed” by this are a small proportion of the hardcore fans that frequent fansites such as this one.

Casual fans will probably find it intriguing and will be reminded the season is returning soon.

  109. Ser Low-Res: People who are still feeling disappointend, consider this: The later the first real later drops, the less time it is until the premiere from it.

Actually that’s not a bad way to look at it. I think I’ll try to think about it in that way 😉

  110. The more I watch it, the more I like it. It really gets you to wondering about hidden clues, and the significance behind those spoken lines. While this is far from my favorite teaser, it’s still good. HBO wasn’t exaggerating when they warned us we would be teased by this, they are definitely picking at us, ha.

  111. Stoneboy,

I do believe that most of the main casts bodies that are not burnt or decapitated will return at some point(maybe the final season) to fight the living, but the corpses below Winterfell will rise and fight the Others, but…

Obviously, this is some hopefull fanfic.

  112. phantomstrife,

+1….thats how I’m feeling as well….however like I just posted I’m totally content if we don’t even get a trailer. Just drop the premier in April and let’s go.

  113. teunteulai,

I don’t think they have their faces at the HOBAW, I mean in the actual story. This teaser is just another way to market the whole Valar Morghulis theme. There are faces of living characters there too. It’s just one big metaphor.

  114. Am I the only person who doesn’t mind not seeing new footage? Remember last season we saw the wise masters surrounding Khaleesi in a trailer and i was just waiting for that to happen. When that episode came around i knew what was going to happen.

Sometimes (IMO) trailers ruin things. Ive waited this long for season 6, i can wait 70 more days without new footage.

  115. I can appreciate people’s frustration/disappointment with this tease, but here’s my thinking from a previous comments section which may or may not be comforting:

The longer we have to wait for a true season six trailer, the less time there will be to wait between that milestone and the premiere itself.

The way they’re spacing out this content is a kindness, ultimately.

  116. Uhhh, really? Seriously, HBO?
The Lord of Light does not aprove of this “teaser”. It’s not even a teaser.
You will burn, marketing department. I will your scream.

  117. Stoneboy: IMO this also confirms Stoneheart

I don’t know if it confirms Stoneheart, but it could be confirming some revenge finally being taken. Joffrey is in there to remind us of the horrible things he did, so that we are primed for wanting that revenge to happen.

Abyss, maybe something with arrows showing who all the faces are, as someone mentioned upthread. Not a gif exactly, a still photo. I couldn’t make out everyone who was on that wall. Was Tywin on the wall? Maybe a still photo will add some meaning, or give us clues about what they were trying to convey. I’m assuming there was a fair amount of thought put into the creation of this thing, even though we don’t particularly like it.

And I still don’t buy the thought that the showrunners have neither input nor approval rights concerning what marketing does. That doesn’t sound right.

  118. I thought it might be something like this. The fact that they announced it not even as a “teaser”, but a “tease” made me think as much.

It actually makes me wonder if we’ll even get a full trailer with footage from the new season. Given that this is the first year that they’re beyond the books, maybe the idea is to not let anybody see anything until the season begins.

  119. Super Northener,

After this teaser, I’m thinking the same. How wonderful that would be 🙂 IMO, this confirms Stoneheart for sure. Her line “Show them how it feels to loose what they love” IS Stoneheart.

  120. Elessar,

As I am 28 years old I feel as though I am in the younger veiwers bracket.

And as they said it would be a tease, then I am more than happy with ”so called” tease.

I donot know why I put so called in ”” but I did so handle it as you please.

    Please forgive my wordsmanship

  121. tyjon,

Were you trying to say that this leaked teaser is not the teaser they meant to show us? I’m totally disappointed with this, yes. but I don’t expect someone would be able to do something like this.. How do you actually expect a fan to do those faces???

  122. *If you haven’t watched the teaser, yet, don’t read this post.*

What I like about this is it gives me a sense this season will have a focus on revenge, or as I called it on the other thread, comeuppance. I love how Stark-centric it is. In thinking about the dead people they showed, how they died, and who was responsible for theirs deaths, there’s potential for revenge, or whatever you want to call it on several houses…Boltons, Freys, and Lannisters (Catelyn and Robb), Lannisters, again (Ned), and, most interestingly, at least for me, Tyrells and Littlefinger (Joffrey). That’s not to say I think it’s all that simple, but it gives me a little something on which to chew (not the fine chocolate I was hoping for, perhaps, but not exactly a shit sandwich, either).

  123. Irishton,

I like the teaser as a work of art – I don’t like that the artistic team who made it had stolen the idea from that fan art I liked a lot – the picture with Arya in the middle, it is discussed above. I like the reminder that we will all die and our favourite characters as well, it creates a strange atmosphere. But, of course, I’m disappointed that we haven’t got new stuff to speculate about.

  124. Jack Bauer 24: Yeah where is the “4.24.16” logo? No date or anything. Are they delaying the season?

It ain’t delayed, silly. The premiere has been confirmed for 4/24 for a while. But more related to the teaser, how do you feel about stealing people’s faces.

  125. Stop whining bunch of childs! You act like royals and as if you have the right to get new footage. It’s ridiculous to be honest. There will be new footage, don’t worry! And maybe thin k about this fantastic thematic trailer, which is saying a lot about the seasons to come..

  126. Ginevra,

To the left of Jon Snow, I’m pretty sure that’s Stannis. And it looks like Jaime and Cersei to the left and right of Arya. It’s not divided by good versus evil but alive versus dead. (Because HBO has still got to die on that Jon-Snow-is-Definitely-Dead Hill.)

  127. Wow people will complain about anything.

Will you still be watching episode 1 in April? If yes, who cares about the trailer.

Too many spoilers on all shows and movies now. Just look at the big reveal in the batman vs superman trailer.

I like being left in the dark. Makes for a better viewing experience.

GOT is the best show with some of he worst fans.

  128. Sebas:
Stop whining bunch of childs! You act like royals and as if you have the right to get new footage. It’s ridiculous to be honest. There will be new footage, don’t worry! And maybe thin k about this fantastic thematic trailer, which is saying a lot about the seasons to come..

Children usually know how to pluralize “child”.

  129. Sebas,

I don’t think there is anything wrong with people saying they are disappointed. Normally a full trailer has been released by now, so it is not like people are asking for something early.

Most of the responses actually say that the teaser in itself is quite good, but it is the sort of teaser that is usually released 5 months before the première and not two. That is the issue.

  130. I cannot believe so many people are bitching. This was awesome! Much better than what I was expecting. 😀 This teaser opens up all kinds of possibilities. It means anyone could come back if a faceless man took their face. Also, they showed us the faces of characters who have not died yet at the end for a reason. Is it to imply that they TOO will die? Or does this mean every person in the world is in that room? Or does it mean these are the people who will play an important part in the fate of Westeros?

Just fucking amazing! I can’t believe all the nay-sayers.

  131. West of Moon:
The more I watch it, the more I like it. It really gets you to wondering about hidden clues, and the significance behind those spoken lines. While this is far from my favorite teaser, it’s still good. HBO wasn’t exaggerating when they warned us we would be teased by this, they are definitely picking at us, ha.

I’m not bothering checking for clues this time. We’ve been trolled with those kind of teasers and fake hints so many times already. Remember raven brings the sight, Nikolai with his duck, Lena Heady with her ‘stoneheart’ ?

  132. Rush Sangs:
Quick note: tywin is next to joffrey, and ygritte and Stannis next to Jon!

Yeah, I think that is Stannis, even though he’s rarely clean shaven.

  133. They certainly did not reveal anything new. I hope we will still see a trailer somewhere within this month.

  134. Ginevra:
    Maggie,

Who are to the left and right of Arya?Who is to the left of Jon Snow?

My money is on Cersei (on the left) and Daario (on the right). Everyone is placed by someone they’re tied too in one way or the other. Daario makes sense under Daenerys, and Cersei makes sense under Sansa.

  135. Thronetender: I’m assuming there was a fair amount of thought put into the creation of this thing, even though we don’t particularly like it.

To be honest, I don’t think that was the case. They selected prominent characters both dead and alive. Faces that people would recognize. As a said, I don’t think the teaser confirms or even hints at anything when in comes to next season. – Apart from the good old Valar Morghulis theme of course, but that doesn’t tell us anything new.

  136. Jack Bauer 24,

That’s today’s journalism standards for you.

The only thing is that HBO brought it on themselves. The journalists probably assumed it was a full trailer because a trailer has normally been released by now.I really think HBO shot themselves in the foot by announcing it, but we all know they only did that to boost Vinyl’s viewing figures.

  137. Yes, that’s his face, and the faces of everyone who is alive right now, who will die in the future. “The long night is coming, and the dead with it.”

  138. “When media says the GOT S6 Teaser is a TRAILER #Staytuned

WTH is that supposed to mean??

    Jack Bauer 24:
The biggest “trolls” are all the sites calling our S6 TEASER a TRAILER.#GoT #staytuned

    https://twitter.com/b_cogman/status/698982463796695040

That was the tweet from Cogman.

Well at least that makes grammatical sense. Even if he doesn’t say anything about when the actual trailer will be released. Of course, he wouldn’t know.

  139. Jack Bauer 24,

I really don’t think so. Not only do we have four of the Big 5 who will likely make it to the end in here, but these faces cannot all be (and probably any be) in the Hall of Faces. The HoBaW get their faces from those who come to the House to die and be cleaned and cared for immediately by No One.

Certainly Joffrey’s body would be protected, as a king. Robb’s head would likely have been ravaged, as Catelyn’s and the fact that she’s still using hers. So this video is more metaphorically talking about the dead and perhaps the soon-to-be-dead, but I think at least four of these will survive until the end and hopefully through the end.

  140. Hodors Bastard:
Interesting. The concept of the familiar dead in HoB&W was introduced byertacaltinoz on deviantart a few months back. I like how they took the Stark angle.

Nice. But I think the teaser is actually a more interesting concept as that painting is basically Arya’s literal “kill list” come to life by being shown a heads behind her in her actual place of deathly “business”. While the teaser starts by using the heads as a conceptual reminder of all the memorable deaths on the show (it only seems Stark heavy because they’ve suffered greatly. But the theme here is just death, as Joffrey is included as well). And then it (shockingly) transforms into showing the heads of basically every character that is still alive as well.

It’s a really good teaser. They just shouldn’t have made it some kind of event by announcing it.

  141. The teaser has been removed from YouTube. I guess HBO got their panties in a bunch over yet another leak.

  142. Sebas: And maybe thin k about this fantastic thematic trailer, which is saying a lot about the seasons to come..

I’m not complainig about the teaser, just to make that clear. It is good for what it is, but I would be very impressed if you can give me one solid new hint about season 6 based on it.

  143. The video (in the link) is no longer available due to copy right claim by HBO. There goes my last hope for this video to be a fan-made rubbish like that photo-shopped image of Jon before S5 finale.

  144. Ginevra,

Now, after some research, I’m sure it’s Stephen Dillane’s face next to Kit. He has some kind of birthmark or wart or whatever you wanna call it on the left side of his face, just where the dimples are (I hope this is the right vocabulary).

And I believe it is Lena under Sophie and definitely Nikolaj (nose and mouth fit) under Emilia.

  145. Didn’t they specifically say “WARNING: you will be teased” in the tweet when they announced it? Any thoughts on whether this “leak” is the tease they were referring to, and there may actually be a trailer of sorts later tonight…

  146. The theme of the story is Valar Mhorgulis. All men must die!!!!!

If you havent noticed that in the story then you haven’t being paying attention.

  147. Bastards! Why hype us up by making a big deal about announcing it, only for it to then be no new footage? Why highlight their own shame?

  148. alwayswinter:
Didn’t they specifically say “WARNING: you will be teased” in the tweet when they announced it? Any thoughts on whether this “leak” is the tease they were referring to, and there may actually be a trailer of sorts later tonight…

    I’m wondering the same thing.

  149. Stranger’s Pooper Scooper:
I just tried and it said HBO had taken down the link.

True. I watched it, read some comments, wanted to watch it again, bam, gone!!!

Also, I’m not yet 100% convinced that this is actually legit. Could be some fanmade hoax. Someone showing off his/her 3D modeling skillz… On the other hand HBO did claim the copyright now.

    tyjon: yjon
    February 14, 2016 at 3:55 pm
Bunch of BS, fan made, notice there’s no HBO logo.

  150. alwayswinter,

Only 2000 people saw that video before HBO took it down for copyright. They aren’t preparing a long con “tease” just for 2000 people…this video was definitely their tease for tonight.

Though if you were somehow right it would make my day!

  151. Super Northener:
The theme of the story is Valar Mhorgulis. All men must die!!!!!

If you havent noticed that in the story then you haven’t being paying attention.

I get that many more people will die before the series is over, but…Everyone? If the planned ending for this is a LOST-like “everyone is dead” thing they should prepare themselves for a somewhat less than positive overall fan reaction?

  152. I was about to make a fuss about it being taken down, then I remembered that it was not even re watch worthy, someone fire whoever made this abomination of a tease

  153. RosanaZugey: My money is on Cersei (on the left) and Daario (on the right). Everyone is placed by someone they’re tied too in one way or the other. Daario makes sense under Daenerys, and Cersei makes sense under Sansa.

I can certainly see Daario in that image more than Jaime, although even Daario is a question mark, I think.

To the left of Arya is certainly a very attractive woman with high cheekbones, so that could be Cersei, but the others seem to be arranged next to those they might actually like or be like.

  154. Geee…

I loved it! So moody, so dark. Sets the scene well and in my opinion foreshadows the Starks upcoming battles. Ned and cats quotes make that clear.

Also (me praying) it could foreshadow LSH and a snow resurrection based on cat and jons line selections….

Also it was called a teaser not a trailer people. If you came across a ‘tease’ in a club you end up annoyed/eager for sown thing more. A full trailer was never on the cards! ?

  155. Wylie,

That’s exactly what I honed in on, too, when someone said Stannis. I rewatched the video until I could clearly see that mark.

It would be nice to say the absence of any mark under “Jaime’s” left (our right) eye is a proof that he’s not Jaime, but the nose could be blocking the mark for this guy.

  156. I liked it, but I’m also kind of hoping they limit the amount of new footage they show this time around. Since I’d rather be unspoiled.

  157. Jack Bauer 24,

Hahahaha! He so right! I like it (the TEASER). Just because we’ve gotten stuff before doesn’t mean we’re going to get it now. It wouldn’t be GoT if expectations were not being thwarted. Still hoping for an IMAX experience and a trailer there.

  158. Ashara D,

    He is right

God cant people just appreciate all this, just WAIT and watch the season. I REALLY want a trailer too but ill take anything. We will get everything in time.
Im excited for two hours of Vinyl!

  159. I watched it 2000 times myself. 😉

    Definitely goes Sansa, Tyrion, Dany.
Then Cersei, Arya, Jaime in that final shot.

Did anyone get any of the wider shots? Any identifiable faces?

  160. George,

Valar Mhorgulis? I didnt say everyone will die at the end of the series, I just said all men must die. And if that means all males will die or all characters will die I do not know. But know-matter what every character will die before the end of the story or after the story.

  161. Nymeria Warrior Queen:
*If you haven’t watched the teaser, yet, don’t read this post.*

Too late, the link no longer works, so I will have to wait until 7:59 PM EST.
Still reading all the comments though, LOL!!!

  162. Ginevra: I can certainly see Daario in that image more than Jaime, although even Daario is a question mark, I think.

To the left of Arya is certainly a very attractive woman with high cheekbones, so that could be Cersei, but the others seem to be arranged next to those they might actually like or be like.

About 99% per cent sure it is Cersei next to Arya so by default the man is Jaime. It doesn’t really look like him but it would make sense that out of the “living” characters it’s the 6 leading actors/main characters (and before anyone says Bran is one of the main 5 – in the books he might be but not in the show). I don’t think there’s any big logical reasoning for the placement of characters’ faces. I did like Tywin next to Joffrey 🙂

    Selina,

I am not on Twitter. But loads of my Facebook friends watch the show and no one has even commented on it let alone been disappointed. Plus people tend to rant and rave on social networking when they feel more negatively and want to complain. Whereas if they rather enjoyed it, or were interested but not on the edge of their seat ecstatic they probably wouldn’t. Maybe it just depends on where you are from/who you follow online.

  163. alcasinoroyale,

I probably shouldn’t encourage his condescension, especially given he doesn’t seem to need any, but I can’t help but be somewhat amused by it.

    Greenjones:
    Jack Bauer 24,

    Discuss it amongst yourselves.

Holy shit…all this time you’ve been Linda Richman in disguise.

    I’m a little verklempt!

  164. I was reading one day in the reddits some theories about the faceless men, and that kind of reminded me of a wider picture in game, not any theory in particular but it gave me a glimpse of many possibilities that I hadn’t thought about or considered while thinking in the series as a whole, so, if this teaser is the real deal, I think its goal is to remind people of a bigger picture in game, that some things could be totally different of what the viewers are expecting

  165. Deesensfan:
    Newbietothegame,

i havent seen it either but it sounds good
i knew it had to do with the HOF

    haha!

and its 8:59 est!!! dont miss it

I used the link from Entertainment Weekly that someone posted. Glad I did, I am tired today and I can go to bed early. It’s a teaser alright. Meh!

  166. Nymeria Warrior Queen,

Yeah I guess. I just don’t get the point of unnecessary comments like that. I mean these teasers we’ve got this year have been better than the raven sights from last year and we got a pretty good selection of promo photos a few days ago. I mean yes I’m a bit disappointed, but hopefully the trailer comes soon.

  167. Steven:
this would have been cute as a tease like, two weeks ago?
but now we’re just so parched for the trailer, the teasing feels more like taunting lol

That’s what I’m talking about. This kind of teaser shoulda released earlier. We need an actual footage.

  168. Sounds like they are avoiding potential spoilers as much as possible for as long as possible given we are going into territory the books haven’t covered in some respects

That said they can cover some RL stuff from AFFfC or ADwD at least that isn’t spoilery

  169. Ghost’s Lunch: Sounds like they are avoiding potential spoilers as much as possible for as long as possible given we are going into territory the books haven’t covered in some respects

The show has such a built in audience by now, HBO probably feels they can string out revealing anything until as close to air date as possible, as well as being in mostly no n book territory. My guess is a real trailer shows up around March, is still a month and a half until air date. Maybe they’re still giving GRRM a chance to finish WINTER….(kidding kidding)

  170. Pedro:
At this rate, I think the trailer will end up coming AFTER Season 6 itself….

Maybe they’ll announce that the trailer for season 6 will only be included with the season 5 blue rays…lol. It would certainly provide a jolt to the sale of the blue ray set…lol.

  171. Nymeria Warrior Queen,

I’m with you here. It was not my favorite piece of marketing- but the subtlety of dropping an upcoming theme (hopefully) is nice. I’m surprised more people aren’t excited about Ned’s line, given all the discussion lately about the possibility of Sansa “swinging the sword”.

A little surprised at all the hate. It’s not like HBO always kills with promotions- how lame were the raven sight promos? And who is actually ready to judge this season, or HBO’s capacity to produce quality TV in general, based on this teaser?

  172. Season 3 still holds the record for the longest wait for a trailer (February 23th)
Also it was 37 days before the premiere. I don’t think HBO will beat that.

Now that my disappointment has vanished, I hope that we’ll get something on the 28th or March 6th.

Arrgh this is unbearable, need a good night of sleep because work awaits me tomorrow…

  173. This would’ve been a home run if it aired TWO WEEKS AGO DURING THE SUPERBOWL!!!!! Now it just….. ehh, especially after having different teasers with new dialogue and than this with zero freshness…….

  174. Kelsey,

I think this just means we’re gonna get one trailer instead of two like last year (or was it three I can’t remember).

I think HBO have gone the secrecy route rather than the uber-marketing route, to ensure the first book-less season feels as pure and unpredictable as possible when we finally get to see it.

  175. Nymeria Warrior Queen:
    alcasinoroyale,

I probably shouldn’t encourage his condescension, especially given he doesn’t seem to need any, but I can’t help but be somewhat amused by it.

Holy shit…all this time you’ve been Linda Richman in disguise.

    I’m a little verklempt!

    What?

  176. If this is truly the teaser trailer I am skipping Vinyl tonight and maybe even for a few weeks. HBO should never approve such a piece of crap with bad cgi at that, to promote with their new series, GoT deserves a bad ass mf teaser. Can you imagine the viewers thinking wtf was that? I tuned in tonight instead of watching on DVR because of the teaser, and HBO gives us this piece of shite.

The purpose of marketing and announcing a teaser such as they’ve done is too build excitement by giving viewers something awesome, this is far, far from it.

  177. alcasinoroyale,

I agree, and as I said, I probably shouldn’t have encouraged it, but sometimes I’m in the mood to point out the absurdity of proclamations like that.

    Jack Bauer 24,

When I hear (read) someone saying “discuss it amongst yourselves” I automatically hear “I’ll give you a topic…” It’s from a character named Linda Richman Mike Myers did on SNL many years back.

  178. And to all bitching for not getting any new material in the teaser: Stop acting so entitled ! Art takes its time and HBO is not your bitch ! It will be ready when it is ready !

  179. Maybe they show other dead characters in both teasers to pervent people from asking if jon snow is really dead why he is in teasers and promo poster??

  180. Nymeria Warrior Queen:

I agree, and as I said, I probably shouldn’t have encouraged it, but sometimes I’m in the mood to point out the absurdity of proclamations like that.

It’s all good. You’re right too, though. It’s quite amusing to see people make dumb comments like that.

  181. I’m appreciative of anything. Its privilege enough that the show is even there for me to enjoy every year.

And what I wouldn’t give to see 3 Faceless Men become Robb, Catelyn and Talisa and go to The Twins to pay the Frey’s a visit… 😉

  182. I guess that’s why they called it a “tease” as opposed to a “teaser”, which usually means new footage.

  183. I had to do this really quickly so pretty crappy quality I’m afraid, but grabbed some screen shots from the link on the EW site and tried to lighten them up. On my computer screen I can barely see anything it’s so dark. You guys must either have very bright screens or really good eyes, most of these I couldn’t even have guessed at without lightening them first.

Can’t do anything with the shot of Joffrey, although I would guess it’s Tywin next to him. As others have said it seems to be Ygritte to Jon’s left (so on the right as we look at him) and maybe Stannis to his right (couldn’t get a decent shot of the whole face). The only ones I’m fairly confident of are Tyrion with Dany on his left and Sansa on his right and I think Arya under him (so to speak). Could be Jaime and Cersei to her left and right, but Jaime isn’t connected to Dany so who knows? Anyway, for what it’s worth pictures are here. 🙂

  184. Thronetender:
Well, at least the spoiler-avoiders can’t complain that something was spoiled.

They´ll complain about the first four episodes leaked in March.

  185. Speaking of the GOT dearly (or not so) departed, congratulations to Kate Dickie on the BAFTA Best British Short Film award for “Operator,” in which she stars. Having watched the falsely named “teaser,” think I’ll continue my re-reading of ASOIAF (instead of watching “Vinyl”) until the long-awaited return of John Oliver and “Last Week Tonight.”

  186. I pretty much knew this is what we were going to get.

GoT takes a lot more time to get finished cuts then most other shows do, due to the massive amount of CGI.

I remember D&D stating how even when the first half of the season is airing, they still are working on the second half final episodes to finish the CGI.

I would rather wait for a few weeks fore some juicy footage anyway.

This teaser is clearly just a marketing scheme that serves two purposes, remind people GoTs is coming in April and to pull the GoT fans who pay attention to this kind of stuff to the TV screen to catch the premier of Vinyl.

Like they said, its just a tease. At least we got something.

  187. jon,

I saw that awhile ago, really wouldn’t say it’s going to be a fact that he wargs into ghost lol

  188. Arthur:

Except it isn’t reminding people that GoT returns in April because they didn’t even include the date at the end. They’ve promoted the date on Twitter, FB, and everywhere else so it’s weird they they didn’t take the opportunity to display it on their actual channel…

  189. Well that was dissapointing. ….but it still gave me a chilling feeling. …. but I have a lot of questions. ….
like all those faces can’t be at the house of black and white , can it?
I mean how would jon’s face end up there. …??
I think they are just showing us people who are dead or they want us to assume is dead. …but why tyrion? ?
is tyrion gonna die in season 6??? Coz that will be well..really bad if he does. ….
is arya gonna use those faces if they are really in that face gallary? ???
etc etc,….,.still was hoping to see drogon. …and wun wun. …maybe will have to wait one week or so or even a month…

  190. Well that was underwhelming. When I saw the 10 second clip 2 days ago when they announced the tease, I thought “i hope it’s not going to be more of that House of Black and White crap”, and it turned out to be exactly that. Glad I didn’t get too hype for this. If this pre-season GoT is a sign of things to come, season 6 may be a huge disappointment.

  191. thremnir:
Very cool on its own terms; very underwhelming as an s6 teaser.I imagine it would be perfectly possible for someone to fake that, so it’s not inconceivable that it’s a bogusleak and the real is yet to come.

I haven’t read most of the comments (yet ) but I don’t think Sue would post anything that leaked unless she first confirmed its validity with her sources.

  192. Darjan: If this pre-season GoT is a sign of things to come, season 6 may be a huge disappointment.

I can’t even fathom how you arrived at that conclusion. How are the choices of HBO’s marketing (especially when we haven’t had any footage yet!) supposed to predict the quality of the season?

  193. What would be funny is if this was an intentional leak. Granted, my hopes are high! Regardless, I’m excited about anything they give us. I wonder if these faces are actually in the Hall of Faces, though. Arya could steal Catelyn’s face for some Stoneheart action.

  194. Sue the Fury:
I set up a new poll about the teaser. Go to the bottom of the site, on the left, to vote!

My answer is “It’s fine, I guess…I would have loved this if it came out 2 months ago”. The most popular answer for now, it seems.

  195. Luka Nieto: My answer is “It’s fine, I guess…I would have loved this if it came out 2 months ago”. The most popular answer for now, it seems.

Yeah that’s pretty much my reaction, except they really could have released this after “Mother’s Mercy” haha. We at least have the quotes from the first teaser and the Battle Banner Teasers and the promo photos like you said though. I think this is much better than the raven sights, but yeah it’s February so I’m somewhat confused. However, based on the spoilers we know so far S6 is looking very promising, so this teaser doesn’t really downgrade the season.

  196. I noticed Davos next to Joffrey’s face, ygritte and Mance next to Jon, so it’s not like dead characters followed by alive, I.e Davos is alive but appeared next to Joffrey.

    That out of the way.

HBO clearly have used Game of Thrones popularity to get us to switch channel and view Vinyl. Simple as that. Good old marketing placement.

Plus, I wouldn’t be surprised If the “tease” was intentionally released early to avoid a fan rage, bang on 8:59.

  197. Lulus Mum,

Uhm…Jaime killed Dany’s father. So that’s a connection. But I don’t think they were ordered for connection. I think they were ordered for shock value.

    Pigeon,

Most definitely Nikolaj’s nose and jaw. I have studied that face for…longer than I care to admit.

  198. Deesensfan,

    I haven’t.
I’d been trying to figure out why one woman from the Vinyl trailers looked so familiar…

She’s the “chick who screams all the time” from True Blood.

I went with the “it’s fine, I guess…” on the poll, too. I’d actually forgotten about the polls down there. Oops.

  199. I knew it wasn’t going to be anything like a full trailer, but I expected it to be more than HBO has already released. They’ve already released a couple of snippets of dialogue, some pictures, and even some second-long video clips.

Unless these quotes somehow foreshadow what’s going to happen in S6, I don’t see how it can justifiably be called a teaser even…

  200. So…there you go. What’s really been confirmed is HBO indeed STILL, unbelievably so, but STILL, has a leak problem with this show. It’s almost difficult to believe this leaked early given the problems in season 5.

  201. Late to the party, but I love this. It’s creepy, forbidding and oddly beautiful. I’m somewhat surprised about the complaints here, but then again, I wasn’t heavily invested in seeing new footage. In fact, I’m starting to think I’ll try to avoid the trailers. I want to be surprised.

  202. Darjan,

Hmm,not sure if stupid or just trolling . This teaser may suck but that has nothing to do with how the season will be,you are just as ridiculous as that guy who said it’s D&D’s fault for this teaser .

  203. Bongo,

What gift horse? As others have already said, HBO isn’t a free service, in fact it’s pretty pricey for what it is. Same goes for the DVD and BD sets of the show. Trailers and teasers may be free, but they’re not gifts. They’re made to promote a product, a product HBO wants you to pay for. As a said, I have nothing against the teaser, but if I had to decide to trop money on the show after seen it and knew nothing about the show whatsoever or had yet to decide if I wanted to invest more money into the show I wouldn’t have done so. Not exactly hype material at this point in time imo.

  204. I effing enjoyed that !!!
    That’s some creepy shit
Used the same build up music from hardhome

Basically what they’re saying is – anyone can die at anytime, but who

Loved the focus on the starks at first

  205. dave,

It’s a teaser ffs, calm down, you are acting like the entire scripts for the season got leaked or something. Probably some intern got too excited and made some mistake .

  206. Nerd,

Thought so as well!! Maybe because we wouldn’t recognize John/Kit without any hair at all? And recognizing him is *somehow* important bc he’s *somehow* important? Haven’t noticed anyone with facel hair before(season5), but maybe I’m wrong…

  207. Deesensfan:
So HBO Canada didn’t have a teaser! Lol

LOLOL. If I were in your shoes I don’t know if I’d be furious or relieved to be denied the teaser.

    dave:
So…there you go. What’s really been confirmed is HBO indeed STILL, unbelievably so, but STILL, has a leak problem with this show. It’s almost difficult to believe this leaked early given the problems in season 5.

Yup. They need to crack down on these leaks or they will have a problem again in April just like last year. And this time, I don’t know if I’ll have the self control to not watch any leaked episodes. Get your shit together, HBO.

  208. dave:
So…there you go. What’s really been confirmed is HBO indeed STILL, unbelievably so, but STILL, has a leak problem with this show. It’s almost difficult to believe this leaked early given the problems in season 5.

Eh, it’s not that hard to believe. It’s a big show, this sort of thing happening is rather common. A bunch of information from The Force Awakens leaked months before the movie hit theaters, only that almost nobody posted about it because of the fearsome Disney lawyers lol. But you could still find it on Reddit and sites like that.

  209. I’ve just scrolled down with eyes rolling…after seeing 150+ comments bitching and moaning about this, and most of these comments are pretty damn childish, sometimes at the admission of the author. What were you all expecting? It was an approx 60 second clip we were promised, and in all honesty it wasn’t that bad, perhaps a little disappointing but it’s still not a bad teaser. Certainly not bad enough to warrant stamping your feet, certainly not bad enough to make assumptions on how bad S6 will be and certainly not bad enough to blame innocent parties on the content of the clip. A lot of you need to grow up and stop being so damn over-entitled. There, I said it. Shoot me. The trailer will come when it comes… Y’all need to relaxxxx 🙂

  210. BunBunStark,

Oh god, I really don’t want a repeat of last year’s four episode leak. I know they set up a new system of having to log into a site. The show is already well established, so I would prefer if they just didn’t give critics any early episodes. I bet you even if them only hand out a single episode, it will still be leaked ahead of airing.

  211. I’m still holding out hope for a trailer after Vinyl. The GOT twitter account has a poster with ‘House Vinyl’ on it, so they seem quite invested in the show (that’s because a trailer’s coming. Right?). I’m finally going to bed now, so here’s to hoping that I’ll wake up to a nice, new, shiny trailer. 🙂

  212. jon,

B&W almost certainly would not have joked about it if Jon actually was going to do it. They very probably were just poking fun at the popular fan conjecture.

At any rate, neither show nor book has put that possibility out there. The book tells us that it can be done, but only by experienced wargs: and even then, the warg loses himself in the animal very quickly. The show never shows us the possibility. Given how Chekhovian B&W are in their presentations, they would have hung a “wargs can cheat death by hiding out in an animal and then leap back into a human” gun and the “Jon is a really skilled warg” gun in advance.

Instead, look for Jon’s salvation to come from a gun that already has been hung (*cough* Season 3 *cough*) before.

  213. dave:
So…there you go. What’s really been confirmed is HBO indeed STILL, unbelievably so, but STILL, has a leak problem with this show. It’s almost difficult to believe this leaked early given the problems in season 5.

It is a bit concerning that there is a probability of episode leaks again this season

  214. There was literally nothing from Season 6 in this so-called teaser. I know we’re not “entitled” to a trailer/teaser of course, but it’s the fact that they deceptively marketed this thing in an attempt to get eyeballs for Vinyl. I was looking forward to this all day, but oh well, I’ll get over it.

On a side note, Jon is with two dead people. If the widely expected mega-spoiler turns out to be false, I expect some props for sticking to my guns all this time. 🙂

  215. To paraphrase a frequent poster here, “Once again, D&D spread our cheeks to ram cock in fucking ass.”
That was not even a teaser. It should not have been called a teaser because it was like someone accidentally hit the rewind button.
And to those of you who think D&D have no control over spoilers or trailers… you are fooling yourselves. They mentioned in the past how tightly controlled most info is, especially leading up to the stabbing.
D&D sign off on what goes out and they only let themselves and two other writers in the script writing room. You REALLY think they are going to trust some ad-nerd to put forth their vision to the world for the first time.

  216. Apollo,

We are at mid-February now. We are expecting something new. Even the Bran/3EC and Banners stuff at least had new dialogue. This has nothing that will be used in the new season, and we had already seen that room last year. It is just a continuation of the Jon Snow is dead and Valar Morghulis themes that they love so much. Both of those are getting long in the tooth. This fan made trailer gets me more hyped than that teaser. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9UVr-mudn0

  217. First, it’s “she.”
Second, I’ve been around here since before the show hit the airwaves.
Third, I’ve never been shy about mocking the mouth-breathing fanboys that congregate around this show.
Fourth, I appear to have hurt your feelings. Good.

    Irishton:
    KG,

    Deesensfan,

Ha yeah he is a bit confused and by the way not everyone is complaining, and get off this website if you have a problem with the people on it, you’re a brave man talking crap behind your computer. So grow up and keep your negative comments about other people to yourself.

  218. Wimsey,

The other gun has only been accomplished by one person who’s nowhere near the Wall, and it’s not clear whether it’s transferable. There are no reports of it happening in Essos, despite there being a lot more practitioners there and being much closer to the magical revival’s epicenter.

  219. KG,

I’m not too keen on the fans either… There has been so much trashing of book readers for being snobbish, and now show fans are falling into the same behaviour: “this is not what I expected”; “this is not what it should be”.

I liked the tease, specially after all the live characters death masks appeard… As somebody said early on this thread… Valar Morghulis!

  220. KG:
    First, it’s “she.”
Second, I’ve been around here since before the show hit the airwaves.
Third, I’ve never been shy about mocking the mouth-breathing fanboys that congregate around this show.
Fourth, I appear to have hurt your feelings.Good.

Lol @ the tough internet person.

  221. FreeParking:
    Apollo,

This fan made trailer gets me more hyped than that teaser. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9UVr-mudn0

I really like this guy’s GoT videos. HBO should get him to do their trailers. Even with old footage and dialogue, it’s edited well enough to tell a newbie what the show’s about and get casual viewers hyped for the upcoming season.

I mean, I like the teaser but it did leave much to be desired.

  222. Deesensfan,

Jon’s head is between Stannis’ and Ygritte’s in the video, while the faces of the characters who are still alive are together in a different place. Just sayin’….

  223. I’m part of that Baby Boomer demographic that HBO is supposedly trying to reach with ‘Vinyl’ (I was in college in 1973, when it’s set), and I couldn’t make it through the first half-hour. The writing was really hokey and the costumes ridiculously exaggerated. I wonder if anybody who worked on it was out of diapers in the mid-1970s. It’s like a cartoon version of the hippie era.

Based on the opening episode, I get the feeling that somebody at HBO said, “Hey! Let’s do something like ‘The Wolf of Wall Street,’ only set in the music business. Lots of drugs and decadence and ruthless business dealings and partying and materialism and crudeness. Maybe we can break its record for most frequent use of the F-word in three hours.” Well, I haven’t detested a movie in years nearly as much as ‘The Wolf of Wall Street,’ so this is one Boomer they’ve already lost.

  224. just had to read a few comments to remember why i don’t read comments anymore. just a bunch of entitle b****tching.

  225. This scared me. At first I was thinking: rubbish! they don’t have these faces because they never had the bodies. And then the horror of seeing Tyrion and Arya and Sansa. I think I took it the way it was meant to be read. Fear for your favorite characters this season.

But I have to own I am also disappointed by the tease. We need a trailer ASAP.

  226. Wimsey,

I always like your analyses Wimsey but I have to disagree with you here. I definitely think warging was adequately set up in the book – if one believes

    R+L=J

<- not even sure if this needs to be in spoiler code since it's still only a (very likely) theory, but whatever!

Also in spoiler code, since it's book only:

Varamyr Sixskins talks about Ghost, and that his was a form "fit for a king." I think it's a fair interpretation that this is foreshadowing Jon entering Ghost, since if he is Lyanna and Rhaegar's son, he is a king-in-waiting (actually, the rightful king, if his parents were legitimately married).
  227. I read a really cool interpretation of wwhat jon snow said, written by someone on facebook.
“In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, Azor Ahai was a legendary hero who lived approximately eight thousand years before Aegon’s Landing. It is said that during the midst of The Long Night, Azor Ahai rose up and defeated the Others, wielding a sword of fire called Lightbringer.”

Azor Ahai rose up in the midst of “The Long Night” and Jon Snow just happens to use that exact phrase in the teaser. Snow isn’t talking about White Walkers, he’s saying the Long Night has returned and the dead (himself) come with it. He will be reborn as the Prince that was Promised during The Long Night.
this was written by someone named Berry Cochran.
I like it a lot lol

  228. zod,

I doubt anything was stolen. It’s a pretty obvious idea…but that doesn’t make it any less interesting visually.

It is a disappointment that we didn’t get a trailer. But I’ve got a lot of TV that I’m keeping up with this year, so I’m fine waiting a little long for more GoT.

  229. Matthew The Dragon knight,

Apologies, dear Ser for the delay in responding. Exchanging “A Storm of Swords” briefly for the Oxford Dictionary, a “tease” is used to either make fun of someone or tempt them. This piece of film certainly didn’t tempt me. (I will admit that I was waiting/hoping for one of the “faces” to open its eyes at the end). And now back to sending Ghost to Castle Black because Jon has to climb the Wall.

  230. zod,

They may well have, but ideas are not copyrightable.

    Demon monkey,

That was pretty much exactly my reaction. I did scream when I saw Tyrion and Arya, my two favorites, but I quickly realized they couldn’t be taking all of these folks. They are really just messing with us.

    iridium,

I respect and disagree with Wimsey a lot. I think he feels it is somewhat setup in the books but not at all in the show.

If the gun is hung, it must go off, but no one ever said the contrapositive was true. Sometimes, we like to be shocked. There was no significant gun for Ned’s head.

  231. Last scene the faces in the center row left to right are Sansa, Tyrion and Daeny
the face in the center of the bottom row is Arya

This was nothing more than a visual vahlar morgulis, in case anyone has forgotten that anyone on this series can die at any time.

Like Arya told Tywin Lannister in season two when Tywin asked if she thought that Rob could not be killed, “No, my lord, everyone can be killed.”

  232. zod,

I’m sorry, but I don’t see how the marketing team stole the idea from that fan art. It appears the fan art is focused on Arya and her list. Other than the obvious, of Arya standing in front with Needle, I see The Mountain, the Hound, Cersei, and Meryn Trant. There are other face, yes, but, still, I don’t see how what they did with the teaser was stolen from the fan art.

  233. teunteulai,

Well, that’s a point. If they can just have anybody and everybody’s faces in there, what was the point of the body washing and preparation?

  234. Newbietothegame,

A boomer that’s still watching but the end of this thing is turning into kind of a melodramatic mess – don’t know if I’ll be watching next week though I like Bobby C.

  235. Ginevra,

Yeah, well, I see that the word “stole” bothers a few people. So I guess, it’s actually my bad : I’m not a native speaker, and this might have been a poor choice of words. 😉

  236. zod,

Edit: Actually, I just saw your comment about your use of the word “stole,” so I deleted what I’d just posted which was arguing why it didn’t seem stolen, to me.

  237. Vinyl was…visually interesting, but somehow less interesting than watching my grandmother tatting lace.

Mostly, I hate the lead guy and hope he dies. Maybe GoT has made me bloodthirsty, but I am really, really hoping he dies.

  238. Deesensfan,

Not the actor, who seems to be fine. But the character who has all the emotional interest of a boiled potato and acts like a self-indulgent twat.

This watches like a male mid-life crisis project. “OoooOO, look at me, recapturing my youth by making a series about VINYL. I’m SOOSOsoosoSOoSoso hip.”

    No.

  239. I’m sure I’m echoing many on the thread (which I didn’t take the time to read tonight) when I say that the “teaser” was officially disappointing.

  240. aabe,

But is dead dead? Could it mean reborn for most of the characters rather than dead?

It could however mean an army of the living dead is needed to defeat the walking dead – like Jon, and perhaps Tyrion who may have drowned, not to mention all those iron islanders who have been literally drowned and revived for their God?

  241. Jack Bauer 24:
How many times have you watched the teaser? I can’t stop watching it!

Can you imagine those poor people who just, like, watch it only once, never slo-mo it, never pause it, never take a dozen screenshots, and never theorize for hours on what it could all mean?

  242. My husband said “That wasn’t a tease, it was a taunt”
On the other hand he loved the Bloodraven tease-who doesn’t love Max?

I obviously wanted more but I’m examining it and agree that it’s very Stark centric-which is awesome. I think Joffrey is the only one who spoke that wasn’t a Stark right? Ned, Robb, Cat, Joffrey then Jon. (also saw Stannis face right next to Jon) And then thankfully the main characters were also up there so no one took it as proof Jon was dead.

Anyway, now I’m wondering if that means anything. I feel like the Starks will definitely have a resurgence this year, but why Joffrey? Why not Tywin? Or Oberyn or Khal Drogo-since the Dothraki play a huge role this year.
Is it random and I’m reading too much into it? Probably. But this is what happens when you taunt me with death masks. 🙂

  243. I’m sorry but I have to say it. The demanding and entitlement attitudes that so many people on this site have is unreal. Can we all just remember that there are starving and sick people all over the world. Places where violence has no end and you people have the audacity to whine and complain and pout over having teasers and trailers for a show that will be on our tv’s April 24th. If you are finding yourself feeling personally abused by a network over their marketing decisions than it is clearly time for you to evaluate life and what is really important.

And by the way, OT- The Walking Dead was freakin’ amazing tonight. Glad to have gotten to see it and the GOT tease on the same day! Vikings returns this week… It’s good to have so many shows to look forward to the next couple of months!

  244. HotPinkLipstick,

Now I’m glad I didn’t watch. The behind-the-scenes on HBO GO made Vinyl look so interesting. I freaking love 70s music. But I thought that the preview had made the series seem a vapid waste of talent and people. Based on the comments here, the preview was spot on.

  245. My first reaction – the teaser was boring. But then I started to have this feeling, given all that the cast has said about Jon Snow: Season 6 is when Jon SNOWHEART is coming. Not alive, not dead. Something in-between and bent on revenge.

  246. Ginevra,

It’s Middle-Aged White Men Behaving Badly and we are supposed to find it cool and edgy. All of these random rock impersonators pop up like you’re watching a bad dubsmash. Just not good.

Olivia Wilde acted her ass off though.

  247. I wanted a real trailer and hoped for one even though they warned it was going to be a tease. This was still awesome anyway. I’m so freaking addicted to this show that I’ll take any little thing they feed me.

  248. Really?! With all due respect, some of the people posting here are complete and total babies. No one promised you anything more than a teaser, and that was exactly what this was. The temper tantrums over no new footage are a BIT over the top, no?

Given the fact that last season ended every storyline with a cliffhanger, any footage at all from Season 6 will be a spoiler. HBO and/or D&D are obviously trying to hold off on spoiling anything as long as they can, which is how a number of other shows- Mad Men and Breaking Bad most notably- handled things. Personally, I’d rather be surprised as much as I can be by the new season, so this doesn’t bother me at all. I’m sure they’ll probably give us a trailer at some point anyway, so please quit with the whining and bitching. Some of you couldn’t sound more spoiled and entitled if you tried. It’s rather nauseating, to be honest.

  249. whining and bitching about whining and bitching is just more whining and bitching, can we at least see some thoughts on the clip other than what u didnt get…damn whiners n bitches

  250. Angelique:
Lord. We all have our own opinions. Just respect them and move along.

This. The name calling and attempts at belittling fellow posters by flaunting self-perceived moral superiority in this thread is off the charts. Yeesh.

  251. Cersei’s Brain:
    Newbietothegame,

A boomer that’s still watching but the end of this thing is turning into kind of a melodramatic mess – don’t know if I’ll be watching next week though I like Bobby C.

It is Scorsese-stylish, but kinda empty. The ending ? Heavy-handed on the symbolism, to put it mildly. Still want to see where they are taking this.

My benchmark is *24 Hour Party People*. You can tell that story in 2 hours.

  252. Wow, so many of you seem to have completely missed – or maybe chosen to ignore – what this teaser is really telling us (or rather, telling the people who haven’t been reading WotW since the end of season 5). Besides the obvious ‘Valar morghulis’ theme (ie this is GoT where anyone can die at any time), the teaser is telling us that this will be the season where the Starks finally gets some revenge. THE NORTH REMEMBERS for crying out loud! That is why they show us Ned, Robb, Cat and Joffrey. Think about what they are saying, those words are not just chosen randomly. Would be foolish to think otherwise. The Starks will start to get some kind of revenge on the Lannisters, Freys and Boltons. Either through Sansa, Rickon+Umbers/Manderley/Karstarks, Jon or possibly even some version of LSH (even if this it not very likely). Its of course also coupled to the fate of Jon, where his words on the ‘long night’ together with the shot of Lightbringer in the Bran+Bloodraven teaser is pointing towards Azor Ahai.

This season will probably be very North- and Stark centric, with all the confirmed characters, flashbacks, and battles. I for one is loving it.

  253. Theres alot of people thinking that because certain living characters were shown that means they’re going to die. Thats not exactly the case. I do believe some will die. But nobodys safe ? but i think they’re just doing an overview of all the characters.

  254. jymion,

No, not likely. Arya has as far as we know for example never met or even seen Dany, Ygritte or Stannis. It would therefore be quite weird for their faces to show up in a dream of hers.

This is definitely not footage from an actual episode but rather just a clever and cool way of reminding people of some of the main characters (since there are ALOT of them on the show) and teasing what the new season will focus on.

And Im so glad to see and hear a glimps of Sean Bean as Ned again! That will be a small consolation to the probable disappointment of not seeing him in the ToJ.

  255. Firannion:
I wonder if anybody who worked on it was out of diapers in the mid-1970s.It’s like a cartoon version of the hippie era.

Based on the opening episode, I get the feeling that somebody at HBOsaid, “Hey! Let’s do something like ‘The Wolf of Wall Street,’ only set in the music business.Lots of drugs and decadence and ruthless business dealings and partying and materialism and crudeness.Maybe we can break its record for most frequent use of the F-word in three hours.” Well, I haven’t detested a movie in years nearly as much as ‘The Wolf of Wall Street,’ so this is one Boomer they’ve already lost.

Well, considering that the pilot episode was made by the exact same writer/director team that brought you The Wolf of Wall Street, you’re probably not going to like Vinyl very much. And, I’m guessing that both Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger were out of diapers in 1973, although how much either one remembers from back then is up for debate…

  256. And tease us, they did.

I see Sansa, Tyrion, Danearys, somebody I don’t recognize, Arya and Roose in that final shot.. HBO is just trying to mess with us. First show us everybody confirmed to be dead. Then the big questionmark and finally everybody we know are NOT dead.

All people at HBO must be called Snow, Sand or Rivers.
    Bastards..

  257. It was a very interesting concept…but the teaser itself was very underwhelming. I was hoping for some new footage, but nope. Maybe we can hope for something next Sunday before Girls?

  258. Jonathan Coldrain,

First off we have Ned, Robb, Cat and Joffrey, together with Tywin. Then Jon flanked by Stannis and Ygritte. In the last shot its Sansa, Tyrion, Dany, Cersei, Arya and Jamie. No Roose (or Mance like someone else suggested).

  259. RG,

All the lines are about who these people were when they were alive and as such represent what is e past”. What then is to come? What is interesting is Tyrion’s inclusion in the face of the dead. Are they telling us that Tyrion will die, that he has died already, (drowned at the bridge of the Stonemen and then revived – hinted at in the book and on the show) or that all men/and woman must die. As I have said before those who have died and been reborn will be a key to defending the realms of men. Just think a whole people have themselves drowned as part of their coming of age, of becoming iron men. Where and why did this practice arise and is the storm God also Winters King?

  260. Deesensfan,

I was a teenager in the 70’s. I watched Vinyl through to the end. meh. I had a hard time not seeing Ray Romano as Ray Romano and Andrew Dice Clay as Andrew Dice Clay, but I did like seeing Karsi again and I had been interested to see Mick Jagger’s son. I will watch the episodes to see what happens next, but don’t think I’ll be setting an alarm to catch them the minute they air.

  261. Am I the only one who loves this teaser?

    I find it exceedingly cool!

First it takes us through seasons 1-5 (Ned, Robb, Cat, Joffrey, Tywin, Jon, Stannis, Ygritte) and then it seems to be an outlook on season 6 and beyond.

The dead from seasons 1-5 talk, the characters who are yet alive don’t.

Valar Morghulis – the characters in the last shot will die eventually – (no surprise there :D) but the teaser does not tell us when. None of them talk so maybe that’s some consolation. I do not think the teaser means they all have to die in season 6.

The most fascinating part of the teaser (to me) is the way the characters are arranged.

Jon being between Stannis and Ygritte seems to indicate some geographical but maybe also thematical order. Stannis and Ygritte did play mayor roles in Jon’s plot arc and both tried to tempt him off his path as sworn protector of the realm.

Now the tantalizing question is: does that mean the six characters in the last shot are also arranged in thematical order?

    It would seem so.

Tyrion being placed between Sansa (his wife) and Dany (his queen) would fit. But – but – Arya between Cersei and Jaime? (if that’s Cersei and Jaime. I would not have recognized them, but now that Andreas Stark above has said it’s them I think he is right. And if he’s right then:) Wow!
    Just wow!

  262. wow, so many people on here blinded by their own sense of entitlement!

they said they would release a TEASER

    it was a teaser

  263. Well that was interesting! I like the concept and the fact that they keep the guessing game going. But of course people are already shitting all over themselves and complaining…when of course the trailer will arrive soon seeing the amount of time still left until the actual premiere of Season Six.

Sad to see that even the fandom of “Game Of Thrones” has become as predictable as everything else around characterized by professional outrage and complaining and trolls of all kind.

It used to be fun to be part of this community…

  264. Based on the reaction of the fandom, this was more of a bonerkill than a teaser. Good job, HBO – you managed to disappoint a fandom that gets excited by showing a crow cawing lol.

  265. Upon viewing the teaser again, I am pretty sure the point of it was to remind us of who died up till now (light shone on their faces), and then move on (light is dimmed) to the remaining important characters, as if to ask us ”who’s light is going to be dimmed next?”

    Pretty chilly.

  266. Am I the only one who actually enjoyed this teaser?

I think some people don’t understand the concept. What were they expecting or wanting? A 10 minute video with loads of scenes from season 6?

I’m happy to be teased and speculate until season 6 airs. It makes the lead up more enjoyable.

It’s a teaser, not a bloody hollywood trailer where you see all the best bits/plot before hand. Grow up, have patience and stop crying over it ffs.

  267. I guess it’s alright… but they should’ve done a lot better with their first teaser. It might be better than we thought if all these people will make an appearance in season 6 in the form of a vision, a flashback or something else 🙂 …. but I highly doubt it. We’re not seeing Jeoffrey or even Robb.

So what did we get?? A wall full of dead people… great, face palm

  268. Well, that was disappointing… I mean, don’t get me wrong, it was visually interesting, and good for what it was. It just seems too late for something like this. If it had been a month or two ago, I would have liked it fine.
We’ve already had 4 teasers. Did we really need another one?

And seriously people… we all have opinions. Whether you liked it or not, there’s no reason to jump down each others’ throats.

  269. George:
    http:// https://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=CG2p8uFylYY

For those who wanted a trailer tonight…The above one is only fan-made, but I think it’s pretty darn good, from editing, choice of music and the voiceovers…It’ll have to do for now.

I though this one is even better. Especially Shireen’s creepy song and Jon’s dialogue at the very end. They also use the same ticking clock as this official teaser.

  270. LastKiss,

It shouldn’t even be called a teaser as it shows literally nothing. Not even a fleeting glimpse at something new and s6-related.

  271. RosanaZugey,

If Jon had opened his eyes this would have been a brilliant teaser. Unfortunately it’s a turd. If this had been the first teaser we saw it would have been well received I think, but it’s a step backwards from the mini-teasers.

  272. Rocks fall, everybody dies! Confirmed?

Intriguing indeed. When Tyrion’s face showed up (amongst the dead) I grinned.

    Kinda mean of me.

  273. The other still living characters shown are: Jaime, Cersei, Arya, Sansa, Dany.

If they are all ment to die* (not neccessarily this season but within the story) the only one I would be surprised by is Sansa (bookwise) and Tyrion (showise).

    * Could also mean they are the six that are ment to/still have a chance to live. Then Cersei would be the big surprise here.

/sorry for the double but edit ran out

  274. crimethink,

To be resurrected one needs to be dead first. Jon’s dead at this moment in the show, so of course that’s how they’re going to market it. And that’s something they have actually been suspiciously overdoing since the end of s5 (never have they done something like that with any other dead character). Coupled with the fact they have been evading the issue of resurrection in his case, only talking about his current state, they’ve been making Jon’s return increasingly obvious. They’ve ruined their plot twist. It’s weird there are people who still question the whole ‘dead or alive’ thing when it’s never been about that, it’s been about ‘perma dead and temporarily dead’.

  275. Worse than expected: no new footage, only one location. But still intriguing! When Jon’s face popped up, I was shortly shocked, then felt confirmed that this was going to happen in a teaser anyway and then had to re-watch a few times to register that there is not only Tyrion, but Sansa, Arya and other living main characters. This was kind of cool.

But the question remains what’s going to happen? No clue.

  276. still… kind of *yawn*

I remember last year watching the trailer(s) over and over again. This year, the teasers are just not that exciting. An this is not because of the lacking new footage.

The trailer of season five included not much footage, that made things obvious, but the David Bowie song made it really enjoyable.

  277. Nero Martell:

That’s because these are not trailers. They will come. Why are people in such a hurry to see them? They’ll arrive when HBO think it is time.

You’d think they delayed the actual show from some of the comments here.

  278. 3 x teasers, new / old character voice overs, S6 Photos all building up to the new series – GoT are the best at this.

  279. HotPinkLipstick:
    Lulus Mum,

Uhm…Jaime killed Dany’s father. So that’s a connection. But I don’t think they were ordered for connection. I think they were ordered for shock value.

    Pigeon,

Most definitely Nikolaj’s nose and jaw. I have studied that face for…longer than I care to admit.

I recognized everyone was mentioned so far (some of them after they had been pointed out by other fans), except for Davos.

  280. HotPinkLipstick:
    Lulus Mum,

Uhm…Jaime killed Dany’s father. So that’s a connection. But I don’t think they were ordered for connection. I think they were ordered for shock value.

Oh yeah of course! *facepalms* For some reason I never think of the guy he killed and her father as being the same person even though I know they are. I think it’s because we’ve never seen him, I don’t have an image of him in my mind when he’s mentioned. Someone suggested that the faces are all connected to the adjacent ones, which certainly seems true for some of them, especially if you are paying more attention than I am! 😉

  281. jon,

I saw that awhile back. He said “I’d like to put myself into a wolf.” Then Dan says “season six.” I’m pretty sure it was just a joke. Kit and John were asked if they had the abilities who they’d warg or something right? The reaction to me was not one of oops I slipped up and gave something away but more just laughing about the way it was worded. I don’t think Dan would have made that comment if it were a true spoiler.

  282. Ive read through the comments here, so many good ideas and thoughts in breaking down this teaser. However i really don’t think HBO will release much new footage. Last seasons cliffhanger with Jon Snow being stabbed to death got everyone talking. Many people believe he will be bought back to life. if this is the case HBO will do everything not to show a glimpse of Jon Snow alive. You may all be waiting for just another teaser like this one. I’m happy waiting to watch the new season 🙂

  283. GOT follower,

They don’t need to show nothing about Jon’s fate. He is just 10% of the story. They can show a bit of stories that still are in the books, just to keep the hype.

  284. Firannion,

I’m very sorry if it is exagerated. I’m European, so I’ll be able to watch Vinyl only this evening, in my country HBO shows on Mondays what the Americans watch on Sundays. I was really looking forward to watching Vinyl. In 1973 I was in kindergarten and I’m fascinated by the 60ies and 70ies.
Thank you so much for the warning, I won’t expect that much, just looking forward to see Birgitte.

  285. What the hell is wrong with the GoT marketing dept? This teaser was unreasonably superficial. It’s Season 6 for the biggest (?) TV show out there… Give us something to be excited about, is that so hard? The flag teasers were better than this. The budget must leave practically no money left for promotion, which makes sense but still a teaser should create buzz not frustration and boredom.

  286. That’s certainly a tease!

There’s something really eerie about familiar faces without their hair/colouring/accessories. Jon’s was a little less spooky–the shadows just looked like a bigger mop of hair! 🙂

  287. Andreas Stark:
This season will probably be very North- and Stark centric, with all the confirmed characters, flashbacks, and battles. I for one is loving it.

Okay, so I got really excited by this until I looked up the lines. I should have known when I reached a “possibly” LSH to pay no heed, but I missed that on my first skim. Here is what is said:

The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword. –Eddard Stark

I’ve won every battle, but I’m losing this war. –Robb Stark

Show them how it feels to lose what they love. –Catelyn Stark

Everyone is mine to torment. –Joffrey

The Long Night is coming, and the dead come with it. –Jon Snow

Besides Jon’s line, I don’t think that any of these are necessarily foreshadowing anything new, anything we’ve not been told before. Robb lost the war for certain when his head was removed from his body – no foreshadowing necessary. I doubt there will be any sentences when Arya exacts her Needle. Rather, these first four are iconic lines to help us immediately identify the characters to whom they belong. Catelyn was always bitching about revenge.

  288. The official Twitter announcement for the teaser said ‘prepare to be teased’ … where is the bit that is supposed to tease me? old dialogue , known faces and known location , where is the bit that is supposed to tease me?

No doubt a first world problem but this ‘teaser’ is a severe let down IMHO ( sorry if that offends any of the white knights on here)

  289. smitzzz,

I think we’re supposed to be teased that Tyrion, Dany, Sansa, Arya (and Jaime and Cersei?) are about to be as dead as the others. I admit that I was fooled for a few seconds.

a : to disturb or annoy by persistent irritating or provoking especially in a petty or mischievous way
b : to annoy with petty persistent requests : pester; also : to obtain by repeated coaxing
c : to persuade to acquiesce especially by persistent small efforts : coax
d : to manipulate or influence as if by teasing
e : to make fun of : kid

  290. smitzzz:
The official Twitter announcement for the teaser said ‘prepare to be teased’ … where is the bit that is supposed to tease me?

It put something GOT-related back on the TV. For people who aren’t already thinking about Season 6, it reminds them about that really cool show they like and makes them wonder what’s coming next. For people for whom Thrones is always on the mind, it dangles the carrot: what do the lines mean? What faces are hanging up? Who’s dying next? What’s the Long Night going to bring?

I would have loved new material–who wouldn’t?!–but it was nice to see something Thrones again. Now I’m that much more eager and excited for the trailer!

  291. Shy Lady Dragon,

I liked this trailer too, it was atmospheric and eerie. It gets you dreading, who will be the next to go out of the big six remaining, since its not likely all of them will make it to the end. Even though it may not be this season. I don’t want to see any of those six die, maybe only Cersei if somebody had to!
Besides, love all the focus on the Starks. This is the second teaser to focus on all the dead Starks. Hinting at some long awaited Stark revenge this season maybe.

    Ginevra,

Yeah, I think those lines were picked because they best describe that particular character and their journey, and they do not really foreshadow anything (except maybe Jon).

  292. How is “The long night is coming, and the dead come with it” not foreshadowing a revival for J-Snow?

  293. Why are people mad that people are unsatisfied? Yes, I completely understand that expecting the trailer when it is called a ‘teaser’ would annoy people. However, this is a step back from what has already been released.
Don’t get me wrong, it is very cool. But after those 20 new photos and previous teasers with actual season 6 voice overs, it is understandable that people would be disappointed with this. After those 20 pictures, it is anti-climatic.
Last year there was a trailer at the end of January. Even Outlander which is released about 2 weeks before GoT has had 2 trailers out ( a teaser of trailer material and then the official trailer).

  294. I had little to no expectations for the teaser, so I can’t say I was disappointed. Cool little thing, but def hoping for more soon. Trying to stay away from seeing too much before the season actually airs this year, but one trailer isn’t gonna hurt anyone 🙂

  295. Oh my, here they are. The complainers that want to shame fans because they are disappointed. Look, if you want to contemplate the meaning of life, discuss world hunger or raging wars find a forum where it is discussed. This is THE GoT fan site where we discuss GoT.
If folks are disappointed by the teaser, they have a right to voice their opinion.
Some liked it, some did not.
Now let’s all join hands and sing Kumbaja.

  296. For all I know HBO could have not release any trailer with actual new footage from season 6 until the release date at all and it will still be ok because those unsullied will still going to be high on hype. Do you read those youtube comments on the official teaser? Most of them are hyping high.

  297. aabe,

Well read that was my taking as well, if you think about it d&d want to create as much tension as poss, you have to remember winter is coming and no one is safe. See emergancyawsome on youtube he does good trailer breakdowns.

  298. bransnow,

I know, all the people complaining about people complaining are worse than the original complainers. This is the place to air opinion whether positive or negative. All they do is pile up on that and cause negativity.

  299. Ginevra,

Im not saying that LSH herself will be in the show, that is (as I pointed out) highly unlikely. But I dont think its a longshot to suggest that some of her storylines will be adopted by other characters. Perhaps Sansa or Arya. We already know that we will be spending time in the Riverlands with Freys and outlaws.

Regarding the spoken words I am very well aware that they are actual quotes from previous seasons. I dont mean they are foreshadowing any single events for the new season (except maybe Jon), but collectively they are pointing towards Stark revenge. In the Riverlands as well as in the North.

The North remembers, ser Davos. The North remembers!

  300. YgriTte,

It is a foreshadowing because his return is most likely connected to a prophecy related to the long night. Hence, the line “the long night is coming and the dead with it” seems to be a hint of his own return. But this is just speculation based on book knowledge. For somebody who has not read the books, those words may not mean anything.

  301. Just watched it again a few times
    Its sooo good.
    Its sooo creepy

The general comments on youtube are people loving it and genuinely creeped out by it.

  302. I think when Jon says the dead come with this is kind of glimpse into the future if the white walkers fully take over just my thoughts though

  303. So how many meta-levels of complaining about the complainers complaining about the complainers complaining must I aspire to, before I start to levitate and perhaps eventually achieve Nirvana? Or pass through a wormhole in the space/time continuum and proceed to exist simultaneously on every plane of the endless number of possible multiverses? Must I first expiate all the bad karma from my past lives with one whopping great migraine? I’ve got a better idea: I think I’ll go take a nap.

  304. Deesensfan,

Like I said, I don’t think many people dislike the teaser, it’s a good teaser.
    It’s just that….we really WANT/NEED a good long trailer…

  305. FACTS about this teaser:

    1) Faces of dead characters appears in other of death: Ed, Rob, Catherine Stark, Joffrey. I couldn’t recognize who is by Joffrey side, but I’m pretty sure it’s another character, probably another “dead” one.
    2) Then Jon Snow appears, and we still can not be sure if he’s dead or alive, because he appears between the dead, and what comes next, the alive characters. On Jon’s, right we see Ygritte and another character that I couldn’t recognize too. It would make sense if it’s a alive one (Jon between life and death).
    3) Then we see alive characters. Tyrion is in the center. I don’t believe he is the next to die or something like this, but I guess it should means he’s in great danger. All of them are in danger. Up to Tyrion it looks like Sam, but I’m not sure. At his left, Sansa. On his right, Danny. Down: Arya. Down left: Cersei. Down right: Jamie (I’m not sure, but looks like him, the beard confuses me).
Could you people recognize those ones I could not?

  306. ghost of winterfell,

I know about the basic prophecy in the book, and who is said to return during another Long night, and I truly hope that is what will happen here. Is there anything else to it that unsullied would not know from reading the basic book spoilers presented thus far regarding the theory? I’m anxious for any little detail if you wouldn’t mind 🙂

  307. Mihnea:
    Deesensfan,

Like I said, I don’t think many people dislike the teaser, it’s a good teaser.
    It’s just that….we really WANT/NEED a good long trailer…

Exactly. The teaser as a teaser is great, but it’s really not the time for anything like that. We’re only 2 months away from the premiere and it’s time for some actual footage from S6. Even a real 20-second teaser would do instead of what we got today.

  308. <a href="#comment-520772" rel
    Shy Lady Dragon,

Well, I copied and pasted just the link to click on but I see the whole video got posted. Weird, that’s never happened for me before. Sorry bout’ that.

They’ve gone much further than merely stating he’s dead, and they’ve pretty strongly ruled out resurrection in any form. (Where “they” is Kit, D&D, and HBO) I won’t rehash the evidence because it’s off topic. It’s possible they’re all just lying for some unknown reason, despite the fact that saying he’s dead and staying dead actually DECREASES the suspense factor and interest in the show. Why they would throw away their credibility for no reason, I can’t imagine. If it turns out that Jon does resurrect, then nobody will pay attention to what these people say during the next offseason.

  310. Good job WotW for reporting the “tease” appropriately

Everyone who got their hopes up waiting anxiously for the mother of all trailers… *snark* You should have gone to see Deadpool instead.
I got exactly what I expected… “Chaos is a Ladder” Pt. 2, very interesting, something for people that DON’T think about ASOIAF and GoT 24/7, not designed for me.

I repeat, go see Deadpool peeps, lost of boobs, dysfunction and gore… it was still a good Valentine’s Day for me and the hubby…

  311. For me, the HoB&W teaser simply serves as a reminder of some of the eerie and horrific elements of this tale, while prepping us for the coming trailer(s). I wish it would have ended with a zoom-out from Arya’s blind eyes. 🙂

In any case, I still get a kick out of the Apple TV “Future of Television” ad that shows several clips of GoT, including the zoom-in shot of the Night’s King overlooking Jon’s actions and the Hardhome battle. That shot, and the quirky music in the background, inspires me every time…one can only wonder what is going on in his mind’s eye. Although indirect, that Apple TV ad is the best tease ever!

  312. ladywolfsbane,

Not a fan of boobs or gore (I know, don’t say it lol) A bit of dysfunction, eh sure. Deadpool was a thought but hubby doesn’t care for the genre so we saw Daddy’s home.

  313. Personally I would have released this teaser in December and the December one now. I bet there wouldn’t be nearly so much complaining if that was the way they had done it.

I think it’s disappointing some people because it is a bit of an anticlimax after the fantastic photos we saw last week. I think we’ll get a full trailer in a couple of weeks time as that will be two months until the première. They’ll then release another one a month before the première. Then it is spread out evenly.

  314. bransnow,

If your a book reader Outlander gave a lot in those trailers.
Love the fashion of that show.

As for our tease I liked it, and now I’ll wait.

  315. ladywolfsbane: go see Deadpool

Loved the attitude of Deadpool…it’s fun and adapts the spirit of the comic book excellently. I am surprised at how popular it is out of the gate. Très cool. I enjoy those offbeat superhero films like Kick Ass and Unbreakable as well.

The 24th will be 2 months until the premeire and that is in 8 days, so basically a week.

  317. After watching this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N43vUqxjeEY I have concluded that HBO and D&D are really effing with the fans. Obviously they want some retribution to all the leaks that have gotten out but also they want us to really question whether JS is coming back. I honestly feel like this is a NEMO moment (kinda sort of) where we are being played big time as to the reality of the whole show. Like the characters are really ALL DEAD MEN anyway and this is just the House of Black and White telling the story ….. It seems that they have all the faces of the dead from beginning of time? So how are they NOT recording all the history as well? I just find this a very interesting slant on who is REALLY telling the story here? We THINK it’s the POV of the main characters … but is it really? Maybe not… what say all of you???

  318. ghost of winterfell,

The two are connected, yes, but I don’t think the Long Night will begin until the end of this season, at the earliest. And Snow is coming back in Episode 1, if Luka is right, which I think he is. The Long Night will come when the Wall falls, releasing the dead wights and Others into Westeros. And with it comes semi-permanent darkness, as the name implies. I don’t think we’ll see that until well after Jon’s resurrection. But I agree that the line in this teaser is also a nod to the coming resurrection.

  319. And…. I am sorry for asking this for all of you in the “know” but how do you get a picture for your account? Kinda clueless obviously….. smh…. embarrassing moment… but maybe others don’t know either so you can educate us who are NOT in the “know”… Thanks!!

Yeah I agree , this just wasn’t in any way a proper teaser considering how close it is to April, what exactly was it supposed to tease? the fact that no character is safe and can die at any time? that is something the show has been running with since episode 9 of the first season when Ned got the chop so it isn’t anything new , they might have well just run a 30 second ”teaser” showing nothing but a black screen with GoT season 6 04/24/16 written on top in felt tip :/

  321. YgriTte,

On youtube there is a channel called Alt Shift X that talks about popular GoT theories, if you want to know more about the prophecy watch his Azor Ahai video. He explains things very well.

  322. YgriTte,

In relation to Jon? No not really. The only hints with relation to him are

Mel’s vision, “I pray for a glimpse of Azor Ahai and r’hllor shows me only Snow”. And Jon has a dream where he is wielding a fiery sword. These are the only hints for Jon being AA.

    Ginevra,

Hmm yes, he will be resurrected within the first couple of episodes, IMO. The prophecy says that

after the long summer, when the cold breath of darkness falls heavy on the world, in that dread hour AAR shall draw a burning sword from the fire, not that he will be reborn then. So his resurrection could and most probably will happen before the long night.

. But then again I don’t think these prophecies will happen exactly the way we are told, so who knows. At the very least Jon definitely seems connected with that prophecy.

  323. “Well, may I ask what you were expecting to see from a Game of Thrones Teaser? Sydney Opera House? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically across the plain?”

    😉

  324. crimethink: The other gun has only been accomplished by one person who’s nowhere near the Wall, and it’s not clear whether it’s transferable.

And yet the gun still has been hung. The storytellers are obliged to show us something is possible before it becomes important. If the audience sees it again, then they will recognize what has happened, particularly if the show includes that in the “previously on Game of Thrones” trailer at the outset. (Obviously, after three years, most of the audience has forgotten the details of Season 3.) Nobody will start asking: “Wait: how did someone other than the Jethro Tull Priest do that?” It’s now been shown to be something that clergy of that order can do.

  325. iridium: if one believes

The problem I have with this conjecture is that no way do the books suggest that warging is different for

those of Valyrian descent in general or for Targaryens in particular.

And that is the gun that would have to be hung in both book and show if these two conjectures are going to be united: at least if they were going to tell the story well! (Yes, I know that some people like arbitrary twists: but most people do not, and shows/books get criticized for doing this sort of thing.)

The same problem applies to the conjecture that the Old Gods will somehow assist in this. Both show and books have given us a taste for what the Old Gods can do: but those are very different guns that have been hung.

At any rate, if Jon is the son of who we think he is, then this really does not make him any more “magical” than normal people: it might make him a little more tolerant of very hot baths, but that is about it. It is, however, going to greatly change Jon’s perspective on life and make him appreciate even more what can be at stake when someone is stuck in a moral paradox!

  326. Masterofthrones: The man who made the tease. Tonight he talks about it, but I don’t know if it is available online.

But… but… he isn’t involved in the production of the show!!!!

    😀

  327. I had to stop reading these comments….while it did take some time, cooler heads from time to time have emerged. In this day of instant gratification nation, it might be useful to consider that just a short 20 years ago there were no trailers at all, no teasers. At the movie theater you might see one for something you were interested in, but that was it. Other than that….read the book. And we are talking about 8 weeks or so here…..after waiting 8 months or so…..how long have book readers been waiting for Book 6? 6 years now? Maybe that has taught a bit of patience. And remember… GRRM, D & D nor HBO doesn’t
“owe” anything to anyone. I believe they try to write, produce and show the best program on the television that has ever been and hopefully will ever be.

I thought the “tease” was fine. I also do find it interesting that Wimsey wrote the target audience of GoT’s is 30, 40 – 50 while online polls have proven that the average age of the show watcher who is also on Twitter/Facebook/Intagram/Reddit is below 25, many below 18. For me, that explains a lot about how people are reacting.

  328. YgriTte: I know about the basic prophecy in the book, and who is said to return during another Long night, and I truly hope that is what will happen here.

We know very little about the prophecy from the books, as we have gotten only snippets. The parts that we have read apply best to Daeny. However, we also get indications in the book that the prophecy applies to three people, not to just one. That in itself has been a source of debate among fans: but those fans who are looking for a trinity usually think that it will be Daeny, Jon and X. It seems to me that the most popular X is Tyrion (although I never have tried to count!), but Bran, Arya, Aegon, Jaime, etc., all have had advocates. (The conjecture that Tyrion is Daeny’s half brother is inspired in part by this.)

  329. So first people were complaining.
Then people started complaining of people complaining.
Then people started complaining of people complaining of people complaining.
Cann I start the 4th wave and say I hate people who complain from people who complain from people who complain? How dare you fill the internet with negativity? Find another site, blablablablabla.

  330. Ser Not Appearing in this Series: Well, may I ask what you were expecting to see from a Game of Thrones Teaser? Sydney Opera House? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically across the plain?”

Nah … but a plume of dragon smoke from the darkness or the menacing sound of a pack of snarling wolves at the end might have been interesting.

  331. Shy Lady Dragon,

I understand your disappointment I was looking forward to new footage myself but I believe a badass trailer will be out soon and I agree with you on the message they are putting across anyone can die,I only watched it once as it didn’t really excite me as I’m looking forward to the trailer and the premiere is just around the corner.

  332. JCDavis: I also do find it interesting that Wimsey wrote the target audience of GoT’s is 30, 40 – 50

Just to clarify, I was referring to the audience being targeted by this teaser. What I cited above is based on HBO’s numbers on the audience demographics for Thrones and other HBO series, at least of 2-3 years ago. In part, this is just economic demographics: HBO is moderately expensive, and therefore a disproportionate number of the people who subscribe to it are professionals in their 30s, 40s and 50s.

This obviously does not include the audience that watches the show through means other than HBO. (Obviously HBO is well aware of them: but as they do not give HBO money, HBO also is not pandering to them!) And that audience is going to be disproportionately skewed towards the younger age groups. Also, teens and 20-somethings are much more apt to participate in Twitter/Facebook/etc. than are 40 & 50 somethings!

Cutting to the chase, the two sets of numbers in no way contradict each other.

  333. Ginevra,

I like to think that Ned’s phrase foreshadows that in the northern storyline a sentence will be passed and a sword will be swung, preferably in Winterfell and hopefully to separate Ramsay’s sweet little head from his sweet little neck. Can I get a Hallelujah?

Also totally random thought. We never heard Sansa utter her House words before. I think it would be a nice touch to show her growing into her identity as a Stark by making her say them, maybe in a speech to motivate the northern Lords or something. Also I want Sanosha (in a Mophie kinda way) 🙂

  334. Ice Spider,

I doubt there was any serious intent to imply that the events we’re witnessing are really just the stories of people who have ended up as faces in the House of Black and White, or anything meta like that.

But they might have considered it as the sort of thing fan forums and people on the internet would pick up on and ponder, for fun.

I doubt we’ll get to the end of the series and have a Dallas-style, Bobby Ewing in the shower moment though.

Back in the 80’s there was another show called St Elsewhere, about the goings on at a fictional American hospital. It ran for years and then in the final episode one of the characters watched his mute, autistic son, Tommy Westphall, playing with a snowglobe containing a model of the hospital and wondered what his son thought about all day long.

Fans of the show took this to suggest that the events in the show had all been figments of Tommy’s imagination as he stared at the hospital in the snowglobe, and they came up with theories as to what other events and TV shows might all have been a figment of Tommy Westphall’s imagination, due to them featuring in or being referenced in St Elsewhere.

Anyway, I doubt the GoT producers will do anything as blatant as that. This teaser probably wasn’t meant to imply anything significant about the Faceless Men or the House of Black and White and their relationship to all the characters and events, but they might have hoped that people would pick up on it and have fun pondering such theories.

  335. Steff,

I thought so as well any thoughts to who’s on his left bc if they put her to his right why not put someone to his left other than to confuse

  336. Wylie: I like to think that Ned’s phrase foreshadows that in the northern storyline

I would not count on it meaning anything. The guy who edited the teaser has nothing to do with the production of the show: he probably knows less about what is going to happen this season than we do!

  337. YgriTte,

Hi, my wild friend! Impressive, indeed! Very violent and sad, but the message still is “you are not alone”. Fortunately, many characters are lucky enough not to be alone (even for some time) when the night is dark and full of horrors.
I’ve been thinking at the teaser. Jon is between the dead and the living, as so many have stated above. I don’t think he will be changed into something horrible, remember Beric Dondarion, for 6 times resurrected by Thoros of Myr. He looked alive and behaved normally, he just felt that there were bits of himself lost. Maybe Jon will be less trustworthy and compasionate, but still not a cruel person.

  338. It just seems odd to bother with this “teaser” at all. The first one with Bran’s voice over was great. It set the same tone but we had a character to connect with. They should have just held out to the proper trailer, closer to the premiere date.

  339. Ice Spider:
    JCDavis,

    It isn’t working… I have a MAC… is that the reason?

I don’t know. That is how I set mine. Sorry you are having issues, but if you go to the information bar across the top you will see a place to write to the “moderators” and they will be happy to help you figure it out. 🙂

    Wimsey

    Okay, that makes more sense.

For those complaining of the complainers who are complaining about being a complainer who just wants to complain….have away, it is a free website and internet. But I have to say, it does get tiring to read, post after post by the hundreds of discontent. *shrugs* It won’t change a thing to say something about it….haters gonna hate and lovers gonna love.

It will be great to get a clear breakdown with arrows showing each face close up and how they are identified.

  340. Wimsey: I would not count on it meaning anything. The guy who edited the teaser has nothing to do with the production of the show: he probably knows less about what is going to happen this season than we do!

That makes no sense – it smacks of a disjointed, disorganized, haphazard process, and I don’t believe that’s happening at HBO for this show. Do you really think the marketing department does not answer to or take direction from the producers? I don’t. I’ll let Judiblatt further the discourse:

Judibatt: And to those of you who think D&D have no control over spoilers or trailers… you are fooling yourselves. They mentioned in the past how tightly controlled most info is, especially leading up to the stabbing.

D&D sign off on what goes out and they only let themselves and two other writers in the script writing room. You REALLY think they are going to trust some ad-nerd to put forth their vision to the world for the first time.

  341. All that aside, did any one watch Vinyl? I did and I found it interesting. A bit busy for a first episode, lot’s going on. So it is worth a second watch to see if it all starts to fall into place and make more sense. It was very gritty and very realistic of how some circumstances really did happen in the 70’s. I love Bobby Cannavale and he was good in this as well. Birgritte was pretty back-ground this first episode, I do hope she gets more screen time. She is lovely. So for now, the jury is still out and I am willing to really enjoy the show.

  342. After viewing this roughly 500 times, my only real complaint is the inclusion of Joffrey. For one, his face looks least like the actor and most importantly, without him it would have been all Starks and you could kind of build a little narrative around Jon, based on the quotes (Jon swung the sword with Janos Slynt, He might be surviving battles here and there, but he’s losing the big war against the others, he’s lost everyone he’s loved other than Sam up to this point (at least as far as he knows)

    Hrmph, Joffrey always ruining everything!

I love this tease a lot. Yes, I am amongst those who can’t wait to see new footage but this combined with the photo dump from Thursday is good for this week.

I am wondering if we might get an IMAX announcement this week? I don’t know about you guys but the promise of the new trailer was the main reason I went to the previous IMAX showing. Of course the trailer was released online before I even left for the show. 😛

  343. OT, for those who care… I just saw that Nikolaj is going to be on Jimmy Kimmel and Carice will be on Seth Meyers this Thursday (2/18). Obviously he’s promoting Gods of Egypt but it doesn’t say what she’s on for. GoT? Might we get a S6 clip? Or Brimstone promotion would be awesome.

  344. Wimsey,

That‘s why I said, „I like“ to think. I’m not a native speaker, but maybe I should have made it clearer that it is not meant literally or added a winky smiley or something.

But that aside, I really don’t think it’s possible that marketing doesn’t know what’s happening this season. I am quite certain that the creatives or a representative and marketing have at least one meeting early on where they discuss the general direction, vibe, key visuals and maybe highlights etc. of the upcoming season. Not least to tell them what not to show, otherwise you might end up with a trailer with lots of footage of Jon Snow being alive. Obviously that’s not gonna happen. You can run a general GoT campaign, sure, but remember how specific those Battle Banner Teasers were. They tease the three central conflicts. Of course someone planned that and that someone had to know what’s happening. (Maybe they get to read the 130-or-so pages summary of the season).

  345. JCDavis:

I watched the whole thing and I was mildly disappointed but I am going to give it a few more episodes before I throw in the towel. I kind of came to the realization last night that I’m just not the biggest Martin Scorsese fan. The only movie of his I ever really loved was Goodfellas (and The Last Waltz, if we’re counting concert films).

  346. JCDavis: I believe they try to write, produce and show the best program on the television that has ever been and hopefully will ever be.

I might agree on the best show currently on and maybe even the best show that’s ever been – but I must disagree to hoping that it’s the best show that ever will be. I plan on a vital, productive old age with lots more tv watching, and I want programming to get better with time. I’ll save a seat for you.

See, there, that’s my attempt at being positive this morning. How many more weeks?

  347. See, there, that’s my attempt at being positive this morning. How many more weeks?

Well…you don’t have too long to save that seat for I am afraid. I am already looking down the short window I do think. But that said, you are right, I might be a tad short on looking for new opportunities. I am REALLY hoping that Hollywood or someone like HBO would take on the great Fantasy novels. McCaffrey, Donaldson, Zelazny, Pratchett, Jordan, Hobb, Eddings, Tad Williams, Guy Kay….and more and of course depending on who one likes, the ones listed above are debatable, just my personal favorites that haven’t already been taken from book to film. So that should ensure a bright future for you whipper snappers…now… get off my lawn! 😛

  348. JCDavis,

Love Bobby C but being a boomer and having lived through the drug fueled rock times, found the show somewhat tiring and over the top. I did like the music but wanted more of that and less histrionics. Will watch next week and then decide if I want to continue.

  349. The more I watched the tease, the more I liked it and I loved it initially. It really is all about atmosphere and theme. It’s not something that should be taken literally as in, the Faceless Men actually HAVE all of those faces. That just makes me roll my eyes.

This promo is creepy and weird and eerie and really gives the vibe for the season. More death! But what is death? And how permanent is it? Because JON SNU!

Yes I want a trailer, but I also feel more excited about the season that I did before. Has anyone identified all of the other faces shown? How clear was the image? Is GRRM one of them? D&D? Because that would be hilarious.

  350. The Daredevil trailer today (with a part 2 coming in a couple of weeks) is the right way you should tease your audience, not the crap we got yesterday.

  351. Thronetender: Do you really think the marketing department does not answer to or take direction from the producers?

Yes, I do. One, producers do not have time for this. Two, marketers think that producers know nothing about marketing. (And they probably are correct.)

Show and movie producers frequently complain about what marketers do. This came to some attention 15 year ago when Peter Jackson & Co. were so appalled at the first trailer for Lord of the Rings that they took the very unorthodox move of trying to take control over future trailers. And they succeeded: but only because New Line was a small, “friendly” company on this scale of things, and because (supposedly) the New Line person working most closely with Jackson also hated the trailer!

But one thing that came out in this was that: 1) a lot of producers did not like what marketers produce, and 2) marketers evidently think that producers have no idea what would make a good trailer! As all of the companies still have separate marketing departments, it would seem that the people on top concur with the marketers.

  352. Gregorio: Of course they owe us.

Yes, they do. They owe us a show. They owe us 10 episodes that tell a coherent story and contribute to a larger story.

They do not owe us anything beyond that. Because, in the end, everything else is not even icing on the cake: it’s decoration on the bag in which you put the box that has the cake inside.

  353. Shy Lady Dragon: Unbreakable….Samuel L. Jackson

“Now that we know who you are, I know who I am. I’m not a mistake! It all makes sense! In a comic, you know how you can tell who the arch-villain’s going to be? He’s the exact opposite of the hero. And most times they’re friends, like you and me! I should’ve known way back when… You know why, David? Because of the kids. They called me Mr Glass.”

    🙂

  354. JCDavis: Well…you don’t have too long to save that seat for I am afraid. I am already looking down the short window I do think. But that said, you are right, I might be a tad short on looking for new opportunities.I am REALLY hoping that Hollywood or someone like HBO would take on the great Fantasy novels.McCaffrey, Donaldson, Zelazny, Pratchett, Jordan, Hobb, Eddings, Tad Williams, Guy Kay….and more and of course depending on who one likes, the ones listed above are debatable, just my personal favorites that haven’t already been taken from book to film.So that should ensure a bright future for you whipper snappers…now…get off my lawn!

    Cough, Joe Abercrombie, cough cough.

  355. Wylie: But that aside, I really don’t think it’s possible that marketing doesn’t know what’s happening this season.

At some point, they must be told something. That was evident last year, when the first trailer used the David Bowie song “Heroes” (and a dark brooding version, as well!). The odds of them accidentally choosing a song that sings such a similar story to the Crows/Dragons “put aside the child & become the adult” story is just too astronomically (or should that be quantum physically?) low for it to have been a coincidence.

However, there are two stories here: the Winter story, and the over-arching Song of Ice and Fire story. We don’t know what the Winter story is, but at this point we should have a damned good idea of what the over-arching story is. This teaser seems to speak to the over-arching story, and not the Winter story.

(And, yes: I am still betting that the Winter story is going to be about the compromises needed to get people that don’t want to follow you to do so; however, that is just a conjecture!)

  356. HotPinkLipstick:
Has anyone identified all of the other faces shown? How clear was the image? Is GRRM one of them? D&D? Because that would be hilarious.

That would be something. There were a few post up the thread about who is located where.
I would like to see stills. My old eyes don’t work that well anymore.

  357. JCDavis: So that should ensure a bright future for you whipper snappers…now… get off my lawn!

My personal complaint is that things cost too much.

Seriously, I think that the ones with the best chances are those that are the character-driven ones, such as Donaldson’s or Rothfus’. The Tolkien knockoffs have less of a chance. My wife and I have been torturing ourselves by watching the Chronicles of Shannara (please make us stop!). Like so many fantasy stories, it is just cliché after cliché.

Indeed, it reminded me of one thing that I really like about Game of Thrones. Do you realize that we’ve had 5 seasons/volumes and not a single quest to find some relict or to deliver some relict to some place? Most fantasy books are quest after quest after quest to get to Place A to find Object B or to get Object Y to place Z: but the closest thing we have to that is Bran answering a summons. And you could get the same thing in non-fantasy by having someone trying to track down the source of a mysterious letter or email!

(I often think that Knight was not entirely wrong in his warning about books with maps on the inset….. 😀 )

  358. JCDavis:
I thought the “tease” was fine.I also do find it interesting that Wimsey wrote the target audience of GoT’s is 30, 40 – 50 while online polls have proven that the average age of the show watcher who is also on Twitter/Facebook/Intagram/Reddit is below 25, many below 18. For me, that explains a lot about how people are reacting.

As a statistician (well, mathematician who teaches statistics), all online polls are flawed – even IMDb, which I cite a lot, I know – because they don’t get a truly (or even closely) random sample of the entire population. They are volunteer samples (which is bad) because only people who are willing and eager will take them. And, most importantly, only the people who are online and on that particular site and following that particular GoT polling group will have a chance to even see the poll – not the least bit random. So I would not say online polls prove anything beyond the demographics of those taking the polls, which is only a small subset of the entire GoT viewers.

Ill watch it next week for sure

    I love Bobby C

  364. Ginevra,

Ok…baby steps… now how do I use it for here? Ugh… sorry not the smartest user of computers… oh.. I guess it worked… lol oops

  365. Newbietothegame: HotPinkLipstick:
Has anyone identified all of the other faces shown? How clear was the image? Is GRRM one of them? D&D? Because that would be hilarious.

That would be something. There were a few post up the thread about who is located where.
I would like to see stills. My old eyes don’t work that well anymore.

Nor mine, but at the beginning of the piece, there was a scan of an entire wall of other faces, just before they zeroed in on Ned’s. I found myself wondering if we would see other familiar faces on that big wall if we were inclined to look closely. I haven’t the eyesight or machinery to zero in that closely, but maybe one of you could take a look for the heck of it and see if there are other faces we recognize up there.

Ser Not Appearing in this Series: I am REALLY hoping that Hollywood or someone like HBO would take on the great Fantasy novels.McCaffrey, Donaldson, Zelazny, Pratchett, Jordan, Hobb, Eddings, Tad Williams, Guy Kay….

Whoa, thank you J C Davis. You left a treasure trove of names there to investigate – and since I find your posts, here and other places I see your name, thoughtful, informative and many times hilariously witty, I will take these as worthwhile recommendations, even if you didn’t intend them as such.

GoT is my first foray into this type of fantasy – meaning somewhat based in Medieval times. Knights in shining armor appealed to me only in theory, never as reading or watching material. Never thought I would be enchanted by dragons or direwolves. My only other fantasy foray was Joss Whedon’s Firefly/Serenity offerings. Please don’t inundate me with protest if you didn’t like Firefly. I loved it, much to my surprise. But that’s more of a science fiction/fantasy. Anyway, I will make note of the names you listed and take a look.

The seat is still saved, J C Davis. I’m no whipper snapper.

  366. Ginevra: As a statistician (well, mathematician who teaches statistics), all online polls are flawed – even IMDb, which I cite a lot, I know – because they don’t get a truly (or even closely) random sample of the entire population.

True! However, things like IMDB also do very good jobs of predicting how successful sequels to movies will be. Moreover, IMDB separates scores by sex and age. So, if you know the demographics of a TV or film audience, then you can weight the IMDB scores to reflect those. (I.e., empirical Bayesian priors in action! Or conditional probabilities: it depends on how you frame it….) And, of course, we have to keep in mind that the studio stats are flawed: movie stats usually are based on audience surveys on opening weekends only (which is a huge chunk of a blockbuster audience, but far from all of it); TV stats are based on voluntary participation in surveys.

In short? Data are messy! (I’m basically a biostatistician: and a big reason why we use such complicated statistical models is to actively take sampling biases into account.)

  367. Thronetender,

Aren’t you a kind gentleman….er, lady….doesn’t matter, you are a kind human. If I may be so bold and put my head on that chopping block of judgement…..

Here is what you should look for if you decide to let your fingers do the walking:

Anne McCaffrey, Dragonriders of Pern series

Stephan R. Donaldson, Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever series

Roger Zelazny, Nine princes in Amber series

Terry Pratchett, well….just about anything there is great

Robert Jordan, Wheel of Time series

David Eddings, Belgariad and Mallorian series *dodges being pelted with rotten tomatoes*

Tad Williams, Memory, Sorrow and Thorn saga or The Dragonbone Chair (first book)

Guy Kay, who helped edit the Silmarillion with Christopher Tolkien, I love his Fionavar Tapestry series.

If I REALLY were to have my feet put to the fire, I would say start with Tad Williams, Memory Sorrow and Thorn – while it is a huge undertaking, at the end, it is SO satisfying and he is a great writer. 2nd is the PERN series by McCaffrey, again fun and satisfying. Zelazny, WAY fun series of House Amber just don’t miss it at some point in life.

*sneaks away before the fantasy police show up*

  368. I loved it. All the major deaths from each season were shown in order.

    Who will be next?

Also, at first I was super excited because I couldn’t find Bran amongst the faces. But he is there – above Tyrion.

  369. Reading these comments only cements by belief that Game of Thrones is one of the greatest television shows ever, with one of the more frustrating online community of fans.

  370. Well that was cool but I’m kind of ok that I didn’t see it right away. Neat effects though! I think they just wanted a general feel of foreboding. It was a good clip to sum up the entire series perhaps… All men must die of course.

  371. My only other fantasy foray was Joss Whedon’s Firefly/Serenity offerings. Please don’t inundate me with protest if you didn’t like Firefly. I loved it, much to my surprise. But that’s more of a science fiction/fantasy.

People who don’t appreciate Firefly are extremely suspect and may possibly not even be human.

    BROWNCOATS UNITE!!!!

  372. Pigeon: People who don’t appreciate Firefly are extremely suspect and may possibly not even be human.

    BROWNCOATS UNITE!!!!

Doesn’t that REALLY have more to do with one Mr. Fillion? *swoon-thud*

  373. Pigeon: People who don’t appreciate Firefly are extremely suspect and may possibly not even be human.

    BROWNCOATS UNITE!!!!

I can kill you with my brain.

We need a River and Arya crossover 🙂

  374. Newbietothegame,

Well, hello there, baby puppy (for the record, I call all dogs baby puppy, regardless of their size and/or age)! What kind of dog is she?

JCDavis: if you decide to let your fingers do the walking:

For a minute there, I thought you were going to recommend the phone book. 😉

I’m still intrigued as to why they included Joffrey in the trailer. I mentioned this above, but either no one liked the idea (which I can’t understand, since all my ideas are brilliant 😉 ), or were focused on whether they liked the teaser, or not, but if the general idea is that of revenge for past wrongs (with the emphasis on the murdered Starks), could Joffrey have been included to point to revenge for those responsible for his murder (Littlefinger and the Tyrells)?

  375. Pigeon: BROWNCOATS UNITE!!!!

Wash: “I’ve been under fire before. Well … I’ve been in a fire. Actually, I was fired. I can handle myself.”

  376. The Bastard: Reading these comments only cements by belief that Game of Thrones is one of the greatest television shows ever, with one of the more frustrating online community of fans.

I think we are one of the best. So okay, some of us whined and moaned, then some others tweaked the whiners, then others tweaked the tweakers. Big deal. I’ve seen waaay harsher for much longer on other sites. I’ve seen downright nasty, with the nasty being supported as the right frame of mind, without the slightest offering of insight or information.

Look how this thread is ending up. With reasonable, albeit sometimes annoying, discussions on marketing strategy, info about other HBO shows, info and opinions on what others saw in the teaser. Hell, we are one step away from braiding each other’s hair. I’ll take this site and these particular fans over any other site I’ve seen. My bet is that you will too. You’ll be here when the season starts, waiting to see what we think.

  377. JCDavis: Doesn’t that REALLY have more to do with one Mr. Fillion?*swoon-thud*

I’m not saying it is, and I’m not saying….oh hell, the man is a Canadian treasure and a hottie. 🙂 But I do love them all.

Ser Not Appearing in this Series: I can kill you with my brain.

We need a River and Arya crossover

That is fantastic and terrifying. 😀

Hodors Bastard: Wash: “I’ve been under fire before. Well … I’ve been in a fire. Actually, I was fired. I can handle myself.”

Oh Wash. A leaf on the wind.

  378. Wimsey,

I am very impressed that you are able to continue to watch “Chronicles of Shannara”. I lasted about ten minutes during that travesty.

Oops – you missed one quest during GoT. Bran’s quest to find the One Eyed Raven. Thankfully he found him fairly quickly.

  379. Wimsey,

I completely agree with you about the Shannara tv series. I stopped watching the week before last. Couldn’t take it anymore which is sad because the book series is actually pretty great. It feels like between the LOTR movies, and the GOT tv series, the bar has been set higher than most producers can achieve.

  380. JCDavis,

Don’t forget Weis and Hickman of the Dragonlance Chronicles 🙂 And some would say Terry Goodkind and R.A Salvatore as well.

  381. Nymeria Warrior Queen: could Joffrey have been included to point to revenge for those responsible for his murder (Littlefinger and the Tyrells)?

I took his inclusion as a reminder of what a murderous jerk he was to and about the Starks, especially to Sansa: threatening to put Robb’s head on a spike for her to look at, for example, and having her beaten regularly. Since this season is supposed to be an active one for Sansa, I’d say it’s time for revenge on the Lannisters and Freys.

  382. Cersei’s Brain: I am very impressed that you are able to continue to watch “Chronicles of Shannara”. I lasted about ten minutes during that travesty.

I did not realize that you consider gluttony for punishment to be impressive! I will make note of that for the future.

(Seriously, why do I keep doing that to myself every week? Is something wrong with me?!?!?)

  383. JCDavis,

You didn’t get away! 35ish whipper-snapper will discuss your choices…

Anne McCaffrey, Dragonriders of Pern series

    too much CGI needed

Stephan R. Donaldson, Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever series
Hmmm… never liked it, to internal for a visual medum

Roger Zelazny, Nine princes in Amber series
Almost liked it… would make a great video game

Terry Pratchett, well….just about anything there is great
too surreal, made a good video game

Robert Jordan, Wheel of Time series
This has the most potential… but I think the market is too small (AKA people my age) and who would do it? I can’t think of a decent match for a station or company…

David Eddings, Belgariad and Mallorian series *dodges being pelted with rotten tomatoes*
Too LOTRish… but man, I do love them

Tad Williams, Memory, Sorrow and Thorn saga or The Dragonbone Chair (first book)
    Meh, too Aregonish

Guy Kay, who helped edit the Silmarillion with Christopher Tolkien, I love his Fionavar Tapestry series.
Go Canada! Good for a CW type series, woulda been a WAY better choice than Shannara

What about Mercades Lackey and her Heralds horsie stuff? Would make a good teenager story. And Assassins, we need Robin Hobb or Brent Weeks…

BROWNCOATS!!! Ahhh… Ignore everything else I said, let’s all just rewatch Firefly…

  384. Thronetender,

Just thought I would tbrow a couple of others in.
Terry Brooks of the Shannara series. Ignore the current tv series. It’s desperately horrible but the books are very good.
Terry Goodkind who penned The Sword of Truth series of books.
R.A. Salvatore of the Forgotten Realms themed books. Too dark for my liking but they are quite popular.
And Weis and Hickman of the Dragonlance Chronicles. They are among my favorites.

  385. Pigeon: People who don’t appreciate Firefly are extremely suspect and may possibly not even be human.
    BROWNCOATS UNITE!!!!

    Indeed!
Zoe: you think any of us are getting out of here?
    Jayne: well I might.

    Lol. and yeah, Nathan.

  386. Newbietothegame:
Oh my, here they are. The complainers that want to shame fans because they are disappointed. Look, if you want to contemplate the meaning of life, discuss world hunger or raging wars find a forum where it is discussed. This is THE GoT fan site where we discuss GoT.
If folks are disappointed by the teaser, they have a right to voice their opinion.
Some liked it, some did not.
Now let’s all join hands and sing Kumbaja.

    Perfectly stated. Thank you.

  387. Thronetender: I think we are one of the best. So okay, some of us whined and moaned, then some others tweaked the whiners, then others tweaked the tweakers.

And Thrones fans are no worse than other fans, and better than some, at least in terms of the extremes: we definitely do not get the crazies that Tolkien fansites attract!

  388. scififantasygirl,

Thanks! I’ve added those to the list – I’ve been so busy mentally projecting myself through the next 10 weeks to the start of the season, that I overshot and fell into a ditch of gloom about how said it will be when the damned season ends. So, delving into some of these will be an effort to stave off withdrawal then.

  389. Ice Spider,

An icy spider? How apropos. I suppose my pic should be of Ginevra (Weasley Potter), but she is Anne of Green Gables, another redhead and true kindred spirit. None of the redheads in GoT were kindred spirits, alas, though I like Ygritte and sometimes Sansa.

  390. Newbietothegame,

I thought she had a good amount of pit in her. She’s the same coloring as my girl was, who was full pit, and the best, sweetest dog I’ve ever been fortunate enough to have. Please, give her a big ol’ hug and kiss from me!

    Thronetender,

I had figured the Lannisters and Freys (Boltons, too) were already covered by the Starks they showed, so I was wondering if Joffrey was in there to add another layer, but what you said makes sense, too.

  391. Meh, Slick but not exactly got me saliating for a new season. Seems like another way to keep up the pretence that Jon is dead despite pretty much everyone on th eplanet knowing he’ll be in next season.

  392. My exam password this term was JayneCobb. I didn’t fully appreciate him until this third viewing I’m in the middle of.

You know what the chain of command is? It’s the chain I go get and beat you with ’til ya understand who’s in ruttin’ command here.

Ain’t logical. Cuttin’ on his own face, rapin’ and murdering – Hell, I’ll kill a man in a fair fight… or if I think he’s gonna start a fair fight, or if he bothers me, or if there’s a woman, or if I’m gettin’ paid – mostly only when I’m gettin’ paid. But these Reavers… last ten years they show up like the bogeyman from stories. Eating people alive? Where’s that get fun?

  393. Ginevra,

I have a question for you: did you end up teaching stats because none of the other math folks wanted to do it? I ask because that’s how I ended up tutoring college stats. None of the other math people would touch that class. I hope this year is as fun for you as it is for me. I always love election years, as it is such a great opportunity to demonstrate why at least a passing knowledge of statistics is so important. We’re constantly inundated with them and never more so than in a Presidential Election year. Even if all they take away is to look at sample sizes, and, after learning a bit about how numbers are cruched, realize how conclusions are drawn about the entire population based on a minuscule sample, I’m happy.

Sorry for all the Off-topic stuff, y’all. I’ll stop.

  394. TheTouchofFrost: Jon is dead despite pretty much everyone on th eplanet knowing he’ll be in next season.

Actually, most people I know are convinced that he’s dead. Only a small fraction of any audience pays attention to what happens between seasons/films.

Hodors Bastard: Mandelbrot would have been interested in the travels and paths taken by both Tyrion and Brienne.

heh, he’s the only person who could have found a way to make them seem longer than GRRM did!

    *rimshot*

  395. Thronetender,

I would look into them briefly before beginning if there is a certain feel you are looking for. My first foray into fantasy was Tolkien who will probably always be my first love due to the poetic and visual nature of his writing. Martin’s is definitely the grittiest I have ever read but I couldn’t help but fall in love with the MANY different viewpoints, conspiracies, plans, stories etc that the series is absolutely filled with. Its enormity of it is unlike anything I have read before and as I began reading I quickly began understanding why people wish the show had kept ‘this or that’ from the books. It’s just that good.
I agree with what I think it was Wimsey said about the quest themes. I had never thought about it before but its so true, certainly with Weis and Hickman and Terry Brooks but they are still very good all the same. They are an easy read so to speak and really good for your first few steps into the genre. I believe I’ll be reading Robert Jordon and Terry Goodkind’s works for the first time after season 6 of GOT is done 🙂

  396. Ginevra:
My exam password this term was JayneCobb.I didn’t fully appreciate him until this third viewing I’m in the middle of.

My favourite quote of his: “I’ll be in my bunk”, closely followed by “Smells like crotch”

  397. Deesensfan,

Just a little about myself first – which I’m sure is not far off from most here… I’m a fan of AHS (well not the last two seasons, but I digress.) When the first episode of the first season aired, instead of rushing in to watch it, instead I took more an hour with the intro on pause, hitting the fast forward button to go frame by frame to look for clues for the story line. I did this each week just in case the intro changed. (No, I have no children and at the time, only one dog.)

So, I first saw the leaked tease of a teaser while at Home Depot last night and couldn’t make much of it. Then watched it again when it premiered before Vinyl (which I could only tolerate for half an hour) – at least I live in warm weather and can enjoy Sunday nights before the real action happens.

I decided to let the tease sink in while I slept. Then I got up at two, and had my go. I changed the settings of the brightness and contrast on the television and did the same. Paused the teaser, and watched by fast forwarding frame by frame. Stannis and Jon’s lover are for sure there. And two above Tyrion is Bran. I took several shots of my phone. It’s too bad Brad doesn’t have facial hair to make him stand out more, but he does have a very distinctive nose and lips.

I then cropped the photos down to just what I believed to be Bran and compared to pics of IHW. Spot on. I think his placement was deliberate. To make us think he cannot die. And perhaps he cannot/will not, and they needed to include him in the teaser.

If they gave us nothing until the premier I would be okay with that. There were so many cliff hangers at the end of last season I don’t want anything spoiled. When the first four were leaked last year, the other half was foolish enough to watch them because he was so excited. I told him he would regret it. When I sat down to watch the second episode he was sad that he spoiled the weekly event. I sincerely hope something like that doesn’t happen again. Let us all be seven year olds in the days leading up to Christmas (or birthday, or holiday which made you happy as a child.)

Let’s take what we can get. Speculate like children what will and could happen. And be overjoyed when the day comes.

    🙂

  398. Ginevra: even if biology scares me.

Biology isn’t scary! How can anything involving Sharks, Dinosaurs and things like Ebola and HIV be….

    oh, wait.

(A colleague of mine recently had a mathematics undergrad intern with him for a summer; at the end of the summer, the intern proclaimed biology to be the most interesting branch of applied mathematics he had encountered!)

  399. I’ve watched this thing a few times now and can I just say I love and miss Michelle Fairley’s voice/accent. I could listen to her all day! 😀

  400. Newbietothegame,

If you were speaking of my comment, my point was for the more extreme complainers to keep it in perspective. There was a great deal of overly harsh words and name calling for D & D, HBO everyone else who could be ‘blamed’, as well and I was just thinking, ‘come on, its a tv show that we are priviledged to watch.’ Commenting about not liking it and why is founded. Massive and degrading temper tantrums don’t make for positive discussions and debates in the thread, of which I truly enjoy. Everyone’s breakdown of the tease, what it meant on a thematic or symbolic level, and their reasons for liking it or not have been quite interesting.

  401. Those of you talking about fantasy books, I have a question. Now that it’s been 20 yrs since A Game of Thrones was released, there’s bound to be published authors out there with series that are influenced by ASOIAF and GRRM. Are there any you recommend? Any that have surpassed the original(s)? The only author I’ve ever heard of as a successor to GRRM is Patrick Rothfuss, and I haven’t read anything of his yet. I’d be particularly interested in any female authors who do the gritty, realistic fantasy genre well. Thanks! 😀

  402. Wimsey: And Thrones fans are no worse than other fans, and better than some, at least in terms of the extremes: we definitely do not get the crazies that Tolkien fansites attract!

HEY….I resemble that remark! 😛 I often wondered why a fellow lover of Tolkien, GRRM and Rowling doesn’t say much about PERN, I am sure you read them. Thoughts? I was so sad when Ms. McCaffrey passed on. *sigh* Same with Zelazny…sad day when he left us.

  403. Deesensfan,

    *Bran, not Brad.

Also, apologizes for the rambling. Going into surgery in a few hours. Something I’ve put off for more than ten years. Very nervous. Xanax is flowing which is making the words flow. As they were yesterday as well.

Apologizes in advance for anything I may write later this evening. I will try to stay clear, but will need distraction. Not looking for sympathy – just freaked. I’ve had several surgeries, just never one on my spine. Too bad no liquids – otherwise I would have downed quite a lot of vodka by now. So if I come back later, it will be to distract myself from what is going on with one of my most important parts.

At least this is a good day for distraction! 🙂

  404. Hodors Bastard,

Wow, respect! Our Mr. Jackson would be pleased to listen to you quoting!
From all his films, my favourite is Pulp Fiction – also the first time when I saw him on screen.

  405. Hodors Bastard:
    Ginevra,

Mandelbrot would have been interested in the travels and paths taken by both Tyrion and Brienne.

You do love series, don’t you? Is that your specialty, HB? I’m more interested in how many (Konigsberg) bridges they crossed or how many colors it would take to color the Seven Kingdoms.

  406. Good luck to you Meera! I am sure your surgery will go off smoothly. I also have a surgery I refuse to get until it’s absolutely necessary (cervical fusion), so I feel you in that respect. Enjoy those painkillers later on 😉

  407. JCDavis,

I have just watched Vinyl and I enjoyed it. The music is great and I’m fascinated by that time, which I couldn’t really know – I was in kindergarden in 1973. I’m curious what will happen to Bobby Cannavale’s, Olivia Wilde’s, Juno Temple’s characters, which I find interesting and well drawn. Only today I have found out about Jagger’s kid, who has the looks of his dad, so it was a pleasant surprise to see him playing a struggling musician. Birgitte is adorable, I hope to see more of her.
And as a Scorsese fan, I was pleased to hear the phrase “mean streets” (at Finestra’s birthday party).

  408. Laura,

That is a good question! One I’d like to know the answer to as well considering the new path George has cut for the genre.

  409. Nymeria Warrior Queen:
    Ginevra,

I have a question for you:did you end up teaching stats because none of the other math folks wanted to do it? I ask because that’s how I ended up tutoring college stats. None of the other math people would touch that class. I hope this year is as fun for you as it is for me. Sorry for all the Off-topic stuff, y’all.I’ll stop.

My undergrad degree is civil engineering, and I hated every minute of engineering – I thought because it was far too practical for my theoretical, abstract tendencies, but I now imagine it had more to do with me sucking at science when math is removed from the equation. So for my master’s, I decided to specialize in the least practical area I could possibly find within mathematics, pure math. (One of my BFFs is fond of saying, “The problem with pure math is that some damned fool always comes along and invents a use for it.”) My thesis was in cryptology, but not a very useful part.

So I didn’t think I’d enjoy statistics when I started teaching it, but I do love it, as you said. Having only a master’s degree and teaching at a university, I teach all core classes for non-math-related majors, and statistics is one of our biggest core classes – and my favorite of all of the core classes we teach. Even though the class is ridiculously practical, there are lots of abstract concepts, principles, and ideas. I almost wish I’d specialized in it. I definitely wish I had more grad courses in stats.

And I get to teach all statistics, half of it online and half face-to-face. I love that mix, too. I’m really fortunate to get almost exactly what I want.

  410. Ginevra: Is that your specialty, HB?….how many colors it would take to color the Seven Kingdoms.

Hah! I would love to see what you did with the ASoI&F coloring book!

I’m an applied mathematician specializing in combinatorics and logistical modeling. In recent years, I’ve focused on financial market analysis, where I’ve found that chaos/fractal theory applies quite well….like the weather, ironborn, wildlings, dothraki and Cersei’s expeditions thru the myrish swamp. I also climb mountains. Have axiom, will travel. 🙂

  411. Joffrey’s Cunt:
I have high hopes that this friday we’ll get some anouncement at least

I’m not expecting anything for a couple weeks when we get into March. Something sometime before the Season 5 Blu ray/DVD drops on the 15th.

  412. Jack Bauer 24,

I only believe in this due to the fact that after weeks and weeks of silence, They decided to release those promo pics, then a week later they gave us a teaser, so maybe with some luck they might give us a proper trailer next week. I certainly wouldn’t mind if they maintain this continuity 🙂

  413. JCDavis: I am sure you read them. Thoughts? I was so sad when Ms. McCaffrey passed on.

I read that series so very long ago (1980’s? 1970’s even?) that I do not remember the books that well. I remember liking them, or at least the early stories, pretty well, and that the plot involved something about Alienesque worms from a satellite that periodically descended and ate everything unless dragons torched them. I sort of remember the stories as being class-struggle oriented but that’s about it.

Hodors Bastard: I’m an applied mathematician specializing in combinatorics and logistical modeling.

Very cool! I use combinatorics a lot for biological data: binomials, multinomials, and then the beta & Dirichlet distributions that emerge from those come up quite a bit. Most of what I do involves modeling how anatomy evolves over the tree of life. It winds up being a mixture of (basically) Poisson and multinomial models. I.e., ugly equations with both integrals AND summations!

Ginevra: I now imagine it had more to do with me sucking at science when math is removed from the equation

I am exactly opposite. Ask me to figure out a mathematical problem out of the blue and my mind will not grasp it. Rephrase it for biology and I’m all over it. That’s probably more my lack of anything resembling maturity (despite my advanced years) than anything else. (If my mother was still alive, then she’d still be asking when I was ever going to grow up!)

  414. Shy Lady Dragon:
    Hodors Bastard,

Wow, respect! Our Mr. Jackson would be pleased to listen to you quoting!
From all his films, my favourite is Pulp Fiction – also the first time when I saw him on screen.

“Check out the big brain on Brett”
“Don’t be tellin’ me about foot massages, I’m the foot f’n master”
“Mind if I have some of your tasty beverage to wash this down with?”
The great Jules lines just don’t end….but there are great quotes from just about every character in the movie.

    Love me some Pulp Fiction.

  415. Ginevra,

I love your avatar and I thought she was really Ginny, she seemed so suitable with my image of her while reading Harry Potter.

  416. Ginevra,

THANKS!! Yes… I am anticipating at least something ICY to appear in the final war between the Others and all of Westeros! Im Ice Dragon on WIC site.. still haven’t figured out how to add avatar there…. I know.. Im a simpleton!! lol

  417. Shy Lady Dragon,

Firefly completely surprised me. I was skeptical going into it and then fell in love with it within the first couple of episodes. Now it’s among my favorite scifi series’ along with Fringe, Xfiles, Star Treks and Stargates, Battlestar Galactica ect… 🙂

  418. Sullied by Knight,

Thanks… I am kind of new to the sites.. about 6 months here and less on WIC. And wanted something no one had latched onto as of yet. I love the mystic part of the show!!

  419. SerNoName: I though this one is even better. Especially Shireen’s creepy song and Jon’s dialogue at the very end. They also use the same ticking clock as this official teaser.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXEODTGyxbs

I’m a bit late, but I’m thrilled to see my trailer reposted here. Can’t wait for HBO to release some proper footage for me to use 😀

  420. Vlad,

We are definitely seeing Geofrey in the Mummers Farce (or how they call that stage play Aria is going to take part in), so I really support the theory that the first four will be back in some form (just have no solution for Robb, yet).

  421. MeeraReed,

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for your health! May the Old Gods and the New protect you! I hope, Meera, that you, being a GOT fan, won’t mind that I want deities invented by GRRM to come for your help. I’ll light a candle in a moment.

  422. I really wouldn’t be at all surprised if a trailer just appeared with no notice or warning at some point.

  423. Dragonmcmx,

Whoa, you made that!?! Absolutely incredible work…from the images you chose, to the snippets of dialogue, and how the whole things builds. I found the way you had Shireen’s song playing over the dialogue and imagery particularly brilliant.

Thank you for making that. 🙂

  424. Laura,

I will and thank you! And I’ll make sure the other half will make sure all the pain I was put through. 😉

Good luck to you as well.

  425. Wimsey: Most of what I do involves modeling how anatomy evolves over the tree of life

Oddly interesting. When are we homo sapiens going to lose our appendix and tailbone and introduce a more flexible knee?

I must admit that my field has become less theory and more numerical plug-and-play with the robust and sophisticated software packages available. How one renders and extrapolates the data (trend analysis) is what is important to customers these days. Teachers of the next generation have my respect.

If I had my druthers, I would linger in the Frostfangs, hike its ridges and uncover its vast secrets…and maybe find Benjen….

  426. JCDavis,

It’s rather late now, but I’ve looked for my Pulp Fiction DVD to rewatch tomorrow. Wait… maybe it’s not so late 🙂

  427. crimethink: They’ve gone much further than merely stating he’s dead, and they’ve pretty strongly ruled out resurrection in any form.(Where “they” is Kit, D&D, and HBO)

I’m not aware of any quote from anyone associated with the show that has specifically ruled out a resurrection scenario, so if you can provide one, I’ll be much obliged. The only quotes I’m aware of is the repetitious mantra of “Jon is dead” or the “dead is dead” quote, which is a bit of a disingenuous quote, since it comes from the first book’s prologue and refers to characters that are promptly “resurrected” (albeit as “ice zombies”)

  428. Judibatt,

Exactly. Apparently in the imagination of some posters here, a drone in marketing could release a trailer showing Jon Snow to be definitively alive, and D&D would neither know about it nor be able to stop it.

  429. Ginevra:
    Ice Spider,

An icy spider? How apropos.I suppose my pic should be of Ginevra (Weasley Potter), but she is Anne of Green Gables, another redhead and true kindred spirit.None of the redheads in GoT were kindred spirits, alas, though I like Ygritte and sometimes Sansa.

Im a fan of Anne of Green Gables – grew up reading that (yes Im aging myself). I love Ygritte and Sansa (when she is a red head).

  430. MeeraReed:
    Deesensfan,

    *Bran, not Brad.

Also, apologizes for the rambling.Going into surgery in a few hours.Something I’ve put off for more than ten years.Very nervous.Xanax is flowing which is making the words flow.As they were yesterday as well.

Apologizes in advance for anything I may write later this evening.I will try to stay clear, but will need distraction. Not looking for sympathy – just freaked.I’ve had several surgeries, just never one on my spine.Too bad no liquids – otherwise I would have downed quite a lot of vodka by now.So if I come back later, it will be to distract myself from what is going on with one of my most important parts.

At least this is a good day for distraction!

Good luck on your surgery. *sends positive vibes to you *

Don’t apologize for the painkiller comments later. All of us will understand. It will be fun trying to decipher what you post. ?

  431. Ginevra:

If you get the chance, visit Green Gables! (provided you haven’t already) – it’s a treasure. And I kid you not, the haunted forest really does creak and sway…. 😀

  432. Angela: Don’t apologize for the painkiller comments later. All of us will understand. It will be fun trying to decipher what you post.

    Or what you took.

    Dear Meera,
Good luck and good health to you and with your surgery. Of course. The many mathematical minds here will be calculating your odds of quick recovery, and me, with my use of heartfelt prose will think of something clever to say so that you don’t feel so shitty when you are wheeled into the recovery room.

  433. Thronetender,

I think it’s more about the lines they speak. Probably, the lines foreshadow the main challenges to arise during the coming season. Ned’s is about being tough, Rob’s – misfortunes of war (I think both the Starks and Team-Mereen will find themselves in rather desperate situations despite of winning certain battles), Catelyne’s – vengeance which may go beyond justice and common sense, and finally Joffrey’s – a reminder that power corrupts (especially combined with vengeance, misfortunes and the need of being tough). So, I think that at some point all the protagonists will find themselves in the situation where they will prefer to be dead than alive and Tyrion may suffer most of all, because he really loves living and represents the idea of loving life even when it is very tough.

  434. Inga: I think it’s more about the lines they speak. Probably, the lines foreshadow the main challenges to arise during the coming season.

Again, it’s pretty improbable that the people who put this together knows what is happening during the season. Marketing and production are very separate departments, after all.

  435. Paraphrasing Tyrion, most men would rather deny a hard truth than face it, and some web sites can’t tell the difference between a teaser and a trailer.

    (Not this site, of course.)

  436. Pigeon: If you get the chance, visit Green Gables! (provided you haven’t already) – it’s a treasure. And I kid you not, the haunted forest really does creak and sway….

    Where is it?

  437. People complained about no new footage last year, too. I feel sorry for those who were expecting the trailer Jan 1st lol.

  438. “Meera is expected to return in season six after a year away from the HBO show, as her party including Bran Stark make a comeback.”

So they had an interview with her’ asked her about Jon and instead of just asking her if she’s coming back they write that? Weird.

  439. Ice Spider: Where is it?

It’s on the beautiful island province of Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada. I live half the country away, but it stole my heart when I was there many years ago.

  440. Aftab aslam:
Holder it’s like they’re still trying to convince us that Jon Snow is dead

I get that they showed Snow and it was starting off to look like those who’ve died..

However.. why was Tyrion there? why was Arya there? they are both very much alive

  441. Hodors Bastard: Hah! I would love to see what you did with the ASoI&F coloring book!

    I’d only need four crayons.

    Combinatorics sounds cool.

    Have axiom, will travel.

I had to explain to my daughter – who shouldn’t read over my shoulder but does – why I laughed out loud at that one.

  442. Ice Spider,

My firstborn is Anne-with-an-E. Neither got my red hair, but both girls have a bit of Anne’s spirit. I wish there was a digital version of the television series.

I’m fully expecting ice spiders in the books, by the way.

  443. I have been shocked by the comments from my casual viewer/non-book reader friends- apparently they didn’t even notice Arya, Sansa, Daeny, Jamie & Cersei’s faces shown around Tyrion’s! They also didn’t notice Ygritte’s face next to Jon- I had to point all of it out to them later when they were like, “so the trailer shows Tyrion dead too- is that it?” Am I just a total GoT nerd for noticing each face or are they just very unobservant? I’m perplexed. I’m going with the latter…now I’m concerned about their long term memory. :-0

  444. Pigeon: If you get the chance, visit Green Gables! (provided you haven’t already) – it’s a treasure. And I kid you not, the haunted forest really does creak and sway….

I told my brother yesterday that the one place in Canada I most wanted to visit was PEI! I want to visit a friend in Montreal, too, but those aren’t so very close, unfortunately.

  445. JCDavis: Guy Kay, who helped edit the Silmarillion with Christopher Tolkien, I love his Fionavar Tapestry series.

Though I for one prefer his more “mature” novels to the Fionavar Tapestry, I am a HUGE fan of the greatly underappreciated Guy Gavriel Kay and would be utterly delighted to see any or all of his books made into films or TV mini-series. I seem to recall reading somewhere that some studio had optioned The Lions of Al-Rassan, but nothing ever came of it. That one is fabulously cinematic – El Cid, but with magic – but then all of Kay’s writing is, really. He is such a wonderful storyteller, his characters are charming and engaging and his plots so deliciously convoluted and surprising!

Tigana is another of my favorites. It was the first one of Kay’s that I read, and he had me in the palm (pun intended) of his hand as soon as that ambush at the hunting lodge occurred early on. It was the sort of “After this, anything can happen, so sit back and enjoy the wild ride” moment that one has in discovering AGoT. I love the landscape and the culture and the politics and the magic system and the ‘assassin falls in love with intended victim’ subplot…and I really want to see those Riselka onscreen!

  446. Sullied by Knight:
    Shy Lady Dragon,

If it is a glass candle made from obsidian, I will be thoroughly impressed!

It occurs to me that some wily entrepreneur ought to buy up a pile of obsidian and made tall candleholders out of it to market to GoT/ASoIaF fans, suitably etched with mystical runes or house sigils or what-have-you. I’d buy a set for sure.

  447. Rygritte: People complained about no new footage last year, too. I feel sorry for those who were expecting the trailer Jan 1st lol.

What about those people expecting to get Winds of Winter for Christmas? (2014)

    😀

  448. Wimsey: What about those people expecting to get Winds of Winter for Christmas?(2014)

Hey it could happen. Anything is possible right? Maybe. Stop being so negative. George can do it. Probably. ?

    What about ADOS?

  449. Jack Bauer 24,

She gave another interview yesterday confirming. I think the interview itself confirms that she is coming back, they only not used the word “confirmed”.

  450. Rygritte,

She appeared with a bow and arrow in one of Season 3 production clips.

    And I love this
“I think what’s been going on in George RR Martin’s brain is so much more a complex wormhole than we could possibly imagine. I think there’s definitely a mystery to Meera and Jojen and their parentage, but I think it’ll unwind itself eventually.”

  451. Well! 730+ comments! This must be a record for this site. I don’t remember any other post with so many comments here. And if that… thing HBO gave us last night can reach 730+ comments, when the post with a proper trailer come out we might easily reach 1000+.

  452. MeeraReed,

I hope all went well with your surgery!!!

    Pigeon:
I know there was one that reached 1000, because Henry Gordon provided his brownie recipe. <3

Yep, it sure did reach 1,000 posts…oh, and it wasn’t just his brownie recipe, it was his grandma’s brownie recipe. 🙂

  453. Ginevra: I told my brother yesterday that the one place in Canada I most wanted to visit was PEI!I want to visit a friend in Montreal, too, but those aren’t so very close, unfortunately.

I’ve even been browsing houses online in PEI and considering transferring my job there in the future…the housing prices are fantastic compared to here, and although I only spent 2 weeks in Charlottetown and area as a youngun’, my mind goes back there often. Funny how these things stick. Of course I was and am a huge Anne fan, and grew up reading the books and watching the movies. I was so sad when Jonathan Crombie (Gilbert Blythe) passed away last year.

  454. Davos’ Luck:
Well! 730+ comments! This must be a record for this site. I don’t remember any other post with so many comments here. And if that… thing HBO gave us last night can reach 730+ comments, when the post with a proper trailer come out we might easily reach 1000+.

“that…thing” LOL. yes, the proper trailer will get us going, but think what’s going to happen after the first episode. It will take my laptop all damn day to load every time I refresh the page to see new comments. But OH how I’m looking forward to it.

  455. Wilber’s Forza Danza,

Could do better. Classic line from old school reports. Perhaps HBO have a new definition for the word ‘tease’, maybe?
It’s clearly obvious the show is moving into it’s end-game seasons. With the anticipated War For The Dawn looming (you can’t spoil what’s been foreshadowed through the whole series and books), the casualties will mount up. What’s to tease there? It’s playing on those words we’ve all learned, and that’s about it. Nothing to make anyone go ‘WTF was that?!!!’….. anywhere in this.
This feels more like HBO filling space with space rather than anything of substance. Also, it’s not to take attention away from the show they’ve just launched. I won’t get started on that!

  456. Best wishes, Meera!! Never underestimate the power of good post-op drugs. 😉

All of you math people are making my English major skin itch… ;/

  457. I’m so tempted to request an avatar that is my face on a shelf in the House of Black and White, but I’d look terrible bald.

  458. I want this team to tackle THE DARK TOWER next after GoT…..

i would love for Jaime and Brianne to rebuild his house.

  459. Alex G: Really??? The first LOTR was not liked by PJ and company? I didn´t know that…

PJ et al disliked the first LotR trailer, not the film! It was horrible: it seems that the marketers thought that it was a kids film. (Of course, PJ’s film did a lot to change the then-popular conception that Lord of the Rings is a kids story.) It had a tagline of “You will find adventure, or adventure will find you.” People everywhere were reaching for insulin. Fortunately, the next trailer had input from PJ’s folks and was so much better that the jokes disappeared.

  460. Wimsey,

yes! sorry! I forgot to write trailer…That´s odd, though;I first saw the FOTR trailer at HP and the SS and thought: ¨Boy,that movie looks good¨…I´ll have to re watch it 😉

  461. We have to remember that the show has already at least hinted (if not established) that the faces don’t have to be dead people. After all, we saw the dead Jaquen with Arya’s face (among others) in the last episode, though that could have been the effect of hallucinogenic drugs on Arya. Just because the faces we’ve seen so far in the books have all been taken from dead people doesn’t mean that all of them are. And it certainly doesn’t mean that that’s how it is on the show.

  462. Pigeon,

Guess it’s time to join in the sigil making….

Just took a closer look at yours- very clever with the Soundgarden spoof 🙂

  463. Firannion: It occurs to me that some wily entrepreneur ought to buy up a pile of obsidian and made tall candleholders out of it to market to GoT/ASoIaF fans, suitably etched with mystical runes or house sigils or what-have-you.I’d buy a set for sure.

    LOL.
Sign me up for that. Seriously. I’d buy that too.

  464. So frustrated. I want to add an avatar and I saw somewhere explained to click next to your name but I can’t even find my name without posting something new. Is there a way, for future reference, to find one’s posts???? It’s very hard to keep track of stuff when the threads get to be 700 posts.

SO nothing happens when I click anywhere on or near the username. Ugh. Guess I will have to stay a faceless (wo)man.

  465. Pigeon,

I found the answer about avatars in the FAQ’s but one needs to open something called wordpress.com account. What exactly is that, can you help explain please? And is that how everyone acquired an icon next to their name?

  466. YgriTte:

The FAQ section has instructions and a link to the Gravatar site.
    http://watchersonthewall.com/faq/

I did mine years ago for another site, and it worked automatically when I began posting here. Fortunately my old gravatar was quite appropriate: lots of snow in front of my house a few years ago. 😀

  467. David H:

We don’t even know what Jaqen really looks like, the appearance we associate him with could belong to anyone (or no-one).

  468. Irishton,

I can see it, he’s a cute cheeky bastard! Term of endearment since Jon Snow 😉
I hope my brand new fiery dragon is visible for everyone.

  469. YgriTte,

I was struggling last night to set my avatar and I finally succeded. Just make an account to the gravatar site, using your own name/ another/ the one you use here and the email you use here. Then you get an email and you have to click to activate your account. After that you go back and you can choose an avatar from the pictures in your computer.
If I made it I’m sure you can as well.

  470. aldeatcu:
What if Arya takes Jon Snow’s face an fights the war to winterfell?

It won’t work, she doesn’t have the skill in fighting or the leader aptitude that jon has.

  471. Pigeon: I was so sad when Jonathan Crombie(Gilbert Blythe) passed away last year.

I know! He was so young, too. Well, perhaps that is relative, but I think all would agree far too young to die. He was a great Gil.

Living somewhere as gorgeous as PEI would be a dream: so much scope for the imagination.

  472. Just watched Vinyl and I can not stop thinking how perfect Andrew Dice Clay would have been for Walder Frey.

  473. Danielle Stark,

No.. casual viewers just don’t pay attention to detail lol

My brother is a casual viewer. He watched Narcos and had NO idea “oberyn” was in narcos. Like come on. Who can forget Oberyn????

  474. Deesensfan:

Like come on. Who can forget Oberyn????

We certainly can’t 😉 I’m going to order an Oberyn figure when it is available on HBO Shop Europe.

  475. Rygar: Vinyl…Andrew Dice Clay

Frank “Buck” Rogers (ADC) had quite a smashing “Oberyn” moment near the end, didn’t he? Another definitive Scorsese scene! 🙂

  476. Maybe Bran has a glimpse of the past and sees the true mother of Jon and what his future as a Stark could have been..Maybe that explains his presence on set,he may stay dead..:(

  477. Deesensfan,

Cut off the bottoms of his feet. Then make him walk/crawl from the Twins Tower A to Tower B. When he finally gets to Tower B, say “What are you doing here? You are supposed to be at Tower A. Get moving.” Repeat as often as necessary ala Cool Hand Luke.

  478. Deesensfan,

I may be not cruel enough to imagine it, but I have faith in GRRM, D&D 😉
But I would like the Starks to bring ruin on House Frey! Our sweet little Arya seems to have learnt a lot 🙂

  479. I found it totally disappointing not to get a full trailer, but with all the teaser’s I’m beginning to wonder if we will GET a full trailer. I did like this teaser, but obviously I’m in the minority on that. It’s dark, the lines are all pertinent to the story, and it still leaves us with a question about the dead…and the alive. Are they about to be dead? I didn’t see Bran (obviously) not Rickon and after watching this on my HBO Now app on my Roku I replayed it on my computer frame by frame. I somehow wonder if this teaser is a portent of things to come?

Well, I’m still hoping for a trailer, just not sure it will ever materialize..lol.

  480. Wimsey,

Even the less tuned in amongst folks I know still don’t think that’s the last we’ve seen of him. The show is such a juggernaut now that the reasoning for him still being “alive” has surely filtered through from those of us who follow the show beyond viewing it into the general viewership. I guess it was impossible to keep it a secret unless they had armed guards on the set and Kit became a hermit for a year!

  481. Firannion,

I too love all his works….Lions, Tigana, Abronne, Sarantium, Ysabel..but for some reason Fionavar captured me from jumping out of the University of Toronto. 😛 I came to love the Dalrei…Ivor. (little squee) The beautiful Lios, the fate of Matt/Loren, poor Darien and then Diar, didn’t see that one coming and I did cry, many tears. Maybe it is simple, but it sure plucked at this simple girl’s heart. In fact, my name on many other sites and Twitter is Lady Fionavar. 😉

  482. The more I think about it the less I need a trailer. Happy for everything that happens this season to be a surpise although I understand the need to whip the fandom up into a frenzy.

  483. Sister Kisser,

Okay, now that avatar is scary to me. Bloody cakes!! But I like it.

Sure seems we have a new rash of folks that are using the avatar, I think it is great. (also fine that some would rather not)

  484. Deesensfan,

Up until Robb went back on his oath, I believe Walder fully intended to keep his. If we blame Walder for violating guest rights, then we have to blame Robb and Cat for violating an oath. And, if Walder deserves a horrible death for violating guest rights, then I suppose Robb and Cat deserved a horrible death also.

    ..or so the logic goes.

  485. Exit81,

Not really the Sight from the Three Eyed Raven gave way more information then this. Very disappointed. I know all men must die and that the long night brings the dead and all that crap. Give me something new damnit!

  486. Deesensfan,

It is not that casual viewers do not pay attention to details: it is that they do not retain them months or even weeks later. After all, most of us have a lot of details to remember for our careers and day-to-day lives, as well as for a small number of hobbies. For anything with lots of audience (sports, films, tv shows, books), only a small percentage make any particular one a “hobby” the way that most of us have done with Thrones.

  487. TheTouchofFrost: The show is such a juggernaut now that the reasoning for him still being “alive” has surely filtered through from those of us who follow the show beyond viewing it into the general viewership.

But most viewers will not know people who pay such close attention to the show or to the books. Again, I think that you are vastly overestimating how “influential” the fandom is: we number in the 1000’s, but the viewers number in the millions.

(Of course, fans always do overestimate how big the fandom is relative to the general viewer/readership!)

  488. Shy Lady Dragon,

Yes your shy fiery dragon looks cool, ha ha cheeky bastard love it, you just sparked some feelings of nostalgia, I find of want to change my name to something game of thrones related, all you have cool names I’m not feeling irishton anymore

  489. Wimsey,

Indeed. When wondering what GOT is like to others, just think of some show you watch but don’t follow. I often forget main characters in such cases week-to-week. “Last week on” is much appreciated! Heck, even shows I follow… TWD, from one season to the next I’ll lose track of major hanging plot points.

  490. JCDavis,

Thanks, m’lady! I was lucky to find it online, I suppose it is meant to depict Dany and Drogon, but for me it shows a girl inside a dragon, a female dragon 😉
What’s your avatar? A fairy, a pixie? BTW, what’s the difference?

  491. Irishton,

    Thank you, ser!
It’s a shame to give up “Irishton”, sounds cool! It’s a great culture, no matter where you are at present or even if you mean to stay there for ever.
Maybe you should call yourself “Irishton Targaryen” or “Aemon Irishton”, I know you are a Targaryen supporter… and it’s fine, eventually Starks and Targaryens will live in peace, I believe.

  492. Anon,

Yes, they did violate their oath. And yes, they should have paid for it somehow. But Walder Frey does not have the luxury of our bias. He wasn’t a fan favourite. So obviously, Robb and Cat didn’t deserve death but Frey does.
    Hahaha

  493. Don’t really have anything new to add but with 800+ comments so far I didn’t want to be the only WotW follower who didn’t comment. 🙂

  494. Thursday Carice van Houten is in the show of Seth Meyers. Also Nicolaj Coster-Waldau is a guest thursday at Jimmy Kimmel. Maybe they spoil us a bit.

  495. Anon:
    Deesensfan,

    ..or so the logic goes.

Very clever, but Walder did a bit more than that 😉

Robb tried to make amends, Walder less so.

In fact, his violation of guest rights was a bit on the excessive side, as it involved the small matter of ambushing thousands and massacring thousands of Starkists, and betraying his feudal lord.

  496. Shy Lady Dragon,

Yes I think i will add a taygarean to it, how did you know i don’t remember saying it but yes they would be my favorite house and that’s soley based on my belief in Jon so Starks get a big thumbs up also. I would just skin walder Frey and tie him to ghost and throw a rabbit for him to chase maybe in dorne very Sandy and rocky a nice open space.

  497. Ginevra,

I think that’s Missandei to the left of Arya and maybe Dario to the right. Doesn’t really look like Cersie and Jamie.

I think this ‘teaser’ was/is intriguing. Doesn’t matter what they throw out there; I’m just excited to get anything GoT!!

  498. Rygar:
Just watched Vinyl and I can not stop thinking how perfect Andrew Dice Clay would have been for Walder Frey.

    haha wtf?

    The pilot was great, nevertheless!

Walder Frey? Shove some sausages down his throat and some starving dogs up his butt.

  500. Ser Roger Sterling,

I really couldn’t stand it. But I still saw it through to the end… no more, though. But I still appreciate HBO’s commitment to quality production, that which has brought us GOT, a show with an apparent budget that I never would have imagined possible. Even Rome had the marks of TV limitations on it, but GOT seems to have come almost all the way.

  501. KG,

I’m glad you said what I’ve been thinking. What some people on here at the moment forget about this place ( and including Wic beforehand) that this has been our home for a number of years. We are free to voice our opinions and views on she show and the books together. There has been a bit of clique on here lately and I’ve noticed a few old faces have gone AWOL. My point is we r all in this together so let’s not be telling people to go away or piss or piss off if you don’t like there views.

Quick point, Al swearegan sometimes gets my blood boiling with some of his comments but that’s his opinion, he is free to say what he thinks and he is part of this community and I’d miss him if he was not here.

  502. Aftab aslam,

Look closer though, all of the faces are in there although they aren’t speaking…you see Arya just below Tyrion. And Sansa and Dany are to his right and left. Even Stannis is in there in close proximity to Jon.

  503. Wimsey,

No you’re right, was just on lunch at work talking to a few people about season 6. They had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned Jon’s as dead as Beric Dondarrion. When they said “huh?”, I said the guy Thoros brought back, again “huh?” – finally I said the dude who fought the hound with a fire sword and they caught on.

They also had no memory of Mel and Thoros meeting, understandable, since it was back in S2 or S3.

I think the average watcher, who doesn’t visit sites like this or discuss theories has no idea whats coming. When they head Jon is dead, they assume (rightfully) that he is dead.

Doesn’t mean he will stay dead.

  504. Shy Lady Dragon:

I don’t remember having any problems, I remember a choice for Gravatar or choice from one of my folders, I chose from my folder.

  505. Shy Lady Dragon,

It is a fairy. It LOOKS like a large globe/moon behind the fairy, but really it is her wings, she is looking into an orb. I picked it because years ago when I self identified my online character as Fionavar, this was called “Fiona Fairy” and it stuck. Pixies are small and typically known for pranks and such. Fairy folk are magical, small and mostly female. Much more beautiful than Pixie folk. *preens* LOL.

  506. Shy Lady Dragon,

Thank you. I didn’t draw it, nor did I bake the cake. I did bring it to our gathering the night S3 Ep9 aired though.

We usually do a potluck style feast with drinks and I was tasked with dessert that day. Dessert?? What the…? So I considered what was happening that night and called a cake shop. I told the cake maker I wanted a lot of blood, splattered on a cake. She may have thought that was a strange request. So I asked- “have you heard of Game of Thrones?” She said, “oh yeah, I’m on book 5, and I watch every night after work with my friends!” Perfect. I tried to be tactful. “So you know what’s happening tonight??” Pause, pause…. And a quick inhale as she realizes the impending horror we were all to witness later that evening. “Do you want me to write anything on it?” Somehow I nailed it with “the Lannisters….” So I show up with a warning- this cake contains spoilers- and nobody was allowed to open the box.

Needless to say, everybody was a bit emotional after the RW, and there were many unsullied among us. I was a little apprehensive about the cake, but it managed to turn those most of those frowns upside down.

Not sure if I’ll keep it as my gravatar, but it is perhaps my only Thrones related photo.

    Dig your dragon lady 🙂

  507. Joe,

Thanks Joe! Question though….is the username I choose to sign up with that account going to be the only one where the selected avatar appears? Or will it follow me around the web at any place which is linked to the Email I plug into WordPress?

  508. Shy Lady Dragon,

Love the red color of your avatar! It’s interesting seeing everyone’s choices.

I’m still over-thinking this lol. Do I sign up with the name I use here and the chosen avatar will only be associated with the name “Ygritte?” I wish I had picked a more interesting username but when I first posted I didn’t put much thought into it, and after a short while when attempting to post under something different realized I was stuck with it after comments wouldn’t go through using the other handle lol. I’m cool with it now though.

  509. Anon:

There should be some consequences for violating an oath, but that consequence is death if and only if it was an unbreakable vow, which this wasn’t. However, guest rights are setup in the story to be worse than the unbreakable vow with the story of the Rat Cook. This is the way it is in the world of Westeros.

    #gunhung

When we see Thoros bring back Beric in the season premiere’s “previously on,” that sound you’ll hear will be my squeal of glee echoing ’round the world!

  511. Ygritte,

It will follow you to any site that uses Gravatar, but you can always create a new email address, forward that email to your regular address, and have that email especially for this site, if you wanted.

  512. Irishton,

Wow, that’s some imagination! Maybe D&D could offer you a job, I doubt such an imaginative end is in store for Walder Frey.
You took the “internal” poll (i.e. suggested by a fan whose name I can’t remember) stating your favourite season, house and episode. I read your answer while keeping up with a comments, just before answering to the comments addressed to me. That’s how I remember about you being a Targaryen supporter. I forgot your favourite season and episode though 🙂

  513. Ginevra,

Thanks for the embed. The way they tell it, is that the “Gods” frown heavily on violating guest rights. People say the gods do this, and the gods do that… but we never actually see any gods doing anything. All we see are people talking endlessly about the gods and executing the gods’ supposed wishes. The gods’ wishes are just people wishes, IMO.

And so, perhaps, a guest right violation is no worse than any other violation: you make a promise to do something, then you break that promise.

People think it’s worse, but is it really worse? Really?

  514. JCDavis,

I noticed her wings and yes, she is beautiful, indeed! Unfortunately I haven’t read the books about Fionavar. To be honest, the long list of recommended fantasy books made me blush, totally in the dark there! *blushes again*
And about pixies, I remember now a lesson involving mischievous pixies in Harry Potter.

  515. Sister Kisser,

You should keep this avatar, it is great and the story as well. I didn’t realise it was a picture of an actual cake, I thought you had drawn it on the computer. When I read your story I envied you 🙂 I wish I had friends to watch GOT together, absolutely nobody around me watches it. That’s why WOTW is so precious to me.
But, to be honest, I don’t think I would have had the idea of ordering a Red Wedding cake.

  516. Homplomplom,

Very clever, but Walder did a bit more than that ?

Robb tried to make amends, Walder less so.

In fact, his violation of guest rights was a bit on the excessive side, as it involved the small matter of ambushing thousands and massacring thousands of Starkists, and betraying his feudal lord.

Lmao. There is a hole in my argument; but, everybody’s balking over guest rights, when what happened was a murder. Does Walder have the right to kill someone who cheats him? And does a Feudal lord(Robb) have to set an example by keeping his oath to an …underling?

Robb and Cat made Edmure pay for their broken oath. They railroaded him into marrying a Frey daughter. They were such hypocrites lecturing Edmure about risking their lives for a prettier wife. Isn’t that what Robb did? And, he was a KING! I wonder how the ‘gods’ felt about that.

  517. Ygritte,

I’m glad people who know more than me have already explained avatar stuff to you. I’m looking forward to see what you’ll choose!
I didn’t choose that dragon because of it’s colour, I liked the picture which I had found by chance. My favourite colour is green, especially a dark, cold shade.
I like that you chose the user “Ygritte”, it’s suitable because of your favourite character and it’s not an usual name. At least it wasn’t, I suppose now there are girls called Ygritte in the world.
When I made my gravatar account I wanted to put the nickname my friends use to call me, but it was already taken. So, shyladydragon it is!

  518. Deesensfan,

I, for one, appreciate how Walder keeps it real. That talk he gave to Robb about Talisa was rolling on the floor hilarious. It’s extraordinary to hear the truth come right out of the mouth of a lecherous old man man.

I agree with you 100%. Not the brightest bulbs in the box.

  520. The longest they’ve gone without showing footage from the upcoming season is February 23rd for Season 3. That’s next week.

  521. Ser Not Appearing In This Series: Walder Frey? Shove some sausages down his throat and some starving dogs up his butt.

    [/moe szyslak]

Yes I could visualize that working ha ha but what type of dog, that’s a big factor, would you go with a few teacup chihuahuas, or a few weenie dogs or a pitbull? And what type of sausages and would they be cooked or raw?

  522. Shy Lady Dragon,

Wow that would be a dream come true having any job related to game of thrones and yes I remember that poll, sorry i forgot and my favorite season was one but episode probably Hardhome for its non stop action. My favorite character hands down has to be Ollie, deserves the iron throne he will get it by killing off everyone ha ha. Hey check out my last comment on the other page had a question about Timisoara.

  523. Jack Bauer 24:

Looks like history is about to repeat itself…or worst.

  524. JCDavis,

I could always take the name off for a more simple image. I thought of using an image of Drogon blasting Jon with dragon fire for a humorous effect but I figured I was over thinking it. 😉

  525. Irishton,

Oh, I’m not that fortunate to have dragons choosing me… *sighs nostalgically* Not even my cats (I have had 4 by now, only one is still alive) have chosen me… Two of them were presents (the current one included), my mother found one… Oh, one chose me, I found him in my basement, but unfortunately he lived only several days… no matter how much the vet tried to save him. It’s been about 8 years since then, but I feel sad when I remember.
I love animals, I wish I had a dragon even if my flat is too small to keep one 🙂 “If you had a dragon, he would eat your cat”, a friend told me.

  526. Shy Lady Dragon,
Evening Your Shyness *waves*. Dragons are very expensive to feed and insurance is a NIGHTMARE, I reckon sticking with cats is easier! If they get grumpy the worst you get is a scratch or sulking (or a stealth pooh if you’re really unlucky). Stroppy dragon could burn down the whole street and imagine trying to take them to the vets! 😀

  527. Irishton,

That old page where you mentioned your Romanian friend? I have just checked, the last post there is mine.
But I remember I didn’t explain the Syrio Forel theory.

Basically it says that Syrio and Jaqen H’ghar – now I’m almost laughing, because I remember the song – are the same person. Syrio was not murdered by Trant, but changed his face and then Arya met him as Jaqen. It was not clear what he was doing in Kings Landing, but it is implied that he was there fulfilling a mission and he chose to be taken by Yoren. It is believed that the Faceless Men had been interested in Arya to take her as a disciple. Cool, isn’t it? I certainly would like Syrio to be alive.

You can keep Ollie, I’m not going to take him from you 😉

  528. Lulus Mum,

Evening, mother of cats! *waving back*
You’re the voice of reason! Even if someone compared dragons to cats – IIRC it was Wimsey – a clever parallel, I guess cats are low maintainance if compared to dragons. My cat is very loud and demanding when he’s hungry and, even if he is friendly to everybody and usually has a pleasant personality, he is a calamity when I take him to the vet. The vet is a very nice man, I like him a lot, but my cat hates him and misses no opportunity to scratch or bite him. I’m trying to imagine how a dragon would behave! Not in a million years I’ll accept the good vet to become dragon fodder! And the vet becoming a dragonslaying knight is by no means a better alternative!

People think it’s worse, but is it really worse? Really?

The severities of rights and wrongs are, for the most part, culturally imposed. Because the culture defines it as worse, it is.

Even in our culture, those who marry almost always take oaths “till death do us part,” and half of these oaths get broken. Who knows what percentage of people in our culture die before ever breaking their word?

If people truly believe that the gods judge a deed harshly, then the people will judge that deed equally as harshly, so it could be people exacting revenge. But the people are also the puppets of the gods. We see people doing the bidding of the puppet masters all the time.

Melisandre’s god killed four kings, which was no small feat. These deaths came at the hands of 1.) (and from the loins of, in this case) Stannis and Melisandre, 2.) Walder Frey, Roose Bolton, and conspirators, 3.) Petyr Baelish and the Queen of Thorns, and 4.) a Faceless Man via this king’s brother. Funny how half of the killers were kingslayers and kinslayers, slaying a brother no less.

GRRM has confirmed that Melisandre has true powers, and so I assume that these powers truly come from her god.

  530. Anon:
    Homplomplom,
Robb and Cat made Edmure pay for their broken oath.

In fact, it’s Robb’s fault Edmure chased the Mountain away.
-Did he had his plan to ambush the Lannisters since the beginning? Then he should have told Edmure.
-Did he improvise on the way to the Westerlands? Then he shouldn’t be surprised that his uncle decided to fulfil his duty as lord and attack the invaders. “Hold Riverrun” is a vague order, anyway. (Actually, I think Edmure is the ideal of the perfect lord, just like Brienne and Dunk are the ideal of the perfect knight. Which is one of the reasons why House Tully is my personal favourite :)).

  531. Ginevra,

Thank you so much! It’s really a great list, I love the Dune series, The Last Unicorn, 1984. I liked Frankenstein. I didn’t like Brave New World, I don’t even remember anything from it, but I’m sure I had to read it when I was in college. This is all by now, I’m afraid. I’ve seen some of the films: Stardust (loved it) and Ender’s Game among them, but I’d like to read the books. American Gods has been waiting for me on the shelf for some months.

  532. Shy Lady Dragon,

A very wise friend, a quote to live by… I’m sorry about your cats always sad to have a pet die, absolutely heartbreaking. To keep things on a sad note which is something I don’t like doing but i had to have my 3 month old puppy put down while he was looking at me sitting on my lap, it was the most heartbreaking moment of my life, his sad eyes drifting away, thinking of it now has my whole body well up with emotion.

  533. Shy Lady Dragon,

Why would they be interested in her, like there was some prophecy she was in. Why didn’t he take out trant in front of arya what was the point in losing her then. How could she be so sure she would set him free if that was planned which I do think he planned to be in the cage because he’s a beast and will only be caged if he allows it so that point is valid with me. I don’t know its possible I’m sure but for some reason i am not feeling it as I can’t see any hints that were given at the start.

  534. Irishton,

OMG, that must have been awful! What was wrong with the poor puppy?
The theory implies that Arya was targeted as a suitable recruit. If it were so, maybe he would think she wasn’t ready. I don’t know, you pointed out some holes in the theory, maybe it’s nothing true about it.

  535. Shy Lady Dragon,

He had some disease that couldn’t be cured I’ve tried erase the whole ordeal from my memory, it really is the saddest moment of my life and i have had so many close friends die that at age 17 my mother who has been to countless funerals was shocked at the amount of funerals I’ve attended at such a young age. Maybe it’s how useless i felt and how vulnerable he was and harmless and I couldn’t save him i still blame myself and can’t focus on it without breaking down and I’m not a cryer. I usually hold on to my emotions, in Ireland you grow up around everyone being tough, hardened and never letting our emotion only anger sadly, that’s one thing I like about America the people here are not afraid to open up, which I admire, sadly some people take it too far and the latest generations are very feminine and overly sensitive, where they have lost their thick skin, sorry didn’t mean to ramble, my puppy just opened up a few emotions. Jon snow is azor ahai and will lead an army against the white walkers and they will be losing the battle until Sam arrives with his new friends dany and the dragons

  536. did anyone else notice the lighting when the teaser finally showed jon snow ? I felt different from everyone else.

  537. Shy Lady Dragon,

It’s nice to have some friends who geek (almost) as much as I for GoT. I introduced a couple to it sometime around season 2, and now they host a party every week at their recording studio, in a big live room with a projector and huge speakers for monitors. It’s pretty fun and I have made some good new friends out of it.

Also, stop what you are doing and go pick up your copy of American Gods . I am a Gaiman fan (I have all the leather oversized collectors editions of sandman, and pretty much all his other stuff), but that is a great read. There were rumors years ago of HBO picking it up, but evidently they backed out, or Gaiman did, depending on whose story you read. I just drove across the States the last couple weeks and made my way through the north country during winter- it was probably because of this book that I decided to drive my truck across a frozen lake (not my sharpest moment, but what the hell- the locals were doing it!)

  538. Aryamad,

That is absolutely perfect for Rygar! Glad he approves.

Also. Your handle. Lol. My daughter’s name is Aria. (Note the spelling). Her middle name is Madeleine, after her grandma, my ex-mother-in-law. Gramma Maddy’s favorite thing in the world was to ask the crying baby- What’s a matter…. AriaMad???

    So I love your avatar.

  539. Sister Kisser,

Haha! Yeah I can’t really remember where I got that image but it seemed to suit Rygar’s humorous posts here. XD

Oh wow that’s a great name and a cute story! 🙂 I’m sure your daughter is a spirited one just like our GoT Arya, eh? Thank you for the compliments! I’ve been looking for a reason to use the name outside of the internet too… maybe if I get a second dog one day.

  540. Anon,

I don’t have even a thimbleful of compassion for (The Late) Walder Frey, but the look he gave Robb when his gorgeous daughter walked in to marry Edmure makes me laugh every time I see it. Still, I’ll be very happy to see him go…

  541. Shy Lady Dragon,

I am in the Syrio is still alive camp, too. A faceless man. The finest swordsman in Braavos. He turned in to Jaqen and was intentionally captured to keep an eye on Arya and help out as needed. That’s what I like to think, anyway. If the true story is any different, I hope I never find out. 🙂

  542. Jack Bauer 24,

Yeah you got it! 😀 I’ll have to work on that tomorrow. Anything you want on it? What banner/sigil would Jack Bauer fly? I can’t think of Kiefer Sutherland without thinking The Lost Boys btw lol

  543. Ginevra,

If it were just for here I’d like to do it but I don’t care to have something attached to my Email address and following me around wherever I go 🙂

  544. Irishton,

I really believe in “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”, I don’t care it can be considered a cliche. On the other hand, I’m glad that you are living among people who share their emotions and are not afraid to open up. What you said about Ireland suit my image, created from books and films. Something to be admired, but certainly not easy to deal with.
I can’t even try to imagine how it is to witness your friends dying when you’re a teenager, I’m so sorry you had to experience this! No friend of mine has died, I lost only my grandma when I was teenager and my father during my adult age. Both of them had been so ill, that their death appeared to be merciful at those times.
But let’s not dwell on these dark thoughts any longer, shall we? Tell me how you would like the Boltons to die 😉

  545. Sister Kisser,

I’m glad that you and your truck are all right!
You certainly made me (more) curious about American Gods. I have never read anything by Gaiman, but I loved the film Stardust. Ginevra showed me a great list of books, and I should take the many great suggestions from there.

  546. Aryamad:
    Jack Bauer 24,

Yeah you got it! I’ll have to work on that tomorrow. Anything you want on it? What banner/sigil would Jack Bauer fly? I can’t think of Kiefer Sutherland without thinking The Lost Boys btw lol

Haha The Lost Boys! My favorite characters are Jon, Arya, and Oberyn so anything related to those characters 🙂

    Ygritte:
    Jack Bauer 24,

Nooo Jack, you should really keep that avatar

Yeah I’ve been using this one forever, I just thought a change going into Season 6 would be nice. I might still keep this one 🙂

  547. Aryamad,

You’re very sweet, lady of the avatars, to make sigils for the fellow fans. Arya is a great name. That’s a crazy idea: you can take it for good, I hear it can be done. Paperwork and fees, I suppose, but it’s worth to do it. I have a friend who emigrated in Canada and changed her first name. I’m sure it can be done in the States as well.
What’s the name and breed of your dog?

  548. Aryamad,

    Arya,
I was wondering, are you making these avatar pics for the posters through some other format besides having to sign up formally to the WordPress/Gravatar site? If so, would you mind doing one more? 🙂

  549. Sullied by Knight,

Yes that lol plus I loved Edmure’s expression when he got to see his new bride was quite acceptable after probably fearing the worst. I liked him and wondered what became of him after the RW.

  550. Aryamad:
    Jack Bauer 24,

Yeah you got it! I’ll have to work on that tomorrow. Anything you want on it? What banner/sigil would Jack Bauer fly? I can’t think of Kiefer Sutherland without thinking The Lost Boys btw lol

I Googled Kiefer (rhymes with reefer) and GoT and found this, http://cdn.images.express.co.uk/img/dynamic/79/590x/secondary/140937.jpg and a bunch of others from a movie I don’t remember Kiefer being in. Edit: Pompeii! That makes so much sense, now.

  551. Ygritte,

I get that, which is why I suggested creating a second, brand new email address just for here. I have my ginevrapotter email for here and similar places, and I forward that to my real name Gmail address so that I get both emails in the same place with two separate addresses. But if you aren’t comfortable with that, either, that is completely cool. Everyone recognizes the Ygritte name as you by now, anyway.

  552. Shy Lady Dragon,

Wow sorry didn’t realize I sounded that depressing and the Bolton’s Ramsay i would definitely have tortured and I don’t want to go into details and sound like a sick individual, roose I would let arya get him, I’m sure she would give him a good send off

  553. Irishton,

Sorry, I didn’t mean to upset you! Please excuse me. It’s not that I considered depressing what you were saying, I didn’t want you to relieve bad memories and feel the pain again. This site is for us to enjoy, not to make us feel sad… even if our beloved characters may die any time 🙂
I wouldn’t think you are a sick person by imagining a suitable punishment for Roose or Ramsay. Don’t forget that I admire GRRM’s work a lot, and it’s far from rainbows and unicorns. It has direwolves, dragons and long winters.

  554. Shy Lady Dragon,

No I wasn’t saying that you said I sounded depressing, I just wouldn’t usually talk about stuff like that on the internet and i thought I sounded depressing ,and Ramsey just deserves the worst fate imaginable, like he deserves to be begging and squealing, who do you reckon will be the one to kill Ramsey? Do you think it will be next season?

  555. Wimsey,

I dunno. I regularly have conversations with various friendship groups about things beyond the show (a lot easier now that we’re all more or less in the same position). I think GoT has become ‘Water-cooler’ TV now and is discussed a lot with the cross-over between casual and mroe hardcore fans being very common.

  556. Irishton,

I think they will keep Ramsay around for another season because they need villains, but his dad will kick the bucket, possibly because of Ramsay. Iwan is a great actor (I have seen him in Vicious and Misfits, two completely different characters, maybe you know those series), when I watch him play I have the same feeling like watching Lena: love the actor, hate the character. It’s interesting that Iwan wanted to play Jon’s part, but he didn’t get it. I can’t imagine him as Jon, even if Iwan has already played innocent and withdrawn characters.
I hope Ramsay will beg for mercy and Jon will swing the sword. But he’s a psychopath, who knows what he could do? Maybe he would laugh hysterically. I want Sansa to be avenged, I feel sorry for the girl (she has been tortured a lot), even if I can’t forget her role in Ned’s death. But I don’t think she will be the killer, Ramsay is in good shape (remember him hunting), even if he’s not tall and very strong.

  557. Shy Lady Dragon,

If you don’t read the Fionavar Tapestry FIRST on your list of reading….. *stomps foot* I will send Rygar after you!! 😛 Buttttttttbuttttttt it is just lovely and it will capture you right away and you will fall in love with Fionavar and so much more. Just say you will TRY and get it first? Hell, lie if you have to, it will make me feel better. LOL. *runs*

I really wish we had “like” button or a +1, as has been said repeatedly as about the first thing wants to have here. Doesn’t require a whole post just to say “I agree with you or like what you wrote”.

    But…

  559. JCDavis,

M’lady, I don’t like to lie. I’ll try Fionavar Tapestry – who’s the author? I have already begun reading a book from the 3 recommended by Ginevra and Sister Kisser encouraged me to begin American Gods, which I have bought some months ago. Tomorrow I’ll get that Carolyne Larrington book about GOT symbolism and historical influences. There are already books which wait to be read… but I intend to honour Fionavar.

  560. Shy Lady Dragon,

*blushes* Don’t mean to be so bossy. 🙂 But the author is Guy Gavriel Kay. You should be able to get them for Kindle or NOOK or used or new. Three books, The Summer Tree; The Wandering Fire; The Longest Road. When you have the time, my friend. Your plate is already full. But I do remember your promise to honor Fionavar and “what is written can never be taken back*. LOL A bit of a Davis family motto…which I just made up.

  561. Phew! I have some catching up to do! Let’s see if I can manage the replies in one go.

    Jack Bauer 24,

Ok! I will do my best to come up with something. 🙂

    Shy Lady Dragon,

It’s really no problem! I love making stuff for people online. It’s kinda fun for me to contribute what little I can to this site as I rarely get the time to read or reply to the massive amount of posts here. So sorry if I’m a bit slow submitting mine (work is a drag and all yadda yadda).

Oh, my dog’s name is actually Sandor! He’s a black lab (well he’s got 1/4 boxer or pit… who knows). His personality is nothing like The Hound though except for his great love of chicken. 🙂 Would love to get him a little sister pup named Arya. One day maybe!

    Ygritte,

I’d be happy to make you one also! 😀 Though I’m not sure if this site uses anything other than Gravatar for linking avatars. I’m going to second the suggestion Ginevra made that you should create a secondary dummy email just for this site. I just create the images and post them on the web for whoever to download. What you do with it after that is up to you really.

    And finally

    Ginevra,

Oh wow!! hahaha! Thanks for pointing that out! Amazing. I had no idea they were in Pompeii together. I haven’t seen the movie yet but maybe I should for giggles.

I think that covers everyone I needed to get back to?? That’s the most I’ve ever replied on this site. 😀

    More later perhaps…

Hmmm – my previous response to this seems to have evaporated into the ether when I hit the Post button. My apologies in advance if something very similar to what I am about to type reappears.

Considering that I am somewhat evangelical on the subject of Guy Gavriel Kay and always trying to nudge fantasy fans into checking out the amazing, beautifully written stories that unfold in his alternate histories on a planet much like Earth but with two moons, far be it from me to dissuade you from reading the Fionavar trilogy ASAP! It’s definitely a good place to start with GGK’s works, which get much darker as you go along.

But I will also recommend that you not wait too long before reading American Gods (my favorite novel of the millennium so far), since it is a dense and complex work that amply rewards slow, careful reading, with all its mythological/folkloric references. Like a very rich dark chocolate dessert, it is meant to be savored, a tiny spoonful at a time. I spent nearly a year reading it, taking lots of time to think about each section.

You do know that a cable TV version of American Gods is coming out on Starz, I think next year? They have started to announce the casting already.

  563. Shy Lady Dragon,

Yes there has been son subtle hints that roose may get it this year but I think we have 3 seasons left and there seems to be alot left to tell so I believe this year they will set things up for season 7 and battle for the dawn breaking into season 8 so maybe Ramsey gets it this year definitely if winterfell gets taken back I can’t see anywhere for him to go and hide, also just seen that fan made video posted recently absolutely loved it, well made

  564. Jack Bauer 24,
    Ygritte,

In the end I wasn’t 100% sure what I should make for you two lol… I slapped a slightly modified Lost Boys movie quote (“Braavos” was originally “Phoenix”) in the Jack Bauer 24 avatars. Thought it was appropriate. Couldn’t decide which Jon picture to use so you get two. Ygritte, you get a little more color. 🙂 I could do better if I knew everyone’s personality but I don’t so there you go! Enjoy! 😀

Thank you! They look great 🙂

  566. Aryamad,

Beautiful, congratulations! You’re an artist and one with the sense of humour.
Your dog with a well chosen name must be proud of you 😉

  567. The first sword of Ireland,

Fan made trailers are amazing, I have recently seen 3, I liked them a lot. Many talented people here. BTW, fine choice of user name!
You have a point about the Boltons: if Winterfell is taken, Ramsay has no place to hide and I’ll be glad to see him bite the dust. In this case, they should keep Roose – which is another great actor – but I can’t imagine how. Maybe he is away when Winterfell is conquered? Then who’s the second body on the cross?
I have finally seen the history of Westeros video, which was well done. I enjoyed listening to familiar voices (I immediately recognized Michelle Fairley and Charles Dance) and the characters keeping their subjectivity was a good idea.

  568. Aryamad,

Don’t expect too much from Pompeii and you won’t be disappointed – I did and I was. Just think of it as a film fun to watch and an opportunity to see Kit and Kiefer.
