First Game of Thrones Season 7 Promo Pics!

GoT-Sn7_FirstLook_11

First, the infamous slowly melting ice block provided us with a July 16 premiere date and an evocative teaser of all the Houses of Westeros falling down to the White Walkers. Then, another teaser showed us the main players in the game of thrones… and the ultimate threat. All this time, we have been waiting for a trailer — But, before that happens, we always get a handful of promotional pictures from the incoming season. And this year was no exception. Feast your eyes on the first official look at season seven!

HBO released 15 photographs, which give us our best look at the new costumes, locations and situations our favorite characters will be involved with in season seven. Anyway, who is reading this instead of skipping ahead? Enough preamble:

Oh God, that picture of Littlefinger and Sansa. UGHHHHHHHHHHHHH I HATE LF SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Brienne and Tormund meet again! And judging from that look, neither time nor distance have dimmed his affections …

    Everyone looks freaking great.

  3. Yes Get Hype people!!Love it they all look great! And is my boy Jon looking at his mom in the crypts?I’m gonna cry so much!

  4. So awesome, and is Jon in the Winterfell crypt ?
    The Hound looks so Awesome!!!!!
And is that Widows Wail/valyrian steel blade the Jamie is carrying?

  5. All that dragging Bran around must be a great full-body workout for Meera.

I see Gilly got into the Citadel proper, from the looks of it.

I’m not sure if it’s the hairstyle, but Sophie’s wig doesn’t look good in that image. But then, bad wigs are to be expected on this show.

Lyanna Mormont gets her own promo picture — the girl’s on the rise.

  6. All the pictures look fabulous, especially Jon (my bias). Sansa needs to smack LF. I love that they chose that Tormund pic to share! Davos looks like he’s sitting at the head table. Now, how long until someone zooms in and figures out what Gilly is reading?

  7. Luka, I think the pictures are a bit too heavy to load or something is wrong with my computer. You better had posted links to the HQ-versions. But thank you very much for putting them online!

Can someone read what Gilly is reading? I think I see ‘prophecy’ and ‘Valyria’ and ‘age’.

  8. I’m REALLY digging all these Northern, Ned Stark style cloaks.

How does Gilly get in the citadel?!

  9. Meera breaks my heart. So excited Tormund finally gets the courage to approach Brienne. The Hound in the North is everything. Errbody in fur. Davos taking his seat as Jon’s most trusted advisor. Gilly reading about Valyria. Sansa ain’t playin’. Arya is interesting in a warm place. Varys schemin’. Jon is either in the crypt or in

Dragonstone looking at Dany sitting on her throne.
  10. As the website is now running SLOW, someone else might have posted this by now but Gilly is reading about Azor Ahai!

  11. As the website is now running SLOWLY, someone else might have posted this by now, but Gilly is reading about Azor Ahai!

  12. are Jon Snow really standing in the crypts of Winterfell??
    where his mother is buried?

    someone please stop cutting onions

  13. Trying to read what Gilly is reading:
    Who fought against …

    … have been performed …
    … the … of Valyria …
    … age when …
    First …
    … legend …
… Ashai … and the followers
Of the lord of light claim that

    … prophecy … In the
    Jade compendium …

  14. Tormund and Brienne together! Lol
Arya still at The Twins? It´s looks like it by the colours.
Littlefinger is up to no good.
    MVP Lyanna and the Hound!

    Hype train!!

  15. Omg!!!! The Hound is makin his way North! I love it. Hope there’s a wolf and hound reunion. And Damon littlefinger creepin around Winterfell. Don’t fall for his poisoned words Sansa!!

  16. Chilli,

It seems to be an excerpt from The World of Ice and Fire

It is also written that there are annals in Asshai of such a darkness, and of a hero who fought against it with a red sword. His deeds are said to have been performed before the rise of Valyria, in the earliest age when Old Ghis was first forming its empire. This legend has spread west from Asshai, and the followers of R’hllor claim that this hero was named Azor Ahai, and prophesy his return. In the Jade Compendium, Colloquo Votar recounts a curious legend from Yi Ti, which states that the sun hid its face from the earth for a lifetime, ashamed at something none could discover, and that disaster was averted only by the deeds of a woman with a monkey’s tail.

  17. I can’t stand it !!!! I love this story so much and I love all the characters including the clear ”baddies” like Cersei and LF. This show is the closest I have ever come to understanding the ”Love your enemies” philosophy. Thank you so much Grr Martin. Now please finish the books !! P.S. Sansa’s wig looks fine IMO. Her hair looks flat on top and why not, considering she is not supposed to have stylists, etc.

  18. Sean C.: All that dragging Bran around must be a great full-body workout for Meera.

It’s not just Bran in that sledge – he’s got a souvenir evergreen tucked in beside him as well, it appears!

  19. I can’t seem to download all of the pictures either, but initial impressions:

    • Like her no-look hand-wave off of her advisers in E7 last season, can’t Lyanna Mormont do a no-look backhand stab and skewer Littlefinger? Hate to see that weasel standing behind her.

•. I was half-expecting the Meera-dragging-Bran picture to have a sarcastic caption: “Gee thanks Uncle Benjen.”

    • Doesn’t The Hound look f-cking fierce?

  20. Wouldn’t it be fantastic if Gilly was the one who discovered something major in the texts? ?

  21. H.Stark: Arya still at The Twins? It´s looks like it by the colours.

Or is she at an inn? In the foreground, she seems to be looking up at the person who is proffering a tray of pasties…that is to say, hot pies…

Or maybe they’re just leftover Frey Pies. Old Walder didn’t eat much.

  22. So happy for the new pictures, they are exactly what I have needed this evening.
Poor Meera would better be helped by some Castle Black people or she’ll get bigger muscles than the Mountain.
Houndie (thanks, Pigeon, for the affectionate nickname!) is going north, good for him!
Tormund is joyful and confident, hilarious scenes to expect. I urge Jaime to leave Cersei at once.
What’s in front of Arya? A crossbow?

  23. How Tormund is looking at Brienne is how I looked at this article when I saw it.

Also Jon in the Winterfell crypts…. so many feels….

  24. can anyone make out what gilly is reading?
i think what i can see is

    “—– who fought against it——–
    ———————————-
    ——– have been performed —-
the ————— of valyria in the
————- age when old ghis —
    —————————

    —————- named azor ahia
—– and —– by—— in the
    Jade —————————-

    any help finishing it?

  25. Sweet! Looking at these I started thinking of how ‘choppy’ the trailer is going to have to be to not give away any big spoilers. I mean, we viewers aren’t really suppose to know who meets who and all that. Due to filming spoilers many of us do, but still, I can’t imagine they’ll put too much in a trailer.

    – The first two pictures with Daenerys and Cersei & Jaime look as if they’re meeting people in their respective throne rooms.
    – Lyanna’s pic looks just like if it had been taken in the final Winterfell scene last year, complete with sinister Littlefinger skulking against the wall.
    – Davos. It appears to me like the head table is raised as if dais is back in the Great Room.
    – Sam and Gilly. It’s going to be different seeing Sam in a Novice and/or Acolyte outfit. Gilly is going to be a learned lady soon.
    – Yeh! More hilarious oggling from Tormund!
    – More creepy Baelish and smug Sansa. >.>
    – Sandor looks like a guy ready to give us lots of lines about the fookin’ cold.
    – Now THIS picture of Jon does actually look like it could be the Crypts. If so I would say it’s more likely he’s visiting for his “father” and “brothers,” assuming they got their shrines set up after retaking. He could just be ‘somewhere else’ that’s rather dark… He’s dressed pretty formal for walking around Winterfell…
    – Arya. Does it look like she’s at an inn? Maybe we will get more Hot Pie.
The rest are Daeny’s crew. What are they looking at or waiting for while standing in formation? I have a guess from filming spoilers but not sure it fits with what we saw. huh.

  26. Lol, Varys looks like he just stuffed a wolf inside his robe and is trying to hide it from everyone.

  27. Hallelujah! Next best thing to a proper trailer. It’s nice to see Sam in a maester’s robe. Love how everyone else is dressed for the cold, especially Sandor in the snow Wonder who the soldiers with him are. Are those tears in Arya’s eyes and what are she and the two guys behind her are looking at? Maybe someone just mentioned Jon taking Winterfell. For that matter, I’m curious as to what several people are looking at–Varys, Jon, Cersei and Jaime, Littlefinger and Sansa (whose wig IMO looks like a wig). At least we know what Tormund is looking at!

  28. The costume department must have been very busy with cloak making this past year.

In my opinion, I dont think the Drangstone crew’s clothes really works within Westeros. Their garments appears like clothes that could also easily work for a sci-fi drama. Then again perhaps that is the idea since they are a foreign army.

It is nice to see Brienne and Tormund together again.

  29. I find it funny actually that a show with tremendous cinematography, VFX and locations just can’t get wigs right. Sansa’s looks odd to me. It’s not the worst in the history of the show and it’s not terrible, but it’s not good either. It’s noticeable, as in my opinion, Sansa does look different.

  30. Tormund turning on the charm for Brienne makes my day. And what fun to see Team Dany in tweeds, and Sam in something besides black for a change!

One would think that Varys would go for bright colors in wool, as he does in silks, though. Never has he looked so somber.

  31. Hi All, long-time lurker, first time poster!

Just noticed in the picture of Dany and the gang, Varys is wearing his usual silky cloak (chilly but not cold), but in the individual shot, he is wearing furs. Does he go north this season???

  32. Stark Raven’ Rad,

I too was curious about the soldiers with Sandor. It looks to me like they each have a different style helmet. Therefore, I’m guessing they’re from the Brotherhood Without Banners (which Beric described as the ragtag group of ex-soldiers and civilians from various factions).

  33. I thought the Tormund flirting at Brienne thing made some sense given that the wildlings have strong warrior women so it makes sense that he’d actually not find her off-putting or silly….nonetheless I fear they overplayed that last season. I mean it was good as a one-off joke but I fear they’re over-using it now. I hope this is similarly just a one-off joke.

No f-ing idea what Brienne’s storyline is now, it was absurd to cut Stoneheart.

World of Ice and Fire being read by Gilly!

The other images are pleasant but nothing we haven’t seen before too much.

  34. Chilli,

As much as I could get out of it:
“… have been performed…. the rule of Valyria in the … age when Old Ghis… Asshai and the followers of the Lord of Light claim that the hero … named Azor Ahai and prophecy… return. In the Jade Compendium, … legend from Yi Ti.”

  35. Pigeon,

The Legacy of the Princess Shireen:

First she teaches Davos to read, enabling him to inform Stannis about Maester Aemon’s plea for help.

Then she teaches Gilly how to read, enabling her to discover …….?

  36. The Dragon Demands:
I thought the Tormund flirting at Brienne thing made some sense given that the wildlings have strong warrior women so it makes sense that he’d actually not find her off-putting or silly….nonetheless I fear they overplayed that last season.I mean it was good as a one-off joke but I fear they’re over-using it now.I hope this is similarly just a one-off joke.

It kind of makes me uncomfortable, almost as though the idea of someone being attracted to Brienne is laughable. The fact that Brienne’s obvious discomfort is played for laughs and kind of brushed aside by the fandom is also rather unnerving.

  37. Dani with an I,
Hi Dani with an I, Jay Targ discovered that it’s an excerpt from the World of Ice and Fire.

Jay Targ: It is also written that there are annals in Asshai of such a darkness, and of a hero who fought against it with a red sword. 38. Daenerys’ outfit looks like something out of a sci-fi movie… maybe Star Wars, even.

I love Sansa’s expression here. Is she bitter about Jon being chosen as KiTN? Is she trying to play Littlefinger? Or is she simply trying to resist his lies and promises?

I can’t wait until this season airs.

  39. Ig Stark,

IMO, it has been pretty obvious that it will be Gilly who is going to discover something crucial reading old texts with a fresh eye since they showed us that scene on the boat where she talked about see/sea. And some fans said it was boring – SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! I guess she will discover some spelling error or misinterpretaition of some text – something that really happens when issues are addressed by curious newcommers without conventional education. So, keep reading, Gilly! And what a pitty that they have no Nobel price in Westeros.

  40. Is Sansa wearing an armor-like piece of clothing around her waist or am I seeing things? Doesn’t seem very Sansa-like.

  41. The Dragon Demands,

I hope they continue with it just because it annoys you and anything that annoys you is heaven to me also glad that they cut Stoneheart because she was a shitty character from a shitty storyline .

  42. I think I can fill in the gaps:

  43. So Gilly ghost wrote The World of Ice and Fire!!! Can’t wait to see what else she reads at the Citadel har har.

JON IN THE CRYPTS I’M CRY!!!!! FAAAAMMM!!! D&D are going to milk this scene and probably give us a “look at Jon paying his respects to his aunt who he doesn’t know is his mother” scene! Yes pander to me!

Littlefinger already working his magic on Salsa. Barf.

Arya is definitely watching GoT at the Burlington Bar.

Davos has a new coat!! HA!! YES!!! Pander to me 2.0

    Hound looks cold.

Poor Meera. Her arm muscles must be stronger than The Mountain’s.

CERSEI MY LOVE!! SHE IS BEAUTY SHE IS GRACE!!

  44. Sundae:
are Jon Snow really standing in the crypts of Winterfell??
    where his mother is buried?

    someone please stop cutting onions

Looks like the crypts for sure. I’m guessing Jon is likely looking at Ned and/or Robs crypt statues, which if I had to guess he and Sansa had them built as soon as they took back Winterfell. He might be looking at the completed product, which I’m sure is an emotional scene in itself signifying that they had finally avenged their family and put them to rest.

Although I can’t recall if Rob was technically ever considered the Lord of Winterfell before he left.

  45. orange:
I find it funny actually that a show with tremendous cinematography, VFX and locations just can’t get wigs right. Sansa’s looks odd to me. It’s not the worst in the history of the show and it’s not terrible, but it’s not good either. It’s noticeable, as in my opinion, Sansa does look different.

Her wig looks a bit thin.
As far as the picture, she looks older, down right serious more QO thornish; which the Starks need in my opinion a Northern QOT.
    Wonder what LF is saying.

  46. Omg!!! These are awesome! Yay for an image of Torienne and the Hound (hide the chicken)! Jon really looks like he’s in the crypts in that image. And I’m guessing the one of Bran and Meera is them approaching the wall. I wonder what team Dany is looking at in that last picture?

  47. Wait, wait, wait…. IF that is a picture of Arya at an inn… could she and the men in the background be watching Ed Sheeran’s cameo character performing a song!? Her expression looks to be like she could be learning or feeling something through the words of a minstrel. Hmmm

  48. whateverdgaf,

Please don’t try to make yet another sexist argument when there is no reason to,i hate when people do that . Most of the fans saw a few cute interactions between two minor but beloved characters that may lead or not to a relashionship,i don’t know where this idea of yours came from but it’s ridiculous . It’s like some people are watching a different show since they have so many wrong conceptions and thoughts about it .

  49. Pigeon,

Bless Gilly! I’d die laughing if D&D pack the biggest reveals in the Sam and Gilly scenes people always complain about. Let’s see who pays attention ha!

  50. Dawn:
Is Sansa wearing an armor-like piece of clothing around her waist or am I seeing things? Doesn’t seem very Sansa-like.

Looks leathery, she does have her needle chain which she wears in most LF scenes .
Very serious looking, maybe not happy Jon is leaving.

  51. If somebody had told me I’d be this underwhelmed by promo photos so close to the end, I’d have called them insane.

But I look at the pictures now and they remind me of just how simple and straightforward the endgame is shaping up to be.

All protagonists so conveniently alligned. The goodguysclub up north

currently has only one truly morally compromised character and If the leaks are correct, he too is gone by season’s end.
Not to mention the Tyrells and the Martells are conveniently eliminated from team Dany so as to avoid any conflict and tainting the camp with moral ambiguity.

I still can’t believe a compelling story with this much promise may ultimately amount to cheap good vs evil drivel. At this point, with the show drawing to its close, some of us are headed for either the most original and genius subversion of a fantasy trope ever or an absurd disappointment of epic proportions.

  52. Good Lord. I’m going to have to change my screen name to Houndish.

Seriously, tho… Must echo everyone else’s comments. Fabulous!

  53. Kosten,

Well apparently this person has already seen the end before all of us since you know exactly how the ending it’s going to go down, thank you,i guess it’s too bad for you it’s the only ending you are going to get .

  54. Genghis Khan,

I’m not saying anything about sexism, I’m pointing out that Brienne is uncomfortable in all of those scenes, which is pretty evident, and from Brienne’s pov it probably wasn’t all that cute.

  55. whateverdgaf,

It’s not like this trope where one of the parties feels somewhat creeped ouy by the other party hasn’t been played down countless times in movies or tv shows before and then they eventually fall in love,i’m not saying that’s what’s going to happen,i just don’t think it’s as serious as you think it is .

  56. Yes! That’s the sutff! All of them are looking stunning in their Winter garb. and I love how Jon is looking wonderfully vulnerable in this pic. At first I thought he was in the Wall’s tunnel due to the white light effect in the background, but I am gonna have to agree with everyone here & it looks like he is in the Winterfell crypts.
Sansa’s wig is a bit distracting & I’m gonna really miss the badass “stark” braids she was rocking last year.
Both Arya & Hound are very much in north & are bound to run into each other (hopefully). Looks like Davos is the hand of the king,or its equivalent & rightfully so.
Tormund eyeing Brienne is simply delicious.

And It appears Team Dany is ready to meet someone who we really wanted her to meet. 98 days huh? what a torture!

  57. I’ve got an idea: Why don’t we try disagreeing in a civil manner and not get into ad hominem attacks, okay?

  58. Kosten,

Isn’t it just a bit premature to anticipate disappointment with the ending, based on a few promo pictures ? I certainly don’t expect the still pictures to capture big dramatic moments.

Let’s all have fun speculating about what the characters are up to.

  59. Firannion:
I’ve got an idea: Why don’t we try disagreeing in a civil manner and not get into ad hominem attacks, okay?

I tried this tactic in 1993 and things only got worse.

  60. Arya appears to be waiting for her order to arrive at Hot Pie’s Bake ‘n’ Brew.

  61. Dawn,

The costume designer says that they are going for a colder, harsher feel to the costumes this season, which is why everyone is in black,
It’s quite interesting that Sansa is wearing armored clothing as Cersei herself does, it could be a sign that Sansa is growing more like Cersei. Although Dany has also worn armor with her clothes, so the designers could just be trying to link all of the three characters.

  62. Catspaw Assassin:
Arya appears to be waiting for her order to arrive at Hot Pie’s Bake ‘n’ Brew.

That’s my hope. I don’t want to see her hanging around at the Twins too much longer. She has places to go, people to meet, hopefully not too many more pairs of eyes to shut forever.

  63. Damn, the photo of Cersei on the Iron Throne with Jaime is PERFECT. Also love Daenerys standing in the Dragonstone throne room, and Jon in (what appears to be) Winterfell’s crypts… which makes me wonder if they redesigned Lyanna’s statue for Season 7. The one in “Winter Is Coming” doesn’t look like Aisling Franciosi, but that could easily be blamed on the sculptor. Either way, Jon visiting his mother’s statue will be an incredibly emotional scene.

Also, here’s the link to all the photos if you want to download them or are having trouble viewing them here: http://www.makinggameofthrones.com/production-diary/get-look-exclusive-photos-game-of-thrones-season-7

  64. I’m sure everyone noticed this… The picture of Daenerys and advisors with unsullied looks like it’s from right away in the season or very early. Neither Daenerys or Missandei are wearing their dragon clasp one-shoulder capes and Varys is still wearing his lighter robe from S6. It’s as if they’ve just recently arrived at a new location. Their individual pictures show the changes.

  65. Catspaw Assassin:
Arya appears to be waiting for her order to arrive at Hot Pie’s Bake ‘n’ Brew.

    Is that a 4/20 joke? j/k 🙂
I’ve talked myself into total belief that she’s watching Sheeran crooning to the crowd.

  66. Is just me or someone else thinks that Jon is in the crypts of Winterfell? Maybe Looking to his mother statue? I’M DYING.

  67. The pics took forever to download… I thought I was going to have an anxiety attack!!

    I don’t like Jamie being beside Cersei…

I don’t like the smugness in LF’s face (who am I kidding, I love to hate him because of that!)

Tormund and Brienne!! The love story continues and I couldn’t be happier!! 🙂

    Where is Arya? Winterfell?

    The Hound in the North!!!

    Oh, the excitement!!!

  68. Holy SHIT Dany is bringing some Targaryen Realness. Ung. My gurl so Fierce going to FUCK UP WESTEROS (in a good way).

Jaime, GTFO of there and get your ass north with erryone else. Cersei can explode Westeros without your help.

Where the f is Arya supposed to be wait don’t tell me if you know leaks/spoilers!.

Ok I don’t even like Jon that much but he looks awesome.

LF needs a push off that balcony go Sansa go. Maybe The Hound in the North will help out.

Hop3 Torienne continues to be an effective device for Brienne to figure out how she feels about Jaime – as well as flipping hilarious.

  69. I know others have mentioned it, but I’m intruiged by the Arya pic… she’s obviously in an Inn/Tavern- hopefully we’ll get a hotpie reunion??!

And the guys behind her seem to be looking at the same thing.. could they all be part of the same group?

Also-Meera and Bran look to be at the Wall here, as the Wall gate has a long ridge that stretches out to the forest. Guessing Benjen got them there safely, but Meera does look troubled instead of relieved, and Bran looks like he may be in a vision/warging. I wonder if something had happened to them as they reach the Wall?

  70. GeekFurious,

LMAO!!! (Albeit the sort of laugh that sticks in one’s throat.)

In that vein (and this is not directed at GeekFurious), it never occurred to me that Brienne was “creeped out” by Tormund. My impression was that she was very defensive because she’s never experienced having a man view her with open admiration and lust. I thought she simply misunderstood his reaction(s) to her.

On another note… Yes, it appears that the super-high-res photos are the ones that were uploaded to the site. It’s taking forever for me to load WotW right now, and I’m (ahem) at work, where our servers are really fast because lots of people are doing GIS work.

  71. whateverdgaf: It kind of makes me uncomfortable, almost as though the idea of someone being attracted to Brienne is laughable. The fact that Brienne’s obvious discomfort is played for laughs and kind of brushed aside by the fandom is also rather unnerving.

Eh, I don’t think it’s played for laughs cuz Brienne is “ugly”. It’s played for Laughs because Tormund is rude, carnal, and lustful while Brienne is polite, reserved, and dignified. It’s a clash of cultures thing.

  72. whateverdgaf:
    QueenofThrones,
I reckon that Tormund is going to be a Hyle Hunt stand in. I just really hope we can see Jaime get all jealous.

Yea he’s Hyle Hunt except 100x more awesome – but with as little chance of success… 🙁

    A Dornish Tyrell:
    QueenofThrones,
Hopefully, the Hound in the North will inform Sansa of LF’s involvement in the downfall of her father… and she’ll take her revenge.

I hope you’re right. I’m so nervous tho!

  73. Flayed Potatoes:
    Pigeon,

Bless Gilly! I’d die laughing if D&D pack the biggest reveals in the Sam and Gilly scenes people always complain about. Let’s see who pays attention ha!

    Ten Bears:
    Pigeon,

The Legacy of the Princess Shireen:

First she teaches Davos to read, enabling him to inform Stannis about Maester Aemon’s plea for help.

Then she teaches Gilly how to read, enabling her to discover …….?

    I just love it! ?

  74. A Dornish Tyrell:
    QueenofThrones,

Hopefully, the Hound in the North will inform Sansa of LF’s involvement in the downfall of her father… and she’ll take her revenge.

I could very well be wrong but I don’t expect the Brotherhood to ride into Winterfell. They are after all still a band of outlaws and deserters doing pretty much whatever they want. If their goal IS actually to ride for the Wall to fight “Winter,” then I’d think they’d head directly there. The NW shouldn’t turn away willing assistance at this time.

  76. Firannion: That’s my hope. I don’t want to see her hanging around at the Twins too much longer. She has places to go, people to meet, hopefully not too many more pairs of eyes to shut forever.

And raves to get down and funky at… Oh wait, I was confusing Maisie with her character. But on second thought party hardy Arya, you’ve earned it! 😉

Clob: Is that a 4/20 joke?

If it isn’t it should be. 😉

  77. QueenofThrones: Eh, I don’t think it’s played for laughs cuz Brienne is “ugly”. It’s played for Laughs because Tormund is rude, carnal, and lustful while Brienne is polite, reserved, and dignified. It’s a clash of cultures thing.

It’s partly that, but partly also because in the past, the only times that men have pretended to be attracted to Brienne, it was in mockery. So she naturally doesn’t trust Tormund’s motives. Being pursued out of sincere interest is outside her experience. But for a Wildling, being attracted to a brawny warrior woman seems perfectly natural. So they are completely unable to communicate. Therein lies the humor.

  78. My man has the hots for Bri!!! ❤️

    T2,

Camera director if you ask me, that “plays” the other person of the scene. Otherwise I think the person Maisie would look at would be in the photo and camera would go wide to catch the scene.

I turned into a #HypeKiller! ?? but incredibly smart zooming and catch from you. Kudos.

  79. On further inspection, those do look like bakery items on a tray before Arya.

Holy cannoli, Hot Pie is the Confectioner Who Was Promised!!!

  80. Flayed Potatoes:
JON IN THE CRYPTS I’M CRY!!!!! FAAAAMMM!!! D&D are going to milk this scene and probably give us a “look at Jon paying his respects to his aunt who he doesn’t know is his mother” scene! Yes pander to me.

Arya is definitely watching GoT at the Burlington Bar.

Davos has a new coat!! HA!! YES!!! Pander to me 2.

Davos deserved (desperately needed) some new threads. And while I’m not convinced Jon is in the crypts, I want to believe! Pander to me as well.

Your Burlington Bar remark made me laugh. Yes! I’m oddly obsessed with those videos. I watch GoT with only my stoic husband. Rarely a sound or displayed emotion. There’s something deeply satisfying about watching a roomful of people cheer, laugh, hiss, and curse at this show. Then, I realize I’m watching a video of people watching TV, and I wonder what’s wrong with me. Anyway, I hope Arya is having some of Hot Pie’s hot pies with exceptional gravy. And why did that sound dirty?

  81. Caught a case of the “allergies” when I realized Jon is most likely in the crypts paying respects to Starks passed on.

    HYPE AF!

  82. Ali Oop,

Welcome to the Wall, first time poster long time lurker.

Huh, didn’t realize until I read your comment. Definitely everyone is dressed for winter but I just assumed it’s because winter is coming not because they all go North. Then again, who knows?! I mean I didn’t expect “Sandor in the Snow” pic. And I doubt snow has arrived in KL or Riverlands. He’s probably going North himself.

Cool idea though, Varys going north into Stark territory could mean a Varys/ LF interaction! That would make me a happy camper!☺️

  83. Super Northener: Is Sam reading The Winds of Winter?

It doesn’t have “All work and no play makes George a dull boy” written repeatedly, so, no, probably not….

Clob: If their goal IS actually to ride for the Wall to fight “Winter,” then I’d think they’d head directly there. The NW shouldn’t turn away willing assistance at this time.

Wouldn’t Winterfell be on the roads going to the Wall? Besides, mightn’t R’hllor direct them (or direct Thoros) to Winterfell regardless? They are, as they so fondly stress, merely its servants.

  84. As I have written before, I will write again! Please book mark this discussion and post the link the next time someone disses Melisandre for not correctly working out what R’hllor’s teaser trailers mean….

    😀

  85. Looking more closely at the Bran & Meera pic, it looks like their heads were pasted onto a (very detailed) charcoal or pastel drawing. A lot of the photos look highly processed to give them a canvaslike texture, but that one looks the least photorealistic of them all.

  86. Jon Snow is looking more like his uncle Eddard Stark but I think in the promo pics for season 8 Jon

will have silver Targaryen hair and look more like his aunt Daenerys
  87. Chreechree: I realize I’m watching a video of people watching TV, and I wonder what’s wrong with me.

I never even considered watching reaction videos until the last couple of seasons. Last season it became a weekly favorite thing for me to do as I dug for every one that I could find. As a person that always watches GoT alone it’s fun to see everyone else have similar reactions to events.

One of my favorite scenes for reactions last year was Arya assassinating Walder. Some would be guessing it Arya in disguise but most were like, “who is this chick?” Then she’d pull the face off and everyone screamed, “ARYA!?!?! YES!!” Simply fantastic!

  88. firstone,

Why? No mechanism has been introduced for anything like that. At this point, if a mechanism has not been introduced, it is not going to happen.

  89. Chilli,

For the bottom part, I got :”… and the followers of the Lord of Light claim that … hero was named Azor Ahai and prophecy his return.”

If anyone has already answered, sorry. I might have missed the comment on this little thing. Don’t want to double up on the translation from screenshot to type.

  90. Clob: I could very well be wrong but I don’t expect the Brotherhood to ride into Winterfell. They are after all still a band of outlaws and deserters doing pretty much whatever they want.

Except the original core group that became the BwB rode out to seek the Mountain at the behest of Ned Stark. If they are loyal to anyone, it’s to the memory of Robert Baratheon and by extension, his Hand. They probably would expect Winterfell to receive them kindly, if any Great House would. It might not be a reasonable expectation, but in their own eyes they are not wrongdoers. You may be right that they would be more likely to ride straight for the Wall, but if they need shelter from Winter’s worst en route, there’s hardly a safer place for them to stop.

  91. Kosten: But I look at the pictures now and they remind me of just how simple and straightforward the endgame is shaping up to be.

The endgame is hardly shaping up to be “simple.” We’ve got enough cards on the table to pretty much rule that out at this point.

  92. Firannion: If they are loyal to anyone, it’s to the memory of Robert Baratheon and by extension, his Hand.

They are loyal to R’hllor, and they will go wherever Thoros thinks that R’hllor is directing them to go. Either Winterfell or the Wall would be a good bet: and given that Winterfell might be on the quickest route to the Wall, this could be one and the same, anyway!

  93. Ali Oop,

Welcome, Ali! Btw, you did read the “first timers will provide beer, wine and snacks for all” clause, no?

    😉

  94. Wimsey: It doesn’t have “All work and no play makes George a dull boy” written repeatedly, so, no, probably not….

Wouldn’t Winterfell be on the roads going to the Wall?Besides, mightn’t R’hllor direct them (or direct Thoros) to Winterfell regardless? They are, as they so fondly stress, merely its servants.

Well, Winterfell is along the Kingsroad but doesn’t mean they can’t skirt it. You may be right and they do go there. The show may have a story that it doesn’t matter who they are or what has been done and they simply ride in and say they’re there to help. I just don’t think the book Brotherhood would do that over going directly to the Night’s Watch. shrug

    spoiler stuff:

Leak stuff said they go to Eastwatch and are temporarily imprisoned. If that actually happens I wouldn’t think they’d come directly from Winterfell.
  95. Thoughts –

    * Jaime is still in the Lannister outfit we saw him wear for the siege of Riverrun, suggesting that Cersei doesn’t reinstate him to the KG. The picture suggests he remains by her side, but I really, really, really hope it isn’t for long!

    * LF is still hovering on the sidelines during councils of the Northern (and presumably Vale) Lords; I really want to see Lyanna Mormont take him down with a really cutting remark or stare. This girl can be as fierce as the Queen of Thorns, and I hope she shows LF that is the case! I also wonder what they are all discussing – there was a lot implied in what Jon said in the KiTN scene in 610, maybe this is him expanding on what he knows about the Night King?

    * Davos has some new clothes! Yippee!! Also – he seems to be sitting on Jon’s right, suggesting he will be the equivalent of Hand of the King. It will be interesting to see how the Northmen react to Jon’s chief adviser being from the south, and one so close to Stannis. My guess is that LF will try and Davos’s loyalty to Stannis against him.

*I love Sam and Gilly scenes. These two are adorable together, and I could never find them boring. They are one of the few couples in this world who are together out of genuine love and affection (no politics, money or power plays involved) and we need that!! I do like the idea of Gilly being the one to randomly read out something of great significance rather than Sam. This seems to be the season of new costumes – Sam has one too! He and Gilly also seem to be somewhere that isn’t the Citadel, so does Sam rent them a room at an inn or something?

*PLEASE let Meera and Bran be looking up at the Wall. I want them to pass through the Castle Black tunnel and meet Edd! Not sure if they will reference the raid on Craster’s, where Edd fought alongside Jon. If Bran saw and recognized Edd, that might be helpful.

*Squee at more Tormund/Brienne scenes – and it looks like they might actually exchange words in this one! Love these two together!

    * Very much on board with the Sansa making LF into a Myranda-esque splat!

    * Great to see the Hound in the North again. It is a lot colder than the last time he was there – take it he is surrounded by other BwB guys?

    * Jon……I so want this to be in the crypts and Jon looking up at Lyanna’s statue. This is so like the shot of Ned before her statue in the 101 crypt scene. But I think it more likely that Jon commissioned a statue of Ned or Rickon (we’re told in 609 they are/will be buried in the crypts) and this is him paying his respects or seeing it unveiled or something.

    * Looking at Arya’s surroundings, this seems like an inn. And I really, really want it to be the one where Hot Pie is so we can meet him again!! We haven’t seen him since season four, and it seems forever ago.

    * The Team Daenerys pictures are interesting – I wonder if the final one with all of them is Daenerys accepting the surrender of a castle garrison?

  96. Jay Targ:

    – TWOIAF Ancient History: The Long Night

There are enough words in common between what Gilly is reading and this to lead me to believe that quote from The World of Ice and Fire is exactly what Gilly has in her hand…Nice for D&D to plug another of George’s books. LOL

Jon is in the Winterfell crypts…Hmm…

Looks like Sansa is still humoring Littlefinger acting as her advisor…

  97. Firannion,

I thought it was Tywin and “the Crown” who condemned the BwB as “outlaws.” I’d think the now-independent North and King Jon would welcome them with open arms — that is, if they apologize to Princess Arya for selling her friends and stalling her return to her family.

  98. Pigeon:
Wouldn’t it be fantastic if Gilly was the one who discovered something major in the texts? ?

Just what I thought when I saw Gilly reading. Either in a text or about some gizmo in the library, Gilly will discover some important fact about the war to come – WW constitution, formula for Valyrian steel, recipe for a WW-melting type of fire – something to change the result to a WW defeat.

Also, Gilly may discover some secret about the maesters and their control of Westeros life. Somehow, Gilly will be instrumental in changing the power structure as the war concludes, if it does end.

Bittersweet: Gilly gets no credit for her achievements.

  99. The first photos that are released are almost ALWAYS all from the 1st episode of the season.

Jon is CLEARLY down in the Winterfell crypts paying his respects to his dead relatives (probably mostly Ned)- perhaps saying a few words about how he didn’t wish to become KITN yet here he is and he hopes he won’t let them down, or something along those lines. He’s dressed up so kingly though for just being home hanging around Winterfell, so maybe he is leaving on some mission?

I think Littlefinger is reminding Sansa the power she has as Lady of Winterfell and what she can do with it- especially if Jon is leaving. It looks like they’re watching something down in the courtyard- someone leaving, someone arriving? Wouldn’t she be in charge anytime Jon’s gone? Or maybe Davos would be? Sansa wouldn’t like that! Sansa, baby… please remember what you told Jon, “only a fool would trust Littlefinger”. Truer words have never been spoken!

And judging by the background, Arya is either at an inn on her way back to Winterfell, or she is still at The Twins and… wiping out even more Freys? I just want her to hurry up and get back home, dammit. Screw the Freys.

That’s all I got. The other pictures it’s impossible to guess the context…(well, the Sam and Gilly one is pretty straightforward, I guess). I can’t wait for the first trailer with actual season 7 footage! I’m thinking we will get it near the end of May. Yeeeeeeehaw!

  100. Wight knight:
Being this late in the game I hope littlefinger kicks the bucket this season. Though IF he does I expect he’ll be extra wormy and coniving.

As in Worm Tongue? Apt name.

  101. Firannion,

As for Bran and Meera, it looks like they are right outside the gate leading into the tunnel of Castle Black. There is a slope by their side and it looks exactly like the deepened path which leads to the gateway. So, I guess the picture is from Ep1. Other pictures should be from early episodes, too, as far as I could figure out from filming spoilers, except of the picture of Dany wearing the red cape (and I don’t know about Sam and Gilly). And Cersei looks to be accepting some visitor – probably Euron.

  102. Kosten,

“Absurd disappointment of epic proportions”? Why are some people so over the top dramatic? A TV show is a work of art, it is not meant to please everyone. Are you one of those people who are still whining about the ending of Lost?

  103. Ten Bears,

I don’t think apologies mean much or count for much in this show and no one really cares about them. It’s about actions. And I don’t think Arya is down for being called ”princess’

  104. Marlana,

No, not bittersweet bc Gilly doesn’t care about getting credit for her achievements. It’s neither in her personality nor in Samwell’s nor in Jon’s. You are projecting. Side note 1: It’s always the people who care so much to get credit for *their* achievements who like to project it on others. Side note 2: Do you really think that Gilly not getting credit for her achievements would constituted the ”bittersweet” ending that GRRM promised? How shallow.

  105. Marlana,

The text is the prophecy of azor ahai, she isnt a good reader so i feel like she is just reading or looking at stuff and discover jon is targaryan and that he is azor ahai!

  106. Clob, Pigeon,

I didn’t want to say it as there are some rabid loyal Sansa fans here (to each his/her own, of course) but I actually agree with this. XD

  107. Flayed Potatoes:
So Gilly ghost wrote The World of Ice and Fire!!! Can’t wait to see what else she reads at the Citadel.

I must say that I think it is really cool that she’s reading that IN THE SHOW. Well done D&D!

Teaser trailer at the end of May and full trailer at the end of June?

  108. Am i the only one who thinks the R+L=J was proven but not fully! We dont hear who the father is so…say if the mad king is jons father, that would make jon and daeny brother and sister and then hed have the rightful claim to the throne. If rhaeger is his father that would mean daeny is jons aunt which wouldnt she have the higher claim? The lineage im a little confused on. I would think because she is above him shed have right.

  109. Ig Stark,

If Gilly discovers info documented in books, that reveal would be more convincing than Bran saying, “I saw it while touching a tree.”

Another fact it would be interesting for Bran to discover, would be Cersei as mother to Gendry, who would then be heir to the throne but discarded by his mother. If Cersei is Gendry’s mother. Cersei did say she had a dark-haired boy who died, probably of being-Robert’s-son disease.

  110. Clob,

In fact, it would be quite logical for the Brotherhood to make a stop at Winterfell before going to the Wall: even if they miss Jon, they will know that Sansa is in charge, and the Hound should be interested to meet her etc.

    Reagardng LEAKS

I just wonder about the imprisonment of the Brotherhood: could it be the result of Littlefiger’s scheeming? The Hound will be a great risk to him; therefore he will be interested to take him out somehow. Maybe, he will tell Sansa that the Brotherhood was killing innocent people in the Riverlands or something and Sansa will arrest them end then the Brotherhood members will plea to be send to the Wall? Something along these lines looks rather possible.
  111. Love the look on Tormund! I hope those two get together and create Sir Duncan II.
The pics are great! I need more!

  112. Did previous Kings in the North/Kings of Winter have their own Hands of the King? Robb certainly didn’t. Thought it was just a Targ/Iron Throne thing, would he surprised if Jon actually names one for himself.

  113. Inga: something that really happens when issues are addressed by curious newcommers without conventional education

Creative juxtaposition of fresh eyes with uneducated world view. Looking forward to that.

  114. Inga,

No it does not, provided that Sansa knows that the Hound is with the BWB. Sandor saved her in KL and Sansa will remain loyal to him for that. Esepcially when it is LF who tries to turn her head.

  115. Boudica: Their garments appears like clothes that could also easily work for a sci-fi drama

Mayhaps ASoIaF turns into sci-fi with humans fighting fire-proof silicon-based beings whose body energy is disrupted by obsidian.

  116. Ig Stark: I think Varys will be the ultimate evil one in the end (out of the humans). Calling it.

There will not be any “evil” or “good” characters: it’s just not that sort of story.

  117. Zak: say if the mad king is jons father, that would make jon and daeny brother and sister and then hed have the rightful claim to the throne.

One, if that were the case, then we should have gotten some indication that this was even possible. However, insofar as we know, Aegon never saw Lyanna after Rhaegar ran off with her.

Two, Jon’s status is the same regardless. IF he is Rhaegar’s legitimate son, then he is ahead of his aunt on succession: the children of brothers come before sisters. IF Jon is Rhaegar’s bastard, then he is not anywhere in the succession and thus behind not just Daeny, but Jaime (who, it turns out, is Robert’s heir now that Robert’s brother’s and legal sons are dead) and then Tyrion, then Lannister cousins, then members of whichever house has the “backup heirs” for the Lannisters, etc…..

  118. Sundae:

are Jon Snow really standing in the crypts of Winterfell??
    where his mother is buried?

    someone please stop cutting onions

    PREACH

  119. Wimsey,

Really? So Joffrey wasn’t evil? So Ramsey wasn’t evil? So Cersei isn’t evil? So LF isn’t evil? It’s funny how ”there is no evil and no good” has become the flawed cliche of GOT. It`s false. There is good and evil (viz moral and immoral). The point of GOT (IMO) is that good (aka moral) characters can do bad or self-interested things and evil (aka immoral) can do things that benefit the greater good. GRRM, himself, said it. ”The good does not wash out the bad and neither does the bad wash out the good.” (Paraphrasing) It bothers me how people glibly parrot ”There is no good or evil in GOT. It is not that type of story” while the story does not bear that out in evidence at all.

And, yes, there are grey characters like Jaime, Varys, etc .. where you are not sure where they stand but certainly not all of them are like this. And even with Jaime, he is clearly following a redemption arc to become ”good”

It’s more complicated than people are 100% good or 100% evil. It’s also more complicated than ”no one is good or evil”

In particular, Ramsey was almost cartoonish in his evilness, closely followed by Joffrey. Jon Snow is, likewise, almost messianic in his goodness. Brienne is almost a perfect example of moral and good as well. I could go on and on.

  120. Jenny,

I feel like he’s in winterfells mess hall, it was about that dim when he rose as kind of the north….could be wrong tho

  121. Clob: she could be learning or feeling something through the words of a minstrel. Hmmm

First the impact of plays in Bravos, now effects wrought by musicians. Artists making the world a gentler place.

  122. Ig Stark: Really? So Joffrey wasn’t evil? So Ramsey wasn’t evil? So Cersei isn’t evil? So LF isn’t evil?

Joffery was a sociopath. Ramsey was a psychopath. Cersei is a less-than-bright bitch. LF is just a schemer.

Ig Stark: It’s also more complicated than ”no one is good or evil”

Given that there are no such things as “good” or “evil,” it is never so simple as those being parts of the equation. These notions are always based on simplistic moralities and are merely simple-minded ways of labeling things we like or dislike: when “evil” describes “unethical,” then it’s pure luck.

  123. Ig Stark,

There are instructions at the top how to cover with spoiler coding. It might take a few practice runs, but if a technomoron like me figure it out, anyone can. ? Also, if you “tried before but it did not work”, perhaps refraining until it does work might be the prudent way to go.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation.

  124. Zak,

I have just noticed that there is something more written at the bottom of the page Gilly is reading: not the caligraphic text, but some note left by some previous reader. Please, someone with high resolution screen check that out. My guess is that this note contains some major reveal.

  125. Isabelle,

From the lighting in that picture, it looks to me like Jon’s face is illuminated by candle light. Could/would that be a candle next to Lyanna Stark’s tomb? (I’m trying to remember if there were candles burning when Sansa went down there with WeaselFinger.)

  126. Wimsey,

Thank you for the euphemism, but believe me, “technopeasant” is too kind. I am the Orson Lannister of computer literacy.

  127. Clob,

Interesting that Missandei and Grey Worm are wearing Targ like something pins, tho not in the same photo, odd.

  128. Ten Bears: I am the Orson Lannister of computer literacy.

Anybody who can squash computer bugs the way that Orson squashed regular bugs is a technogod in my book.

  129. Seems Dany wears at least 4 different types of cape, tho the one in this DS Thrones Room shot looks different than the recent teaser.

  130. JohnDoe: Does anyone else think that Cersei is receiving Iron Bank representatives in that picture?

Looking into the flames….. nope, just you. And they must be correct: I mean, how many times has R’hllor resurrected you at this point?

  131. JoAnne O’Bar Legat,

Oh, I see! People will assume that the Hound is the same person who was killing peasants and septons in the Riverlands and

that’s why the BwB will get arrested and send to the Wall directly.
  132. Looks like the Hound might’ve been captured, but by whom? My guess is the Westeros Council of Chicken Pluckers, which has been after him like forevs.

  133. Wimsey: Joffery was a sociopath.Ramsey was a psychopath.Cersei is a less-than-bright bitch.LF is just a schemer.

Given that there are no such things as “good” or “evil,” it is never so simple as those being parts of the equation. These notions are always based on simplistic moralities and are merely simple-minded ways of labeling things we like or dislike: when “evil” describes “unethical,” then it’s pure luck.

Joffery was definitely a psychopath!!!!!! He was a mass murderer in waiting. Joffery liked killing animals and people for pleasure… example Ross… That’s another Littlefinger sin that LF should pay for.

  134. Stark Raven’ Rad,

About Arya picture: “Maybe someone just mentioned Jon taking Winterfell.”

Yeah. That’s my guess…or Arya learning that there’s been a regime change and they’re now governed by “King Jon.”
    “King who?” she asks.
Reply: “Jon Snow. The King in the North.”
(*Arya grasps Needle; her eyes start tearing… and so do mine.*)

    End FanFic

  135. Boojam,

Because she wears it to attach her cape. The pick of her with the pin you can cleary see the grey material of her cape, in the squad pic she’s not wearing her cape.

  136. JohnDoe:
Does anyone else think that Cersei is receiving Iron Bank representatives in that picture?

Well, Mark Gatiss did say he’s in two episodes this season, so it would be logical to assume that his two scenes are going to be with Jaime and/or Cersei, so I suppose it’s possible.

  137. Apollo,

Good point. And pay attention to the pattern at the bottom of the page Gilly is reading: IMO, it’s a family trea – you can see branches and numbers and names. So, it should be the Targarian family tree drawn by someone who red the Azor Ahai prophesy before and linked it to the Targarians.

  138. As much as I adore Lady Lyanna Mormont, enough with the speeches already, I wanna see her kneecap a mofo!

  139. Meera looks like she’d rather be managing the graveyard shift at a San Berdoo 7-Eleven than hauling Bran around one day longer. For their sake, here’s hoping they’re asking Dolorous Edd how much Castle Black charges for a night’s room and board in that shot.

  140. I don’t like Jamie with cersei.

And Jon my love. My everything. Lol
I am most excited to see what happens with him and with Dany as well
Well I am excited for all stories actually.

This is amazing. I can’t wait!!!!! But I also can…. because the sooner it starts the sooner it ends and the sooner the series finishes ?

  141. Rygritte: It looks like their living quarters.

Well, for prospective maesters that should still be within the confines of the Citadel, so for unknown reasons they are making an exception for her. One could think it’s an Inn adjacent to the Citadel, but I don’t think they would allow to check out books out if the Library, LOL Unless they are sneaking books out without authorization?

  142. Alba Stark,

    Re: Jon Pictture

    You wrote:
“Jon……I so want this to be in the crypts and Jon looking up at Lyanna’s statue. This is so like the shot of Ned before her statue in the 101 crypt scene. ”

    ———-
If you compare the picture to the candlelit scene in S5e4 of LF and Sansa in front of Lyanna Stark’s tomb, it certainly does look like Jon is standing in front of his mom’s tomb, with his face illuminated by candlelight.
The arched ceiling looks the same. At first I thought the background in the picture was an entrance in daylight, but I think it’s a candlelit passageway, just like in Sansa’s shot.

    What do you think ?

  143. Wimsey:
    Joffery was a sociopath.Ramsey was a psychopath.Cersei is a less-than-bright bitch.LF is just a schemer.

Littlefinger is a sociopath who has inflicted untold misery on Westeros to advance his own petty grudges and to benefit himself. He is evil. All of the people you list are evil, to one degree or another reveling in inflicting pain on others and caring about nobody but themselves.

Given that there are no such things as “good” or “evil,” it is never so simple as those being parts of the equation. These notions are always based on simplistic moralities and are merely simple-minded ways of labeling things we like or dislike: when “evil” describes “unethical,” then it’s pure luck.

The struggle to do good in a world that doesn’t necessarily reward it and where people are fallible, and to resist the seductiveness of cynicism and nihilism, is central to GRRM’s writing in the series. Martin’s heroes are always at their best when they manage it (The Hedge Knight, which isn’t part of the series proper, is perhaps the purest expression of this theme, though you see it as well in the stories of some of Ser Duncan’s presumed/confirmed descendants).

  144. Marlana: First the impact of plays in Bravos, now effects wrought by musicians.Artists making the world a gentler place.

As opposed to the books, in which there’s scarcely a minstrel or mummer who comes off as better than a total fool or scoundrel. (As someone whose favored character class in RPGs is always the Bard Guild, I took this a little too personally. What you got against buskers, George?)

  145. George: so it would be logical to assume that his two scenes are going to be with Jaime and/or Cersei,

How does that follow at all? If he’s in two scenes, then the only thing that we can conclude is that we will see him twice.

  146. Apollo,

Hey you’re right! Gilly’s brothers and nephews are White Walkers!

Forget “Stark Reunions.” It’s time for some weepy Craster sibling reunions.

  147. Pigeon,

Well, she was taught to read for a reason!

It was also set up on their boat.

Did I ever tell you I used to think the sea was called the see because it was nothing but water as far as the eye could see?

She understands prophesy. Looking at it from different angles.

  148. xSean C.: Littlefinger is a sociopath who has inflicted untold misery on Westeros to advance his own petty grudges and to benefit himself. He is evil. All of the people you list are evil, to one degree or another reveling in inflicting pain on others and caring about nobody but themselves.

Littlefinger is nothing like a sociopath. He is acutely aware of other people’s feelings and tendencies, and uses them to his advantage. He is striking back at a system that he perceives to have wronged him greatly. Calling that “evil” is totally subjective: given that the system is pretty oppressive, it’s certainly understandable.

Sociopaths and psychopaths like Joffery and Ramsay obviously cannot be called “evil” or “good” because they lack the ability to recognize what other people consider “right” or “wrong.” It is not that they deliberately choose to disobey some moral system: they simply can not grasp a moral system any more than a blind person can grasp color.

Sean C.: The struggle to do good in a world that doesn’t necessarily reward it and where people are fallible,

The worst people in history always were trying to do “good.” Again, what one moral system calls “good,” another calls “evil.” We see this in Game of Thrones, too: some of the worst acts are committed by people like Stannis and Tywin who “know” that they are doing the “right” thing when they do them. Heck, the only evidence we have for any real god rewards its followers for immolating people. What more “proof” can their be that an act is good than a reward from a god?

This is not Tolkien, where there is “good” and “evil”: Sauron never tried to claim that he was acting for “good”: he explicitly rejected “good” and embraced “evil.” Here, we have people struggling to work out what is right and wrong, and often running into the roadblock of having an action be “right” according to one “thou shalt always blah-di-blah” but wrong according to another “thou shalt always yadda-yadda-yadda.” Again, it bears noting that some of the greatest “wrongs” are committed by people who have the strongest surety that they are doing “right.”

Now, if you want to talk about ethical and unethical people, then that is another kettle of fish. Not only to all moral systems disagree with each other about what is “good” and “evil,” most moral systems consider some unethical behaviors “good” and some ethical behaviors “bad.” But even ethics really cannot apply to the sociopaths (e.g., Joffery) and psychopaths (e.g., Ramsay), or even the flat-out stupid (e.g., Cersei): a person who cannot consider another person’s point-of-view cannot discern an unethical action.

  149. Wimsey: How does that follow at all?If he’s in two scenes, then the only thing that we can conclude is that we will see him twice.

    Huh??
The Lannister/Crown debt to the bank has been mentioned several times in the show. Why the frak else would a bank representative show up in Westeros now? Logically they would meet with the Crown, no?

  150. AE:

I completely agree. I’ve often thought that, given what her life has been like, Gilly is one tough woman, as well as having a real desire to learn and understand. I think it gives her an advantage that she hasn’t been steeped in text for years – sometimes the newest eyes are the ones that see most clearly. ?

  151. YEESS!!! now the fun starts!! love these pics!! so much fun to figure out the whys and wheres and hows..

    1) Cersie hearing some bad news (a certian other queen making landfall not so far away?)

    2) Baby Bear doin her Thing.. this could totally be a shot from the “king in the north” scene from last season ..threw me for a minute

3)Davos!!! noticing the seat beside him (which I would think would be jons) is empty..wonder if this pic and Baby Bear pic are from same scene.. which maybe after

Jon heads north on his WW misson [\spoiler]

4)seriously love that it looks like gilly might actually be the one that figures something important out..Go Girl! princess shireen would be soo proud!

5)imma call it now.. Bran and Merra at arriving at the Wall

6)LOL Tormund still in love (on a more serious note, looks like they are at winterfell.. i see what could be a banner hanging behind tormund)

7)I forsee ALOT of sansa hate following this scene.. which most likely is her [spoiler] watching Jon leaving for Dragonstone

    and Littlefinger trying starting chaos

8)The Hound in The North! soo excited for this!

    9) this pic.. i cant even…. **sigh** I actually dont think he is in crypts.. appears to be daylight behind him..

    dragonstone maybe??

IF he is in the Crypts I think he is looking at Ned (not sure if Robb has a statue yet)

10)There’s our girl!! I am gonna agree with other posters, she has just found out Jon has been proclaimed KitN and she is gonna be riding for winterfell..FAST

11)She looks soo beautiful here..very regal..

this is either Jon/Dany scene ..(meeting for the first time?) or finding out about part of ironborn fleet being lost and Yara being taken prisoner by Euron

    12) prolly the most spoilerish of all the pics ..Vareys is in furs…suggesting at some point he isnt in the south anymore….veeerry interesting

13,14,15) good pics of Team Dany..obviously waiting to greet someone..
(I cant be the only one that tried to zoom in to see what was being reflected in Tryion’s eyes right? lol)

  152. Wimsey:

No, Littlefinger is making the world worse for pretty much everyone else in Westeros to better himself. He is responsible for the deaths of many, many thousands. He has murdered people who did nothing to him, engaged in sex trafficking, and a thousand other evil acts.

Sociopaths and psychopaths like Joffery and Ramsay obviously cannot be called “evil” or “good” because they lack the ability to recognize what other people consider “right” or “wrong.”It is not that they deliberately choose to disobey some moral system: they simply can not grasp a moral system any more than a blind person can grasp color.

They can be called evil, because they do evil, and take pleasure in it. Joffrey, at least, does have a moral system; that system is that he can do whatever he wants, and everyone exists to serve him. It’s the Lannister ideology.

The worst people in history always were trying to do “good.”

Not necessarily the case, and certainly not true of this series, where most of the main villains act primarily to gratify themselves. But regardless, it’s trite to say that good intentions can lead to bad results. Of course that can happen. Indeed, that’s part of the characters’ struggles. The point is to keep trying anyway, because GRRM’s work is profoundly humanist.

GRRM’s exploration of knighthood throughout these works is one of the best cases in point, as I said. Duncan the Tall is not a knight, but he strives to uphold the vows anyway, even as many of the people who take them fall short of its prescriptions or don’t even try. It’s the same with Dunk’s descendant Brienne, whose AFFC story takes her through the hellish Riverlands, encountering people abandoned by their supposed protectors. When she sees the horrors at Saltpans and hears that the knight who rules the town hid within his fortress while his people were slain, she says he should have tried to defend them, old though he was, even if it meant his death; and when she is put in the same position later in the novel, she puts her money where her mouth is and defends the orphan children at the Crossroads in what is, for my money, the most purely heroic action of the entire series. See also, the story of the Hound, who has has childish nihilism broken in the face of Sansa’s refusal to adopt it, and has to reckon with the things he’s been a part of as a result of suppressing his own moral understanding (a process that, in the books, we’ve yet to see the full result of).

Doing the right thing is hard, and often uncertain, but GRRM’s heroes try anyway, which is their great distinction.

  153. Inga,

Why would someone have read that prophecy before, and linked it to the Targaryans?

I don’t see anything in the transcriptions of Gilly’s paper, or Melisandre’s prior recitals on the show, that would hint at a Targaryan ancestry requirement. (In fact, some of the transcriptions of Gilly’s paper seem to suggest the “hero” lived before the rise of Valyria. ).

Is there really is a Targaryan family tree scribbled on the bottom of that page?

  154. Pigeon,

EXACTLY. She’s humble. Coming from a different part of the world, give her an “in” to understanding riddle-like prophesy. Also great just to show that you don’t have to be a Lady, to be smart and have something to offer the world.

  155. Stark Raven’ Rad: Are those tears in Arya’s eyes and what are she and the two guys behind her are looking at?

You can see in the reflection of her left eye that she’s looking at a man standing in front of a fireplace.

  156. Firannion,

Yes, the books are harsh on musicians. Cersei inflicts tortures and false accusations on the blue singer, Mance as minstrel is tortured by Bolton’s bastard, Tyrion instructs Bronn to lure and kill a bar singer. Minstrels are held up as buffoons in the contest of seven troubadours at the wedding feast. One wonders, what does GRRM have against vocal performers? I hope someone gets to ask him that at an appearance.

  157. Inga,

Interesting stuff. Too bad that the delightful Vincent Price isn’t around to make an appearance on the show. 😉

  158. Crazy Fan theory!! Why hasn’t anyone else mentioned all the characters that have their hands clasp… Davos, Bran (i’m sure they are clasp under that blanket, I studied that photo very closely), Sansa, Jon, Arya, Daeny, Varys … hmm, there are so many there must be some special meaning to it – these specific photos were chosen for a reason, right. I know, they are all the people who are going to survive to season 8! Yes!

All kidding aside, these photos were great to see and a fairly pleasant comments section too ^_^

  159. Ig Stark,

    Inga,

To me if Sansa had to choose to believe either Littlefinger or The Hound she would always believe The Hound 100%. Sansa knows LF lies and manipulates people, The Hound on the other hand has always been at times brutally honest with her. Not to mention in the books she quite a lot remembers The Hound fondly, so I think she would be quite happy to see him again.

  160. Wimsey,

I agree, GRRM has said before he doesn’t like the whole Good or Evil cliche, he won’t even consider the White Walkers evil. To him everyone is grey they all are in depth characters with strengths and flaws, some try to do good with bad consequences, others what they are doing it doesn’t quite register with them what they are doing is bad, some have mental conditions like sociopaths/psychopaths/dumbasses so they are unable to register what they are doing is bad, they do horrible things because they enjoy it but in their twisted minds it’s not evil to them it’s a desire or a necessity. No one is this perfect good guy more so in the books than the show, in the show they removed some problematic things characters did in the books.

  161. Boojam,

Your right, there was this brown cape dress I believe in the group photo when she first arrives at Dragonstone, during filming pics she wore a white cape, this one which I believe is the same in the Long Walk teaser or at least very similar but in the HBO add promo her outfit looks a lot like the black dress and red cape but a really winter version of it with the cape thicker and the neckline higher up and obvious wool inside the dress especially in the sleeves but from the picture in this bunch with her hands together it’s definitely obvious there is no wool in the sleeves.

  162. As much as we would all love Jon Snow to talk to who we know is his birth mother’s statue but I think it’s more likely if his in the crypts he went down to see Ned, Robb and Rickon it makes more sense for him to visit them then as far as his aware a aunt his never met. Though it might tease us a little by them having a shot of Lyanna’s statue and Jon glancing at it.

  163. Mel:

This is what I’m expecting, if he is in fact in the crypts. Just a sad passing glance from Jon at Lyanna’s statue or for them to have the statue in the background as he is visiting Ned or Robb’s tombs.

  164. I love how often Dany changes her dress styles, we used to get it from Sansa and Cersei too but I think they are both gonna wear the same kind of styles that they did from the last episode of last season with slight variations 🙁
Missandei and Greyworm both wearing the same dragon pins are utterly adorable, I love that.
From what we saw of the filming picture spoilers, that group picture of Team Dany just first arrive at Dragonstone and are admiring the view which is why their clothes don’t look as warm as they do in other pictures. When I first saw Dany wearing that brownish cape dress in the filming pics I wasn’t too sure about it but close up it actually really looks pretty damn good.

  165. I absolutely adore the look on Tormund’s face. I’m glad he and Brienne will interact again in S7. Also, they’re definitely in the WF courtyard and it looks like there is a Wildling behind them. Which makes me happy to know the Starks will continue to look out for the people who sacrificed much in order for them to retake they’re home.

Poor Meera, she looks exhausted. But also relieved, like she’s watching the gate at the Wall open and hopefully Edd coming out to offer assistance. Bran doesn’t look like he’s zoned out in a vision; he seems to be looking up at the Wall. I wonder if Bran will already know that Jon is no longer at Castle Black or if Edd will have to break the news to him.

Love love love that Davos is sitting at the high table (as befits his position as Jon’s most trusted adviser) and that he’s sporting a Northern-style cloak. I can’t quite make out the clothes underneath the cloak but they look new too.

Jaime, Jaime, Jaime. Sigh. What is it going to take for him to leave Cersei once and for all? They both look unhappy…I wonder what news they’re hearing.

And now my beloved Jon Snow. Squeeeeeee!!!! ❤ He’s finally in the crypts of WF!!!! ?I want to believe he’s gazing at Lyanna’s statue but I don’t think D&D will give us that just yet. I like the idea that he and Sansa had a statue made of Ned and he’s down in the crypts having a moment with his ‘father’. If we get a scene of Jon talking to Ned sharing his fears now that he’s KitN or promising to take care of the remaining Stark kids, I will ugly cry. BTW, that is a new cloak. The one Sansa gave him last season did not have the fur coming down the front and this cloak is missing the direwolf stitching on the leather cross straps.

  166. Ten Bears,

I don’t see a family tree at the bottom of the page, just some cracks in the parchment, and you’re correct that no prophesy mentions Targaryans in particular, but in the prophesy that Rheagar attempts to create by “marrying” Lyanna (TPtwP), it is a combining of Ice and Fire that creates the Prince. TPtwP legend could just be a retelling of an older legend–Azor Ahai–much like IRL, creation myths have some repeated elements across cultures. This has been debated for years in the fandom.

  167. I must say I am really impressed with Dany’s wig this season, it looks high quality with none of that yellow tone from previous seasons, a proper platinum that fits her well.
I suppose with Kit saying before in a interview now that they have less episodes there is a higher budget for other things like CGI, and I guess Dany’s wig.
Sansa’s wig on the other hand, I wouldn’t rave about. It looks too flat around the face and too thick near the ends. If they completely braided it like last season in battle of the bastards it might not be as noticeable.
I could imagine them ordering Dany’s wig and being so happy so that they could afford a better one with less episodes and less characters with wigs and how awesome it was and then later Sophie calling them and saying I’ve dyed my hair blonde and I’m keeping it so you’ll have to get me a wig and them going oh crap but our budget and then just getting Margaery’s wig from S6 and dying it red basically, problem solved lol

  168. West of moon,

Yeah definitely, I think they’ll just do a little nod to it perhaps a slight reference to it helping people who still don’t quite get who Jon’s biological parents are.

  169. Sean C.:
All that dragging Bran around must be a great full-body workout for Meera.

I thought exactly the same! He’s like twice her size by now… She’s strong…

    Two reactions:
Jon at WF’s crypts looking up?….. Hype, hype, hype…
Arya at an Inn? A Hot Pie reunion???? Weeeeee!!!!!

  170. Ramsay’s 20th Good Man:
Anybody want to bet that Arya just saw the Red Woman walk into the inn?

    DING DING DING!!!

    Ten Bears:
…that is, if they apologize to Princess Arya for selling her friends and stalling her return to her family.

The only problem with such an apology is that it would be totally unwarranted, given what would have happened had she not been delayed. Had she made it all the way to Winterfell, she’d be dead, and had she made it to the Twins before the Red Wedding, she’d be just as dead. Ahhh, the icy-cold comforts of the Martinverse…

    Anthony:
Is Jon wearing a neck plate? Is that a first for him?

    It’s called a gorget, and yes, it’s a first.

    JoAnne O’Bar Legat:
The actor who played Lem Lemoncloak just tweeted that The Hound is wearing Lem’s cloak…

    I. AM. DEAD.

    firstone:
Joffery was definitely a psychopath!!!!!! He was a mass murderer in waiting.

I respectfully disagree. A psychopath’s brain is physically different from a “normal” person’s brain; brain scans show far less activity in the frontal lobe. Late in Season 3 or early in Season 4 (I forget exactly), Cersei recalls that Joffrey was a very sweet baby, and she loved her time with him. From her behavior towards him early in his life, though—remember “The truth will be what you make it,” from Season 1?—it is clear that Cersei was largely responsible for his becoming a sociopath (not psychopath).

    Tycho Nestoris:
Like Lem took the Hound’s helm…

    Rorge took the Hound’s helm.

    George:
Unless they are sneaking books out without authorization?

After sneaking Heartsbane out of Horn Hill, sneaking books out of the Citadel shouldn’t even feel naughty! 😉

  171. Ten Bears,

I am not sure whether the diagram at the bottom of the page Gilly is reading is the Targarian family tree, but it definitely looks like a family tre; so Targarian is an educated guess: in the books there is a prophesy linking the PTWP prophesy directly to the Targarians and, if the show has to convey it’s message to the viewers, the script of AA legend with a bottom note presenting the Targarian family lineage may be be a rather simple and convenient way to do this.

    Mel,

Regarding the Hound and his cloak

and the arrest of the BwB

, I’m not saying that Sansa won’t believe the Hound. However, the Hound is wearing the murderer’s cloak and reputation of the BwB is ruined. Hence, it’s a legit guess that most of the people around Sansa will say that those BwB guys are all the same and have to be hanged, especially if Littlefinger spreads the word to influence public oppinion, and Sansa may find herself in a difficut situation: she will trust the Hound, but she won’t be able to ignore the accussations. However, her personal experience may be the reason why

the Hound and the BwB are send to the Wall, instead of being Hanged.
  172. Niles:
it’s only pics from épisode 1.

Not necessarily. Last year the very first image of season 6 we received was of Bran from episode 10. And the others were a mix of the first 2-3 episodes if I recall correctly.

  173. Checking in. The images look interesting so far. I’m sure the season would be great! (No spoilers this year for me)

    With regards from Lord Parramandas

  174. Great to have the official pics and probably a little sooner than I was expecting, pretty sure we will get the first full trailer next month now.

I reckon almost all of these pics are from episodes 1 & 2. The only one I am unsure about is the Hound, who are the guys behind him in helmets, knights of the Vale perhaps?

  175. Jon Snowed,

Doubtful; they’re all in different helmets. I would wager they’re more of the Brotherhood Without Banners. (The caption here says they are; the caption on the HBO site just says “Rory McCann.”)

  176. Jon Snowed,

Regarding the pictures, based on the filming photos, I guess that Dany’s individual photo is from Ep 5 or even 6 and Missandei’s individual photo should be from Ep 4 or 5. Sam and Gilly should be from midseason too: I doubt that they will find the crucial text in Ep1; besides that, this photo/situation requres some setup like Gilly complaining that she has to sit at home while Sam spends all the time in the Citadel and Sam finding a way to take some books from the library home etc. So, again my guess is that Sam and Gilly are from Ep 3 or 4 (2 the earliest). Varys’ photo should also be from midseason (ep 4, 5 or even 6): he wears a different costume in Ep 1. So, I would say that Ep 1 photos are Tyrion’s individual and Dany’s crew; Lyanna Mormont; Davos; Meera & Bran; and Brienne & Tormund. Ep 2 would be: Jon, Arya, probably the Hound. Ep 3-6 should account for Sam & Gilly, Missandei’s individual, Dany’s individual and Cersei & Jaime and Sansa & Littlefinger can be placed there too. Hence, we have a rather fair distribution IMO.

  177. Thanks Inga, agree about Sam and Gilly being a later episode having seen now what is being read. I still feel Arya is most likely episode 1 though, this could be in the twins where we last left her or even at the Inn which is in the riverlands.

Out of interest have you read the spoilers as I feel this may influence a little which episodes these are from as we know certain events place certain characters in different places – I will not post any spoilers.

  178. Mel: I love how often Dany changes her dress styles, we used to get it from Sansa and Cersei too but I think they are both gonna wear the same kind of styles that they did from the last episode of last season with slight variations
Missandei and Greyworm both wearing the same dragon pins are utterly adorable, I love that.

Seemed Varys should have been wearing one too. I guess the “Hand of the Queen’ pin is a Targ design ? Worn both at KL and DS?

  179. Ten Bears:

    Re: Jon Pictture

You wrote: “Jon……I so want this to be in the crypts and Jon looking up at Lyanna’s statue.

Agree it is likely that the scene is lit by candlelight; I think more and more scenes will be lit this way as we enter winter. Slightly OT, but I know a lot of people hated the way this was done in Wolf Hall (not me, I thought it was authentic and loved it!) – not sure if this is the way they will go in GoT.

I want this to be at Lyanna’s statue so much! Mostly trying to ignore the wishful thinking and look at it objectively, but with Daenerys returning to Westeros I guess it makes sense for the Starks to reflect on the losses of their conflict with the Targaryens during the Rebellion – Lyanna, Brandon and Rickard all died, and all three have statues and tombs in the Winterfell crypts. I am hopeful, however, that this is Jon looking upon Lyanna’s statue with the knowledge that she is his mother.

  180. Alba Stark,

Yeah, with Dany arriving in Westeros and

Jon readying to travel to Dragonstone to meet her, it would be natural for him to reflect on what the Starks had to suffer at the hands of the Targaryens the last time they got involved with each other, which in turn could lead him to pay a visit to Lyanna’s tomb (and Ned’s). Man I would be so psched if this happened.
  181. Anthony,

As has already been said, yes he is and it’s about time too. My heart was in my mouth every time he went out in his boiled leather.

  182. Alba Stark,

I agree it’s definitely the crypts but really think it’s Jon standing in front of Neds statue. They’ll have had this commissioned immediately after taking Winterfell, and Ned’s bones would surely be returned by now (likely by LF who had them in S2 when he presented them to Cat). I can’t see Jon having much affinity for (who he believes to be) a long dead aunt who he never knew, as

according to spoilers, he won’t find out about his parentage yet
  183. Jon Snowed,

Yes, I’ve red all the spoilers and studied every possible leak and yes, my guesses are slightly influenced by that. However, most of the guesses are based on “legal” spoilers which were published on this site and the official promotional material. For instance, Arya is wearing the same outfit she wore in the very first three shots from the new season (Jon & Sansa, Sansa in the Weirwood, and Arya on a horseback). Hence, it’s Arya’s travel outfit, and her travel will probably take at least one episode taking into account that she is going to make a stop in an inn as we can see from this photo and meet someone or learn something important. It might be the first episode, but the show also needs at least one episode to wrap up the Walder Frey’s assassination and its consequences. So, that’s my count for Arya: Ep 1-2 wrap-up in the Twins; Ep 2-4 travel and arrival to Winterfel; Ep 4-7 – whatever comes out of that.

  184. Apollo,

I think Ned’s statue could have been made even before Theon sacked Winterfell. Maester Lewin said that they will have to find a good sculptor (or whatever the word was) right after he got the message about Ned’s death.
In general, I agree that Jon will visit the crypts before going to Dany just to contemplate what happens to the Staks, when they go south. But it’s not impossible that his sight will stop on Lyanna’s statue.

  185. Waaaaaaaah! Hype levels just shot up. It suddenly seems real. The promo photos always have something which makes me giggle and this is no exception. Baby Bear looks like she has a tiny, fire coloured hat on 😀

    Dee Stark,
*high five* Oooh me too, I think he’s one of the biggest villains of the whole thing and shall be victory dancing around the room when he gets it. This isn’t a spoiler because if he survives to the very end in the show I am going to kill him myself, so whether at D&D/GRRM’s hands or mine he is going down!!

    Inga,
*waving as always*. It looks like a tree pattern. It’s possible there are initials or very short words on it, or it might be purely decorative.

Ali Oop, Hi Ali *waves* welcome to the Wall! 😀

  186. I kept thinking that we maybe having some treat this weekend and here it is …still hope we will get a BTS video before the end of this month ..
everyone looks so nice and beautiful ..this year costume department seems to have had a much more work than before..

So Sam and Gilly reads TWoIAF…A girl with a monkey tail wonder what that means it is so difficult to interpret..
Dany and Team arrive at Dragonstone
Jamie still with cersei side I don’t like ..I would like to see whether widow’s wail return in books too or its a show only thing
Lyanna’s look like it is from last season .

  187. My guess it’s Melisadre who Arya is looking at. Since they “will meet again”. Melisadre walking into an Inn would garner everyone’s attention. I think it will be shortly thereafter she and Melsiadre reunite with the Hound and the BWB heading North.

Gilly is a convenient person to discover info about Jon as she isn’t looking into the in-depth parsing of what she’s reading she reads/interprets things for their face value. She won’t overlook the obvious. Her scenes with Sam have never been throw away moments, as some have complained.

  188. JohnDoe:
Does anyone else think that Cersei is receiving Iron Bank representatives in that picture?

I did! At some point the Iron Bank has to collect all the money they poured into KL during Tywin’s era. Plus, with all the changes in leadership, they probably need to understand what’s up with Cersei. I somehow expect Cersei to react all entitled and smug, with Jaimie trying to remind her of their dire financial situation.

  189. dragonbringer,

If there’s a reference to a girl “with a monkey tail” in the page Gilly is reading, the only thing I can think of (in the show) is…
The Demon Monkey aka a Tyrion “tailing” behind Daeny.

  190. Ten Bears,

Sure sure have it your way..

I wonder who are the other candidates are ..in the books we have clear symbolism attached to each and every characters …like jon always associated with sun and dany with moon ..I think we don’t have anything similar to that in the show..

  191. You guys know that what Gilly is reading is the page before the one we actually see on screen right? That’s where her eyes are.

  192. Apollo:

Yeah, I guess it is more likely to be Ned – but, a girl can dream, right?

  193. Lulus Mum,

Hi, Lulus Mum! I was thinking about you and your high resolution computer. But probably the tree or branch pattern is even better visible on a smaller photo. I think I can see numbers 9 and 1 (or 7) at the bottom and there are some short texts (names?) written along the lines. I don’t think it’s a decoration: the main text is written in bold caligraphic gothic, some letters are red – Targaryan colors, BTW. Meanwhile, the branch pattern and the inscriptions at the bottom are very thin and the ink color also differs. In our world, it’s quite common that hand-written books contain side and bottom notes left by later readers and often those notes contain vaulable information. So, that’s why I made this guess about the Targaryan family tree. But let’s move to the new thread and continue this dicussion there, if you are in the mood.

  194. Inga,
Evening missus. I’ve only seen this thread for the first time today and as I was working my way down, saw your comment about high resolution and thought “here’s my cue unless someone got on it last night” 😀

I’m about to go and stuff my face with pizza….mmmmm…..but will have another look later and join you in the newer comments. So you over there…..

  195. Dee Stark:
    Lord Parramandas,

    Haha thank you!
    Hyped is an understatement
    Miss you!

I may be on less these past months due to avoiding spoilers and university and my adminship in LFU keep me busy all the time. But I will surely be back when the show airs for my reviews. I will try to check on this page more often in future days but it often slips my mind.

I envy you. We actually know more this year about the plot for the season than ever before…And I honestly wish I didn’t, despite usually not minding spoilers at all…I think you’re way better off not knowing this year…

  197. George,

Well, without LFU, I’m not sure if I would be able to stay away from WotW. This used to be my to-go-fansite in free time.

  198. Wimsey,

    You say that

Joffery was a sociopath. Ramsey was a psychopath. Cersei is a less-than-bright bitch. LF is just a schemer.

LOL, but isn’t that evil? What is your definition of evil, then, if you don’t consider sociopaths and psychopaths evil? Most psychologists define evil as “A LACK OF EMPATHY” Source: https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/out-the-darkness/201308/the-real-meaning-good-and-evil

Sociopath & psychopath have a shared diagnosis of ASPD or Antisocial Personality Disorder which is characterized by a lack of empathy or remorse (or severely impaired).

    You also say

Given that there are no such things as “good” or “evil,” it is never so simple as those being parts of the equation. These notions are always based on simplistic moralities and are merely simple-minded ways of labeling things we like or dislike: when “evil” describes “unethical,” then it’s pure luck.

No, it’s not a “given” (aka fact) that good and evil does not exist. That is your opinion, not fact. And I suppose that Ethics, Moral Philosophy and Psychology (see link above) are all simple-minded careers then? You seem to think that anyone who distinguishes between moral and immoral is simple-minded. And then you assume that everyone thinks like you and “it is given” or “it is known”. How arrogant, narcissistic and simplistic of you.

    Moreover, your contention of

when “evil” describes “unethical,” then it’s pure luck.”

is absolutely nonsensical. You have made me giggle. Thank you. 🙂

    Mel,

You misunderstand GRRM’s views. You quote them. And you misinterpret them. And you disseminate your misinterpretation as does Wimsey. It’s pretty scary, TBH. I fear that GRRM is unintentionally legitimizing a generation of sociopaths (in their own minds, that is).

  199. “Good and evil

Wimsey: Given that there are no such things as “good” or “evil,” it is never so simple as those being parts of the equation. These notions are always based on simplistic moralities and are merely simple-minded ways of labeling things we like or dislike

Yes, GIVEN your above statement of what you believe to be fact, Immanuel Kant is a simple-minded moron. John Stuart Mill is another simple-minded fool. John Rawls, Margaret Somerville and so many other ethicists are all “simplistic” if your flawed logic is to be believed.

  200. dragonbringer,

To be honest, I’m already confused enough with red comets, bleeding stars, red swords, burning swords, salt and smoke, etc.

If we now throw a girl with a monkey’s tail into the mix, my brain’s gonna melt down like Wylis’s.

  201. IG Stark,

Our esteemed Wimsey gave his learned opinion and YOUR retort to him was “How arrogant, narcissistic and simplistic of you.” ????

And then you labeled another one of his statements “absolutely nonsensical.” ???

Disagree with him if you must, but resort to invectives is intellectually vacuous and uncivil.

    SHAME! ? SHAME! ?
    SHAME! ?

  202. Apollo,

Maybe one our sleuths with high resolution imaging can compare the lighting, camera angles and backgrounds of Jon’s promo picture with the scene of Sansa and LF in front of Lyanna’s tomb (in S4e2. I think), to see if Jon’s in the same place within the crypts.

  203. Great new outfit by Dany

    lol at LF scheming

Arya seems to be in a tavern somewhere? Perhaps not Winterfell in this pic…yet…

Almost seems to be Freys riding in behind the Hound?

  204. Meera is carrying THE RED SWORD remember when they were in the crypts of winterfell hiding from theon , (from the books) they all grabbed swords this one came from king brandon stark i believe
