More than a dozen new photos from early in season eight have been released!

Via Express, we get to witness Sansa’s armored dress Sophie Turner teased back in February; a ton of Jon and Daenerys together, with surprising amounts of Jorah as well; the elusive Varys, cozy in his carriage; Cersei and Qyburn in King’s Landing; and more!

All of these appear to be from the first two episodes in the season, as usual, but there are a few new details one may notice. For example, it seems that in episode two Daenerys and Jorah will have a conversation with Sansa in Winterfell’s library.

  1. The Winterfell library is going to get more screen time than Ghost this season it looks like, lol.

I’m actually pretty intrigued by the library and what Sam will find in there.

Yet another shot of Tyrion looking concerned. I’m sensing a theme here…

Lyanna looking like she’s about to chastise somebody once again. I’m sensing a theme here, lol.

  2. There’s a new teaser titled Aftermath which shows you winterfell after the battle
IM DEAD AND NOT EVEN THE NIGHT KING CAN BRING ME BACK

  3. Nick20: Honest question by which I mean no offense. Just genuinely curious.

Do you spend every moment of every day refreshing Game of Thrones news pages ? Also, do you sleep ?

Smartphone notifications are a thing of beauty 😀

  4. I like Sansa’s new outfit, but she is standing there in an Arya pose 😲. Oh, the implications!

  5. Mr Derp: Lyanna looking like she’s about to chastise somebody once again. I’m sensing a theme here, lol.

Isn’t that the truth… I think I’ve seen enough of that face/expression from her.

  6. Where the f*ck is the Many-Faced Goddess?
Is Arya off doing reconnaissance while everyone else babbles in WF?

  7. OOooo I love that shot of Sansa in the library and her new armor-type wardrobe. Looks pretty cool. Jon and Dany looking affectionately up in the sky – assuming their dragons? I’m actually surprised he’s looking affectionate since last season they were “beasts” to him and Dany was offended lol.

The Varys picture made me chuckle because it just feels like it’s more Conleth being cold wondering what time filming is going to wrap for the day. 😂

  8. Clob,

Lol, she kind of reminds me of Chucky from the Child’s Play movies.

All anyone really needs to do is just punt her away, but for some reason, everyone takes her seriously anyway despite the fact that she really has no political clout and she barely has any soldiers, even before the BOTB. But hey, she’s little and cute and does things that grown-ups do so, ya know…

For the record, I do like her. I just want to see her do something useful instead of acting like a public service announcement for Women’s Rights every time she’s on screen. It’s a bit patronizing to me.

  9. Sansa’s armour looks like it could be influenced by Dany’s outfits? That slightly winged shoulder shape…or am I just over-thinking it?

  10. Amanda,

Not at all. It’s also quite a bit like Missandei’s new ‘fit from S7, as far as the “wings.”

I do wonder if Daenerys will ever get something more protective…

  11. Very clearly a man of the Night’s Watch standing behind Jorah and Davos in that shot of them in the Winterfell courtyard.

Not that there was much doubt it was going to happen, but that would seem to confirm they abandon Castle Black and fall back on Winterfell early in the season.

  12. HousePotterz,

Yes, and that would have to happen very early in the season if the season is supposed to start off with Dany/Jon’s company arriving at Winterfell.

Maybe they do a cold open at the Wall or Castle Black to kick off the season. Perhaps it’ll be similar to last season when Edd lets Bran and Meera through, but this time he is dealing with Beric and Tormund?

  13. HousePotterz,

I think that’s actually Greyworm. It’s the Unsullied uniform with the flared shoulders. Then there’s a shorter person in black that I’m pretty sure is Tyrion in that same image. However, there is another still of Arya (I think one of the first released) where I think there was someone from the Nightswatch. Them going to Winterfell seems like something that would happen …. although it would probably be safer to stay at Castle Black now that the NK busted through Eastwatch and is heading south 😂

  14. Dark Sister,

I mislabeled the photo I was referencing. It’s not the one with Jorah and Davos. It’s the one of Dany and Jorah in the Winterfell courtyard, sixth photo from the top. There’s a mounted man to their left and a Night’s Watchman standing behind them.

  15. cos alpha,

Maybe, maybe not. I don’t think you can draw that particular conclusion from that picture though. Dany is wearing the same outfit that she is wearing when she arrives at WF, and I think Jon would be brooding more if this was after the shit goes down at WF. He looks relatively happy, like he’s about to return home to WF.

  16. What will be the reaction of Lyanna and Jorah Mormont meeting? Any tensions to be expected? Does she actually know he’s still alive?

(I keep forgetting what their relationship is. Is he her uncle?)

  17. CocaColagirl811:
    I think Dany looks pregnant!

I agree. It looks like there is the beginning of a baby bump. With all the emphasis last season on he inability to get pregnant, I think it is one of the few things that is almost guaranteed this season.

  18. JSchmeh,

I think she will get pregnant, but I’m not seeing what you guys are seeing in these pics. She doesn’t look pregnant at all to me, though she is wearing a heavy coat that would cover it up, so who knows.

  19. Poor Ser Friendzone. The wardrobe department must not like him all that much. They gave him one of Euron’s old coats.

I can’t wait to find out what’s going down in the library conversation between Jorah and Dany. She’s obviously upset and the shot with her hand on his arm gives me the impression she’s asking him not to go off and do something stupid. If I had to guess, this is the Viserion reveal.

And I wonder if this is the same scene of Cersei in the throne room from the trailer where she appears to be meeting Strickland. I can’t think of anyone else left to meet her in court. I love her “I can see through your BS” expression.

  20. The Davos/Jorah picture interests me because Liam has expressed in past interviews the producers wanted him to read for a part in season 1 but his schedule prohibited it, but he refuses to say the part in respect for the actor playing the part. Many who know this story have guessed Jorah as the part they wanted him to read for and that appears reasonable. Amusing to see them together knowing that.

  21. Jon’s costume looks like he may have renounced being KING and quite possibly being a Stark. He’s wearing neutral colors without the usual Stark jerkin/ light-armor.

  22. Why is Dany staying Jorah’s sword arm? Only way Jorah would reach for his sword is if someone insulted Dany; although he does rest his hand on his sword hilt sometimes. Meanwhile Dany’s face looks like she’s about to tell somebody what’s what.

I’m exhausted. This is too much for me.

  23. I’m assuming that those first two shots of J&D are more of those from the scene in the trailer when they and the dragons are off alone in the barren mountains. That whole part is still a big curiosity.

  24. I don’t like the pregnant-story very much (because of baby-drama), but yes, Dany looks pregnant. There is a special touch in her face, softer, warmer, her face seem to be more rounded.

  25. Pot Pie:
Jon’s costume looks like he may have renounced being KING and quite possibly being a Stark. He’s wearing neutral colors without the usual Stark jerkin/ light-armor.

If you blow up the 2nd pic, and look at the leather straps on Jon’s chest, there doesn’t appear to be the Stark sigil, like the one that Sansa made for him.

It’s entirely possible that the photo isn’t high enough resolution to see it. It’s also entirely possible that at this point we are all so desperate to see this season, that we are all obsessing over every little detail.

  26. The lighting doesn’t match in the pics of Jorah and Dany and the one of Sansa in the library. Sansa’s is during day. I think the pic where Dany is sitting and smiling matches it.

  27. Clob,

I know what you mean. It doesn’t seem to fit in with them arriving at WF if they’re both off in the middle of the mountains riding dragons. Must be from a different scene, but what scene? It looks like they’re beyond the Wall, but why?

  28. Anybody else think Arya will kill the Night King with Catspaw? So much emphasis on this dagger from Season 1 and Arya in winterfell when the Deas arrive

  29. JSchmeh: If you blow up the 2nd pic, and look at the leather straps on Jon’s chest, there doesn’t appear to be the Stark sigil, like the one that Sansa made for him.

He’s not wearing his fancy tunic/armor with the metal and sigil on it in this scene for some reason. It’s an old, crusty tunic… Play clothes? 😛

I’m wondering if any of these, particularly that picture, are being snuck in from later episodes. If that Dragonstone fireplace from that teaser is actually at Dragonstone then they’ve already been doing it.

  30. steff666,

Yeah, that was my first thought when I saw that shot of Sansa. That it aligned with the previous shot of Dany sat in the library smiling. The lighting and where the chairs are positioned seems consistent.

And I can’t see Sansa standing in that pose for anyone else. It’s courteous, yet inscrutable (like Arya last season).

Is there anybody else she would take such a stance with? Not any of her family. Tyrion, perhaps? Maybe not. I can’t envisage her having many formal conversations with any other characters.

Plus, she’s wearing her new “armour”, which may be symbolic of her initial attitude towards Dany.

  31. Mr Derp: It looks like they’re beyond the Wall, but why?

Could it be as simple as a [Jake & Neytiri ride Ikran together] and end up flying beyond the Wall where it’s now “safe”?

  32. JSchmeh,

Speaking from personal experience, a woman generally doesn’t exhibit a bump until she’s at the end of her first trimester or at the start of her second trimester of pregnancy — even if she’s as petite as Dany. I kinda doubt that that much time (approximately 3 months) has passed since even that first Boat Sex encounter and the arrival of Jonerys and Co. at Winterfell.

That said, I do agree that Dany will become pregnant. There’s too much foreshadowing for that not to be the case.

  33. I agree.Reminds me of theUnsullied too.

Speaking of, where are the Unsullied? Aside from what is possibly Grey Worm’s shoulder in the Davos and Jorah shot, there are absolutely none to be seen, only Stark soldiers.

  34. Fienix: Speaking of, where are the Unsullied?Aside from what is possibly Grey Worm’s shoulder in the Davos and Jorah shot, there are absolutely none to be seen, only Stark soldiers.

Having seen much of the Dothraki at all in any promos.

  35. HousePotterz: Very clearly a man of the Night’s Watch standing behind Jorah and Davos in that shot of them in the Winterfell courtyard.

I doubt that’s a NW man. That seems like a picture from Dany&Jon arrival at WF to me. There is another guy with the same coat, next to Sansa and Brienne. I think they are just some northeners extras.

If anyone from the NW is going to WF, that would be in Ep.2.

  36. Fienix,

They’re in the trailer with Dany and Jon, so they are there. I would have to assume the Unsullied are in the distance behind Dany, Jon, and Jorah. It would look pretty aggressive if Dany’s entire army was right there when the two sides meet.

I’m guessing they’re waiting at the gates of WF, but who knows? We’ll find out in less than 2 weeks! I can’t believe it’s almost here.

  37. Jack Bauer 24: Having seen much of the Dothraki at all in any promos.

No, we really haven’t, but you can see a Dothraki mixed in with the Unsullied as the entourage arrives at WF in the first trailer.

  38. Mr Derp,

Maybe Sam & Bran tell them there are clues about the White Walkers way north of the Wall, and the only way to get there in a hurry is via dragons?

Tinfoil Alert ⚠️: I still think Jon may have misinterpreted the Dragonstone cave drawings.

  39. Mr Derp:
    JSchmeh,

I think she will get pregnant, but I’m not seeing what you guys are seeing in these pics. She doesn’t look pregnant at all to me, though she is wearing a heavy coat that would cover it up, so who knows.

Oh no. Is this gonna be pre-S6 “Sansa looks pregnant” redux?

  40. Ten Bears: Oh no. Is this gonna be pre-S6 “Sansa looks pregnant” redux?

I know how you love your baby mama drama, TB. While we’re at it, we really need to address Arya having babies. Your thoughts? 😉

  41. Mr Derp: I know how you love your baby mama drama, TB.While we’re at it, we really need to address Arya having babies.Your thoughts? 😉

She’s one person that wouldn’t have a problem coming up with baby names. She’s made up enough for herself over time. 😉

  42. Ah, lovely to get some more stills.

I love that as per these and earlier stills, Winterfell seems to have a library in the show.

In the books, the WF library was destroyed in the fire started to distract from the assassination attempt on Bran by the Catspaw, and I, as a bibliophile, felt almost more distraught about all those books and scrolls being destroyed than the fate of this kid I didn’t know so well at the time.

In the second picture (Jon and Dany somewhere snowy), Jon is actually almost smiling! Looking almost proud. Dany not so much.

Scrolling down, picture 8, Dany and Jorah (in the library?), she seems to be stopping Jorah. I immediately heard the S4 (or was it S5?) line: “Tell him I’ve changed my mind. No, tell him you’ve changed my mind.” Maybe it’s nothing like that but that was my first thought.

Pic 10, Davos and Jorah in the WF courtyard. Davos looking alert, worried, Jorah looking worried but maybe a bit approving..? Northerners, Valemen in the background, and Unsullied just cropped out on the right side.

Next pic seems to be a council in WF. Yohn Royce, Lyanna Mormont, Brienne of Tarth, Davos Seaworth not looking very happy.

I LOVE the picture of Varys and his furs! 😀 In a carriage no less, ready to go on yet another diplomatic mission… for the good of the realm..? 🙂 (I’m tainted by book knowledge, I don’t take Varys’s proclaimed motives at face value. He’s not some benevolent eunuch-uncle. I looove the book!character, and I love Conleth’s portrayal in the show, even if the show!Varys is unambiguously nicer than the book!Varys.)

Qyburn, Cersei… Just to remind us there’s things happening in KL, too.

OK, a lovely batch of pictures but WHY NO PICTURES OF JAIME? haha

ETA: that last bit was supposed to be enclosed inside fake “entitled stroppy fan” tags but they didn’t show up in the post (I saw them on preview).

  43. The Good Waif,

Thank you. As a single man, with no pregnancy experience, I was not aware that it took that long. I always thought you could tell after a couple weeks. I could tell with my sister that quickly, but I think that was more do to her “glow.”

  44. Clob: She’s one person that wouldn’t have a problem coming up with baby names. She’s made up enough for herself over time. 😉

She’d be one tough mom. You don’t wanna be the kid who makes mommy’s “list”

  45. More tinfoil:

There was a throwaway line during the scene where the meisters were laughing at Sam about someone claiming to be part Children of the Forest.

  46. They’re really loving that library. Jorah has cheekbones for daaaaaays. And I want the candlestick in the first photo that looks like it’s about to do a little dance.

  47. isildur:
Missandei is wondering “Where’s my winter coat?”

    And Dany is bellowing:

    “Where are my mittens!”
    “Where are my thermal Spanx!”

  48. Ten Bears: And Dany is bellowing:

    “Where are my mittens!”
    “Where are my thermal Spanx!”

    “WHERE ARE EVERYONES’ HATS???!!!”

  49. Pigeon:
They’re really loving that library. Jorah has cheekbones for daaaaaays…

You wanna see those cheekbones? And listen to that mellifluous voice? Check this out…

  50. Well, again, speaking from personal experience, the “glow” doesn’t come till the second trimester, either!

  51. Ten Bears: You wanna see those cheekbones? And listen to that mellifluous voice? Check this out…

Awww. The first movie I saw with Iain and my girl crush. Sigh. They’re both so pretty.

  52. Yesterday I was wondering who was standing behind Dany at Winterfell in the last teaser, and it was obviously Ser Jorah. That’s what I get for watching it on a cell phone.

  53. Amanda:
Sansa’s armour looks like it could be influenced by Dany’s outfits? That slightly winged shoulder shape…or am I just over-thinking it?

If they look alike this isn’t intentional – I’m quite sure Sansa doesn’t have time to have an armour designed for her now.

  54. The Good Waif:

Totally agree with all this. It seems everybody sees bumps where actually there are just thick cloaks or coats. Remember everyone guessing that Sansa would be pregnant with Ramsay’s baby because of a promo picture of her with a loose cloak making it look like a “bump”. Those shots of Dany in her dark dress show her looking tinier than ever (her waist is tiny!!) – definitely no bump there!

Also in personal experience, I didn’t show with my first baby till I was 24 weeks along and that was despite being thin. To think she’ll suddenly have a baby bump is crazy to me – where did 5 months go? I too think she’ll get pregnant, but I doubt we will see that baby born. I imagine she’ll find out near the end of the season and we are left to imagine it being born after the show ends.

  55. Am I the only one hoping for a change of clothing for Jon? He’s been wearing the same outfit for a while now. I want him to start wearing Targaryan style clothing. Maybe in the last 3 episodes?

  56. OK, I’m just gonna assume that the lack of Arya in all the episode stills released is because all of her scenes are too spoilery. So in these first two episodes, she’s with:

    A) Jon and they are too good/emotional to reveal
    B) Gendry and they clearly aren’t giving us ANY info on their reunion/relationship
    C) The Hound, yet another reunion that we’ve heard nothing about

Fine, HBO, I will be patient. TWELVE MORE DAYS!

  57. Aah, I see this article is updated with a better look at Sansa’s “armour” costume.

    Michelle Clapton is a genius.

  58. Netheb: If they look alike this isn’t intentional – I’m quite sure Sansa doesn’t have time to have an armour designed for her now.

Sansa, the fictional character, doesn’t actually design her costumes, Michelle Clapton does. If she (Michelle Clapton, GoT’s costume designer) decides Sansa will emulate Dany, Sansa will. If their costumes echo each other, it is very much intentional.

  59. talvikorppi,

    Clapton does marvelous work.

However….this winged shoulder feature is everywhere! For this final season, I hope she limits it to those persons already with it – it is getting a bit much for me. All the Unsullied inc Grey Worm, Tyrion, Missy, Sansa, Daenerys, Arya but not Jon or Jorah – if it is to signal they are a team, why not Jon or Jorah?. There must be a sale on these winged tunics. Or perhaps it has been the big thing in this year’s Westeros Fashion Week.

  60. JenniferH,

I agree that some scenes/actors are not seen much as it is too spoilery.

For example, not much is seen of Tyrion – but I expect him to be important in the drama. And all his pictures are not very informative, the same look every time. Do not be fooled – there is no way an HBO final season is going to be built around the younger and less experienced cast – although they are so heavily featured in the photos. Mr Triple Emmy will be very evident in the real action.

In S7, some of the episodes/sequences that generate the most criticism have writing issues but they were also sequences that relied almost completely upon the younger actors and actors in more minor roles. Sometimes great acting and direction can sell mediocre writing; but when mediocre acting and mediocre writing meet it is very hard to salvage.

  61. Pigeon: “WHERE ARE EVERYONES’ HATS???!!!”

LOL. I think that all the time! Hats, people. Keep your head warm; keep your body warm. But that wouldn’t be very photogenic. Hoods in moderation.

  62. Mr Derp:
    Urs,

    Cousins, I believe.

Jeor and Maege were brother and sister.Maege had Lyanna, and Jeor had Jorah.

Thanks! 🙂 Still wondering how Lyanna will react to her (formerly?) exiled cousin (whom she has never met?) turning up as one of the closest advisers of a Targaryan queen.

  63. Okay, my favorite is definitely Varys with his snuggly blankie…x-)
And I’m amused by how much Lyanna is the human embodiment of the “unamused face” emoji.

  64. talvikorppi,

talvikorppi: Sansa, the fictional character, doesn’t actually design her costumes, Michelle Clapton does. If she (Michelle Clapton, GoT’s costume designer) decides Sansa will emulate Dany, Sansa will. If their costumes echo each other, it is very much intentional.

Well, that’s only partially correct. Of course Michelle Clapton and her team design all the costumes on the show and decide the different styles. But they are not fictional characters in the show. So it’s legit to wonder why (fictional character) Sansa emulates the style of another fictional character (here: Dany). There should be a in-show reasoning for this, at least if you have good storytelling and world-building. Like Sansa telling her chambermaids: “Please procure me a dress that’s similar in style to the one that Targaryan queen is wearing. But don’t make it too obvious, don’t go to the same designer!”. This can happen off-screen, of course. But to say “Sansa wears this and that because Michelle Clapton wants her to” is only correct if you see the show from outside.

PS: As much as I love the costumes on GoT, I sometimes wonder how the characters would get all these fancy new clothes in such a relatively short time. 😉 Like in S7, when Dany, who always had lived in a warm climate, all of a sudden had these designer winter coats (exactly fitting her size, on top of that!).

  65. talvikorppi,
    Urs,

And to add to that, Michelle Clapton does indeed take into account the characters’ plot lines for the season when designing their costumes. She actually addresses the fact that Sansa begins wearing an armor-like wardrobe after surviving the brutality of Ramsay (i can’t remember where she mentions this in an interview or video). She very much has a “world-building” concept when creating new wardrobes.

Last year’s HBO feature A Story in Cloth:
    https://youtu.be/THH_UB-WRCU

  66. I’ve been avoiding spoilers but I’ve seen some stuff to suggest Jon and Dany will ride dragons together, these pics support that happening in my view. I assume this was the filming performed in Iceland a year or so back which we speculated could be them going beyond the wall but instead it seems they will fly their dragons.

The Dany and Jorah looking concerned pic is the most curious to me, what could be on their mind? Perhaps hearing of the undead dragon or Dany learning she’s not the queen?

  67. Urs,

It’s been established in the show since S1 that Sansa makes her own clothes. It’s her quiet way of asserting herself. Men, of course, would not read the subtle clues. Yeah, she’s wearing a frock.

Sansa’s clothes, made by her, tell a lot about her.

Or to get meta, Michelle Clapton (the GoT costume designer), makes sure Sansa’s wardrobe is what she’d be able to do. Sansa is shown to be a good seamstress and even a furrier when she presented the ‘Stark’ fur cloak to Jon.

Oh, but she’s a GIRL, so not cool or a hero. Her little sister is way cooler and heroic, being a mass murderer and despising feminine accomplishements like nice handwriting and knitting and common courtesies. Or common sense.

Now, don’t tell me there isn’t something a bit misogynistic going on there. Girls can only be cool if they’re like boys, like Arya. Sansa is worse, she’s a girly girl.

I think we, as readers, viewers, are invited to examine our own prejudicies, our own stereotypes. We’ll none of us pass with flying colours. We’ll us all be a bit grey, if we are honest.

Being honest is of course difficult.
