Battle of the Tweets

birdAre you ready to relive the biggest, bloodiest episode of television this year? Because it’s time for the “Battle of the Bastards” Twitter Recap.

Every week, we round up the best and funniest tweets from Game of Thrones viewers, cruising though hashtags like #GameofThrones, #GoTS6, #ThronesYall, #BattleofTheBastards, and more. This week’s episode was merciless, starting off with a battle of fire in the east and finishing with the Battle for Winterfell in the North.

Once again, thanks to Shellisandre, GameOverRos, Bri and MotelsontheMoon for their invaluable assistance in gathering tweets for the recap. They’re damn queens, is what they are. Axechucker will return next week for the season finale to reclaim the Twitter throne in time to close out season 6.

We’ve embedded the Twitter recap below, but if you’d like to use the SLIDESHOW option, that’s a neat one to try out as well. You can also go directly to Storify to view the Twitter recap if you prefer.

It’s time for…the Battle of the Tweets!

  1. Bwahah I knew people would tweet about how Rickon needs to zigzag. 🙂

Also glad someone else pointed out the Brienne – Tormund Ear parallel. These are the deep literary connections you expect from ‘thrones, lol.

Enjoyable tweets this time fo sho

  2. People seriously believe there is a sexual tension between Jon and Sansa? They act like siblings.

Evil Elijah Wood or psycho Hobbit. Good one. Nice reactions and tweets.

  3. Best Tweet from Jonathan of Gay of Thrones, showing his happy side that Evil Elijah Wood is DEAD!!

And seriously…please no more Hodoring, I don’t think it honors the character at all, but something that would? #teamholdthedoor just sayin’.

Thanks Tweeters and Sue and Co for pulling it all together enough to post during the show. I tried and just can’t do it, I am so glued to the show and by the time I think of something to Tweet, the time has passed. *claps*

Agreed. Shipping most anyone is a kiss of death anyway. Name one happy person on GoT’s….go on, we can wait. Right? Just when someone is happy, all the dreams and hopes get dashed in an instant and that is why I love GoT’s.

But for Sansa and Jon. Or Arya and Jon. Just….no. Half brother and sister at the best and first cousins at the least.

  5. THIS IS EPIC!!! I’m so glad you guys continued to pull this together in Axey’s absence the past few weeks. I love these recaps almost as much as the show itself! Thank you!

    My favorites this week…
    @LadyoWinterfell Best. Divorce. Ever.
    and
@im_no_ser I suppose we kennel move on from the Boltons now.

Glad to see you survived my friend. We were worried for you. 😉

  7. You guys did a great job in Axey’s absence. Before I even opened this I was thinking “Oh no, motels on the moon is going to be devastated!”

    Lesley Jones’ livetweets are everything.

  8. JCDavis,

Thanks for your concern JCDavis! I was seriously stressed out and screaming in ALL CAPS for nearly the whole episode. However… I think your concern might actually have been meant for the other “motels”… @motelsonthemoon (#PrayForRickon). We were ALL concerned about her! 🙂

  9. Great job with the Tweets, Sue. You did yourself and Axey proud. Thank you. Can’t believe next week is the last episode. This one was amazing.
You picked some great tweets and found some really funny artwork. Lot of creative people in this fandom.
Kibbles and bits to all the Sansa haters out there. Everyone moaning about the lives that were lost because she didn’t tell Jon– as some astute observer on another thread said, nobody said shit negative when Robb deliberately sent out two-thousand men as a decoy for the Lannister army and they all got slaughtered. Oh, good job Robb, we won the battle, we took Jaime prisoner. But Sansa, oh she’s evil and selfish and blah blah. Can’t stand it, but still loved the episode itself.

In the meantime, if they want to make a spin-off that includes that little Lady Mormont actress, I’ll be tuning in. That “Kiss my ass, Bitch” face she gave Ramsay was priceless. I’m waiting for her to declare that when she gets older she’s going to marry Jon Snow. (Now that Rickon is gone.) Poor Art – I saw him act in other things within the past year, and he was adorable. They didn’t give him even a Go to Hell, Ramsay. to say. Oh well.

  10. My winner this week
    Hayes Brown
Did we all see this coming? Yes. Does that make it any less fantastic? No. Very much no. #GameofThrones

Thank you to everyone involved, very funny!

  11. JCDavis,

There were actually several people commenting on the alleged sexual tension between Jon and Sansa, and not necessarily people who were looking to ship it, you know. I just showed a couple tweets to give the gist of it. 🙂

  12. I can’t believe people are complaining about this episode, what more could you possibly want from a television show… seriously? Were there some errors? Sure, but just rationalize them and move on. They get 10 hours a year to tell the story, there will have to be some inconsistencies, it’s really not a big deal.
On a good note, imdb still has the episode at 10/10 with over 70k votes, so the complaints are definitely in the minority.

  13. I was in a hurry last night and tired after work so I didn’t have time to say this, then.

I want to thank you all for all the hard work you put into this. Axey is without a doubt proud of you all!

And speaking of Axey, I can not wait for him to be back for the finale!

  14. Thronetender,
…nobody said shit negative when Robb deliberately sent out two-thousand men as a decoy for the Lannister army and they all got slaughtered.

True. But she risked her own brother’ life. Anybody that fucks with Jon Snow goes on my shit list. That said, things seem to be looking up cause in next week’s preview they seem to be having a heart to heart 🙂

  15. I didn’t get through them all but my favorite right now will be
    @RichieYemie
This scene had me questioning the Lord of Light, George R R Martin, Barrack Obama, The Holy Trinity.

    Barrack Obama? Lol.
