  1. My favorite moment from season 8 was seeing Dany pick up a sword and fight during the long night. It was epic to see her protect herself unlike other queens.

  2. My favorite part of Season 8 was Melisandre’s death after fulfilling her destiny to help bring back the dawn!

  3. My favorite moment was when Dany decided to continue to destroy kings landing/go after Cersei in anger. To see her “give in to the madness” was satisfying after seeing the small bits of it grow throughout the entire series.

  4. My favorite part of season 8 was Theon dying while protecting Brann. I loved the redemption.

  5. Definitely my favorite moment is Viserion wreaking havoc in the Winterfell courtyard leading up to his death. There was something so badass about him being able to cause so much destruction with only half of a jaw!

  6. My favorite moment of season 8 is difficult to name, but one of my favorite moments that immediately pops up is: Sansa and Dany discussing the North, Theon walking in, hugging Sansa and offering his loyalty. The look on Dany’s face when she saw the bond between them, differing greatly from the way she was treated by the North.

  7. My favorite moment was when Arya Stark killed the Night King with the dagger used in an attempt to assassinate Bran Stark! Also, the music during the episode is great.

  8. My favorite scene from season 8 must be Brienne with the White Book in the series finale. Touching moment with brilliant background score by Djawadi

  9. My favorite moment from season 8 was watching Dany and Drogon destroy King’s Landing with Fire! I didn’t want it to happen, for Dany’s sake, but when it did, WOW, what a ride! I sat there in disbelief and my heart was pounding! It was an amazing, cinematic moment!

  10. God, there are so many phenomenal moments to choose from … but I have to go with Arya Stark killing the Night King. It was so unexpected for me in the moment, and yet in retrospect, it’s absolutely perfect. For Arya, whose entire arc revolved around loss, identity, and death, to take down the ultimate personification of this unnatural version of Death, a darkened perversion of the Many-Faced God … it’s so perfect that it’s hard to believe that we didn’t see it coming all along. “What do we say to the God of Death?” “Not today.” That already-iconic line has a whole new meaning now. It has to be considered one of THE defining quotes of the entire series.

  11. My favorite moment of season 8 was when Dany surrendered to her Targaryan heritage and burned King’s Landing to the ground.

  12. My favorite moment from season 8 was Daenerys death, not because I hate her. She is my favorite character of this entire story and her whole arc is pretty tragic and sad. On the same time it was the end of Game of Thrones. She’s probably the most tragic and complex character of film and television history. I thought the whole scene was brilliant. Dany’s arc is what you call perfect character development.

  13. My favorite moment in season 8 was at the way end of the season when The Last of the Starks starts playing. There’s just something about that violin kicking it at the end of the song while the Starks are all exploring their new lives that’s just extremely triumphant. Gives me chills.

  14. I honestly think my favourite moment from Season 8 was the end of episode 1 when Jaime is confronted by Bran in his wheelchair. The look on their faces is priceless!

  15. My favorite part of season 8 was that shot of Drogon landing behind Daenerys atop the steps of the Red Keep!! (Aka the best shot ever)

  16. My favorite moment was Daenerys’s Speech at King´s Landing, the power that Dany transmits, the way every single Westerosi character looks at her with fear and hate, and how she doesn’t even care about it, because she understands that her people is right in front of her, the Dothraki that obeys her trough power and the unsullied that obeys her for basically devotion to her. Even if you think the showrunners mess up everything, that speech is powerful, the way she embraces everything that her allies once said, she will no longer be a sheep, now she is a dragon, she is not here to be a Queen, she is here to be a Conqueror, all of that, she realizes that they were right all along. That, is definitely, my favorite moment from season 8.

  17. Brienne being knighted at the end of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdom” is hands down my favorite moment of season 8.

  18. My favorite moment of Season 8 is when Jon Snow finally finds out he is a Targaryen.

Season 8 got a lot of hatred, but I was glued to the TV every Sunday night knowing I’d be thoroughly entertained. I miss the show, but look forward to the Targaryen series and the fantasy series that will be soon coming out!

  19. My favorite moment was the first few notes of The Night King during The Long Night: Sansa and Tyrion sharing a tender moment looking at each other, and he kisses her hand as they brace to (presumably) fight in the crypts. I lost it at that moment.

  20. Great giveaway! Not easy to choose one favourite moment from season 8, there are a few to choose from. One of my absolute favourite moments was when Arya killed the Night King. Couldn’t have imagined a better way to have him die.

  21. Favorite moment, Hardhome, when the bodies rise up and Jon and the others realize they are in serious trouble. In fact that whole episode is phenomenal.

  22. That scene where Arya did the thing. 😉 Seriously, I was waiting for Season 8 to come out on Blu Ray so I could watch it. Don’t have HBO. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  23. My Favorit Moment which always brings tears in my eyes is brienne completing jamies History in the White Book…big brienne Fan from the beginning!

  24. My favorite moment is when Dany is realizing all that she lost and give in to anger. That moment when she’s on Drogon’s back and the bells are ringing is a beautiful acted scene by Emilia. Especially when you realize this was done with greenscreens everywhere. Pure acting

  25. (Part 1 of 2)
Favorite S8 moment? That’s a tough one. Of course, the winner will be an Arya/Sandor scene.

    Four Runner Ups:

    • S8e1
Sandor: “I heard you were here. You left me to die.”
    Arya: “First I robbed you.”
    Sandor: “You’re a cold little bitch, aren’t you… I guess that’s why you’re still alive.”
    _____
    • S8e2 (Arya and Sandor on WF battlements)
    ***
Arya: “What are you doing up here?”
Sandor: “What does it look like?”
Arya: “No, I mean what are you doing up here. You joined the Brotherhood. You went beyond the Wall with Jon. You’re here now. Why? When was the last time you fought for anyone but yourself?”
(Sandor turns, looks Arya in the eyes)
    Sandor: “I fought for you, didn’t I?

    ———-

    • S8e3 (Arya slices and dices wights with DG tipped spear; Sandor about to give up but springs into action when he sees Arya in peril)

    Sandor: “…You can’t beat death.”
Beric (pointing to Arya): “Tell her that!”
    _______________

    • S8e4 (Sandor and Arya leave WF together and head to KL)

Sandor: “Going to leave me to die again if I get hurt?
    (Pause)
    Arya: “Probably.”
    (They both chuckle)
    _______

…. and the Favorite S8 Scene Award goes to….

    (to be cont.)

  26. My favorite part was seeing that a number of people didn’t read the directions and posted their favorite moments from seasons other than season 8 🙂

My favorite moment from season 8 was probably Ramin’s score during Dany’s remodeling of KL as well as the score at the beginning of The Long Night when they’re preparing for battle.

  27. (Part 2 of 2)
…. and the Favorite S8 Scene Award goes to….

    • ✅ S8e5 Sandor & Arya Final Scene
    (especially at 1:00 – 1:30)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSenpGeeThk

Sandor: “Go home, girl. The fire will get her, or one of the Dothraki. Or maybe that dragon will eat her. It doesn’t matter. She’s dead. And you’ll be dead too if you don’t get out of here.”
Arya: “I’m going to kill her!”
(Arya starts walking to go after Cersei when Sandor grabs her by the arm.)
Sandor: “You think you wanted revenge a long time? I’ve been after it all my life. It’s all I care about. And look at me…”
(Arya still looks towards her target with anger on her face.)
Sandor (brusquely, finally getting her attention): “Look at me! You want to be like me?”
(He gently cradles her head and speaks earnestly; she looks up at him with puppy dog eyes)
Sandor: “You come with me, you die here.”
(As Sandor walks away, Arya calls after him..)
    Arya: “Sandor! … Thank you.”

    🐶❤️👸🏻

  28. Mr Derp,

    ”…Dany’s remodeling of KL”

    Ha ha ha! 🤣

I’ve preferred to think of it as… urban renewal.
(They can build waterfront high rise condos and a mega mall where the “sh*t city” used to be.)

  29. Good luck everyone, I need to win this, so I can relive my fave moment in season 8… When Theon truly redeemed himself at the weirwood tree. Of course Arya a few moments later is a very close 2nd

  30. I had a lot of favotites throughout the season, too many to count. For this I am simply going to go with what came to mind first which is the scene where Jon and Ghost are reunited in the true North, beyond the Wall. That tender moment tugged at my heartstrings and was much needed after the appalling way Jon abandoned him.

  31. My favorite part was Podrick singing Jenny of Oldstones!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJeMwHTFxjE

Runner up was Dany and Jon first charge during The Long Night!! The face of relief and awe from Sam, Jaime, Sansa and Arya, the look of determination on Dany´s face (the Dany I love) and THE SOUNDTRACK!

    Starts at 7:43
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ChCtYmZfRI

But I also liked Arya and Gendry having sex, everything from Theon and Melisandre and the knighting scene.

All from the first three episodes 😛

  32. Ok, I think I’m not compatible, but this post opened my apetite, so I’ll go for it (I’ll figure out compatibility issues if I win, lol)

I think my favorite scene is Sansa’s coronation, from the moment she is being dressed to the moment she is crowned and acclaimed.

It feels rewarding that this final scene is the answer to everything the North has gone through since season 1 episode 1.
And it is touching that it’s Michelle Clapton’s hands dressing Sophie Turner in that marvellous dress that captures the essence of the Northern lore, of ASoIaF and of the Starks family.

  33. My favourite moment from season 8 has to be when Brienne was knighted! When Gwendoline Christie smiles, we all smile.

  34. My favourite moment is Jon riding north with his dog, people that admire and respect him, at peace at last.

  35. Well I Love Arya Killing the Knight King but I have to give it to Brianne become a Knight! What amazing scene!

  36. My favorite moment. Jon leaving the realm to live among the wildings. I feel like Bran knew that would be the best place for him to live, where Jon could finally be happy. It was the perfect ending for him.

  37. If I had to pick one, it’d be Jorah Mormont going out literally living his house words.

Civilian massacre of King’s Landing gets second simply because of how off-putting it was. Even if it didn’t amount to anything, still got one of my shippings acnowledged with Forgesex.

Honorary mention goes to Cleganebowl (GET HYPE) purely for the memes.

  38. Difficult to choose: Season 8 was full of so many favorite moments. Jon learning his identity from Sam; Brienne’s knighting (and that whole around-the-fire scene); Dany and Jon strafing the wights as Ramin’s soaring score pounds away and Sansa and Arya look on; Melisandre’s graceful end; Arya’s super fighting on the battlements; and her final, death-defeating stab; Bran’s praise and thank you to Theon; Jon’s funeral speech and that whole sequence with Ramin’s score; Dany and Drogon trouncing the Iron Fleet and KL defenses; running with Arya and the people amidst the horror of war; Dany and Jon and Drogon at the end; the final, stirring montage with Arya, Sansa, and Jon; Jon and Arya understanding each other at the end as they say a tearful goodbye. And so many others.

I guess I’ll go with Arya and the Hound, standing on a shattered map of Westeros as the world crumbles around them, he finally giving voice to his paternal love by urging her to avoid his mistakes and choose life, not death and revenge, and that love being the last catalyst needed in her evolving return to humanity – my favorite moment being her soft change of expression as she becomes herself, and then calling him by his name: “Sandor”, and then: “Thank you”. He didn’t need to say another word.

  39. My favorite moment is the sack of King’s Landing in Season 8. It may not be the most popular episode (cough: you should have seen The Mad Queen coming), but seeing Jon Snow and company sack King’s Landing echoed the tale of Eddar Stark when he came to King’s Landing during Robert’s Rebellion. The plot twists, the Lannister guards throwing down their swords, the spear being thrown! Awesome moment!!

  40. Northern Breeze,

”I guess I’ll go with Arya and the Hound, standing on a shattered map of Westeros as the world crumbles around them, he finally giving voice to his paternal love by urging her to avoid his mistakes and choose life, not death and revenge, and that love being the last catalyst needed in her evolving return to humanity – my favorite moment being her soft change of expression as she becomes herself, and then calling him by his name: “Sandor”, and then: “Thank you”. He didn’t need to say another word.“

That’s my choice too. A perfect conclusion to the best relationship on GoT.

  41. My favorite scene from Season 8 is during the Long Night, when Arya is blasting wights left and right, and Davos is standing behind her like “goddamn woman!”. It makes me giggle every time I watch it lol.

  42. The Battle of Winterfell — the best episode — was filled with so many great moments. The favorite moment for me was when Melisandre said to Arya, “What do we say to the god of death?” and Arya answers, “Not today.” I got goosebumps. That’s when I realized the end game for the Night King and who would be the savior of the world. Go Arya.

  43. My favorite moment is when Podrick (Daniel Portman) sings Jenny of Odstones and we feel the calm before the storm. The Peace at that moment. The Silence and only hearing his voice. And seeing all our characters mood at that moment. Scared, battlemood, regret etc.

    —-

As for the Boxes. Do they really have a 4k box? Does that box land in the stores?

As for the winner I would choose

Jack or Mau. The way they feel about season 8 and the whole show is very positive from beginning to end and I think they would enjoy the box the most. But that’s just my take on it 😀 I know everyone deserves it. Good luck everyone. So our watch begin.
  44. Favorite and most hearbreaking had to be when Drogon melted the iron throne and then carried Dany away

  45. Jon and Arya reuniting after so long in the season premiere was my favorite moment of season 8.

It was a quiet yet powerful moment. These two characters always have to have hard exteriors to survive, and barely get any chance to show emotion or to enjoy anything. This moment allowed that hard exterior to crack just a bit and they were able to truly show their love for each other. Jon’s face showed that when he let go and cried. Amazing.

  46. Favorite moment was Arya’s epic killing of The Night King in The Long Night. The lead up was magnificent. With it being episode 3, there was a sense this was going to end badly for all, so tension was at its highest. The musical composition by Ramin Djawadi was perfection, aiding the feeling that every millisecond hung by a thread. And even the ‘hero turns the tables and saves the day at the sheer last second’ theme that cinema and television has hung its hat on for over a half century was beautifully turned on its side in a great way. Awesome!

  47. This is tough because I have a lot of favorite scenes from season 8, but if I’m forced to pick then it’s one of the more popular scenes, Jaime knighting Brienne. I just loved all the scenes with that group of characters around the fire as a whole. If I was allowed to add more, definitely all of Arya & the Hound’s scenes together. And of course, Ghost finally getting his pets from Jon.

  48. The amazing moment with Drogon’s wings behind Dany as she’s walking toward the Unsullied after “conquering” King’s Landing.

  49. kevin1989,

Yes. The 4K version also is supposed to include the regular blue ray dvd version and a digital copy so you’re covered. At least that’s what it said on Amazon when I was looking last week.

  50. My favourite part of season 8 was Brienne being knighted. The scene was beautiful but the cherry on the cake was being called a Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. It was such an apt nod to the books and her descending from Duncan the Tall. I felt the pride she felt in herself. Gwendoline portrayed it wonderfully and the warm feelings I had after that scene is uncontested by any other in the entire series.

  51. Hmm tough one to pick your favorite.. but I guess I”ll go with the collapse of the Red Keep and Cleganebowl.

  52. My favorite moment was Arya standing in the rubble of King’s Landing, seeing the horse, quietly going up to it, then riding out of the destruction. Beautifully acted, set, shot, and scored. A moment of hope.

  53. My favorite moment was that assembly of the Stark brothers in the last episode … It was epic and very emotional.

  54. This was so hard!
I had chills listening to Daniel Portman’s singing, a huge smile for Brienne, extreme sadness at the loss of Jorah and Theon, horror at Baby Beat Mormont’s demise and pride when Arya killed the Night King.
But, have to go with Arya and Jon by the weirwood tree. I had waited for them to meet again for so long. When her face softened and she leaped into his arms as she had when he gave her Needle, I honestly had tears on my cheeks. My two favs together again!

  55. My favorite scene is when all the characters were together before the long night fight and they were sitting and talking and drinking.

  56. Ohhhhh I would love to win this.
My favourite moment has to be the one that unexpectedly made tears spring from my eyes …. the final scene between Arya and he Hound, when she said,
    “Sandor …… Thank you.”
    😢

  57. My favorite moment of S8 was any flashback to the previous seasons.

Haha, just kidding 😀 The scene that I loved most was Brienne adding to Jaime’s bio in The Book.

  58. Ooh I’d love to have Season 8! A favourite moment….geez, just one? Alright…Pod’s singing of Jenny of Oldstones while getting a glimpse at many of my beloved characters preparing in the calm before the storm. ❤ That way I cover a few of them. 🙂

  59. My favorite scene from the last season of Game of Thrones is when Arya killed the leader of the whitewalkers.

  60. #forthethrone
    #longliveourqueen
    #neverforget
One of the better moments IMO was the beautifully shot dragon flights during the Long Night

  61. Mr Derp:
    Pigeon,

Pod the Rod is going to have a stroke once he finds out that the kingsguard cannot take wives or have children!

True, but neither could members of the Night’s Watch or the maesters, and that seems negotiable now, so….🤪

  62. My favorite moment from season 8 was Tyrion paying his debt to Jaime by freeing him in “The Bells”. A magnificent bond between these two brothers ended in a tearful goodbye that we all knew it would be final. And that made it even more heartbreaking.

  63. My favorite moment is when Arya surprised the Night King at the Battle of Winterfell and killed him at once.

  64. My favorite moment in season 8 was Jon Snow riding a dragon. This further solidified the fact that he is a targaryen.

  65. My favorite moment of Season 8 was “The Night King” sequence in 08×03 “The Long Night.” Ramin Djwadi’s music has never been better than in this moment. it was a true nail biter with everything coming together, creating a crescendo of the loudest scream/applause I’ve ever heard from an audience watching GoT when Arya shockingly killed The Night King. The relief, awe and epic quality of the moment was felt by all around the world and it was something I’ll never forget.

  66. My favorite moment is when Daenerys killed the wights using dragonglass!!! What a badass scene!!! I miss her so much 😭 I hope I win thank you 💓💓

  67. If it has to be only one, then for me it’s without one single doubt the fireplace scene: Jaime knighting Brienne🗡 🛡, Pod’s song. Perfect.

But many others are also marked so vividly in my memory. Here are a few of those.
From The long night, the last minutes of the episode, underlined by the wonderful Night King score. From episode 4, the funeral with Jon’s speech, the party talks, Jaime leaving Brienne and Winterfell. From episode 5, Tyrion and Jaime saying goodbye, Arya’s “Sandor. Thank you”, Sandor’s “F*ing die!”… 😢
From episode 6, the desperation of Tyrion finding his siblings, Jon’s “Was it right, what I did”, Jon and the wildlings riding out in the real North.

Oh, can’t wait to relive them all, again and again!!!

  68. Pigeon: True, but neither could members of the Night’s Watch or the maesters, and that seems negotiable now, so….🤪

And as Samwell pointed out when parsing the actual wording of the NW vows, the prohibitions against taking wives and having children did not strictly speaking preclude fornicating – so Pod the Rod will be free to share his magic with the ladies.

  69. Ten Bears,

… and if KG, NW or Maesters oaths did include celibacy, then they were breached more than they were honored, as demonstrated by Jaime F*cking Lannister, Samwell “Lover of Ladies” Tarly, Jon Cavesex + Boatsex Snow, and Grandmaester “Dead Cats” Pycelle.

  70. Mr Derp:
    Pigeon,

Pod the Rod is going to have a stroke once he finds out that the kingsguard cannot take wives or have children!

See my comments above: Why would anyone even want Poderick “Tripod” Payne to be tied down to one woman or have kids when he can share his magic c*ck with the multitudes?

  71. Ten Bears: See my comments above: Why would anyone even want Poderick “Tripod” Payne to be tied down to one woman or have kids when he can share his magic c*ck with the multitudes?

Sometimes I wonder if Pod’s “gift” to pleasing the prostitutes was actually just his velvety, buttery smooth singing voice and he’s just going along with the narrative.

Ok…probably not, but it would be pretty amusing.

  72. My favorite moment from season 8 was when Daenerys saved Jon by burning the wights so he could get to Bran. Then poor Drogon got overwhelmed with the wights crawling all over him and threw her off. It was one of the few times you saw her completely alone, vulnerable, and absolutely terrified. Then Ser Jorah came to her rescue and protected her, we also got to see her pick up a sword and try her best to defend herself, something she obviously isn’t trained on. Ser Jorah laid down his life for his queen and kept his sworn oath until the very end. The raw and heartbreaking emotion of the loss of her oldest and dearest friend was so sad and moving. That whole scene was so powerful to me. And it was the ending Ser Jorah deserved dying bravely and valiantly.

  73. My favorite moment in GoT season 8 is when Tormund explains why they call him Giantsbane….that scene is so hilarious and it makes me laugh each and every time I see it.

  74. One of my favorite moments is when arya killed the night king!!! She’s always been my fav and now I love her even more 🥰😍😍😍❤❤❤

  75. My fav moment was definitely everyone sitting around the fire and discussions of fathers, milk, knighting and singing.

  76. So many come to mind… Strangely enough, most are silent (no talk, Just music), like Jamie arriving at Winterfell and seeing Bran, Dothrakis ‘ araks lit by Melisander, Dragons over the moon, Sansa at the pyre, Jon yelling at an undead dragon, Theon’ s face looking at Sansa, Brienne’s face, Sansa’s coronation, etc. I’ll go with another talkless scene: Jon’s Last slight smile as he heads North, followed by Freefolk children, towards a dream of spring.

  77. Mr Derp: Sometimes I wonder if Pod’s “gift” to pleasing the prostitutes was actually just his velvety, buttery smooth singing voice and he’s just going along with the narrative.

Ok…probably not, but it would be pretty amusing.

Maybe it was just his velvety smooth singing voice that convinced the sex workers to give him one (or several) on the house.
Most guys in his shoes though would just “go along with the narrative” – and be forever remembered as a carnal legend.
Kind of like Thoros – who was remembered as the bravest man his compatriots had ever seen for charging through the breach at the Siege of Pike when in reality, he was so sh*tfaced drunk he didn’t know what he was doing and didn’t even remember it.

Why dispel the myth when it’s so much easier just to clam up and let others glorify you?

  78. My favorite moment(s) NO ORDER, they are equal in my eyes
Sansa greets Theon in front of Danny
Sansa pins a Stark pin on Theon’s dead body
Sandor sends Arya away ( stay / come with me you’ll die here ) then fights his brother
    The Stark Montage.

  79. Jared,

”God, there are so many phenomenal moments to choose from … but I have to go with Arya Stark killing the Night King…”

An observation/my two cents from skimming through the 126 comments (and counting) so far:

For all of the criticisms of S8 – and I’m not discounting them – there sure were a lot of memorable, iconic moments!

Perhaps the passage of time has brought a little perspective, and allowed the many kickass moments to soothe some disappointed expectations.

I for one had felt shortchanged by the absence of Jon & Arya scenes, and really wanted Arya “dragonriding Targaryen women-fangirl” Stark to have some bonding moments with Dany.
In hindsight, I accept that there just wasn’t enough time to give every fan everything he or she wanted.
So I’ll just be grateful that the Sandor-Arya story had such a compelling conclusion. even if it meant less – I mean fewer – Jon & Arya scenes, and no Dany & Arya moments.

  80. Definitely when Arya came out of nowhere to kill the Night King. It was completely unexpected and an awesome way to finish her story arc. I loved it!

  81. I am not going to be original with my reply. My favourite moment is Brienne being knighted in Episode 2, very properly named A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

  82. Had to be the Djawadi Score, difficult to pick an episode! From ‘The Long Night’ to ‘Needle’ all amazing…. But likely, ‘Jenny of Oldstone’ and ‘Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ – the fireside scenes!

  83. Theon’s redemption…his last moments defending Bran, he truly went full circle in his character development. If I had to choose a second, Jon going North with the Wildlings.

  84. My Favorite moment of season 8 was ( I loved it all ) when Arya was in the library ( I think it was the library? ) trying to stay quiet with all Whytes around. That was INTENSE!!!!

  85. As many have already said, when Brienne is knighted. That entire scene had me feeling all of the emotions.

Also, not really a moment, but the thing that has made all of the seasons – Ramin Djawadi and his musical genius!

  86. I don’t know if I can pick one favorite moment there were so many that I loved! Brienne’s knighting ceremony, Arya killing the Night King, Jon’s first ride on Rhaegal and the dragon battle between Jon and the NK. All amazing!!

  87. Man, so many good moments! I think mine’s, while really sad, is Melisandre’s death. Such a deep and great character. I have to hold my tears every time I see it.

  88. Ten Bears:

I think this was a lot of it for a lot of deeply invested fans. Frustrated expectations, born of caring so much for the characters as well as the lore of George’s world. (For others it appears to have been social pressure and confirmation bias.) I too would have loved to see those particular Arya exchanges. But then I’d have loved also to have seen so many more, between all the characters I care for – and there are so many of them in this vast story – not to mention more of the politics implied by the movements of the plot, Northern and Southern and even in Essos … and then even more. Not possible for a TV series limited by complex production constraints none of us will likely ever know. And maybe not wise from a storytelling point of view either. At least the show runners made a choice, once they’d learned from George where the story was going after they’d outlined season 4, to reign it in and tell it, as best they could and in line with their original agreement. And boy did they succeed.

As for more, well, that’s definitely George’s style. Let’s hope for the books.

  89. Favorite for me was the entirety of episode 2. It was such a poignant episode. Everybody, with the exception of Cersei and her army, was together in the north ready to fight and likely die for a chance at living. All there for a greater cause and setting aside their own petty conflicts.

Not just an episode where the characters reflected on their journeys but also an episode of reflection for us fans as well. In the quiet before the storm just reminiscing about where we were in relation to where we all started years before. And nothing encapsulated the emotions of this episode and the situation facing everybody more than Daniel Portman’s aka Podrick Payne’s absolutely breathtaking rendition of “Jenny of Oldstones” at the end of the episode.

It was all like spending one last night with years long friends before saying goodbye. Knowing in the back of your mind you may not ever see them again as they go off to war.

  90. I have alot of favorite moments from season (Sam revealing Jon’s true heritage, Sansa and Tyrion in the crypts, the tragedy of Dany deciding to burn Kings landing, all of Emilia’s acting!), but for me the moment that gets me in the feels the most is Theon returning to winterfell and declaring he wants to fight for it to Sansa in front of Dany. For Theon it continues his redemption, for Sansa it builds her faith that she can inspire loyalty, and poor Dany, just another reason to fuel her decision into madness

  91. My favorite sequence of S8: the whole washed out, muted journey of Arya through the destruction of KL to the white horse ride off. Amazing!

  92. This is SO difficult, and I’m going with a three-way tie.

-Jaime makes eye contact with Bran at the conclusion of Ep1.
-Melisandre dies at the conclusion of Ep3.
-Arya looks up at Sandor when he cups her head in his hand in Ep5.

  93. My favorite moment was Brienne of Tarth being made a knight of the seven kingdoms.
The smile she cracked was priceless!

  94. My favorite scene in season 8 was Podrick singing Jenny of Oldstones. Watching that somber scene made me realize how emotionally invested I was with the fate of each of the characters and the whole story. A close second was Arya/Sandor’s final scene together. In all that chaos Arya rediscovers her humanity and softly thanks Sandor.

I think GRRM would be surprised to see how many folks cited Brienne’s knighting as their favorite scene, given her character was not from one of the major houses.

  95. Arise, Ser Brienne, a Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
(Good thing Jaime did it back then. Knight of the Six Kingdoms doesn’t ring as nicely…)

  96. Thank you so much for this giveaway!!! I love Game of Thrones so much it’ll always be my favorite show ❤❤❤ one of my favorite moments this season is when arya killed the night king!!! It was epic

  97. Mine is the glorious, tense, emotional ignition of the trench by Melisandre. All of her scenes were my favorites, including her poignant death, which was the sole moment that moved me to tears. (The meeting with Arya and the Hound was great too, despite the Night King’s death being the one thing I hated in “The Long Night.”)

  98. The best moment? When Brienne was knighted by Jaime. Their exchange of looks needed no words. But in fact I loved the whole episode 2. Beautifully made with a lot of love and respect for the whole series. Never better!

  99. Jon riding Rhaegal for the first time. Especially the faces of Tyrion, Davos, and Varys upon seeing Jon riding Rhaegal.

  100. I think one of my all time favorite moments was the execution of the Night King’s Death, as Theon steps in to distract the Night King & Protect Bran, and Arya sneaks up from behind. Just a heart-wrenching, but beautiful sequence with a slight fantasy element with Arya’s attack!

  101. There’s a lot of moments I really like on season 8, but Daenerys victory over King’s Landing is probably one of my favorite because everyone is anticipating that moment of her reaching that point although not everyone like the turn out of that victory. Still, regardless of criticism, it’s my favorite of all, Emilia Clarke did great.

  102. I’ll partake but I’m not in any of the areas the blue rays work so if by some quirk of fate my name does come out of the hat, please redraw. Hard to give a “favourite” moment – three (out of several) moments that caught my attention were (a) Jaime and Bran reuniting at the end of episode 1 of the season (b) Arya “Thank you Sandor” in season 5 (c) the emotions in Dany’s face atop Drogon when the bells ring but she decides to carry on with the destruction anyhow.

  103. My favorite moment from Season 8 was when Drogon burned the iron throne. I think it was a huge foreshadowing of bran being named the new king as he wouldnt be able to walk up the stairs to the throne. Also, dany said she wanted to break the wheel so what better way of that happening by burning the ultimate prize of the show.

  104. Mr Derp:
My favorite part was seeing that a number of people didn’t read the directions and posted their favorite moments from seasons other than season 8 🙂

My favorite moment from season 8 was probably Ramin’s score during Dany’s remodeling of KL as well as the score at the beginning of The Long Night when they’re preparing for battle.

the score at the beginning of The Long Night was the best piece of score the season had to provide. especially because it followed Pod singing so beautifully the episode before. the battle preparation scenes in E2 were so much harder to take for me with the reapeated “she never wanted to leave”… and then in E3, your own heart hammering your skull’s ceiling takes over while there’s still preparation for battle.

    soundtrack masterpiece!

  105. Northern Breeze:

I guess I’ll go with Arya and the Hound, standing on a shattered map of Westeros as the world crumbles around them, he finally giving voice to his paternal love by urging her to avoid his mistakes and choose life, not death and revenge, and that love being the last catalyst needed in her evolving return to humanity – my favorite moment being her soft change of expression as she becomes herself, and then calling him by his name: “Sandor”, and then: “Thank you”. He didn’t need to say another word.

thank you for putting my choice in such beautiful words! i’m a member of the Sandorista since the first moment The Hound opened his mouth. his journey with Arya has always been one of the biggest delights GoT gave me. in that scene, this journey comes to such a wonderful conclusion for… ehm… both of them.

Arya is pushed back to “get a life” by Sandor talking straight from his heart. we all agree on this, right?

also, i think Arya’s reply from deep inside her heart prepared Sandor for his “f*cking business” in a way nothing else could have. not even the Little Bird’s hands on his in the halls of Winterfell. which he deserved, well done Sansa!

did he really want to leave the world being just the less horrifying of the Clegane Bros? sure, he says all he ever wanted has been revenge. but when Arya adresses him like a buddy and thanks him for guarding her and for the life he sends her to, it makes him smile.

    smile.

we saw him laugh some “Merryn Fucking Trant” and “your lips are moving” times, yes. but smiling? i think his smile after Arya’s thanks is the one of a man being alright with the fact that his way of revenge will probably take his life – just now, he got something in exchange: appreciation and a sort of love. finally, something filled his heart and he came to understand this.

so my choice for the best scene of S8 is Sandor smiling back at Arya.

  106. Impossible to chose just one moment, there were so many good ones! I’m going with the scene during the long night when the Dothraki warriors Swords/lights slowly extinguished into utter darkness. My heart ceased and I stopped breathing…..that was soooo bad! I was Absolutely terrified at the prospect of what would happen next. That’s great writing/directing to achieve that effect!

  107. My favourite moment of season 8 was Jamie’s knighting of Brienne in episode 2. It was so beautiful, superbly acted and just felt so right (much more so than them hooking up after the battle). They’re not even up there with my favourite characters, but it really was beautiful.

  108. The fireside chat and Brienne’s impromptu knighting was my emotional favorite, the dragon battle in the sky for sheer spectacle – and the very last scene with Jon looking content to be beyond the wall with Ghost and Tormund was, to me, a fitting conclusion for a character who was honorable despite feeling he didn’t truly belong anywhere.

  109. My favorite part of S8 was when it ended.

I’m just kidding. Let’s see… it’s kind of hard to say, so many great moments littered throughout. But one bit that keeps coming to mind is the Dothraki charge, then their lights going out from afar, then the stragglers running back, and the music building back up and the remaining troops bracing themselves. Oh, so fucking intense!

If they ever make a WWZ series, I hope the Battle of Yonkers has a similar vibe.

  110. death by chickenfire: thank you for putting my choice in such beautiful words! i’m a member of the Sandorista since the first moment The Hound opened his mouth. his journey with Arya has always been one of the biggest delights GoT gave me. in that scene, this journey comes to such a wonderful conclusion for… ehm… both of them.

so my choice for the best scene of S8 is Sandor smiling back at Arya.

You and Northern Breeze described the Arya & Sandor S8e5 scene quite eloquently.

I’d just add that as far as laughs or smiles, in their brief S8e4 scene, Sandor does chuckle at the end:

Sandor: “Going to leave me to die again if I get hurt?
    (Pause)
    Arya: “Probably.”
    (Sandor chuckles)

  111. death by chickenfire,

”… i’m a member of the Sandorista since the first moment The Hound opened his mouth.”

    “Sandorista.” I like that.
I guess I’m a member of the Sandorista too, though it wasn’t when he first spoke. It was probably when he rescued Sansa from the KL rioters in S2, and certainly when his S3-S4 road trip with Arya began.

When fans use terms like “character development,” “redemption arc,” “anti-hero,” and “morally ambiguous,” nobody beats the Hound.

    #Sandorista

  112. My favorite moment of GoT Season 8 was the scene with Melisandre and Arya: “The Lord brought [Berric] back for a purpose. Now that purpose has been served.” … “Brown eyes, green eyes… and blue eyes.” … “What do we say to the God of Death?” !!!

  113. I think from a purely cinematic experience, my favorite scene is Jaime knighting Brienne, since both actors seem completely in the moment – it felt like they both forgot that there are others in the room and that intimacy was palpable. Frankly, I thought THIS was their true love scene moreso than their actual love scene.

However, my favorite moment was a perfect blend of music and poignancy. The culmination of Ramin Djawadi’s work takes place in The Last of the Starks, with a wonderful crescendo right as we hear the last words ever uttered in the series, “The Queen in the North,” which is something that I don’t think anyone ever thought would be the case from the pilot episode. The tragedy of Sansa was that for so long, she was a pawn in other characters’ stories but in that moment, she was *the* lead and she got the final word.

  114. My favorite moment Lyanna Mormont killing the wight Giant, the knighting of Ser Brienne, and Dany and Drogon five bombing and destroying the Iron Fleet in The Bells.

  115. “Rise Ser Brienne of Tarth, a knight of the Seven Kingdoms” + Jenny of Old Stones still gets me every time.

  116. My favorite moment is newly knighted Ser Brienne of Tarth’s ever-so-subtle lip crinkle in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

  117. Probably been said a billion times already but the knighting of Brienne. That entire episode was a masterpiece.

  118. My favorite is when Melisandre mentions all the eyes Arya shuts forever and then goes on and asks her, “What do we say to the God of death?” Whether that was planned the entire series or not, I thought it was a great way to tie everything together and set it up perfectly for Arya to be the one to do it. As someone who originally wanted the Night King to be the final battle, this scene alone made me excited it was happening in the order it did.

  119. My favorite moments were when Daenerys literally did anything. SHE is my queen.

After that though, I really loved Braime getting together, Gendrya getting together, Jon and Dany riding dragons together, and all of the Arya/Sandor scenes.

  120. I’m not in the region A, but my favourite moment was the knighting of Brienne. I could extend the choice to the whole scene by the fireplace, including Podrick singing Jenny of Oldstones.

Mr. D, on point as always. 😎

  123. Northern Breeze:
Difficult to choose: Season 8 was full of so many favorite moments…

    ***
I guess I’ll go with Arya and the Hound, standing on a shattered map of Westeros as the world crumbles around them, he finally giving voice to his paternal love by urging her to avoid his mistakes and choose life, not death and revenge, and that love being the last catalyst needed in her evolving return to humanity – my favorite moment being her soft change of expression as she becomes herself, and then calling him by his name: “Sandor”, and then: “Thank you”. Northern Breeze: Wonderfully written synopsis.
    Thank you.

  124. My favourite moment this season was the last minutes of the Battle of Winterfell, when the NK enters Winterfell and walks towards the Godswood and the scene slows down with the music so powerful, Theon dies, Danny is sorrounded, John Snow is not capable to defend Bran… and then Arya appears.

  125. Fronklan:
When Daenerys arrives to Winterhell with full strength to save those soon-to-be ungrateful backstabbers

    Precisely. Bunch of f*cking ingrates.

For me, that introductory scene of Dany & Jon and their entourage arriving in WF was memorable because:

    – It echoed the arrival of King Robert and his entourage in S1e1, starting with a young boy climbing up for a better view.

    – It had great cinematography and CGI, especially of the marching Unsullied and dragons overhead, respectively.

    – Most of all, because it deployed Maisie Williams’s gift for wordless evocation of emotions with just facial expressions to convey Arya’s reactions, e.g.,
    • happiness upon seeing Jon Snow for the first time after ~ 7 years;
    • perplexity that Sandor was not only alive but riding in with Team Stark/Targ;
    • delight that Gendry was there too; and
best of all, her wonderment upon seeing dragons flying overhead, while people around her scurried away in fear.
It’s understandable why the show used this snippet of Arya looking up in awe in the S8 teasers and trailers.

  126. My favourite moment was the arrival of Jon and Dany in Winterfell… So many great parallels to the first season!

  127. My favorite moment is when Jon amd Dany were flying on the dragons!!! Jon riding Rhaegal for the first was epic 😍 That scene was so beautiful, they were both so happy.
Thank you so much for this giveaway and I hope I win. 😁❤

  128. There were a lot of great moments and lots that made me cry, but the one I haven’t seen mentioned yet is Drogon comforting Dany after Jorah dies.

  129. My favorite moment of season 8 was the intimate, graceful fireside gang scene. Between the jokes, Jenny of Oldstones song, and the knighting of Brienne, it was powerful, well-acted and characteristic of what I love in Game of Thrones.

  130. I’m going for just literally moments here, but cheating (haha) by having a four-way tie:

1a – Arya’s raised eyebrow after she told Gendry “I want to know what’s it like.” That eyebrow gets me every time. It was just so freaking perfect. I mean, how could he resist after that?

1b – Dany coming into view from the wreck of the Red Keep and Drogon’s wings behind her looking like they were her own.

    1c – Brienne’s massive, heart-melting smile after being knighted.

1d – Tyrion kissing Sansa’s hand in the Winterfell crypts while the undead Stark ancestors were trying to kill the not-so-safe non-fighters down there.

  131. Although Arya’s slow-motion leap toward the NK and subsequent dexterous stabby-stabby was a fitting ending to a daunting and disturbing battle episode, I’d have to go with Brienne’s knighting as a favored scene. It was a poignant, payoff moment for her story arc (although I do not believe she will fare as well in book canon) and it even had a few direct and indirect references to Dunk and Egg. 🙂

But then, to appease the GoT manipulative drama gods, Brienne was inexorably twisted and torn with subsequent sex, rejection and tearful blabberings, AND also was required to write Jaime’s extended bio in the White Book. Many deep breaths and sighs…

The grayness is what I respected most about GoT/ASoI&F…for every arc, there was triumph and taint.

  132. Tormund: “Well, Clegane, it’s time to drown our sorrows.”

The Hound: “I’m not done with my drink.”

  133. I have so many favorite moments from season 8 but one of them is when everyone was saying goodbye to the fallen heroes 😭😭 that was so sad and emotional, Sansa crying over Theon and Daenerys kissing Jorah’s forehead 💔💔💔💔 heartbreaking yet beautiful.

  134. There’s a couple of smaller moments that really stand out in each episode:
Ep 1) “Warm your queen” from Jon and Dany’s hunting date is one of the few 100% wholesome moments in the show and all the more tragic in hindsight

Ep 2) Tormund hug-tackling Jon during their reunion is so indicative of their relationship at that point. Their relationship as one of the biggest are of any two characters on the show, and seeing thus in comparison to how they met is such a ride

Ep 3) Jon ignoring Sam on his way to Bran. Screw anything else, this was the biggest tear-jerker of the season. Who could have doubted that Jon would do what he felt was right in episode 6 after leaving his main boi behind

Ep 4) Greyworm calling out for Missandei on the beaches of Dragonstone crushes my heart Every time

Ep 5) It’ll go down as one of the most controversial moments in the show, but Danerys sitting on Drogon’s back as the bells ring across King’s Landing, realizing they have not suffered enough for the heartbreak she’s already suffered, is one of the boldest and toughest to pull off choices I’ve seen made in popular entertainment in a while

Ep 6) In Arya’s last moment in the series we see the camera pull back to reveal a Stark flag on her ship. She may not feel she can live a domestic life with her family, but she will never lose who she is. She’s travelling as a Stark.

  135. Arya telling Gendry “that’s not me”. Brienne’s knighting, tears…. Brienne and Arya’s duel. Tormund’s bear hug tackle. Hands down though favorite moment is when Jon returns to the wall and leaves with the wildlings.

  136. My favorite moment of season 8, is what I waited all 8 seasons for- to watch Danyreas unleash fire on Kings Landing. The cinematic, the emotions.. everything was amazing. I hated how they ended the series, but it was by far my favorite moment was Dany and Drogon burning it down.

  137. My favourite parts are the ones with Arya, the Hound, Beric, oh and so many others with Theon, Melisandre.. And Podrick singing. But I have to choose one, so I’ll go for the Hound (almost broken) and Beric going to help Arya during the Battle for Winterfell.

  138. My favorite moment(s) from S8 were the Jon and Dany scenes. Their stories converging, and the revelation of Jon’s parentage and how that would shift the dynamic betwixt them was something I had been anticipating for so long. Regardless of how I personally feel it could have been better, I was still tuning in to see their relationship play out.

    Happy Holidays Everyone!

  139. Honestly, my favorite moment was the scene where Tormund, Beric, and Ed searches Last Hearth and discovered the remains of the young Lord Umber who reanimated and was set on fire. Very creepy and effective in setting the tone for what was coming.

  140. My favorite scene is when Jon Snow goes beyond the wall at the end of the series. The music and the the finality of the show, it hit me hard.

  141. My favorite moment of Season 8 was definitely Arya killing the Night King. While I loved this moment, I really loved the entirety of The Long Night. I was a big time supporter of Season 8, even though it did have it’s faults, I still loved it as I do every season of Thrones. Here’s to Arya being the Hero of Winterfell!

  142. One of my favorite scenes is after the wight Bear attacks Thoros of Myr. Jorah tells him how much he admired his bravery during the siege of Pyke. I thought it was a pretty cool scene for Thoros before he died.

  143. There were so many great moments this season, but I think my favorite is when Podrick sings Jenny of Oldstones and everyone prepares for what might be their final night. Beautiful and sad.

  144. Favourite moment of Season 8 was after the fall of Kings Landing, when Daenerys walks from the ruins of the castle after Drogon takes off. Seeing the destruction which was havoc through the city and the Targaryan army of Unsullied & Dothraki below celebrating the chaotic moment. Daenerys speech about continuing to “free” the rest of the Seven Kingdoms and rest of the world, made this scene feel so powerful.

  145. My favorite moment was also the most heart breaking… When Dany is killed and her connection with Drogon was so strong that he feels his mother die and burns the iron throne and then takes Dany away…

  146. My favourite part of season 8 was easily Daenerys’ full descent into Mad Queendom. It wasnt the best season no but I think her going completely beserk was totally necessary to end the series finally. It was so crazy to see her kill innocents she had fought to protect all her life.

  147. The moment when Daenerys burns Lannisters’ convoy with gold from Highgarden and Dothraki wreak havoc on Cersei’s army… it was a real paradigm of the Dragon Queen’s power and majesty ❤️🖤🔥

  148. My favourite moment was Podrick’s song with the montage of how’s everyone living their “final hours”. I just had to rewatch that scene with the mandatory goosebumps.

  149. My favourite moment in season 8 was when the Night King was walking over to Bran. The not knowing what the hell was going to happen as the moment was happening was so good. A build up from the first scene of season 1 to now and he’s there with Bran, the anxiety I felt at that moment was something I’ve never felt watching anything before. Truly amazing.

  150. My favorite moment of season 8, was when Lady Mormont got the ultimate revenge. She was the epitome of courage and strength. She embodied the ‘don’t judge a book by its cover.’ She is a small girl but is tougher and braver than most of the men in the series. She could have easily gone into the crypts, but she wanted to fight for the living, and even tho she died, she helped save the day.

  151. My favorite moment of season 8 was the death of Rhaegal and Melisandre in episode 4. Unexpected and crucial in Dany’s developments on the siege of King’s Landing

  152. Best part was Sansa and Theon in Episodes 2 and 4. The reunion and goodbye were so moving I loved it.

  153. Favorite moment was the beginning of the battle to take Kings Landing-when anything was possible. Until that Red Wedding moment when Dany went nuclear. 😩

  154. My absolute favorite moment of season 8 was Cersei and Jaime seeing each other again and then dying together. I cried like a baby. These 2 final moments between Cersei and Jaime were very emotional and touching. Also beautifully acted by Lena Headey and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. I never thought the Lannister twins would make me cry so much. But they did. And I’m glad they did. Lena and Nikolaj did a wonderful job portraying a very complicated love story. Cersei and Jaime dying in each other’s arms was perfect. They came into this world together and leave this world together. Knowing they deeply loved each other. Jaime dies as a true knight literally bleeding for his Queen. Protecting his queen. And Cersei dies just like everyone else, the most cruel and humane death for her. Everything she had built for years literally falls upon her. Killing her, killing the man she loves and her baby. But she finally let go of everything and is at peace in her final moments with Jaime, the only person she deeply loved besides her children. Nothing else matters, only us.

Perfect. My favorite moment from season 8.

And then Tyrion crying for his dead siblings… who were lying on the ground literally like twins in a womb… It made me cry like a baby again. The Lannisters made me cry a lot during season 8.

Second best moment is Arya killing the Night King. My favorite character gets to have the coolest action of the season. To kill the Night King. Freaking awesome.

Third best moment is Jon and Arya saying goodbye to each other. Maisie looked like she was really crying. It was very emotional. I cried a lot watching this scene too.

  155. Favourite moments (how could you have only one?!) include Brienne writing about Jamie in the White Book, such a sublimely beautiful and bitter sweet moment, the final Small Council meeting, great to see the characters having to deal with mundane issues as life continues…aaand the last ride of Jon Snow and the Wildlings beyond the Wall…just the thought of Jon having a bit of peace and Thormund telling him, “You’ve got the North in you!”, is enough to make me smile.

Favorite and most hearbreaking had to be when Drogon melted the iron throne and then carried Dany away

Would you look at that. Another comment I’m replying to for no reason!

Favorite Moment: Lady of Bear Island Lyanna Mormont slays a giant with a knife in the eye!

    Jack Dawson,

Why didn’t Rose make room for you on the door?!?

Why did old Rose toss the priceless jewel in the water? Give it to the robot submarine explorer guy. Sell it and set up an art scholarship in Jack’s name. 😡
